142 | The origin of the word "Gentiles"? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 86845
From onelook.com: A Gentile refers to a non-Jew; it is a word of Latin origin. Christian translators of the Bible use this word to collectively designate the peoples and nations distinct from the Jewish people.

Greetings! for an explanation of this passage check out www.revelationcommentary.org (go to Chapter 7) What I found interesting is that this angel is just the speaker for a larger number who have been sealing those in Israel as designated by God. mommpabs |

144 | People who died BC went where? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 86982
Sheol(OT) - the place of the departed. See Luke 16:19-26 for a description that Jesus gave. Sheol, or Hades is divided into two parts: torments and Abrahams' bosom. In the OT, those who "believed God" were declared righteous. Rom 4:3 Recall also the words of Jesus to the believing thief on the cross, "Today you will be with me in Paradise." Lk 23:43 I suspect that perhaps Jesus did not use the words "Abraham's bosom" because He was going to be there, and where God is, is that not Paradise?!!! Blessings, mommapbs |

145 | Attitudes or Beattitudes?? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 87104
Greetings TheCurtMan! I understand your angst with the dischordant "tone" often "heard" on this Forum - yet with regard to the verse you have quoted . . . a peacemaker is one who shares Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. I believe that we should strive for unity in Him rather than looking for basically denominational differences on doctrine to separate us. The devil dances to our dischordant melody. Blessings, mommapbs Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Eph 4:3 |

149 | Number of plagues and time lasted? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 87323
Greetings!Although the Bible lists several different plagues, the most familiar are found in Exodus where the Lord struck the Egyptians because of Pharaoh's hardness of heart - this was to demonstrate HIS power which ultimately resulted in freedom for Israel - what a lesson we all can learn here too! Anyway, type in the word plague in the quick search field. My favorite is found In 1 Sam 5:9 where the Lord struck the Philistines with tumors (which, according to a Hebrew lexicon I counsulted, is the equivalent to the affliction of hemorroids - OUCH!) In Exodus, the 10 plagues are: blood, frogs, gnats, flies, livestock, boils, hail, locusts, darkness and the death of the firstborn. See post 87320 for the time intervals I attempted to put together, again, type in this number in the quick search field. God bless, mommapbs |

150 | Jesus says I AM | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 87882
Greetings Sven - I urge you to search out the Scriptures and see if what you have been told by gnm in his recent posts is true. What I am reading is that he does not believe that Jesus is GOD - he sees Jesus as a created being -coequal with Adam. This is heresy. When Moses asked God for His Name, He delcared, "I AM." Jesus has the same Name. Adam does not. May the Spirit of Truth guide your thoughts and mind as you seek Him! mommapbs |

151 | Two witnesses of Revelation - prophets? | OT general | Mommapbs | 38191
Greetings! I have read the posts on this verse and have a further observationfor you to consider. I hope this won't fall into the "ridiculous category" as some have suggested of others ideas! For reasons I have posted before, I believe that Enoch and Elijah could very well be the two witnesses of Revelation 11. After some further reading in Romans I'm wondering if this fits in . . . It seems to me that Enoch and Elijah, translated as they were into heaven, may match this description: "These are the two anointed ones who are standing by the Lord of the whole earth." Zech 4:14. The two witnesses of Revelation 11 are described as olive trees. In Romans 11:24 we also read about two olive trees. One was a wild olive tree and the other was a cultivated one. The wild olive tree represented the Gentiles and the cultivated olive tree represented the Jews. If the two witneses in Revelation are described as olive trees, and since both Gentiles and Jews bear witness to Jesus, could these also be a representative of each people: Enoch representing the Gentiles and Elijah representing the Jews? Just something to think about! Blessings Mommapbs |

152 | The chapter and verse | OT general | Mommapbs | 50905
Matthew 11:3 - John the Baptist asked if Jesus was the Messiah. Recall when Jesus calmed the storm his disciples wondered, "Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?" Luke 8:25 Jesus asked His disciples who men said He was and when He asked them who they thought He was, Peter was the disciple who declared, "You are the Christ." See Matthew 16:13-20 Jesus knew who he was even at an early age when his parents found him in the temple! Luke 2:49 Jesus said, "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me." John 6:38 During His adult ministry Jesus said: "All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." matthew 11:27 Jesus' message was "Repent, for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand!" Matthew 4:17 God's will is to restore the Kingdom - to reconcile sinful man and bring him once again into a loving, intimate relationship with his Creator. John14:6 - Jesus is the Way. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." John 14:6 Hope these verses help! Blessings, Mommapbs |

153 | To learn the truth | OT general | Mommapbs | 72341
Aside from what has already been posted I would like add the following: Muslims worship god and allah is his name. Christ-followers worship God and Jesus is His Name! Muslims worship a god who asks them to die for him. But Christ-followers worship THE God who died for THEM! (Romans 5:1-21) The Koran is no different from the Book or Morman or any other teaching that is contrary to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God's Word issues a stern warning against receiving any other gospel as Paul records in Galatians 1:6-9 "I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!" Revelation 22:18-19 elaborates on the consequences of adding to or taking away from God's Word. The spirit of antichrist is alive and well - which of course is the operating power in any other gospel other than that of Jesus Christ! I hope this gives you something to consider as you search for the Truth. Jer 29:13 mommapbs |

156 | why did Moses write Genesis? | OT general | Mommapbs | 84562
Greetings jbw! I am so thankful that we have God's written Word! I could never remember all the Truths contained therein! In my opinion, the record of God's relationship with man was and still is oral - meaning that we confess with our mouth that the Lord He is God, we tell of His excellent greatness, His all sufficient Grace and everlasting love. If you study the early genealogies, you will find that there are only a couple of generations between Adam and Noah - so not much would be omitted in an oral account of the Creation and man's Fall. Yet, how effective was this oral record? The wickedness of man increased upon the earth . . . hence THE FLOOD! Do remember that the purpose of God's Word is to reveal Himself, His love for us and our need for Him! After the Flood and the confusion of the languages at Babel, it seems prudent to assume that more attention would be given to a written record as this would surpass the oral method and ensure a more accurate transmission of history. However, man's perceptions of historical fact are always skewed by the recorder; they can not be compared to God's Authorship! Yet, who God chooses to record His Truth is up to Him! Moses was His chosen instrument as were many others from all walks of life. Don't forget that we, who are in Christ, have also been chosen to be vessels of His Truth. We are HIS witnesses. I hope that this helps. mommapbs |

Greetings Edie - your request for more information has resulted in Tara1 disclosing his/her "theology". For this I thank you. As far as Searcher's response to your further quest for more resources, I can understand how you might "assume" that he was a bit abrupt or curt. However, since it appeared that Tara1 had given you an answer to your original post, anyone would be a bit confused as to why you asked for more resources. Please cut Searcher some slack, he has been a long time Forum member with many fine posts to his credit. I hope you will come to appreciate him as others do. Blessings, mommapbs |

PFrance - God's Word records and reveals human nature through individuals that enable us to recognize our need for Him.
