God's day to you, hic and welcome to the SBF, May I interject? It would help me, and others if you put something in your profile. Now because we have different interpetation of Scripture - there are different demoninations. For example, the role of women in ministry and the type of rule (pastor, elder or congregational). We should accept the minor differences. Searcher |

64 | The meaning of number | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 171148
- God's day to you, minowens, and welcome to the SBF, I basically agree with the site that Doc provided ... I provided several verses with the number forty. I don't see it being consistent, so don't try. Gen 7:12 The rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights Gen 18:29 Forty was used by Abraham in his countdown Gen 25:20 Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah Gen 26:34 When Esau was forty years old he married Judith Gen 50:3 Now forty days were required for it, for such is the period required for embalming. Exo 24:18 Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. Exo 26:19 "You shall make forty sockets of silver under the twenty boards Num 14:34 'According to the number of days which you spied out the land, forty days, for every day you shall bear your guilt a year, even forty years, and you will know My opposition. Deut 25:3 "He may beat him forty times but no more, Jdg 3:11 Then the land had rest forty years Jdg 13:1 Now the sons of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, so that the LORD gave them into the hands of the Philistines forty years. 70 | Can anyone recommend a good study book? | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 172695
God's day to you, idsimmons, and welcome to the SBF, When doing a Bible study, there are two basic methods - topical (like family) and expository (which is a studying a book in the Bible). The group needs to determine which ... think expository is easier. I like it when a preacher uses this style, so I can prepare before he preaches. The next step is choose the study guide you are going to use. There are many, depending on what you are going to study and the level of difficulty (how much studying each is going to do). I have enjoyed Irving Jensen's and Chuck Swindoll's study guides. Go to your Christian book store to see what they have or online, one source is http://www.christianbook.com/ - Select Books on the left side - Then select Bible Study Guides ... you'll see many choices. This can give you ideas for the group to choose. Don't limit your study to what the guide has. Check out what the author says against what the Bible says by digging deeper. Remember it is just their view on what is said and should be a start. Searcher |

God's day to you, gatorz and welcome to the SBF, Jeff is correct. You can search out others who will justify divorce, by tickling your ears ... but it is not Bibilcal (sound doctrine) (2 Tim 4:3). Christ is perfect - the church and we are not. Searcher |

76 | can pastors be divorced | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 176418
Scripture ... 1 Tim 3:2 ....................... The reason there is gray areas is because there are at least three views what being a man of one woman means - - he must be married and not divorced -- not matter who is at fault or when it happened -- after he became a Christian - he must be married and divorced -- he was a Christian who married an unbeliever and she left him -- she was unfaithtful - he may be single ... this has been discussed before and this is only one of the qaulifications. |

Matthew 7:13 "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it." God's day to you, ardmore, It is very clear that few will go to heaven. We don't know the exact numbers or percentage, because God doesn't say. He kmows. Are you going to heaven? If so why should God let you in? Searcher |

78 | What is the only verse NOT in the Bible? | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 176696
Actually, there are no verses in the Bible ... in the original. God's day to you, crys Here is a repost of mine The original manuscripts did not contain (verses), chapters, punctuation, there were no spaces between the words, and all the letters were written in capitals (called uncial script). http://www.hisremnant.org/roach/hell6.html For example, John 1:1 began ENARCHHNOLOGOS ... The cursive script was created before the time of Christ but became popular in the ninth century. In cursive the letters are connected, like our present day handwriting. Spaces were also added between words. In Greek texts today, John 1:1 begins, En arch/ hn o logoß ... http://www.zondervan.com/media/pdfs/0310234859.pdf The present chapter divisions in our Bibles were invented in 1205 by Stephen Langton, a professor in Paris (he later became Archbishop of Canterbury), who put these into a Vulgate edition of the Bible http://www.fuller.edu/ministry/berean/chs_vss.htm The Old Testament was divided into verses by R.
