81 | What do we know about Jesus' family? | Matt 13:55 | Searcher56 | 231445
Scripture ... Psa 69:8 ; Mat 1:16-24, 12:46, 13:55; Mar 6:3; Joh 2:12; Act 1:14; 1Co 9:5; Col 4:10 ... God's day to you, guide, and welcome to the SBF, Mary was the mother of Jesus and Joesph was her husband and earthly father (Mat 1:16-24) The word for brother (adelphos) sister is (adelphe) ... and cousin (anepsios) and used in the NT (Col 4:10). This is important because some claim Mary didn't have any other children. James (probably the author of the book of James), Joseph, Simon and Judas were children of Joseph and Mary, half-brothers of Jesus, based on Matthew 13:55 and Mark 6:3. His brothers are unnamed in Matthew 12:46, John 2:12 and Acts 1:14. His sisters are never named. One could cite another passage (1 Cor 9:5). The word used is for brother is adelphos, and adelphe is the word for sister, in each case. Also Psalm 69:8 shows that He had brothers. Hope this helps, Seracher |

God's day to you, CAPELL and welcome to the SBF, I believe John 4:2 clarfifies John 3:22, meaning Jesus did not baptise. Another view is that He started to baptise, including His disciples (3:22) ... then stopped (4:2). Searcher |

God's day to you, JRLupul, and welsom to the SBF, Jeremiah prophesied 70 years (Jer 25:11-22, 29:10) which Daniel knew about (Dan 9:2). Cyrus gave permission for the Jews to return. It was not a command to return. There were three waves of returns: 1. Zerubbabel returned to rebuild the Temple (Ezra 2:2) 2. Ezra returned to teach (Ezra 7:1-10) 3. Nehemiah returned to rebuild the wall (Neh 2:1-9) Not everyone returned including Mordecai and Esther (there were other Jews there to, as you read Esther) as well as Daniel (Dan 6:2). Searcher |

93 | PROOF OF WORSHIP ON SUNDAY | Acts 20:7 | Searcher56 | 231322
God's day to you, B. Meadow, and welcome to the SBF, While the church gathered on the first day of the week (Act 20:7), the church in Jerusalem met every day in the temple and in private homes (Act 2:46). BUT, that doesn't mean it was the only day they met. While 1. There is freedom in the matter of special days (Rom 14:5-6). 2. No one is to act as their judge in regard to sabbath days (Col 2:16-17). 3. We are warned going back under the Law including special days (Gal 4:9-10). ... it still doesn't mean it proves Sunday is the exclusive day of gathering together. The First Council of Nicaea changed the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday ... an extrabiblical move. Searcher |

God's day to you, jojo32, and welcome to the SBF, Let me add something to Doc's great answer. While Judah is tribe of Israel (Jos 7:16), Israel and Judah are separate entities. The first mention is 1 Samuel 11:8. They were split after the death of Saul (2Sa 2:10). David united the two (2Sa 5:5). There were some friction during his reign (2Sa 19:40-20:2). There was a “permanent” split when Israel made Rehoboam king (1Ki 12:1). There was a war soon after (1Ki 15:17ff). Searcher |
