702 | significane of three names for communion | 1 Cor 11:20 | Mommapbs | 48309
Greetings Essence Angel! Why do I get the impression that your three posts are "homework" questions? The Bible uses the Lord's Supper to describe what churches call eucharist or communion. How they arrived at those terms, I do not know. Try a search engine! We observe the Lord's supper to remember the Lord's death,UNTIL HE COMES - 1 Cor 11:26 After that, we who are His bride will partake of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.(Rev 19:9) Aside from others who are invited guests to this supper, all who remain will become the main entree at the great supper of God. (Rev 19:19) Perhaps it is better to know the names of THESE three suppers than to know three names for just one! Blessings as you study God's Word, Mommapbs |

703 | Is it proper to move the communion table | 1 Cor 11:27 | Mommapbs | 76402
Greetings bmajors, while we want to accord proper respect for the articles we use to worship the Lord, we must be mindful of where our true worship takes place - in and from our heart. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. 1 Cor 11:26. According to verse 27, The only "improper" thing one could do is to take the "Lord's Supper" in an unworthy manner. I don't think that moving the communion table could be classified as such, do you? mommapbs PS: Is a table even required? |

704 | what is the greek word for "taketh away" | 1 Cor 11:32 | Mommapbs | 34510
Greetings Sharon! Consider this passage: "A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world. 1 Cor 11:28-32 From these verses it seems to me that the Lord will discipline those He loves, those who are "in the vine" to the point of removing them. This is not to say that they lose their salvation, but they are removed from this earthly existence. ("fallen asleep") The reason is because they are not bearing any fruit - even after much pruning. This is a very sobering train of thought, but one worth considering as we understand the "cost of discipleship!" In Him, Mommapbs |

705 | Mommapbs, Please describe fruit? | 1 Cor 11:32 | Mommapbs | 34549
Greetings Cyclist! "Bear" with me on this- pun intended! What is "fruit?" I believe that fruit is the expression of the presence of Jesus Christ in the life of the believer. Continue the analogy of the vine and the branches. If Jesus is the vine and we are the branches what SHOULD be the expression of His presence IN us? FRUIT - this is the manefestation of "Christ in us!" (Col 1:27) Fruit is the result of a healthy relationship with Jesus. (Trust and obey!) The fruit of the spirit:love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentlenessand self-control, are qualities that will be evident in the life of one who has yielded his/her life to the Lordship of Christ.(The degree of their operation in our lives can be used as barometer of sorts!) "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Phil 3:11-14 Fruit is always possible for any believer,as Jesus assures us: "Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:1-5 Bottom line, we can choose to believe in Jesus and be grafted into the "Vine." (Trust) Afterward, we have the privilege of living in Him which means CHOOSING to live for Him, submitting to HIS will, allowing Jesus to be at work in and through us to bring forth fruit that will last. (Obey) Without Christ at work, the believer is non-productive or fruitless. "If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames." 1 Cor 3:11-15 I trust that God will speak to your heart through these passages of Scripture. Welcome to the Forum! Mommapbs PS: Some might suggest that fruitfulness is measured by those we "win to Christ." But keep in mind, soul winning is yet another result of the work of the Holy Spirit! |

706 | Is privately spoken tongues in Bible? | 1 Cor 12:11 | Mommapbs | 111691
1 Cor 14:18,23 If Paul spoke in tongues more than others, why is there no other reference to the expression of his gift? Might it be because he exercized this gift in private? The second reference suggests the confusion that can result when tongues are exercized in a corporate manner, so might we conclude that those with this gift are being counseled to exercize it in private? Just some thoughts. mommapbs PS: The purpose of the gifts is to edify the Church - must the edification be corporate or can it also be for the individual member? 1 Cor 14:5 |

707 | Church sound system "way too loud" | 1 Cor 13:1 | Mommapbs | 147759
Greetings Kalos: Lee is a member of the body with a special need (we all have special needs btw) and in accordance with the command of Jesus that we love one another - as Christ loves the church, we should be responsive to him as an individual. Although I have no expertise in PA systems, might a selective headphone be appropriate for him? Ones that would allow for what his hearing can receive? Over Easter we attended, (by mistake?!) a Spanish church. I had just been reading in 1 Cor about the use of "tongues" in the church. If there is no interpreter present, those who speak in tongues should be silent (1 Cor 14:28). Now although this was not exactly an "unknown tongue" it was for us! This loving body, recognizing our plight sent interpreters to sit in our midst and interpret the pastor's message - what a blessing that was for us - not only the words spoken but the means by which they were delivered. Seeing the body in action to respond to our "individual need" was wonderful. Might this body that Lee belongs to see their response to him as a priviledge. I'll join you in prayer that a loving solution is reached for him too In Christ, mommapbs |

