681 | Can a Christian be a Democrat? | 1 Cor 1:10 | Mommapbs | 134050
Repost of #133165 Survivor: You could make life on the Forum much easier for yourself and the rest of us if you would merely answer the question that has been asked of you: Are you a Jehovah's Witness? And to see something about you in your user profile would also be nice. Cordially, --Hank I too would like an answer to this question. Thanks, mommapbs |

682 | Does Satan dwell within us? | 1 Cor 2:1 | Mommapbs | 83448
Greetings: using the "quick search" feature, type in this number: 4581 You will find an excellent post that addresses your topic. Also, I have copied a post I wrote a year ago on this subject for you to also consider: We are God's possession! (see also Eph 1:4) Jesus said, "no one can snatch them out of my hand." John10:28 Upon confession of faith in Jesus, the believer is SEALED (Eph 4:30) with the Holy Spirit. Ownership is established (2 Cor 1:22) - we have been BOUGHT with a price - the shed blood of Christ! "Don't you know that your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit?" (1 Cor. 6:19-20) The Holy Spirit is our deposit upon salvation, guaranteeing the promise of God and His presence IN our life - Christ is IN you, and once He is there, the devil and his demons cannot be! (Yes, they can and do influence believers, but they cannot possess what God has purchased! Praise Him!) Hope this helps assure you that as a believer the Devil has no authority to possess your life! And one day, we will be free from his evil influence forever! Looking to that Day! mommapbs |

683 | What does heaven look like? | 1 Cor 2:9 | Mommapbs | 145155
Greetings! While some Scriptures refer to certian things that we will find in Heaven and the City of God is described in Revelation, I am convinced that there is not a word in any language that could do justice to describe what heaven will be like for those who love God! Blessings, mommapbs |

684 | What does heaven look like? | 1 Cor 2:9 | Mommapbs | 145189
Aixen7z4 sent this to me, but I believe he intended it for you. I hope you are encouraged by his wise counsel. "Heaven is where God is". Yes! John heard a great voice out of heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God". We usesd to sing, "Where Jesus is, 'tis heaven there" and it seems appropriate, because he said, "I go and prepare a place for you, (and) I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also". Whereas some say that hell is here, we may counter that heaven is here as well, because Jesus is with us, and in us. See Luke 17:21. I trust those who read this are his and that you find a heaven in his presence, as in Psalm 16:11, for in his presence is fulness of joy; at his right hand there are pleasures for evermore. We may describe heaven by listing what and who will be there, primarily Jesus. We may aslo describe it by listing what and who will not be there: No sin, no sorrow, no pain, no death; but primarily, no devil. Amen. Aixen7z4 |

685 | How can anyone be saved? | 1 Cor 2:14 | Mommapbs | 60548
Greetings John Reformed! You have asked a simple but provocative question. It is one that requires some real contemplation and is quite beneficial. Thank you! Thought I'd add my two cents here. I'd like to suggest a challenging book by Gordon T. Smith entitled, "Beginning Well: Authentic Christian Conversion and Transformation." Smith states that, "Conversion is the human response to the saving work of God through Christ. . .Justification refers to the initial or foundational work of God . . . Sanctification spekas of our transformation. . . that comes purely by God's gracious work in our lives. We do not bring it about, it comes as we trut, by fatih, in what God and only God can do." The author makes other interesting observations when he asserts, "Something is profoundly flawed when justification does not lead to scantification, for this is the very purpose for which we were justified. . . Without justification as the foundation, scantification becomes nothing more than human effort and easily descends to legalism or works righteousness." To me, the important thing to keep in mind here is that salvation and transformation are God's work, not mine. God alone saves. Who can be saved? Anyone who chooses to respond to His offer of Grace. (Bear in mind that conversion and salvation are NOT the same!) Psalm 48:14 says that God will be our guide until death. He is before us, guiding us toward our heavenly home. I see it this way, ALL who choose (these are the converted) His (Salvation, God's offer of Grace) Way, to follow Him,(God transforms) will be welcomed into eternity (these are the saved). But, conversely, even though the Lord is always there, willing to guide us on the path everlasting, God's Word also cautions us, that there is a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof leads to death (Prov 16:25). Truly, this is most often a straight road paved with "good intentions!" I have no authority to decide who is saved and who is not. Nor do I have the ability to discern the work of God in the heart of another if I allow the picture that I have created to describe a "Christian" to be the counterweight of my judgment. It seems reasonable to me to be gracious (and patient!), as God is gracious(and patient!)with me, as I extend the love of God toward others in my relationship with them. In order to see the work of God in the life of another, I must be willing to let HIM reveal it to me, in His way and in His time. As seeds beging to grow, they all tend to look the same. If I discard the shoot before it matures based upon how I think a plant is supposed to look, I may deprive myself of a bountiful havest. By pretermining what a Christian is supposed to look like, instead of looking for God's description, I may hinder another's growth in their relationship with the Lord. May we all here at the Forum be willing to extend grace to one another as we endeavor to study God's Word and come to known Him personally. Blessings, Mommapbs |

