181 | God must first seek the man? | Luke 15:11 | New Creature | 96398
Huron I believe it is the desire of God that none should perish. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance 2 Pet. 3:9 And I also believe that light is given to each and every person that ever has been born. John 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth EVERY MAN that cometh into the world. Next you said that; "The person that I've been talking with believes in single predestination" I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that. However I am aware that there are many who believe in double predestination. Which means they believe that God predestines some people to eternal life, and predestines everyone else to eternal damnation. I personally believe it is God's desire that all be saved, but because many reject the free offer of salvation, they will be eternally damned based on their rejection of God's free gift of eternal life which is in Christ Jesus our Savior. Grace to you NC |

182 | Could it be they're not true believers? | Luke 15:32 | New Creature | 44098
Well most people are divided on this, but I will ask you this. In the text of Heb. 10:29 I find this written, "hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing," You need to ask yourself, can it be said of an unbeliever that the "blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified." Can the above statement found in this verse, be ever speaking of an unbeliever? Is there such a thing as a sanctified unbeliever? What do you think? |

183 | Can those in Heaven see those in hell? | Luke 16:23 | New Creature | 129191
Hello LoveU In Doc's reply to you he had in mind the same text of the Bible that also came to my mind as well, which would only remotely indicate that those on one side of the gulf can see those on the other side. But I also have the following thought: If Heaven is to be Heaven, then I cannot comprehend God allowing us to eternally watch those being eternally tormented. Such a place where we were able to observe eternal suffering of others would not be what my description Heaven would be. I just don't have any other answer. And the one I just gave you may possibly be in error. But nevertheless, I just thought I would give you my opinion on your question. God Bless you New Creature |

185 | Monergistic Invitation? | Luke 22:42 | New Creature | 166698
Mark I just wanted to make a brief comment concerning the following statement you made. You said: "Either God would regenerate a person, and they would be reconciled, or God would not regenerate a person, and they would not be reconciled." In my view, regeneration truly is monergistic. Regeneration makes reconciliation possible. In reconciliation there is a command to be reconciled (2 Cor. 5:20). Secondly there is no command to be regenerated. In regeneration man remains passive, in reconciliation we become proactive, by following the command; "be ye reconciled" NC |

186 | 1 example in NT of Lost salvation! | Luke 23:26 | New Creature | 88344
tj57h@cs.com I have provided you with the following example of two individuals who as far as I can tell have at one time forfeited their salvation. It was said of these two that they made shipwreck of their faith. The picture I get of a shipwreck, is the ship is run upon the shallows and rocks by the wind and waves, and the waves pound athe ship into the rocks unmercifully until they bust the ship apart and it sinks or is cast adrift. The ship is destroyed. The same way the faith of these two was destroyed. Others will tell you they were not ever truly saved to begin with. I believe Paul would have told us that was the case if it was true. But I don't buy into that philosophy and thinking. Since Paul never said they were never really saved to begin with, that would have to be an assumption on the part of those who read these verses in that context. Paul wrote about some who "made ship-wreck of their faith" (1 Tim. 1:19,20) unlike many in our day Paul did not say of these who shipwrecked their faith, they were never really saved to begin with. 1 Tim. 1:18-20 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme. 189 | Why do people try to disprove baptism? | John 3:5 | New Creature | 53430
The problem as I see it with many professors of Christianity is that many think that they are born-again because they have subjected theirselves to water baptism. If subjecting oneself to water baptism makes one born again as some claim, then that would mean that salvation is by works. However the truth is that being born-again is from above. Before regeneration we were dead, and a dead person does not have any power to raise itself to life. The life giving power comes from above. In the Bible John said: " Mark 1:8 - I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. So even John the Baptist announced a baptism different and more important that his water baptism. Today many are trusting that they have been born from above because of something they did. We had no part in our physical birth, and we likewise play no role in our spiritual birth. There is a huge difference between baptism and birth. That is why I believe it is so important to debate this baptism issue. It is possible that many who profess to have born again truly have not. And if not, then they need to know, because without being born again you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. (see John 3:5-7) By this I am not trying to dimish the importance of water baptism, because it certainly is of utmost importance for the believer to be baptised. I don't believe in baptismal regeneration. A person does not get water baptized to become saved, he gets water baptized because he has become saved. It's an act of obedience. |

190 | Born of the water means? | John 3:5 | New Creature | 134212
In my personal view, "born of the water" as in John 3:5 refers to our natural physical birth. Our earthly mothers carried us around in a watery womb, until the water broke and we came forth. "born of the water" appears to be physical birth, while "born of the Spirit" seems to be in reference to a supernatural spiritual birth which God performs on those who are spiritually dead. P.S. I believe John Moran did ans excellent job explaining this phrase for you. Blessings New Creature |

191 | Notice the past tense used | John 3:16 | New Creature | 65144
Dear welldigger; Thank you for your post, especially the comment in which you stated: ". In the past, I was believing similarly to many of the people I have corresponded with on this site. Then, awhile back, God showed me many things in the scriptures, and showed me that what I was believing was a lie and not in agreement with the scriptures. Of course I was shocked! But He showed me in the scriptures what the truth was, so I believed Him. Then He told me to share that with anyone who is willing to allow Him to show them. So, that's what I'm doing." I really appreciate anyone who compares what men say the Bible means, with what the Bible actually says. Many sincere men have led many away with unscriptural doctrine in the past, and even more in these days. Too many people today view the Bible through the eyes of certain theologians, or preachers. But thank God, He has given us His Holy Spirit to indwell us, and to help us to discern truth from error. Blessings |

