541 | "kalos, please don't reply to me..." | John 1:1 | Mommapbs | 46965
Greeting Kalos! Just an observation about your statement: "The Bible IS the Word of God." John 1:1 states that "In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God." How did the Word become "the Bible?" John tells us that "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us!" (v 14) I agree, the Bible is indeed the Word of God, but dare we limit God by suggesting that He can ONLY speak to us from these Divinely inspired pages? God often speaks to me through the posts on this Forum! Shouldn't we all be bothered when Forum members (I include myself here too!)stoop to "name calling" or slander the ideas of others in an unloving manner? "Let your speech (conversation) be full of grace" Col 4:6 Blessings, Mommapbs |

543 | Two beginnings? | John 1:1 | Mommapbs | 106543
Greetings and welcome to the Forum! My initial (reasoning) response is that since God is eternal, He has no beginning or end. If something has a beginning (or genesis), it is a created thing; it therefore is not God. Even when Jesus appeared in the flesh He announced "before Abraham was born, I AM." (John 8:58) He always existed; He had no beginning. Eternity past had no beginning either, therefore the beginning in both Genesis and and John could be the same event in time. "In the beginning GOD," and "In the beginning was the Word,"further expands our information about the nature of the Godhead "in the beginning!" Just some thoughts for you to consider! Blessings mommapbs PS: As a scientist, how does first law of theromdynamics or the conservation of matter align with God's Word? Once created, what happens to it? Can it be destroyed? ie. once created is it infinite in existence? I think about these things sometimes . . . |

Survivor - you have been asked repeatedly by different Forum members to declare yourself openly. Please respond to this re-post of #133165 Survivor: You could make life on the Forum much easier for yourself and the rest of us if you would merely answer the question that has been asked of you: Are you a Jehovah's Witness? And to see something about you in your user profile would also be nice. Cordially, --Hank I too would like an answer to this question. Thanks, mommapbs |

546 | Who believes the Bible? 2 Tim 3:16 | John 1:17 | Mommapbs | 48887
Greetings Grace and Truth, welcome to the Forum. Please explain "Let's talk Bible!" Not everyone speaks the same "language" nor does everyone understand the same language. What do you expect to happen when we all "talk Bible?" How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news - to teach the WORD of God to others who have yet to know His Truth! So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. (See Romans 10:15-17) Many on this Forum do not know the "language" of The Bible yet - many may not know that God's Heart is Trustworthy! Let's always remember to be encouraging them to come to know and love the One who loves them (and us) with ALL His heart! The Lord Jesus met people where they were, as He continues to meet each of us where we are today! His invitation remains open - to come and dine, to enjoy fellowship together, which to me, presents a picture of friendly conversation, of interchange and dialogue BUT NOT preaching! As you will discover, many of us on the Forum are passionate about what we believe about Jesus, because this is HOW we have come to know Him (as limited as it is in this life!). Some may be more simple in their approach. Not all are seeking THE Truth, but rather A truth they want to believe. It is important to discern the difference. This Forum is an opportunity for sharing, caring, learning, discovering and hiding as well! Please consider what you desire to gain from your participation here. You can walk softly and still carry a stick. Blessings in Jesus' Name, Mommapbs |