708 | Do you know who you are in Christ? | 1 Cor 13:12 | Mommapbs | 84559
Greetings bingobongo - knowing who we are in Christ is not the same as believing who we are in Christ. We can know that we are loved, accepted, forgiven, justified, righteous, reconciled, and regenerated, but until we act (respond according to what we believe) we are only hearers of the Word . . . this goes right along with faith without works is dead! See Jer 9:23-24. I will boast that I know the Lord - I believe what He says and I am in the process of submitting to His authority in my life to "renew my mind." For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he!(Pr 23:7) As I choose to believe HIS Truth, He changes the way I think and my actions will reflect that inner adjustment. Robert McGee's "The Search for Significance" addresses who we really are "IN CHRIST" in detail. I suggest that we will not fully know the cost of our redemption or our true identity in Christ until we know as we are fully known. Blessings on your day, mommapbs PS: please fill out your personal profile! |

709 | What's the "real" purpose of "tongues"? | 1 Cor 14:22 | Mommapbs | 49648
One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; . . . When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. 1 Cor 14: 5, 26 Greetings in Jesus! This topic has been discussed at length on the Forum - use the search feature to read through the posts! Scripture points to three purposes for "tongues". 1. As a sign for unbelievers (v.22) 2. Edification of the individual believer (v.5) 3. Edification of the church (v.26) Let's keep our interest in the spiritual gifts as God has purposed and esteem one another's giftedness as a means to enable the whole body to become mature, unified in the love of Jesus. Blessings in Jesus! Mommapbs |

710 | Should women preach over the pulpit | 1 Cor 14:34 | Mommapbs | 106614
Greetings and welcome to the Forum. This topic has been discussed MANY times. You can read the notes on this verse (click on the green N) or input words such as women preach in the "Quick Search" field at the top right column of this page. I hope that you receive some clarification from reading previous postings on this topic. As for me, I believe that women have a place in the church, but not in the position of shepherd or overseer. Blessings, mommapbs |

Searcher - it has been "three days" since you asked GNM to respond . . . and since I've met with the same lack of response as well, I trust that you won't mind my removing these posts from the unanswered list - let's move on. mommapbs |

713 | How does this scripture fit your message | 1 Cor 15:1 | Mommapbs | 86407
Pastor Glenn - although this thread is "restricted" it popped up on my screen. Since it has been posted for "three days" and not answered, I will take the liberty of removing it from the "unanswered question" list. I suggested a passage to Radioman for consideration and I share it with you too. Jer 23:25-40. Praise God, there is only ONE Good News! (Gal 1:8)Thank you for your efforts! mommapbs |

714 | Graceful are you here? | 1 Cor 15:3 | Mommapbs | 83254
Greetings imf - I'm just responding to this post to take it off the "unanswered questions" list as this has been up for a few days now. If "graceful" chooses to respond, you will receive a notice via e-mail as usual. In my opinion, it is best to designate personal queries as a NOTE rather than a question if you want a specific answer from a Forum member. This way, the unanswered questions of a Bibilical nature receive the attention they deserve from the Forum as a whole. Blessings on your day. mommapbs PS: I have walked in similar shoes; my third child is also a cancer survivor! Praise God for His mercy! |

717 | Can a believer be possessed? | 2 Cor 1:22 | Mommapbs | 46763
We are God's possession! (see also Eph 1:4) Jesus said, "no one can snatch them out of my hand." John10:28 Upon confession of faith in Jesus, the believer is SEALED (Eph 4:30) with the Holy Spirit. Ownership is established (2 Cor 1:22) - we have been BOUGHT with a price - the shed blood of Christ! "Don't you know that your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit?" (1 Cor. 6:19-20) The Holy Spirit is our deposit upon salvation, guaranteeing the promise of God and His presence IN our life - Christ is IN you, and once He is there, the devil and his demons cannot be! (Yes, they can and do influence believers, but they cannot possess what God has purchased! Praise Him!) Hope this helps assure you that as a believer the Devil has no authority to possess your life! And one day, we will be free from his evil influence forever! Looking to that Day! Mommapbs |

718 | What happens to Christians when they die | 2 Cor 5:8 | Mommapbs | 86980

719 | what happends after you die | 2 Cor 5:8 | Mommapbs | 123794
Jesuswalks247 - this is what God's Word says. Our spirit leaves the body and is with Christ but the body remains until Christ returns and believers are all changed in a twinkling of an eye - 1 Cor 15:50-54. Jesus told the criminal on the cross, "Today you will be with Me in Paradise" Lk 23:43, Jesus went there and the one who believed went there also when he died. But today, Jesus is not in Paradise; He is in Heaven. When a believer dies he/she will be with Him there. Oh what a day when we see Jesus, face to face. Blessings, mommapbs |

720 | How did you become a new creature ? | 2 Cor 5:17 | Mommapbs | 51078
Ephesisans 2:10 sums up the process and the plan! "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." God does it all! And we know from the creation account, what God creates, He declares "good!" Our responsibility it to trust and obey. John 3:23 Praise Him for giving us the righteousness of Christ so that we may approach Him boldly and with confidence that there is no more any condemnation! (Romans 8:1) I'd say this is a VERY permanent postion! But what really matters is what God says! John 10:26-30 Blessings! Mommapbs |
