642 | What is the question/note refering to? | Luke 2:4 | Mommapbs | 70797
Thomi - Bethlehem is called the "house of bread." Emmaus is referring to the birth of Christ. Jesus, the gift of God, born in Bethlem, is also called the Bread of Life. See John 6:33-51 mommapbs |

Greetings JA03! From one who is most often in the position of "offending," I'd like to offer a response. Your question is pretty vague, but I suspect that you are questioning the way that we are to be reconciled to one another when a breach of trust has been made. It does not matter who made the rules, but if an offense has occurred, then it is up to the offender to be reconciled to the one offended. (Matthew 5:23-24)Sometimes, this is clear cut and pretty easy to see but . . . See Matthew 18:15-22- At times, the offender may not even know that he/she has offended someone else. In this case, the offended person has the reponsibility to make the offense known to the offender, not for humiliation or shame, but in order to bring about a reconciliation or restoration of the relationship. This of course necessitates the offer of forgiveness from the offended. Generally, when one becomes aware of an offense, the response is one of remorse and repentance. However, even if the one who offends does not apologize, it is always right to forgive. When we don't forgive as God in Christ forgave us, we offend HIM!(Hebrews 12:14-15; Eph 4:26-27; Eph 4:32) I hope this helps. Blessings, mommapbs |

644 | What is "spiritual pride"? | Prov 16:18 | Mommapbs | 69031
Greetings! Good question and Hank gave you an excellent answer! I'd like to add something else for you to consider. This is what God says we should boast about: . . .but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD. Jer 9:24 Might this be the ONLY form of pride that God approves of? But, can we ever really boast that we fully know and understand God? The more I come to know Him, the less I know - I know! (See Isa 55:8-9) I suspect that knowing who we are in Christ is the only thing we can "be proud of" and at that, we are proud of HIM who gave Himself for us! Just some thoughts. mommapbs |

645 | Is God obliged by the prayer of faith? | Rom 8:28 | Mommapbs | 68431
Psalm 143:1 says, "Hear my prayer, O LORD, Give ear to my supplications! Answer me in Your faithfulness, in Your righteousness!" This is an interesting concept to consider: God answers our prayers because of HIS faithfulness and righteousness, not because of anything we have done to deserve an answer. Just musing . . . . mommapbs |

646 | Eph 4:26 | Matt 18:15 | Mommapbs | 68406
Greetings LifelineProd! I will assume that the matter of concern to you is with another believer. We should always seek unity, not division and esteem others above ourselves Read Mt 18:15-17. Sin obviously separates us from communion with God and others as well. This is wise counsel for BELIEVERS as God desires unity in the body of Christ. Please read Ephesians 4. After reading His Word, ask God to direct your steps in this matter. Now reread these passages and wait for God to answer you! May His desire be your desire. Blessings, mommapbs |

647 | Can dead spirits be contacted? | 1 Samuel | Mommapbs | 68403
See 1 Sam 28 and read the account of Saul with the witch of Endor. God forbids this practice (Deut 18:10) and you would be wise to heed His counsel. The one who seeks a medium is just as guilty as the medium. Why would God tell us not to do something if it wasn't possible? WHO one is speaking to is another matter. In this instance, God obviously allowed Samuel (as His prophet) to communicate with Saul. But as a matter of course, seeking counsel from anyone other than the Lord is wrong. I hope this helps. When you know what GOD's Word says on a subject, you are accountable for that knowledge. Be sure, be very sure WHO you are following! Blessings, mommapbs |

648 | Are drugs wrong? | 1 Cor 6:19 | Mommapbs | 68400
Greetings Hill - welcome to the Forum. Use the quick search feature at the top right of your screen. Input the words: drugs alcohol and you will find some discussions on these topics. Bottom line it this, drug use usually signals a dependency problem. When we we depend upon anything or anyone other than God, it is idolatry. Does "thou shalt have no other gods before me" sound familiar?!!! See 1 Cor 10:1-14; Col 3:5. No matter what, YOU can set the example, but you can not force others to follow it. Non believers will not respond to God's Word, because it is spiritually understood. (1 Cor 2)Those without the Spirit of Christ can not comprehend the Truth of God in this verse (1 Cor 6:19) May God strenghten you in your relationships with others to remain steadfast in Him. Phil 4:13 Blessings, mommpabs |

