403 | Can anyone else answer this question? | Joel 2:28 | Mommapbs | 113365
Sir Pent - I have thought about this and although I have no absolute answers I would offer this observation. Mark 1:8 tells us that Jesus would baptize believers with the Holy Spirit - we would be indwelt - this is our SPIRITUAL BAPTISM. How can the Holy Spirit indwell an unclean vessel? (And this is what OT "believers" were!) When Christ attoned for our sins, everyone had the possibility of becoming NEW (and clean) on the basis of faith in Him. In the Old Testament, the Spirit came upon individuals of God's choosing. John the Baptist was the ONLY person prior to Christ's death and ressurection who was described as full of the Holy Spirit - from before birth.(Lk 1:15) Yet, could the Spirit be withdrawn? I suspect so. At Pentacost, when the Spirit was given, it was given and received into "New Creatures" IN Christ as a permanent DEPOSIT, guaranteeing our redemption and future life with Him. Does this make sense to you? Blessings, mommapbs |

404 | Can anyone else answer this question? | Joel 2:28 | Mommapbs | 113380
From BradK via mommapbs Sir Pent, This is an interesting, but challenging question, one of which I certainly don’t have a complete answer. Here are some thoughts. Possibly others will be able to fill the gaps. The most immediate reference that comes to mind is John. 14:16-17, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” We can start by what we do know about God’s “timing” in regards to Christ. In Gal 4:4-6 it says,”But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!" We simply know that it was the fullness of time- God’s own time- in which Christ was sent. We might rightly infer that it was certainly in God's timing when He chose to send the Spirit, though scripture seems silent on the "why".In verse 6 we have that God literally "delegated out the Spirit of the Son." The verses which prophesy of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (Is 32:15; 44:3; Eze 39:29; Joe 2:28; Mt 3:11; Mk 1:8; Lu 3:16; Jn 1:33; 7:38–39; Ac 1:5) unfortunately don’t tell us “why”as to timing. 407 | Age restrictions | Amos 3:3 | Mommapbs | 110409
Hi reloti! There is nothing in the Bible that speaks of age restrictions that I am aware of, yet I would suggest that at this point in time, according to Amos 3:3 the age difference does matter. If we define sinful as anything that is contrary to God's will, this MAY fall into that category. I'm not going to go out on a legalistic limb here though. A young man of 24 and a young woman of 28 have MUCH MORE in common than a young woman at 18 and a boy of 14. You will have more fun being with people who are experiencing the same things that you are. At 18 you are probably getting ready to leave High School and think about college or a career field. A boy of 14 has several years of schooling left to complete and all that accompany the high school experience. My suggestion is to put this relationship on hold for about 10 years. If it is meant to be, it will be. I am glad to see that you are interested in honoring what God's Word has to say! I hope that you will evaluate every decision in this way first. May God bless your life, Mommapbs |

