581 | Eph 1:18, Inheritance question? | Eph 1:18 | Ray | 64964
Hi Tealead, You have mail from ChadK. I think that your reflections are good; but I do not think that Ephesians 1:18 is saying that. The list of things are things that are given to the church and are things with which He fills us. Verse 13: We are given the down payment or pledge of our inheritance; the holy spirit. With a view of being redeemed by God, to the praise of His glory. Verse 17: We are given a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. Verse 18: We are given knowledge of what to hope for. Verse 18: We are given knowledge of His glorious riches. Verse 19: We are given knowledge of His greatness and power. Verse 20: These things are in accordance with His might. Verse 22: All things were put under His feet, and He was given as Head over all things to the church. I think that that is speaking of the Holy Spirit. Verse 23: We are His body, the fullness of Him who fills us with all these things. The Holy Spirit fills us with the holy spirit. That is how I see it. From the heart, Ray |

582 | How were we raised? | Eph 2:6 | Ray | 57476
Hi The Bible is Right, We are raised by the Spirit and are alive by the Spirit. Romans 8:24, "For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one also hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it. And in the same way the (Spirit) also helps our weakness;..." Ephesians 2:1, "And you were dead in your trespassses and sins, in which you formerly walked...But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with (Christ) (by grace you have been saved),..." We are alive together spiritually by the Spirit. Seated with the God/Man, that is, "in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus." The flesh profits nothing. Ephesians 2:8, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of (God); not as a result of works, that no one should boast." From the heart, Ray |

583 | what are the 4 revelations of Ephesians? | Eph 3:3 | Ray | 115804
Hi LPS57, Besides "revelation" look for other words of similar meaning, such as the root word "know". I'm sure you can find them. If you are not a student working on an assignment, we can talk of it further. It is a great question. From the heart, Ray |

584 | what are the 4 revelations of Ephesians? | Eph 3:3 | Ray | 116141
Here are 4 instances of revealed knowledge in Ephesians. 1) Ephesians 1:17, "that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the KNOWLEDGE of Him. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart my be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of your calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe..." 2) Ephesians 3:2, "if indeed you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace which was given to me for you; 3 that by revelation there was made known to me the mystery as I wrote before in brief. 4 and by referring to this, when you read you can understnd my insight [KNOWLEDGE, KJ] into the mystery of Christ, ...6 to be specific, that the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of [His] promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel, 7 of which I was made a minister according to the gift of God's grace which was given to me according to the working of His power." 3) Ephesians 3:16, "that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man; 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which SURPASSES KNOWLEDGE, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God." 4) Ephesians 4:11, "And He gave some as apostles and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as postors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building p of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the KNOWLEDGE of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ. What are your thoughts regarding these passages of revealed KNOWLEDGE in Ephesians? From the heart, Ray |

585 | what is the reason his talking about | Eph 3:14 | Ray | 54082
Hi Believe, Welcome to the forum. I think that the Amplified version printed above gives a good starting point. That version puts in brackets an explanation of "For this reason". In other words, we bow our knees to the Father because we see the greatness of this plan by which we all are built together in Christ. We are built together in Christ by the one Spirit. The body of Christ is built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit. After these statements in chapter two we find another "For this reason" which starts chapter 3. These spiritual things were not revealed or made known in other generations. Through faith in Christ we have access in one Spirit to the Father. Ephesians 2:18, "for through Him we both [Jews and Gentiles] have our ACCESS in one (Spirit) to the Father." Parentheses mine for comparison with the following verse. Ephesians 3:12, "in whom we have boldness and CONFIDENT ACCESS through faith in Him...For this reason, I bow my knees before the (Father), from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strenthened with [spiritual] power through His Spirit in the inner man; so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;..." Ephesians 4:3, "...being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;..." 1 Corinthians 12:11, "But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as (He) wills." 1 Corinthians 6:18, "But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him...Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy (Spirit) who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body." The Father that we will bow down to is Spirit. From the heart, Ray |