547 | I'm needing the answer on Galations 5 | John 3:3 | Mommapbs | 90962
Greetings in our Savior's Name! Once upon a time there was a little boy who broke his father's prized possession. He was afraid. What would his father do to him? With tears and fears, the little boy carried the pieces to his daddy. Seeing his face and hearing his sobs, the little boy's father rushed to his side saying, "Son, what is the matter, are you OK?" Between heaves, the little boy said, "Oh daddy, look what I've broken!" The father threw his arms around his son saying, "Oh son, I am so glad that you are all right, I thought YOU were broken! Don't worry, I'll put it all back together; I'm the best "fixer!" It is the same with our Heavenly Father. Yes, we, God's prized creation, are ruined by sin. We are all sinners, and sin separates us from Him. Should be be afraid? Yes and no. Yes, if we choose to reject Jesus, God's propitiation for our sinfulness. You see, when you accepted Christ as your risen Savior and Lord, you believed that HE paid the pentalty for your sin - that God's wrath against sin was satisfied, and as a result you received TOTAL AND COMPLETE forgiveness. Because of what Christ has done, you are complelely forgiven and totally accepted and approved by God. When Jesus declared "It is finished," it WAS. Your payment for sin was satisfied. Therefore, there is NO CONDEMNDATION for those who are IN CHRIST! (Rom 5:8) HIS perfect love (for you as demonstrated on the cross) casts out fear.(1 John 4:18) God has already punished Christ for our sin, so why do we persist in thinking that we need more forgiveness? I suspect it is because we have not completley grasped the message of the cross (mercy and grace) and specifically the awesome wrath of God and the propitiation of Jesus. When we continually ruminate over our sin and wallow in "sorrow" for a time as a "penance," this becomes a "work". NOTHING we can do will EVER attone for our sin! Yet, by our response to sin, wondering if we are truley forgiven, is a clear indication that somehow we have not understood the COMPLETE forgiveness we have in Christ. For the BELIEVER, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and clease us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9), CAN be misunderstood IF we make forgiveness conditional upon our confession. Our forgiveness is based soley upon the finished work of Christ which we are given ONCE - upon our confession of faith in Him. (Agreeing with God that we are a sinner in need of a Savior!) Suppose the little boy in the story I wrote came to his daddy day after day begging to be forgiven for what he had done. How would that father eventually feel? Perhaps frustrated at first and then very sad as he realized that his beloved child did not trust him - he didn't believe he had been truly forgiven. Isn't this just the way that we approach our Heavenly Father at times? Our adversary loves to remind us of our past failures . . . it keeps our minds focused upon self and not the Savior! In essence, we say to God that our sinfulness is too great for Him to forgive, or that Christ's sacrificial death was inadequate for our sin! These are lies from the pit of hell! For the wrath of God against sin was TOTALLY satisfied by the cross! So now, when the Holy Spirit convicts you of sin, confess and make a decision to repent of it, agree with God about it, let Him do the cleansing and claim the forgiveness that is ALREADY yours! Remember when Jesus washed the disciples feet? He told them that the one who is clean already only needs to wash his feet . . . you see, just as a foot bath is a refreshing reminder of the whole bath, our time of confession is to be the same, a joyous reminder of the forgiveness we have in our salvation! Ponder these things . . . the more you place your confidence on the finished work of Christ, the less you will focus on the work that you can not do! I hope this long but heartfelt response strikes a chord in your spirit and assures you that you are a deeply loved child of the King! Enjoy His embrace. Blessings, mommapbs |

548 | Water alone means baptism? (Question 2) | John 3:5 | Mommapbs | 134747
Greetings Doc - the word that comes to mind is "cleansed." "But a voice from heaven answered a second time, 'What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.'Acts 11:9 Eph 5:26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, "And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' Act 11:16 Johns baptism was for the repentance of sins - Christ's baptism with the Holy Spirit is for our regeneration (the forgiveness of sins) - only God can forgive sin. Repentance precedes forgiveness. "Therefore if God gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also AFTER believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?" Acts 11:17 (EPH - mine) Heb 9:22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. May the Lord bless you as you ponder His Word! mommapbs |

551 | Did God make snakes? | John 3:14 | Mommapbs | 46456
Greetings Giam! Re Gen 3 and John 3 The serpent and the snake are NOT the same! First of all, satan was a beautiful yet beguiling creature - just because he is called a serpent in Gen 3:1 does not mean that we are to classify him as a "snake." In fact, because of what God says in Gen 3:14 . . . "Cursed are you above all livestock and wild animals," . . . it seems reasonable to me that the serpent was not ANY of the species that God created in Gen 1:24-25! I have reached this conclusion BECAUSE when God surveyed what he had created, He declared it GOOD! Jesus said, "No one is good--except God alone." Luke 18:19. So, following this line of thinking, that old serpent (Satan) and snakes cannot be connected! All snakes are placed in the class Reptilia and the order Squamata (meaning "the scaly ones"), along with the lizards. Snakes are in the suborder Serpentes. Yes, the bronze snake of Moses was in this "suborder" Serpentes! (Check out what happened to it in 2 Kings 18:4!) But this snake is NOT to be confused with the serpent of Gen 3! Feel free to love snakes . . .in a herpetorium or in a handbag! Blessings! Mommapbs RE: God's curse on the serpent Satan in Gen 3:14. Frankly, I think that the most important aspect of this verse is the "crawling on the belly" part. What do you think this means? |