408 | Give me more reference about "Ash Wednes | Jon 3:6 | Mommapbs | 33494
Greetings sonia! Always remember to check the "search feature" on the forum as your question may have already been answered. I have taken the liberty of reprining a previous response here. Also, note the response of the king of Ninevah upon hearing the Word of God. He repented. Although the application of ashes is symbolic of repentence, God alone sees our "broken and contrite hearts!" Blessings, Mommapbs 2 What is Ash Wednesday? Answer Bible general LisaMarie Wed 11/14/01, 3:44pm From NewAdvent.org Ash Wednesday The Wednesday after Quinquagesima Sunday, which is the first day of the Lenten fast. The name dies cinerum (day of ashes) which it bears in the Roman Missal is found in the earliest existing copies of the Gregorian Sacramentary and probably dates from at least the eighth century. On this day all the faithful according to ancient custom are exhorted to approach the altar before the beginning of Mass, and there the priest, dipping his thumb into ashes previously blessed, marks the forehead -- or in case of clerics upon the place of the tonsure -- of each the sign of the cross, saying the words: "Remember man that thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return." The ashes used in this ceremony are made by burning the remains of the palms blessed on the Palm Sunday of the previous year. In the blessing of the ashes four prayers are used, all of them ancient. The ashes are sprinkled with holy water and fumigated with incense. The celebrant himself, be he bishop or cardinal, receives, either standing or seated, the ashes from some other priest, usually the highest in dignity of those present. In earlier ages a penitential procession often followed the rite of the distribution of the ashes, but this is not now prescribed. There can be no doubt that the custom of distributing the ashes to all the faithful arose from a devotional imitation of the practice observed in the case of public penitents. But this devotional usage, the reception of a sacramental which is full of the symbolism of penance (cf. the corcontritum quasi cinis of the "Dies Irae") is of earlier date than was formerly supposed. It is mentioned as of general observance for both clerics and faithful in the Synod of Beneventum, 1091 (Mansi, XX, 739), but nearly a hundred years earlier than this the Anglo-Saxon homilist Ælfric assumes that it applies to all classes of men. "We read", he says, in the books both in the Old Law and in the New that the men who repented of their sins bestrewed themselves with ashes and clothed their bodies with sackcloth. Now let us do this little at the beginning of our Lent that we strew ashes upon our heads to signify that we ought to repent of our sins during the Lenten fast. And then he enforces this recommendation by the terrible example of a man who refused to go to church for the ashes on Ash Wednesday and who a few days after was accidentally killed in a boar hunt (Ælfric, Lives of Saints, ed. Skeat, I, 262-266). It is possible that the notion of penance which was suggested by the rite of Ash Wednesday was was reinforced by the figurative exclusion from the sacred mysteries symbolized by the hanging of the Lenten veil before the sanctuary. But on this and the practice of beginning the fast on Ash Wednesday see LENT. |

409 | Is Hab 3:3 talking about mohammad? | Hab 3:3 | Mommapbs | 120757
Greetings eyeneedanswers and welcome to the Forum! God's Word speaks about God - Mohammed was just a man. From post 99791 Habakkuk 3:3 "God comes from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. His splendor covers the heavens, and the earth is full of His praise." [NASB] Here is a bit of commentary on this verse: "3:3 God comes. When celebrating the exodus, the OT poets (and poet-prophets) combined recollections of the mighty acts of God with conventional images of a fearsome manifestation of the Lord. He came down with His heavenly host and rode on the mighty thunderstorm as His chariot, with His arrows flying in all directions, a cloudburst of rain descending on the earth and the mountains quaking before Him (see Deut. 33:2; Judg. 5:4-5; Ps. 18:7-15; 68:4-10, 32-35; 77:16-19; Mic. 1:3-4). Such figures characterize many of the references in the following verses. Teman. Means "southland." God is pictured as coming from the area south of Judah during the exodus." (1) "3:3 Teman is a poetic reference to God's appearance at Sinai (see Deut. 33:2). .." (2) "3:3 Teman ... Mount Paran. Teman, named after a grandson of Esau, was an Edomite city (Amos 1:12; Obadiah 9). Mount Paran was located in the Sinai peninsula. Both allude to the theater in which God displayed great power when He brought Israel into the land of Canaan (cf. Deut. 33:2; Judg. 5:4)." 410 | A Loving GOD Who Hates | Mal 1:3 | Mommapbs | 59955
I agree with what prayon wrote. Yet here is another aspect of the charater of God which we should consider. Deut 12:31 says, "You shall not behave thus toward the LORD your God, for every abominable act which the LORD hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods." I am drawn to the words, "for every abominable act which the LORD hates". I believe this verse indicates that God expresses hatred, just as He expresses anger and jealousy.(Aren't these also emotions that we, in our limited humanity, attach a negative or evil spin to?) God HATES SIN however, God IS love,(1 John 4:8) and Love covers a multitude of sins.(1 Peter 4:8) And, in Christ, God demonstrates His love toward us . . . (Romans 5:8) This reminds me to HATE the SIN and LOVE the SINNER! Hope this encourages you! Blessings, Mommapbs |