687 | Receiving and accepting spiritual things | 1 Cor 2:14 | Mommapbs | 60946
Greetings Ray! Just wondering about this. As a believer, in our flesh we still must live with the "natural man". Now, If we choose to allow the natural man to reign, we cannot discern or understand the deep things of the Spirit of God which have been given to us. But when we are yeilded to the control of the Lord, allowing the indwelling Holy Spirit to be at work in our eartly bodies, then we will preceive spiritual things. I suspect that because there is a struggle within, we wrestle with one another on issues that are only Spiritually discerned. What do you think? Blessings of the peace of His presence on your day. 688 | Is it accurate to say that God dwells in | 1 Cor 3:16 | Mommapbs | 72256
Greetings and welcome to the Forum. When posting it would help those who might respond if you would include a Scripture connected to your question. I have included two references for you to consider. We are called the "temple" of God in 1 Cor 3:16. Collectively and individually the presence of God, by His Spirit, dwells within the believer. It is He who makes, equips and enables us for every good work.(Eph 2:10) "However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him." Romans 8:9 In this verse, do you see a difference between the Spirit, the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ? They are the same; what is different here? mommapbs |

689 | Wanting more clarity | 1 Cor 3:16 | Mommapbs | 72299
You asked: "why all the trouble in distinguishing the members of the triune God?" Why do you see this as "trouble?" I suspect that God desires us to worship His complete nature and that is why He reveals Himself as different members of the Trinity in Scripture. I also suspect that "on our own," we would worship God compartmentally and not in the fullness of His Being. I have copied here an excellent post by kalos, whom I respect, on this Forum. Kalos writes, "Basically the Trinity is one What (God) and three Who's (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Can the Trinity be explained? Not by me. I never try to explain that which cannot be explained. However, I'll do my best to simplify the definition of the doctrine. I make no attempt to explain the Trinity, only to define it. "V. THE TRINITY . . . "A. Definition. There is only one God, but in the unity of the Godhead there are three eternal and coequal Persons, the same in substance but distinct in subsistence. . . . "Proof. 1. O.T. intimations. The O.T. does not reveal the Trinity but it allows for the later revelation of it." See Gen. 1:1, 26; Isa. 6:8; Gen 22:11, 15-16. . . . "2. N.T. confirmation. In the N.T. there is clear revelation that Father, Son, and Spirit are God; thus a Triunity or Trinity (neither is a biblical word)." See John 6:27; Eph 4:6; Heb 1:8; Acts 5:3-4. These Scriptures indicate that the Father is God, Jesus Christ is God, and the Spirit is God. One God -- three persons. "The three Persons are associated equally and as one (Matt 28:19; "name"; 2 Cor 13:14)." For further study do a "Quick Search" on the word "trinity" or "triune" I hope this helps. mommapbs |

690 | Five words of power. Part three | 1 Cor 4:16 | Mommapbs | 50021
Hi Ray! Start me from the beginning! I'm reading this passage and what I seem to understand from Paul is that he is chataizing the church for allowing men without the power of the Lord Jesus to minister in their midst. The "arrogant" are accused of being unrepentant for their sinful conduct and at the same time it appears that the church is being held accountable for not disciplining. Guide me through this, I'd be happy to dialog with you! (It's interesting, as I can think of some concrete examples of this very thing!) Blessings, Mommapbs |