586 | Teaching Points on Spiritual Gifts | Eph 4:1 | Ray | 144608
Hi ...bruce, I would have you consider who these gifts are given to: Certainly He gave gifts to men. He wanted to fill all things with these spiritual gifts. He gave some certainly to apostles, some to prophets, and some to evangelists, and some to pastors and teachers. Why? To equip the saints for the work, to build up the members, to attain the unity of the faith, to know the Son of God, being mature in Christ. By now we should all be teachers, being mature in the word, because of practice having trained our senses to discern good and evil. Hebrews 5:14. We should have by now tasted the good word of God, tasted the heavenly gift, and become mature. 1 Peter 4:10, "As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 Whoever speaks, let him speak, as it were the utterances of God;..." Ephesians 4:7, "But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. Romans 12:3, "For through the grace given to me I say to every man among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith." 587 | What about the other ministries? | Eph 4:11 | Ray | 1787
Hi charis, I looked at Ephesians and your reference in John 13:16 also today. It seems to me that all of us in the body of Christ are equally important. "A slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him." contrasted with Ephesians 4:11 without the word in italics;"And He gave apostles, and some prophets, and some evangeliss, and some pastors and teachers, ..." and why, so that we all can "attain the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God..." So I would say that everythings been done already. We have the word of God and we should be equipped "for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ." Go back also to Ephesians 4:7. "But to each of us grace was given according to the measure of (Christ"s) gift." Go back further to Eph 3:20 "according to the power that works within us, to (Him) be the glory in the church..." Notice the fullness of God and Christ in this section. Now I would go back still further to Eph 3:14 "For this reason I bow my knees before the (Father)." The Holy Spirit. I love Ephesians. Check out the "according to"s of the book. 3:7 "of which I was made a minister, according to the gift of God's grace which was given to me according to the working of (His) power." see 2:18 "for through Him, we both have our access in one (Spirit) to the Father." |

588 | Does Jude 1:17 answer Eph 4:11? | Eph 4:11 | Ray | 1805
Dear RCSCROLL, charis, and JVH, I just now read of RC's comment about the past tense in Jude 17, and charis I agree that it's past tense in Ephesians 4:ll 'And He gave some apostles, some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. Past tense, He gave some. Past tense, "words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ." Everything is in place already in the eyes of Jude. You have all the information, revelation, knowledge of the Son of God. You're well equipped with the word of God. JVH, I'm sure you will be happy to know that there is a direct correlation between Jude 17 and Eph.3:ll using my capitalization system. It also points to Ephesians 2:18 "for through Him we both have our access in one (Spirit) to the Father. Ephesians 2:20 has a tense which I need to study to find out, but it too is in a past tense of having been built on a foundation but now we're growing. |

589 | All or none? Or some? | Eph 4:11 | Ray | 1806
Dear charis, I just wrote in another tree I guess and said that I thought in essence that the "as" in Ephesians should not have been inserted. In other words, the church is already equipped by the words written by the apostles, the word of God. I just read Ephesians 3:4 where it says,"By referring to this, when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit;..." I would say that we have the word of God and we don't need any new revelations. When you read you can understand. If you read the word, and know Him, you will be used. Eph. 5:8 "... for you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the (Lord); walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord." |

590 | No more evangelists,pastors,teachers? | Eph 4:11 | Ray | 1811
Hi charis, Consider Romans 10:14 - ll:8..."for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.' How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in (Him) whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?" It goes on to say that all of the people didn't heed the good news from the preachers. "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Again, we have all that we need already. We have the word of God. It relates to the "priesthood of all believers" that I grew up with. We all can read the scriptures and apply it to our lives and the Bible will teach itself. Rom.11:8 says that the Jews were given a spirit of stupor, eyes to see not and ears to hear not, down to this very day." Rom 11:20 But you "stand by your faith." Stand by the word of God. By the way, I'm not yelling at the start. :-) I think that some time ago someone appeared to be yelling but I think that he was showing the all caps Hebrew and the Jewish significance in his comment. Later, Ray |