649 | Help with bad dreams | Job 7:14 | Mommapbs | 68394
Greetings Yehoshua and welcome to the Forum. I can't ascertain if these are "spiritual attacks," but I can speak from my own experience. It does not matter what the dream is, but how you respond to it! You are doing the right thing - praying about it. (Be sure you ask GOD for the advice though!) A while back I had a very disturbing dream. It was vivid and actually woke me up. I went to the Lord in prayer about it and when I did not have any peace, I called my prayer partner to come over and pray with me. When I told her of the content of the dream, I think she was just as terrified as I was. So we went before the Lord and asked Him to reveal the meaning. As we were praying, God opened my mind to understand the dream - I had immediate comfort and peace. On the other hand, I had another disturbing dream that God has SLOWLY revealed its meaning to me. He reminds me of this dream periodically and more and more pieces of the puzzle come together. I am confident that one day, I will have the complete picture of what the Lord is trying to teach me . . . Bottom line is this - We have no control over our dreams but God is sovereign - He knows all about what we are experiencing. The only thing we have control over is HOW we respond to these troubling circumstances in our lives. Keep seeking God in this and trust Him to reveal Himself to you through this experience. Don't limit God, a "bad" dream can certainly bring about good. (God!) Blessings, mommapbs |

650 | insight into discipleship principles | Prov 20:5 | Mommapbs | 68290
Greetings! You have asked a lot of questions for one post! I'm wondering about a connection to Jesus' command and this Proverb. Something to think about. What I'd like to address is your differentiation between Peter and Simon. I see no reason to suggest that our behavior prompts God to call us anything other than who we are in Christ: an adopted son/daughter; a joint hier with Christ, beloved of the Father, etc. Yes, we are new creations in Jesus, (Gal 6:5; 2 Cor 5:17)yet we still have the old sin nature living within. (Rom 7) But since we are forgiven and our sins are removed from us as far as the east is from the west (Ps 103:12)why would God ever remind us of who were were without Him? Just wondering . . . mommapbs |

651 | What is good and evil in a thing? | Rom 7:18 | Mommapbs | 68153
Cong: Mark 10:18 says, "only God is good." We would be wise to recognize that evil is not the opposite equal of God! Nothing is equal to Him! James 1:17 tells us that God alone is the giver of good gifts Therefore, we can reason the Jesus, being God, is the ONLY GOOD GIFT (thing). As we look at things in general, couldn't we say that anything that is NOT of God is evil? I think we struggle a bit here as there is a prevalent world view of man that says "man is basically good." However, God's Word tells us that no good thing dwells in us! Read on in Romans 7. Who can rescue us from this condition? Only God! And that's the Good News! (Romans 5:8) Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Cor 9:15. mommapbs PS: To determine if something is OF GOD, how does it stack up with this admonition? "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." Phil 4:8 |

652 | Eternal Kingdom of Heaven on Earth | Rev 21:1 | Mommapbs | 68145

653 | Bible ref."a thorn in the wilderness" | Judg 8:7 | Mommapbs | 68143
Greetings Cong - welcome to the Forum. You can use the search feature for the words you are looking for! I found Judges 8:7 and 16 have two references to thorns in the wilderness. In this passage they are used as instruments of discipline. Read the account of Gideon. I don't know if we can compare Johnny Cash to this partiarch, but certainly we can apply the truth of God's Word to our own circumstances. Sometimes God uses people and sometimes He uses things as instruments of correction for us too. However, if God gives us an assignment to correct or discipline another believer, it is imperative that we seek God's guidance in the matter, otherwise we are in danger of ignoring the beam in our own eye (See Mt 7:3) Paul instructs us: "Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted." Gal 6:1 Blessings on your day! mommapbs |

654 | Eccl. 9:2-10 | Luke 23:43 | Mommapbs | 67901
Greetings nimrod2. Sheol was the fate of all people prior to the ressurection of Jesus Christ. Please read the account of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-26. Jesus clearly indicates that Sheol, the place of the physically departed has two sides: torments and Abraham's bosom which would indeed be paradise when Jesus entered! Eternity is a sure thing for everyone. We have the option of where to spend it! Rev 20:10 tells us of one option: "the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. And Rev 20:15 says "if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire." But to those who have chosen Christ, eternal life WITH God is awaiting . . . Choose wisely. I hope this clears up any confusion for you! mommapbs |