691 | What does1 Cor. 5:11 mean? | 1 Cor 5:1 | Mommapbs | 104747
Greetings! I want to speak the Truth in love for I believe that you are jealous for the Lord. And although I don't want to judge your actions I'd like to ask you to be introspective for a moment . . . . What are you really upset about, the fact that the woman is continuing to live in sin or that she did not heed your counsel? Some observations for you to consider: Are we not all sinners? Do we dare judge the soul of another? God's Word tells us that there is healing when we confess our sins to one another. (James 5:16) Note also the response that God desires when one confesses, not "counsel" but rather PRAYER. BTW, I am believer and I still sin! I was forgiven on a cross many years ago. As I recognize my rebellion and sin, I repent. I agree with the Lord about this and seek His power to be at work in me to enable my feeble spirit to choose HIS way. I thank Him for His forgiveness and His cleansing, making me into something that I can not - a clean vessel fit for His use. Sometimes I need help from my sisters and brothers in the Lord and I thank God for those who will not judge or condemn me for my failures, but rather come along side to pray and encourage me to place my faith and trust in His ability . . . and sometimes this takes a lot of time. Let us remember that love is patient - it covers a multitude of sins, even ones that others commit! Blessings, mommapbs |

692 | Please explain 1Cor 5:5 | 1 Cor 5:5 | Mommapbs | 85392
Greetings! When you are asking about a specific verse. Check to see if there are any notes posted on it first. In put the reference. You will see the letters I, N,and C in boxes. If the N is green, there are postings about this verse.(You can "click" on the N to see what has been written an follow the thread.) I have copied a response that you may find helpful by Makarios: I believe that Paul is using his authority as an apostle of the church to direct the church to use their authority as a congregation to excommunicate the immoral brother who refuses correction from sin. Paul is speaking here in the best interest of the one who should be punished as well as that of the church. "5:5 to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh. This evidently means that the church was to discipline this sinning brother by committing him to Satan’s domain, the world (1 John 5:19), and to Satan’s chastisement, the destruction or ruin of his body (flesh means “body” here) through sickness or even death. destruction does not mean annihilation but ruin. Persistent sin often leads to physical punishment (11:30; 1 John 5:16-17)." (Ryrie's Study Bible) "Evil and Suffering, Satan—God can use Satan’s treatment of a person to discipline the person, leading that individual to repentance and restoration with God’s people. Satan does not intend to help a person towards salvation. Anyone outside the fellowship of the church is under Satan’s power. A believer cannot live under such conditions and will eventually return to God or die. Spiritual exclusion may lead to physical death but not to damnation." (Believer's Study Bible) --Nolan |

693 | what is the state of the dead in Christ? | 1 Cor 5:8 | Mommapbs | 36265
Greetings in Jesus' Name! Paul reminds us that when we are absent from the body we are present with the Lord. Where Jesus is, we will be also. According to 1 Cor 15:50-55, the "new bodies" believers receive are given at the coming of Christ to gather His own unto Himself. The perishable are the dead in Christ and the mortal are those who are still alive at His coming. Both receive heavenly bodies, for flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Cor 15:50). The Lord even goes so far to comfort us in the order these bodies are give, first to Christ, next to those believers who have died and lastly to those who remain at His coming. Both the dead and living in Christ are changed in a "tinkling of an eye, yet the dead get theirs first - might this be kind of a reward?! As for John 5:25 - the "dead" in this verse refers to those who are spiritually dead, not physically dead. John 3:13 - Until the ressurrection of Christ, the righteous resided in the "Paradise" side of Sheol and the wicked were confined to "Torments" See the account of Lazarus and the rich man (luke 16). I believe that in the context of John 3:13, Jesus is referring to the future death of His body prior to His asension. I'll admit it is confusing but we have to accept the Lord's testimony on the matter when understanding is not possible. There are two individuals in Scripture who did not experience physical death (Enoch - Gen 5:24 and Elijah - 2 Kings 2:11). Elijah was taken up into heaven - was this the "Third Heaven," the throne room of God or was this just the description of what Elisha saw as he went up into the sky? As far as these two individuals are concerned, I suspect that they are the TWO WITNESSES mentioned in Revelation 11. We read that they will eventually suffer death of the body too. They will also be ressurected! Which would consistent and confirm the statement that Jesus made in John 3:13. Also, bear in mind again that "flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God", which at this time is being prepared for us! Some things to consider. . . but "the secret things of God belong to God! Dt. 29:29 |