192 | Am I once and forever saved? | John 3:16 | New Creature | 85358
jbw A very important piece of Scripture to read that deals with this topic can be found in John Chapter 15. This is the "abiding" chapter. I suggest that you open your Bible to it, and then pray to God for wisdom and guidance to the correct meaning of this portion of God's Holy word. In John Chapter 16:1 you will find the following words of Jesus. "These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended." The wording "These things I have (past tense, or previously) spoken to you, refer to the things Jesus spoke preceding or before John 16:1. So you need to read the previous chapter - chapter 15 to see what things Jesus meant when he said - "These things I have spoken to you" Another interpretation of Jesus words in John 16:1 from a different version of that verse is worded follows. "I have said all this to you to keep you from falling away." John 16:1 (Revised Standard Version) The words of Jesus found in the following verse is a key verse on the topic in question, and comes from John Chapter 15 - it reads as follows - "If a man abide not me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." (John 15:6) the Scriptural term "abide" means to remain - or to remain connected to the vine. “Security for branches depends entirely upon their connection with the vine. The secret of continued life is continued abiding. If a person does not abide in Christ, he withers, dies, and is finally burned up. The relation of a believer to Christ is never a static thing based only on past experience. It is a current mutual sharing of a common life which is drawn from Him. When the branch is separated from the vine, the source of life is gone. Nothing can wither and die that has not previously been alive.” (quoted from an unknown source) May the Holy Spirit of God give you wisdom and guidance through His word. New Creature |

193 | Grace: Received or Accepted - Man's role | John 3:27 | New Creature | 94292
sreid Maybe the following quotes will help you work out your thoughts. "God must initiate the salvation process by reaching out to us first, convicting us, and convincing us of sin" "Because of mans’ fallen nature, it is necessary that God must intervene by graciously giving man the ability to believe and to respond." "God does not believe for us, but after making us spiritually alive, He gives us the ability to respond in belief." (all above quotes from an unknown source) John answered and said, A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. John 3:27 From the above verse it appears clear at least to me that once we have been given something, we can then receive it. But not until it has first been offered to us. Salvation is the free gift of God to us which is to be received by faith. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Hope this proves helpful to you Grace be unto you New Creature |

194 | Truth, understandin or Faith in the word | John 9:31 | New Creature | 94103
George Concerning John 9:31 which the question revolved around I found a couple of interesting cross reference verses. Compare the following OT verses with the NT verse 9:31. Wouldn't you agree that these OT verses possibly help us better understand what was said in John 9:31: John 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: Jer. 5:25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear Prov. 15:29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. Micah 3:4 Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings Grace be to you New Creature |

196 | Was Jesus a man or a Man? | John 9:37 | New Creature | 110836
Dear Ray; I was always taught that Jesus was the God-man. He was fully God, and fully man. I think they refer to this as His "hypostatic union" The following comments were obtained from www.carm.org/dictionary/dic_g-h.htm Hypostatic Union This is the union of the two natures (Divine and human) in the person of Jesus. Jesus is God in flesh (John 1:1,14; 10:30-33; 20:28; Phil. 2:5-8; Heb. 1:8). He is fully God and fully man (Col. 2:9); thus, He has two natures: God and man. He is not half God and half man. He is 100 per-cent God and 100 per-cent man. He never lost his divinity.1 He continued to exist as God when He became a man and added human nature to Himself (Phil. 2:5-11). Therefore, there is a "union in one person of a full human nature and a full divine nature."2 Right now in heaven there is a man, Jesus, who is our Mediator between us and God the Father (1 Tim. 2:5). (For related information on Jesus and His two natures, see Incarnation, and the errors concerning His natures known as Eutychianism, Monophycitism, and Nestorianism.) Jesus as God He is worshiped (Matt. 2:2,11; 14:33). He is prayed to (Acts 7:59). He is sinless (1 Pet. 2:22; Heb. 4:15). He knows all things (John 21:17). He gives eternal life (John 10:28). All the fullness of deity dwells in Him (Col. 2:9). Jesus as Man He worshiped the Father (John 17). He prayed to the Father (John 17). He was tempted (Matt. 4:1). He grew in wisdom (Luke 2:52). He died (Rom. 5:8). He has a body of flesh and bones (Luke 24:39). Blessings New Creature |

198 | Truly saved or not | John 10:28 | New Creature | 45143
In Scripture on the one hand we read: "for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Heb 13:5) on the other hand scripture says: "if ye forsake him, he will forsake you." So we see: 1) God is not the one who does the forsaking of us (Heb. 13:5) 2) It is individuals who forsake God, at which point, He then, and only then will "forsake you" (2 Chr. 15:2) The forsaking is initiated on our part, not on God's |

199 | once saved always saved | John 10:28 | New Creature | 75905
Their is one group that believes in "once saved, always saved" Their is another group that believes, that salvation can be forfeited I am in this second group However both groups find Bible verses to support their belief. We need to look at the entirety of God's word, not pick and choose which verses we like. Each person should personally search God's word and draw from Scripture what is actually true as the Holy Spirit guides and teaches the individual. After having personally studied this topic in depth my sentiments are as follows the "once saved, always saved" teaching is built upon partial truths presented as the whole truth.