411 | what did Jesus promise | Matthew | Mommapbs | 24003
Matthew 5:1-7 et al Jesus said, "Blessed" are those who mourn,"(we mourn losses, the most significant loss we are to mourn is our relationship with God). How can this be a blessed or happy experience? It seems confusing until we add the promise: "for they WILL be comforted." Jesus also said "Blessed (Happy) are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they WILL be satisfied. Jesus is the Bread of Life and He offers us the Water of Life - these alone will satisfy our needs. So when we seek Jesus, we can be assured that all our needs will be satisfied. Refer also to Matthew 6:33. I believe that Jesus made these statements as part of His message of the Good News of the Kingdom - the promise of restoration which is coming to those who believe. I also believe that the Church has lost focus on this aspect of Jesus teaching - who wouldn't long for the day when we will be free from sin and it's ruin? Who wouldn't long for the day when we will enjoy God personal presence and all that He promises in His Word (including the Beatitudes). Some will argue that we can enjoy comfort and satisfaction here and now, but I believe this is more consistent with the promise of Heaven. Jesus said, "In this world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer for I have over come the world." "I go to prepare a place for you so that where I am you may be also." ! So how are we "blessed?" How are we to be "happy?" I believe our blessing is found in the confident expectation (and anticipation) that Jesus is coming again, and He is bringing His reward with Him for those who belong to Him! Happiness depends upon happenings, and Heaven will happen - it is a sure thing! Hope this encourages you today in whatever "grief" you are experiencing. |

412 | Tribulation before rapture? | Matthew | Mommapbs | 34665
Greetings! Remember that Jesus said, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33 Tribulation is another word for trouble. So many of the signs that Jesus mentioned that would precede His coming have or are taking place. We Americans have no concept of famine or true martyrdom, yet many Christians live under persecution and in famine stricken conditions. Certainly there are wars and "rumors of wars" and nations have risen against nation;kingdoms have risen again kingdoms. We have seen "earthquakes in various places" in recent days. Matthew 24:6-7 While these are all "speculative," and by far not all that we could look at as we compare these to the "days of Noah": When Krakatoa erupted, not only was the explosion heard about 2,000 miles away, as the ash circum-navigated the globe, it caused the sun to be darkened and created other atmopsheric abnormalities. An atomic blast conceivably looks like the sky being rolled up like a scroll - and could be described as a shaking of the heavens. What did "scud missles" look like? "Stars falling from the sky?" Or might this also describe the increase of meteor showers and falling space debris we have witnessed? The Gospel was preached to all nations in the fall of 2001. Although we have had the technology to do so, there has never been an opportunity or reason for this until 9/11. If you will recall, Billy Graham presented the Gospel from the National Cathedral which was simultaneously translated and broadcast LIVE throughout the world. As for nations or kingdoms, too often we make these political entities, when in fact, they may be spiritually defined. We have overlooked the possibility of Islam as a conquering "nation." Could this be the rider on the white horse described in Rev 6:2? However, in light of all our suffering in this present life, the Lord comforts us with these words:(v.6) " . . . see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come." The "trouble" of these days will be insignificant when compared to the great outpouring of God's wrath upon the earth during what the Bible calls the "Great Tribulation." (Rev 7:14; 16:1) "For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Thess 5:9 "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!" Romans 5:8-9 In between the "tribulation" that Jesus says believers will have, and the "great tribulation," as described in Revelation, is the "rapture of the church." "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words." 1 Thess 4:16-18 God's Word assures us that we will be saved from His wrath! Our redemption will take place PRE-WRATH. How should we be be living in these days? Do we really believe that Jesus is coming SOON? He has given us His Signs - keep looking up! Mommapbs |

414 | what is does Jesus mean in matt 7:6? | Matthew | Mommapbs | 39398
7:6 Do not give what is holy to dogs or throw your pearls before pigs; otherwise they will trample them under their feet and turn around and tear you to pieces. Greetings H2O! Since this verse is preceded by some admontions about personal introspection and judging correctly, I think that we must use the sensitivity to the Holy Spirit's leading in all we say and do. When we take it upon ourselves to correct or even instruct without His empowerment, we are not heeding verse 6! God gives His children the "treasure of Jesus." We must be careful how we handle this! Someone who is openly hostile to the Gospel of Jesus Christ could be a poor recipient of what God has entrusted to us. I believe that we must wait upon the Holy Spirit to open the door of opportunity to minister unto such folks. Remember, we can accomplish nothing on our own (John 15:4). I believe this can be extended to our giving materially as well! As a believer in Jesus, I could not support certain organizations that are "anti-Christ!" Blessings, Mommapbs |