694 | How do we respond to our daughter living | 1 Cor 5:11 | Mommapbs | 72005
Greetings - I too have had similar experiences with our children so I feel your pain at this time. For me, I came to see this as a glimspe that God gave for me to understand the grief that penetrates His heart when each of us sin. I caution you to walk very carefully as you love the sinner and hate the sin. It is all too easy to fall into the trap of legalism or performance Christianity when we "judge". God's Word offers specific directions to "correct" one another in love. (See Matthew 18) However, the application of measures as spelled out here should be the last resort and not undertaken hastily or without Godly counsel from one who is familiar with your family and the measures that you have already put into place. As far as the influence of your daughter's lifestyle upon your other children is concerned, if you have taught them right from wrong, they will recognize your daughter's behavior for what it is - sin. Bear in mind the words of Jesus to the crowd around the woman caught in adultery - "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." John 8:7 I encourage you to re-read the account of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15. The father let the wayward boy go. Note that he didn't run after or rescue him in his waywardness, but as soon as he saw him return, then he ran out to meet and welcome him home. We cannot "make" out children or anyone else walk with the Lord. We can show them the way, but then the choice of following is their own. (And yes, the consequences of that choice belongs to them as well!) I KNOW that this is a hard pill to swallow, but I can offer you some encouragement and hope in your situation. When Mary exclaimed, "All things are possible with God," she realized that her obedience to His plan was necessary. Likewise in parenting, there are times in our children's lives when our obedience requires that WE get out of the way. When we do this, we recognize the sovereignty and sufficiency of God as the Perfect Parent. Don't preach; let your life reflect what you know about the love of God. And if you need a reminder of how great it it, check out Romans 5:8. This applies to your daughter as well as all of us! I'll join you in prayer about this. I urge you to ask of God and listen for His direction before you lift any scripture and try to apply it to your situation on your own. Blessings, mommapbs PS: James Dobson's "Love Must Be Tough" is a book that, although written for troubled marriages, might be worth looking at for some guidance in your relationship and counselling of your daughter. |

695 | Are drugs wrong? | 1 Cor 6:19 | Mommapbs | 68400
Greetings Hill - welcome to the Forum. Use the quick search feature at the top right of your screen. Input the words: drugs alcohol and you will find some discussions on these topics. Bottom line it this, drug use usually signals a dependency problem. When we we depend upon anything or anyone other than God, it is idolatry. Does "thou shalt have no other gods before me" sound familiar?!!! See 1 Cor 10:1-14; Col 3:5. No matter what, YOU can set the example, but you can not force others to follow it. Non believers will not respond to God's Word, because it is spiritually understood. (1 Cor 2)Those without the Spirit of Christ can not comprehend the Truth of God in this verse (1 Cor 6:19) May God strenghten you in your relationships with others to remain steadfast in Him. Phil 4:13 Blessings, mommpabs |

696 | Is Sex before marriage a sin? | 1 Cor 7:2 | Mommapbs | 108751
Greetings! On behalf of the Forum, I apologize for the reply you received that contradicts God's Word. That post is in violation of the Lockman Foundation guidelines that we agree to abide by when posting to this site. Yes, pre-marital sex is wrong; yes, it is a sin. "Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge." Heb 13:4 What happens if a person has sex before marraige? They are openly rebelling against God's law and are subject to the emotional and possible physical (unwanted pregnancy, disease, etc) consequences of their choice. "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap." Gal 6:7 Christ paid the penalty for ALL sin on the cross. Upon your repentence and confession of faith in His atoning sacrifice for your sin, you are free from the penalty (eternal separation from God) BUT, not necessarily from the consequences of your sin! Marrriage is a picture of the union that God desires with us - He longs for a virgin bride - but because of our sin nature, all of us are defiled, impure - we have chased after other "lovers!" Yet, IN CHRIST, we are made into brand new creations, clothed in HIS righteousness, our purity restored. It is indeed an awesome act of GOd's grace to be made clean in this way! I hope this encourages you to choose to be obedient to God's Word. espeically in the area of sexual purity. In Christ's love, mommapbs |