552 | Is God really I am who or what I am? | John 3:14 | Mommapbs | 46466
You asked:"Can we really hate any creature God created and still totally love the Creator of what we hate?" Giam, I hope you have read my post to you by now! Surely you can differentiate between good and evil! Let's also differentiate between the created BEING Satan, and the creation of living things (animals etc). Satan, is an angelic being; he's in a different class from all creation and is even in a class higher than mankind (the Incarnate Jesus was described as being "created a little lower than the angels" See Hebrews 2) Always keep in mind that God called His creation good; but remember who spoiled it? You cite Romans 8:38-39. This is so reassuring, God's love prevails inspite of the influence of sin! NOTHING that God created in heaven (Satan and his followers) or on earth can EVER separate us from HIS love for us! God gives us the choice to love. In the Garden, Satan attempted to steal that love from our Creator. He is still trying to win our hearts today; and we still have the choice: WHO to love? "Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. " Romans 12:9 We can love what is good and hate what is evil - but it's important to recognize the difference! Blessings in Him, Mommapbs |

554 | Why can God can love the world, not us? | John 3:16 | Mommapbs | 86494
Greetings! God can "love the world" because God is absolutely Holy and unchageable. We, on the other hand are not! Recently, I was struck by a comment from Beth Moore. She said, "You become what your focus is." So, if we choose to "love the world", we will become like the world. This is in direct contrast to God's command to "be holy." (1 Peter 1:14-16) In order to do this, we must remain focused on Jesus (Heb 12:2)- to be conformed to HIS likeness. (Rom 8:29;12:2)Therefore, God's admonition to not love the world is for our protection and part of the process He uses to make us complete in Christ. mommapbs |

555 | What shall I do? | John 4:7 | Mommapbs | 75367
Ivory313: Kalos wrote you a very good response to this. The situation that you have described is beyond your ability to "fix" on your own. Since the leadership of your church has been compromised and the elders of the church have obviously not responded Biblically to sin in their midst, perhaps it is time to seek fellowship with a group of believers who will not "wink" at sin. Just a thought for you to consider. A church is a place where the sick go to be healed, not to become more sick. May God direct you to where He wants you to be - where He is honored . . . pray and seek! mommapbs |

557 | Can we worship outside of our community? | John 4:23 | Mommapbs | 29596
I think that perhaps we should emphasize HOW we worship rather than where! But in answer to your question . . . So, of course we can worship anywhere . . . but . . . We must not forget the importance of "assembling ourselves together;" joining in worship with a local body of believers is pleasing to the Lord. We lift our praises and adoration of Jesus in unity and in harmony! Being in a local worshipping community is also important because in our union, we are able to minister to one another with the gifts that God has given for our individual and corporate edification. (See 1 Corinthians 12!) |

558 | Spiritual understanding? | John 4:23 | Mommapbs | 30922
Greetings! Amazing that you would ask as just this morning I was reflecting on this Scripture! God is so awesome, to knit believers together in Him even in cyberspace! This verse suggests that worship is to be balanced. Worship in the Spirit, apart from the Truth (the Word of God)is akin to mysticism. Worship without the Spirit results in legalism (and/or ritualism?) Because of the indwelling of the Lord, believers have this privilege to worship God as He desires! In John 15:5 Jesus said, "apart from me you can do nothing." (Even worship!) |

559 | Worship service or performance? | John 4:24 | Mommapbs | 93153
Greetings Hank - Now, I know that this is a really OLD post, so dust off the cobwebs and revisit it with me OK? Just today I was wondering about clapping hands and so I searched the Forum before I asked the question - Aside from - "O clap your hands, all peoples; Shout to God with the voice of joy." Ps 47:1 and "Then he brought the king's son out and put the crown on him and gave him the testimony; and they made him king and anointed him, and they clapped their hands and said, "Long live the king!" 2 Kings 11:12 - the scriptures that I found indicated that in the majority of instances, hands were clapped in a derogatory manner as a judgement against someone or thing. All who pass along the way Clap their hands in derision at you; They hiss and shake their heads At the daughter of Jerusalem, "Is this the city of which they said, 'The perfection of beauty, A joy to all the earth'?" Lam 2:15; See also Job 27:23; 34:37; Ez 6:11, 21:14, 25:6 Now consider this verse: "I will also clap My hands together, and I will appease My wrath; I, the LORD, have spoken." Ez 21:17 What do you make of this? Is applause misused or abused? mommapbs |

560 | whats the reference to our day? | John 4:48 | Mommapbs | 85534
I'm not sure I understand what you are asking, but as I read this, I am reminded of the patriarchs of old who just simply trusted that God would do as He said. They did not see the promised Messiah of God and yet they believed . . . the people were looking for signs and wonders not God who stood before them as Jesus. So perhaps it is today . . .people flock to the sensational rather than choose to develop a sensitivity to the Spirit of God in their midst. Yes, signs and wonders and miracles are wonderful manifestations of God at work, but He STILL IS even when it is not evident! "Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed." John 20:29. Does this answer your question? mommapbs |
