246 | Could our understanding be wrong? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 6129
Who is going to be left to go into the millennium? Even if only 1/3 of the current population was left, there still would be alot. maybe all will move to where there is no destruction. Yes we could all be wrong about the millennium. I choose not to study the end of time, in depth. I know there will be a period of the millennium and what is called the "tribulation". There are more important topics to study like preayer and worship. Steve |

247 | What is biblical discernment...? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 6291
Solomon asked for this gift, to govern and know right from wrong ... and God gave it to him (1 Kin. 3:9, 12). He used this when the two women came with one baby (vs. 16 ff.). It is wisdom from God (vs. 28). He was the wisest (4: 29-24). It is called distinguishing (NAS) and discerning (KJV) used to know if someone is a true or false prophet (1 Cor. 12:10). Not everyone has this gift. It could be a person can tell if there is something different (wrong) about a person. It is important to know right from wrong ... we all can. But, like the gift of giving, some have an extra measure. Steve |

249 | define and describe apostasy. | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 6885
We get our word apostasy from the Greek word apostasia (a falling away, defection) the feminine form of the Greek word which means divorce. The passages in Acts and 2 The. were already cited. M@shuwbah (turning away, turning back, backsliding, faithless) is the Hebrew word. Jeremiah 3 uses the later five times (vv 6, 8, 11, 12, 22), in the NAS. He uses apostasy four other times (2:19, 5:6, 8:5; 14:7). Proverbs 1:32 calls it waywardness. Hosea 11:7 says turning from and 14:4 says that he will heal their apostasy. |

250 | Is 'match making' Biblical? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 7144
In Genesis 24:1-4 Abraham sent his servant to look for a wife for his son, Isaac. In 28:1-5, Isaac sent his son away to look for a wife. Judges 14:1-3 has Samson asking his parents go get him the wife of his own choosing. It is still part of some cultures to arrange marriages, usually by both sets of parents. Genesis 34:8ff is one case. Parents know their children ... the parents of the prospect, the prospect or the culture. I think your friend knows you and this woman. While I cannot recall friends arranging a couple, it is okay. If you saw Fiddler on the Roof - there was a professional matchmaker. It is important that your ministries can coincide. I know couples who are on the mission field or did not go ... and the wife is unfilled. If called to the mission field, it needs to be in the same place. I bring this up because who said that you two are on different paths. Ask her the path God has for her. It may be you or her have the "gift" of being single. I did not marry until I was 3 |

252 | Finding a Church? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 8141
The first criteria is to pray. Pray now, before you attend the church, after you visit, and before you choose. Choose a church near your home, if possible. When you invite your neighbors, they may be more willing to go. That is a hopeful. But, the church has to have sound and Biblical doctrine and vision. - Use the Yellow Pages or internet to look for churches. - Then contact them, asking them for their doctinal and vision statement. Visit each church several times in a row, including other than Sunday morning. - Get the flavor of the people and the leaders. - See what you can do for the church, not what it can do for you. Ask for a visit or to visit the church leaders. - Ask further questions to help you in your decision. - Some church leaders may have an idea where you can fit in at another church, if you think the church you are visiting is not for you. PS What island are you on, and what area? |

253 | Is suicide a sin? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 8413
Saul ... JVH0212 is right. However, there are those that teach suicide is a sin. Some use 1 John 5:16 to say suicide is a sin. The last part of the verse says, "There is a sin unto death. I do not say that he shall pray for it." In the original this would read, "There is sin unto death", as there is no Greek or Hebrew word for the article "a". This has nothing to do with suicide, but means that you should not pray for someone after they have died. Some say it is murder, killing or taking a life, and since one of the Ten Commandments prohibits it - it is a sin. The word for "kill" refers to taking another's life. ---- The following is by by St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) I answer that, it is altogether unlawful to kill oneself, for three reasons. First, because everything naturally loves itself, the result being that everything naturally keeps itself in being, and resists corruption so far as it can. Wherefore suicide is contrary to the inclination of nature and to charity, whereby every |

254 | Is suicide a sin? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 8415
Saul ... It is not the unpardonable sin, if that is what you are asking by, "Is it something that will condemn a soul to eternity apart from God?" However, the only sin that will keep you out of His presence, is unbelief. John 3:18 is one verse that comes to mind. That is the simple answer, if you want more on either post - ask, though I will be away until late tommorrow. Searching Scripture Steve |

256 | Was Abraham a Muslim? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 9063
Questioner ... He wasn't an Israelite, Muslim or Christian. The first Israelite was his grandson. Abraham means father of many and is is the father of many nations as promised in Gen 17:5. Not just the Ishmaelites, who the Muslims claim in their lineage and the Israelites. Abraham had six other sons by Keturah (Gen 25:1-2) and had more than one concubine and sons by them (vs 6). Then Isaac had two sons - Jacob (Gen 25:6), who became Israel (Gen 32:28) and Easu (Gen 25:5), the father of the Edomites (Gen 36:9). The whole chapter is about Easu's descendents. Abraham's beliefs were well answered by others. Steve |

257 | Consider Rev 11:19 | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 9297
Ed, I have no problem with the Ark being in heaven. Even, if the Bible does not say what happened when the Babylonians captured Jerusalem, I would think we would have have extra-Biblical history on what happened. There is a lot of links between the Old Testament patterns and that in heaven. Think about the Designer of both. Steve |

258 | Mercy on Unbelievers | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 9394
Krissa ... 2Co 6:14 says not to be unequally yoked, so I think it is unwise to date an unbeliever. May may lead to trouble. The answers given are correct, God will not have any mercy on the unbelivers, once they die or the Lord comes in the end. He has mercy on us, by calling us. For some, it is several times. He died for us while we were yet sinners. But, we need to respond by returning His call. If not, He will no have mercy. Steve |

259 | Some more questions? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 9435
EdB, Yes and no. Yes, it shows the lack of love for Him and our neighbor. If we loved Him, we would keep His commandments (Exo 20:6, Jhn 14:15, 1Jn 5:3). One of His commandments was to GO. We are also supposed to pray (Mat 9:37-38). As one who goes, I do need prayer support. There is a battle for the souls of men. I say no, because the church of Ephesus did many things, yet forgot their first love (Rev 2:2-4). There are people who go and do ... but do not spend time with Him. We need to do both. Steve |