697 | Can one have the Spirit of God? | 1 Cor 7:40 | Mommapbs | 108484
"Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge." 2 Cor 1:21-22 According to this verse, all believers have been given the Spirit. I suspect that Paul is perhaps justifying his opinion here by stating that he believes that it is from the indwelling Spirit. Frankly, marriage to a flawed human being is quite a challenge in comparison to being united with Jesus Christ so I am inclinded to agree with Paul on this! What are you thinking about Ray? Blessings! mommapbs |

698 | Self control and Spirit controlled? | 1 Cor 9:25 | Mommapbs | 50032
Please note: There is NO Biblical support for "reading the Bible" as a prerequisite for being filled with the Spirit. (The following is quoted from page 2064, the Ryrie Study Bible Expanded Edition, Moody, 1986, 1995.) . X. THE FILLING OF THE SPIRIT. . . . A. DEFINITION. Being filled means being controlled by the Spirit (Eph 5:18). . . . B. CHARACTERISTICS. 1) Filling is commanded (Eph 5:18, the verb is imperative). 2) Filling is repeated (Acts 2:4; 4:31). 3) Filling produces Christlikeness (Gal 5:22-23). . . . C. CONDITIONS FOR BEING FILLED. . . . 1) *A dedicated life*. Yielding to the Spirit's control, though commanded, is voluntary and necessitates an act of dedication. This includes two aspects: initial dedication (Rom 12:1-2) and continual dedication of one's life (Rom 8:14). 2) *An undefeated life*. Victory over sin in daily experience is necessary in being controlled by the Spirit (Eph 4:30). This means responding to the light of the Word as it is continually revealed (1 John 1:7). 3) *A dependent life* (Gal 5:16). . . . D. CONSEQUENCES. Being filled or controlled by the Spirit means: 1) A Christlike character (Gal 5:22-23). 2) Worship and praise (Eph 5:18-20). 3) Submissiveness (Eph 5:21). 4) Service (John 7:37-39)." I approach "self-control" as a conscious choice of "dying to self." This is "self" control! Then, I choose to allow the Holy Spirit to be "in control" - it is a deliberate act of the will. Not my will, but THY will be done Lord! (see Luke 22:42) Not "my" way but(Your way!) Yahweh! Blessings, Mommapbs |

699 | Placing more burdens on you? | 1 Cor 10:13 | Mommapbs | 30520
"No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it."1 Cor 10:13 All to often believers mistakenly use this Scripture and translate temptations into "burdens." As far as carrying burdens, they need to be carried no further than the cross! Jesus promises us that in the world we will have trouble (John 16:33) but in the same verse He encourages and assures us that HE has overcome the world! Jesus reminds us (John 15:5) that apart from Him, we can do nothing. He will never give us anything more than HE can bear! What does this tell you about your burdens? In His peace, Mommapbs |

700 | Why glorify satan? | 1 Cor 10:31 | Mommapbs | 87561
Greetings prazn! I appreciate your viewpoint. Just recently I have been doing a study that illuminates the lies of the devil WITH the Truth of God's Word - in many areas, I had no idea I had fallen into his traps! Eph 5:11 - we are told not to participate in the deeds of darkness, but rather expose them - we are not to ignorant of the devil's schemes either!(2 Cor 2:11) God has given us everything we need to stand firm against the wiles of the evil one we are told to be wise, and make the most of every opportunity for the days are evil. (Eph 5:15-16; 6:13) When we know what we believe and we recognize the schemes of the devil, in contrast to that faith, we are able to extinguish all the arrows he shoots our way (Eph 6:16) Certainly we can and do glorify God when we use HIS WORD to expose who the devil is, what his purposes are and how he deceives (even believers!) Well, that's just my two cents on the topic. From a previous post I would ask again,do you believe there will be an individual anitchrist? mommapbs |