416 | Why believe in the physical Ressurection | Matthew | Mommapbs | 109227
Greetings! See 1 Cor 15:17. You wrote: "I can't argue certain points when I know the bible does not agree with itself in some pretty critical places. Namely, the resurrection account of the four authors of the Bible." The account is NOT the issue, the fact that Jesus was raised is. If you asked four different people to describe the same event, do you think that they would all see it the same way? Does their description of the event change the fact that this event took place? In the same way, the Gospel accounts record that the resurrection of Jesus took place. mommapbs |

418 | Love God or Fear God? | Matt 1:21 | Mommapbs | 104661
Greetings! Ponder these Scriptures: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Prov 9:10 What is "the knowledge of the Holy One"? As we contemplate Jesus, who He is and what He did we see the love of God - we KNOW Him and the power of His ressurrection (Phi 3:10) which gives us not only hope but confidence to stand before God as worthy, because Jesus makes us so! What love! The absence of faith is fear, therefore, the fear here is a different sort. I see it as a reverence for who God is, an apprehension of His holiness as well as His great love for us. Allow this to overwhelm you! "So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;" Phil 2:12 "We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. We love, because He first loved us." 1 John 4:16-19 How do you respond? Out of duty or obligation or out of a desire to worship and return the love of God for you as He enables . . . I think most of us have learned to love the Lord as we grow in our faith and knowledge of Him. Perhaps we are so overcome by our sinfulness, and recognize that we rightly deserve punishment that we have a bit of trouble receiving the forgiveness of God in Christ. But as we continue to walk with the Lord, we find that His heart is merciful, compassionate and full of unconditional love. Truly, meditation on the love of God which is IN CHRIST, does indeed cast out any fear we have of judgement or punishment. As we respond to HIS qualities, allowing our spirits to be conformed to the image of Jesus, we too will reflect the love of God - toward ourself and others. Your questions are good and worth reflecting upon. May the Lord encourage your heart to trust and respond to Him in love, mommapbs |

419 | Jesus in the flesh | Matt 1:23 | Mommapbs | 132851
Greetings Noveta - yes, it means what is says, God came in human form. The Divinity of Jesus Christ is the issue here. Jesus tells us "I and the Father ae One' John 10:30. He also declared, "Before Abraham was born, I AM." John 8:58. Other religions do not deny that that Jesus existed. But only Biblical Christianity tells the TRUTH of who He IS, not was but IS. We love and serve a LIVING Savior! So, all those "religions" that claim Jesus was a good man or a prophet or a son of God, deny that He is who HE says He IS - GOD. From your profile you stated "There is not much else to my life" May God show you that there is MUCH to your life with Him. Jesus said,"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." John 10:10 This means right here and NOW, not when you die! I suspect you've been "robbed" for too long! I urge you to "Delight yourself in the Lord!" (Ps 37:4) Blessings, mommapbs |

420 | Jesus in the flesh..what does this mean | Matt 1:23 | Mommapbs | 132865
Noveta - See Phil 2:5-11. God did indeed come in human form! Should we believe what other people say about God or what God says about Himself? Jesus DID make a point to declare His Divinity so yes, we should stand firm in and for the TRUTH. See Mt 16:13-16 Jesus asks, "Who do people say that I am?" And then He goes on to ask, "But who do you say that I am?" We read that God gave Peter understanding to answer this question correctly. So likewise He gives us the knowledge of who HE is! God's Word reveals and by the Spirit we understand. Those without the Spirit do not understand. "But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised." 1 Cor 2:14 Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. The Scriptures I gave to you speak for themselves . . . if the individual reads these words and choses not to believe what they say to him, then there is nothing more to do but to pray that God will open his ears and eyes to hear and see the TRUTH of who God is - Jesus. With prayer for you and yours, mommapbs |
