262 | please, where do races come from ? | 1 Corinthians | New Creature | 59256
The best answer about races that I like to give is - There is only one race of people, and thats the human race. Read the following Scripture - Acts 17:26 (God) hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; we all have been made of one blood. One blood, one race, different nations, with various bounds of habitation. Adam was the off-spring of God We all are the off-spring of Adam |

263 | The Gift of Tongues | 1 Corinthians | New Creature | 92911
journey me you asked "Can every Christian or any Christian speak tongues?" In 1 Cor. 12:30 Paul asked: "do all speak with tongues?" the obvious answer is no then Paul said 1 Cor. 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? So I would side with you when you stated "I was taught that the gift of tongues was a spiritual gift and that not all people possess all gifts" God be with you New Creature |

264 | Should a Christian take a man to court? | 1 Cor 6:1 | New Creature | 102954
Dear joel k; I don't claim to be an authority on this issue, but however I do believe that Scripture says that a believer should not take a fellow believer to court before unbelievers. 1 Cor. 6:1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church. I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers. Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren. You said the person who discriminated against you is a non-Christian. I am not sure if the following Scriptural may need to also be considered under such condition. You can read it and determine for yourself. Luke 6:29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also Also Christian's are to be a forgiving people. If it is possible, maybe you can seek advise from the owner of the business, who you claim happens to be a Christian. Also if I were you I would take the matter to Lord in prayer, and wait for His guidance and direction. I also hope some others in this forum who are better versed, or have more insight in this matter, may be able to further advise you concerning this matter. Peace be unto you New Creature |

265 | Is there a verse about smoking. | 1 Cor 6:19 | New Creature | 60565
russb; I can't recall a specific verse that explicitly speaks against smoking, but I can relate to you what the Lord spoke to me back when I was a new believer and still smoked. He spoke from Scripture to my heart the following words: 1 Cor 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. Then the Lord said to my heart: "If your body is my temple, and the temple is to be kept clean, why do you desire to pollute it with something harmful and which is known to cause cancer. It was shortly after that I gave up smoking with God's help cold turkey. PTL |

267 | temple of the Holy Spirit speach over an | 1 Cor 6:19 | New Creature | 91943
Dear Kagey; I am glad to hear of your desire to stop smoking. God is willing to take away that desire. You stated that a certain individual is bombarding you with "temple of the Holy Spirit" speech. The person most likely is quoting from 1 Cor 6:19-20 where God's written word says: 1 Cor. 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 1 Cor. 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. What the individual is probably getting at is: For the believing, born-again Christian, our bodies have become the residence of God's Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit indwells each believer. Therefore since God indwells our bodies, they can be rightly called temples. Therefore the idea of a temple is to be a place where there is nothing impure, or where nothing that pollutes that temple is allowed. Many people believe that smoking pollutes the body. Even doctors, and labels on cigarette packs issue warnings of the dangers of smoking. I personally know individuals who once having become born-again believers in Christ Jesus, have prayed and asked God to deliver them from the desire to smoke. And in time God has answered their prayer requests, and delivered them from their smoking habits. So if you are truly sincere in your desire to quit smoking, continue to pray that God would give you the power to stop. God Bless you New Creature |

268 | Holy Spirit leaving the earth? | 1 Cor 6:19 | New Creature | 120554
Greetings kecia; Some people use the following verse to support a belief that there will come a day when the Holy Spirit is removed from any further influence among the habitants of earth. 2 Thess. 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness doth already work: only there is one that restraineth now, until he be taken out of the way. (ASV) Whether or not this actually is certain I cannot say for sure. There are various thoughts concerning the meaning of this verse. Maybe someone else in this forum has more knowledge about this. I certainly don't have a pat answer. There are a couple of good posts on the idenity of the restrainer. They are posts numbers 17492, 31729, and 31873, they can be accessed by typing any of these numbers in the Quick Search box on the right side of your screen and then clicking on Search Blessings new Creature |

