There is a big difference between an apology and repentance. Esau was sorry, apologizing in his way, to the point of tears, but he did not repent and Jesus did not forgive him. The definition of repentance/repent seems to be your sticking pont. Perhaps Paul from 2 Corithians can assist you. Here is part of chapter 7: 2 Corinthians 7:9-11 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter. I think the 7 times in one day is an extreme example. Going through through 7 cycles of the above in one day would be quite a roller coaster ride of emotions to say the least. I believe Jesus gave that number to express that there is no limit. If you repent you will be forgiven. If you do not repent Jesus will not forgive you. Praise the Lord! Norm |

Here is a scripture that may help you better understand how the Jews viewed Time. 1 Samuel 30:12-13 And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights. And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days agone I fell sick. Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. For purpose of this argument we will say the sun sets at 6PM and rises at 6AM Day equals light Night equals darkness Friday - light - Death to 6PM Friday - darkness 6AM - 6PM to Midnight Saturday - darkness - Midnight to 6AM Saturday - light - 6AM to 6PM Saturday - darkness - 6PM to Midnight Sunday - darkness - Midnight to 6AM Sunday - light - 6AM to Resurrection Three periods of light, two periods of darkness. I see what you are saying now. The Jews' preparation day, also mention in John 19:31 John 19:42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand. The preparation would begin in the evening on our Thursday. Thank you for being persisent! I now see the light. Thursday - darkness - 6PM to Death to Midnight Friday - darkness - Midnight to 6AM Friday - light - 6AM to 6PM Friday - darkness - 6PM to Midnight Saturday - darkness - Midnight to 6AM Saturday - light - 6AM to 6PM Saturday - darkness - 6PM to Midnight Sunday - darkness - Midnight to 6AM Sunday - light - 6AM to Resurrection Praise the Lord! 88 | if Jesus died on Friday and rose Sunday | John | TheFinalSQL | 118445
Jesus died on the preparation day(the day before the sabbath) John 19:31-33 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: He rose on the first day of the week(the day after the sabbath): John 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. To help understand how time is viewed: Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. The preparation day begins on our Thursday evening. The first day of the week is Sunday. Now you may say that Thursday to Sunday is 4 days, but remember, it is 3 Hebrew days and 3 Hebrew nights. 90 | jesus sat on the right hand of god | John 1:1 | TheFinalSQL | 117710
The right hand is the power of God: Matthew 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Both sitting on the right hand and coming in the clouds? Sitting/sat might not mean what we think it does. The verse you mention: Mark 16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. Looking at the Strong's definition for "sat" number 2523: 1) to make to sit down a) to set, appoint, to confer a kingdom on one Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Jesus finished what he was set out to do. He sat or was appointed, the kingdom. Sitting on the right hand says Jesus is the power of God. Thank you Jesus!! Praise the Lord! Norm |

91 | Help for John 1:1 | John 1:1 | TheFinalSQL | 120393
Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Jesus was not born Lord, neither was he born Christ. He was made Lord and Christ. Christ, as the Amplified John 1:1 above says is the Word, existed in the old testament times: 1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. Jesus did not: Hebrews 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. The old testament is filled with the shadow of Jesus, not Jesus himself. Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, Praise the Lord! Norm |

93 | What does Scripture mean by no works? | John 3:5 | TheFinalSQL | 111346
I also appreciate the dupe as I was about to answer the other until I noticed that it is addressd to Colin. First of all by works the scripture is refering to works of the law: Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Water baptism is not a work of the law. It was established by Peter. Lets look at this in chronological order. You can read the entire section of this scripture but here is the most important: Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Notice Jesus says will give, a future event. This brings two questions: When did Jesus give the keys? What did Peter bind and loose on earth? Keys given: Luke 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, The keys are an understanding of the scriptures, which at the time was the Old Testament. Now to find what was loosed and what was bound we have to look at the teaching of the Apostles. The first four gospels are the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. The book of Acts is the life and ministry of the Apostles and it is here we find their teaching. Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. As of Acts 2:42 the teaching or doctrine is given. We are told they continued stedfastly in the doctrine of the Apostles, thus, whatever they taught can be found in the previous verses. In these preceeding verses we see Peter preaching, starting with: Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: And ending with: Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Then came acknowledge to the first step of salvation: Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this,... You have to hear the Word Continuing Acts 2:37 ...they were pricked in their heart,... Step 2, Conviction/Faith/Belief ...and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Now, Peter binds on earth: Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent,... Step 3: Repent, turn from your ways to Gods ways ...and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,... Step 4a is the doctrine of baptisms (See Hebrew 6:1,2) consisting of two parts. The order of the two parts is irrelevant. If you want your sins remitted you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. ...and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Step 4b Receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. John 3:8 tells us everyone born of the Spirit will make a sound. I've seen many arguments that water and spirit are the same, or everywhere water is mentioned it's some metaphor or something for spirit. I do not know why so many fight the water. All we have to do is look at the inclusion of the Gentiles to see water and spirit are not one in the same: Acts 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. At this time they had not been baptized in the water. Why is the order different than the day of Pentecost?(Acts 2) Because the Jews NEVER would have baptized the Gentiles in the water. God had to show teh Jews he was including the Gentiles in the plan of salvation. Look at their reaction: Acts 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. How did they know they received this most precious gift? Ac 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, If the water and spirit are the same then they would be done. But they are not: Acts 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. Whether anyone likes it or not, that is what Peter bound on earth. Peter did this with the authority Jesus gave him and with full knowledge of the scriptures. Thank you Jesus! Praise the Lord! Norm |

Romans 6:3-5 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. John 16:7-15 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 97 | Why does Psalm 82:6 say we are gods? | John 10:34 | TheFinalSQL | 127544
10:34–36 Quoted from Ps. 82:6 where God calls some unjust judges "gods" and pronounces calamity against them. Jesus’ argument is that this psalm proves that the word "god" can be legitimately used to refer to others than God Himself. His reasoning is that if there are others whom God can address as "god" or "sons of the Most High," why then should the Jews object to Jesus’ statement that He is "the Son of God" (v. 36)? John F. Lazarus John 11:1-44 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.) Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was. Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again. His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again? Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him. Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already. Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off: And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother. Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house. Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world. And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee. As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him. Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him. The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there. Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. Jesus wept. Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him! And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died? Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. Praise the Lord! Norm |