592 | Filled with Holy Spirit? | Eph 4:23 | Ray | 150081
Hi Tim, Because all we need is a (s)Seed within us. John 3:34, "For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the (s)Spirit without measure." 1) If our interpretation is that God gives the Spirit without measure, then each one of us is claiming to be bigger than God; because God is not measured out then one contains all of God. 2) If our interpretation is that God gives out *spirit, words of truth and power, we can be full of these words with many more yet available in the word of God to be discovered and applied. And all these things can be given to them as the Holy Spirit wills because they are in His hand. For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God;...let's obey the Son. Let's obey this God/Man. The person who believes that the Son is Spirit has eternal life, is what the passage says to me. Don't you get that message, too? But it is received through the spirit and words given without measure. The Son is Spirit and He gives the spirit as down payment and a pledge of our inheritance as God's possession. That's the way I see it. ******* Romans 8:14, "For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of **God." John 6:63, Literally, "The Spirit is the One who makes alive; the flesh does not help at all. The words which **I speak to you spirit are and life they are." From the heart, Ray |

593 | Where can I find a scripture to validate | Eph 5:2 | Ray | 38704
Hi godsavs, I think that love is the way that God has provided for us to walk with Him in a good relationship. Ephesians 5:1,2, "Therefore be imatators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you, and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma." Ephesians 5:8b, "...but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light (For the fruit of the Light [Spirit, NKJ] consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth)." Ephesians 4:17, 1 Thess 4:1, Colossians 2:6, "As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him. From the heart, Ray |

594 | How do we tie this together? | Eph 5:2 | Ray | 143620
Hi godsavs, I am sorry that I did not recognize you today as a long-time forum friend. I was reading your posts and thought that I would try to tie this together again and ask you how it went for your youth group almost three years ago? Do you remember? John 3:16, "...that whosover believes in (Him) should not perish, but have eternal life." Romans 10:9, "...that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as (Lord), and believe in your heart..." John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, "I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. 7 If you had known (Me), you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him." Colossians 1:28, "And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in (Christ)." 2 Cor 5:17, "Therefore if any man is in (Christ), he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold new things have come." Romans 5:10, "For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to (God) through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ through whom we have now received the reconciliation." Ephesians 4:17, "This I say therefore, and affirm together with the (Lord), that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles walk,..." 1 Thess 4:1, "Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that, as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please (God), just as you actually do walk, that you may excel still more." Col 2:6, "As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in (Him)." The parentheses are mine for comparisons and are how I would see the things being tied together. Do we dare to even consider a "new and living (Way)? Hebrews 10:20. From the heart, Ray |

595 | Can Psalm 35 be used as a prayer? | Eph 5:33 | Ray | 104503
Hi partsman, Welcome to the forum. It appears that you are looking for some strong words for your prayer. However, I would suggest that you compose your own prayer. I would be very surprised if many people on the forum are not already praying for you and your situation. What is there in Psalm 35 that you think applies to your situation or any marital situation? 596 | Is this verse telling us to obey our bio | Eph 6:1 | Ray | 130291
Hi semo87, Welcome to the forum. I agree also that the verse is talking about biological parents. However, I would add that the context would imply that we are to obey our biological parents when they are good "spiritual" leaders who are bringing us up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 5:10 also gives the thought that we are trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. The One whom we are serving is our Master in heaven, but we learn obedience by following the lead of godly parents and husbands who love their wives and are the head of the family. But the bottom line is that the whole church is subject to Christ. Ephesians 5:6, "Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of (God) comes upon the sons of disobedience." Ephesians 5:24, "But as the church is subject to (Christ), so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything." Ephesians 6:1, "Children, obey your parents in the (Lord), for this is right." Ephesians 6:10, "Finally, be strong in the (Lord), and in the strength of His might." The parentheses are mine for comparison/contrast. From the heart, Ray |

597 | Does someone have an answer? | Eph 6:17 | Ray | 40822
Hi Oswaldo, Your verses are in the middle of a passage dealing with Peter's denial of Jesus. Luke 22:31,32, "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers." May I offer you the writing of William Barclay from the Daily Study Bible Series. Here is his second point about this denial passage: "(ii)Peter was well warned. Jesus warned him both directly and indirectly. Verses 33 to 38 with their talk of swords is a strange passage. But what they mean is this--Jesus was saying, "All the time so far you have had me with you. In a very short time you are going to be cast upon your own resources. What are you going to do about it? The danger in a very short time is not that you will possess nothing; but that you will have to fight for your very existence." This is not an incitement to armed force. It was simply a vivid eastern way of telling the disciples that their very lives were at stake. No one could say that the seriousness and danger of the situation, and his own liability to collapse were not presented to Peter." [End of quote] But if our struggle isn't against flesh and blood but against the schemes of the devil, then I like to contrast Ephesians 6:10ff. Ephesians 6:16, "...in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvaiton, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverence and petition for all the saints,..." We need to do our best in every way to protect the saints, encourage them, and strengthen them just as Peter was encouraged to do. From the heart, Ray |