269 | Was Jesus Christ the God of the Old Test | 1 Cor 10:4 | New Creature | 41632
Greetings Arnie, Consider the following Scripture. 1Cor. 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. This portion of Scripture speaks of those who wandered in the wilderness after the Exodus from Egypt, and it says the "spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ." So to answer your question I would be inclined to say yes. |

270 | 1 cor 10:5-6 what kind of warning | 1 Cor 10:5 | New Creature | 48605
The Bible is full of warnings to believers. 1 Cor 10 is just one example of warning. The text says: 1Cor. 10:6 Now these things were our examples, "our" in this text means believers. We are to observe what happened to the Israelites who came out of Egypt and wandered in the wilderness. God was testing them to see whether or not their faith was sincere, and whether or not they would become obedient to God. Their disobedience became their ruin. They lusted and provoked God to anger. They committed fornication The text also says again: 1 Cor. 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. we are to read in the Old Testament account of the Exodus and the 40 years of wandering in the wilderness and how only two people (a small remnant) of the hundreds of thousands who left Egypt ever entered the promise land. Those two were Joshua and Caleb. Today God still has a remnant of faithful sincere obedient followers What was written in 1 Cor. 10 is written so we don't make the same mistakes those who fell in the wilderness made Yes 1 Cor. 10 is a warning for believers |

272 | Are we given more than we can bear? | 1 Cor 10:13 | New Creature | 123041
There is a verse which says God will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able to bear. But with the temptation, God provides an exit door to escape the temptation, so we don't have to do what we are tempted to do. Here is that verse 1 Cor. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. |

From that short account, do you personally believe this young unbaptized man won't make it into heaven? |

275 | Where can I find 3 kinds of Love? | 1 Cor 13:4 | New Creature | 105008
"There are three basic Greek words for love used in the Bible. 1. Eros: I love you - I want you. As in "erotic" Eros is: a desire to possess and enjoy the object. Eros is egocentric, it's for my satisfaction, my self-enhancement. In the Bible: This word is used only once--in the Septuagint (Greek translation of the OT) (Prov. 4:6) But the concept is found in several places in the Bible. Proverbs 5:18-19 May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. 19 A loving doe, a graceful deer- may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love. Song of Solomon 5:2-8 (He is speaking) I slept but my heart was awake. Listen! My lover is knocking: "Open to me, my sister, my darling, my dove, my flawless one. My head is drenched with dew, my hair with the dampness of the night." 3 I have taken off my robe- must I put it on again? I have washed my feet- must I soil them again? (Her Speaking) 4 My lover thrust his hand through the latch-opening; my heart began to pound for him. 5 I arose to open for my lover, and my hands dripped with myrrh, my fingers with flowing myrrh, on the handles of the lock. 6 I opened for my lover, but my lover had left; he was gone. My heart sank at his departure. I looked for him but did not find him. I called him but he did not answer. 7 The watchmen found me as they made their rounds in the city. They beat me, they bruised me; they took away my cloak, those watchmen of the walls. 8 O daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you- if you find my lover, what will you tell him? Tell him I am faint with love. 2. Philia: I love you - I like (being with) you As in "Philadelphia" Philia is called "brotherly love". Philia love is conditional because it expects certain conditions to be met. I love you if… if you're good to me. If you meet my expectations. Or I love you because you're attractive. 3. Agape: - I love you regardless of who or what your are. Agape is unconditional. No if's, no "when's", no "because." Agape is the word used for love in the New Testament about 90 percent of the time. Many have said agape is biblical love. This is the love God has for us, the love we should have for God, the love we should have for our neighbor the love a husband and wife should have for each other even the love we should have for our enemies Agape love is the love that sent Jesus to the cross to pay the debt, penalty for sinners Rom. 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Agape is the word for love used in 1 Corinthians 13 And now I will show you the most excellent way. 13 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Some translations of the Bible say, love does not insist on its own way. This pretty much sums it all. That is the major difference between God's version of love and the world's. The world says, I will love you as long as it works well for me. Thats philia and it works great as long as things are going well. But agape love is putting the other's needs ahead of your own." |