655 | Relationship between Elizabeth and Mary | Luke 1:36 | Mommapbs | 67846
Greetings Malspa! Although this verse is not specific about their relationship, I suspect that Elizabeth was an older cousin or an aunt to Mary. Since she was described as old and barren, we might conclude that Elizabeth was more a contemporary to Mary's parents. I find it interesting that Mary went to stay with Elizabeth after she heard the angel's news! Since the angel told her about Elizabeth's pregnancy, do you think that God knew that Mary might have had some niggling doubts about her visitation and that by "checking out" the angel's announcement, Mary would be encouraged in her faith? I suspect that Mary believed but that she also needed some confirmation, and the angel gave her the means to receive it. I believe that God continues to do this for us and our weak faith today! I find great encouragement in this, for indeed, God knows our frame, He remembers that we are but dust dollies(Ps 103:14). Blessings on your day! mommapbs |

658 | How did James know about Forest Fires | James 3:5 | Mommapbs | 67689
Greetings dweaver! This is the verse you are asking about. James is using a physical object lesson to convey a point about the tongue, the instrument of speech. Perhaps today he might say, "just one spark of static electricity can ignite the fumes around a gas pump!" No one has to elaborate about the results of this either. I have never been to Israel, but certainly James was familiar with forests - anyway, Jesus was a carpenter! Man is not required to start a forest fire; combine combustables in a dry climate and a lightening strike and the result will be fire! I like this chapter - it is very sobering and challenging. We should all pay close attention to James' words of wisdom! It has been said "the pen is mightier than the sword." This is because words are powerful - they can wound or heal. Sadly, as James notes in verse 8, most often the tongue is full of deadly poison! How often do we say things and then regret what we have uttered? Yet once spoken, words cannot be taken back. All too often they are LONG remembered, doing even greater damage in the mind's memory than when they were first issued. Just like a spark can set a whole forest ablaze, a word carelessly spoken can bring wounds and destruction to those who hear them. Thankfully, we have the Living Word, Jesus, who is more than able to bind up the hurts we inflict upon each other with our words. Our words are powerful, but they are NOT ALL powerful! Blessings to you! mommapbs PS What do you think might be an effective "fire" extinguisher? see verses 17-18. |

659 | god owes us salvation by our works? | Titus 3:5 | Mommapbs | 67314
Greetings CMOORE:If you are a Muslim, this is sound theology for the Quran demands that followers of allah be willing to die for him. But for the Christ follower, our God died for us! God's Word says, "God demonstrated His love for us in this: while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us!" (Romans 5:8) See Titus 3:4-8 and Ephesians 2:8-10. Both of these passages show that salvation is NOT EARNED but instead, it is a free gift of God to those who believe - the works or the deeds that follow, also belong to God as He works through us to accomplish His good and perfect will. mommapbs PS: How about sharing MOORE about yourself with the Forum and fill out the personal profile section! |

660 | Why did Jesus weep or what was the occas | John 11:35 | Mommapbs | 66262
Greetings! Just this evening the Lord reminded me of this verse and I wondered if there might be something more that our Lord was responding to . . . and yes, I agree with owade's response to you. But perhaps Jesus wept at things we cannot see. In verses 33 and 38 we are told that Jesus was "deeply moved" or disturbed (in spirit). What does Jesus see that we cannot? The hearts of men! Perhaps he saw hearts of those around Him, as people without hope. And there He, the Hope of the world, stood in their midst and they could not see Him. Perhaps He was grieved at the lack of faith, the rejection and rebellion that was on display just for Him at that time. Lastly, note what Jesus told the people to do when Lazarus came out of the tomb. (John 11:44)He was wrapped in the grave clothes; they bound him while he was in the tomb. Jesus remarked that he came to set the captives free. (Luke 4:18) And he does free us from death (represented by the tomb) but He also frees us from the bonds of the Law (self effort). We are no longer slaves to the law but followers of Jesus by the Spirit.(Romans 7:4-6) When we encourage others to live by Christ alone (Jesus reminds us "Apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5)we loose the grave clothes and set them free to enjoy the liberty that is pour in Christ. See 2 Cor 3:17. In Galatians, we are told to avoid becoming enslaved by the Law (self effort or performance Christianity) - see Gal 2:16 through Gal 3:5 Perhaps Jesus wept because He saw people, who were rescued from death, still bound in grave clothes. This was just something He gave me to think about this evening and I thought I'd share it with you since you posted the original question! Blessings in Him, mommapbs |