598 | Weilding the Sword of the Spirit | Eph 6:17 | Ray | 120418
Hi mommapbs, I like the way you look deeply at the things of God. I don't agree with the Amplified version above where it has the Word capitalized. The verse is talking about the helmet, the sword, and the word, and I would think that they should all be lower case. When I look at 2 Timothy 2:15 and "accurately handling the word of truth" I think of Acts 18:12-26 where Apollos was teaching accurately the things of Jesus but then it was explained "more accurately" to him. Here is where we are required to rely upon the Holy Spirit even when we are instructing accurately and are fervent in spirit. 1 Cor 2:10, NKJ, "But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God." I know that this verse has been studied by Christians through the years because the manuscripts differ in the number of pronouns. For instance, the NASB shows this in the absence of "His". 1 Cor 2:10, NASB, "For to us God revealed them through the Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God." Personally, I go with the NASB "the Spirit" or with an understanding of an altered NKJ of "His spirit". But in any case, "I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day." 2 Tim 1:12. From the heart, Ray |

599 | Kairos vs. Chronos | Eph 6:18 | Ray | 35070
Hi Verne8, I've never looked at the verse with the time frame in mind; that is interesting. I can't really speak to that. However, when you talk about praying for a specific person or situation that the Spirit is bringing to your mind, Romans 8:27 comes to mind. The idea is that we are always praying in the Spirit. What does it mean to pray in the Spirit? A Pentecostal might say that we should speak in tongues in a prayer language. That is outside my experience and I can not speak to that. To me, praying in the Spirit as it relates to Ephesians 6 is praying to the Lord, and not to men. That is, seeking the will of God from the heart. It means like Ephesian 6:10 says, "Finally, be strong in the (Lord), and in the strength of His might." A passage that I cross reference "praying at all times in the Spirit" to is 1 Peter 3:18b, "in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit." And 1Peter 4:2, "so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God." And 1 Peter 4:6, "For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the *Spirit according to the will of (God.)" Romans 8:26, "And in the same way the (Spirit) also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God." Verse 28,"according to (His) purpose. So we should pray in the Spirit looking to know His ways, and His will and purpose. From the heart, Ray |

600 | can someone list everything about thing | Phil 1:6 | Ray | 37907
Hi togunleye, I don't think that you will find a more exhaustive list of the things of God than what you find in the book of Philippians. 1) Very thing: Phil 1:6, "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of (Christ) Jesus. 2) Excellent things: Phil 1:10, "...so that you may distinguish between the things which differ" [approve the things that are excellent] 3) Anything: Phil 1:20, "...that I shall not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, (Christ) shall even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death."...standing firm in one *Spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel." See also 2:2 and 1:19 4)All things: Phil 2:14, "Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God... lights in the world, holding fast the word of life,..." 5) Same things: Phil 3:1, "To write the same things again is no trouble to me, and it is a safeguard for you." 6) Whatever things: Phil 3:7 7) Those things: Phil 3:7, "But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ." 8) All things: Phil 3:8, "More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing [the knowledge of] Christ Jesus my Lord,..." 9) All things: Phil 3:8b, "...for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish in order that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him,...faith in (Christ)..." 10) One thing: Being laid hold of by the God/Man. Phil 3:13, "Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on..." 11) Any other thing: Phil 3:15, "And if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained." 12) Earthly things: Phil 3:19, "...who set their minds on earthly things." [whose end is destruction] 13) All things: Phil 3:20,21, "For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformit with the body of of His glory, by the exertion of the power that (He) has even to subject all things to Himself." 14) Nothing: Phil 4:6, "Be anxious for nothing, ..." 15) Everything: Phil 4:6b, "...but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Phil 4:19ff, "And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Now to our (God) and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen. From the heart, Ray |
