5503 | Is your salvation genuine? | 1 John 5:13 | Searcher56 | 27486
Scripture ... Rom 8; 2 Ti 1:8-12; 1 Jo 2:28-3:24, 5:9-13 ... top, Welcome to the forum. I listed some verses on the assurance of salvation. Plus, look at Rom 10:9-15 and answer these questions ... 1. Have you heard the preaching of God's gift of eternal life? 2. Did you believe, in your heart, that you were a sinner and needed to be right with God? 3. Did you call on Jesus Christ, who saved you, with your mouth? If you answer yes to these questions, then you are saved. Hope this helps, Searcher PS You may want to use the Quick Search function on the upper right and type assurance salvation to see what others have said. |

5504 | Whatever we want? | 1 John 5:15 | Searcher56 | 7048
Charis ... we first need to back up to verse 13, which limits this to those who believe, do have eternal life. Even if you start in verse 14, which says we need to ask according to His will, He hears us. So when our asking (vs 15) is according to His will (vs 14), we know He hears us (vv 14-15) and we will be granted our request (vs 15). Many use this verse for the "prosperity Gospel" ... but, we do need to have our wills and wishes match His. Contentment plus Godliness equals Great Gain Steve |

5515 | What is the sin NOT onto death? | 1 John 5:17 | Searcher56 | 11720

5516 | Who is the 'lady'? | 2 John | Searcher56 | 10815
Nolan, This is either to -a church (the lady is figurative) and the congregation (children) -an unknown lady and her children I'm drawing a blank on the congregation being called the children of the church ... I thought we were all the bride of Christ (Rev 21). So I lean toward the latter. Now I'm going to get wierd: -2 John starts, "The elder", presbuteros (Strong 4245) is an adjective -Presbutis (Strong 4247) is the feminine noun form is found in Titus 2:3 -2 John ends, "The children of your chosen sister send their greetings" (v 13). Since I do not think this verse is referring to a church either... is it possible an older woman was writing this to a younger, or had a significant role in it. Otherwise, why does the letter close like this. -The letter is not signed, as with all of John's letters. -I am aware of what the "experts" by comparing this letter with 1 John and the Gospel of John. But, when I disciple, I may look at one book and build of that. Steve - gone wierd |

5517 | Is she a woman in leadership? A pastor? | 2 John 1:1 | Searcher56 | 60089
Scripture ... Mat 22:14; Rom 16:1, 13; Col 3:12; Tit 2:3-5; 2Jo 1:1, 13 ... Jessie23, greetings. The Bible only says she was a chosen lady and continues with her children. Verse 13 says chosen sister. Eklektos is the Grrek word. It is used alsewhere (Mat 22:14, Rom 16:13, Col 3:12) ... so you see it can refer to a person or all Christians. She may of had no leadership role in the church (this is a person letter), or could of been a deaconess, like Phebe (Rom 16:1) or a teacher of younger women (Tit 2:3-5). I hope I helped, Searcher |
