621 | Searching for the truth | Is 29:13 | Mommapbs | 72410
Greetings FyRobert. Please tell the Forum a little about yourself by completing the personal profile section!(click on "Update User Info." under the Resources Index on the lower left of your screen) When you look at a specific verse, you must remember to read it in context. In the passage you are referencing, Jesus was referring to people who rejected Him. These folks have no reason to praise Him, for they do not honor Him in their hearts. Do a word search "praise the Lord" and you will see that this is how God's people respond to His love, mercy and grace! "From the rising of the sun to its setting The name of the LORD is to be praised." Psalm 113:3 Praise is a command, not a suggestion. We show our love for God by being obedient to His Word,(John 14:15) yet bear in mind that God examines our hearts; (Jer 12:3) He knows if our love for Him is genuine or pretense! Singing is one way, of many, that believers worship and praise the Lord. See also Luke 19:37-40. mommapbs |

622 | To learn the truth | OT general | Mommapbs | 72341
Aside from what has already been posted I would like add the following: Muslims worship god and allah is his name. Christ-followers worship God and Jesus is His Name! Muslims worship a god who asks them to die for him. But Christ-followers worship THE God who died for THEM! (Romans 5:1-21) The Koran is no different from the Book or Morman or any other teaching that is contrary to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God's Word issues a stern warning against receiving any other gospel as Paul records in Galatians 1:6-9 "I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!" Revelation 22:18-19 elaborates on the consequences of adding to or taking away from God's Word. The spirit of antichrist is alive and well - which of course is the operating power in any other gospel other than that of Jesus Christ! I hope this gives you something to consider as you search for the Truth. Jer 29:13 mommapbs |

623 | Why did Jehoshaphat disregard prophet? | 1 Kin 22:1 | Mommapbs | 72301
Greetings wannaknow and welcome to the Forum! This is an interesting passage. Note that Jehoshaphat desired a Word from the Lord about whether to go and fight against the king of Aram, the outcome was not the determining factor - THAT Jehoshaphat entrusted to God! verse 15 says, "Go up and succeed, and the LORD will give it into the hand of the king." Recall that the prophet of the Lord was entreated to speak in one accord with the other prophets.(v13) And he did this in a very clever way. His pronouncement had a conditional overtone to it which might be interpreted thus: "Go up and IF you succeed, the Lord will give it into the hand of the king." By this rendering, the prophet seemed to agree with the others but he did not predict success. I suspect that Ahab also smelled a ploy here as he demanded to be told the truth. The prophecy of the Lord (v 17) concerned Ahab, king of Israel, not Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. Why did Jehoshphat go into battle with Ahab? Note that the prophet of the Lord did NOT tell him NOT to go. He had purposed this in his heart and sought to inquire of God if this was in accordance with HIS will. Good lesson here! There is a way that "seems" right, but unless God is directing our steps, we will be on the wrong path.(Prov 12:15; Prov 14:12; Pro 16:9; Prov 3:5-6) Remember that even if we suffer along the way, it does not mean that we are on the wrong road! Jesus said, in this life you will have "trouble!" (John 16:33) A caveat for you to consider: Always seek the Lord yourself first. Godly counsel should affirm what God is telling you through His Word, through prayer, circumstances and His Holy Spirit. When everything is in unison, you can more ahead with the confidence that God is leading the way for you. I hope this helps! mommapbs |

624 | Wanting more clarity | 1 Cor 3:16 | Mommapbs | 72299
You asked: "why all the trouble in distinguishing the members of the triune God?" Why do you see this as "trouble?" I suspect that God desires us to worship His complete nature and that is why He reveals Himself as different members of the Trinity in Scripture. I also suspect that "on our own," we would worship God compartmentally and not in the fullness of His Being. I have copied here an excellent post by kalos, whom I respect, on this Forum. Kalos writes, "Basically the Trinity is one What (God) and three Who's (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Can the Trinity be explained? Not by me. I never try to explain that which cannot be explained. However, I'll do my best to simplify the definition of the doctrine. I make no attempt to explain the Trinity, only to define it. "V. THE TRINITY . . . "A. Definition. There is only one God, but in the unity of the Godhead there are three eternal and coequal Persons, the same in substance but distinct in subsistence. . . . "Proof. 1. O.T. intimations. The O.T. does not reveal the Trinity but it allows for the later revelation of it." See Gen. 1:1, 26; Isa. 6:8; Gen 22:11, 15-16. . . . "2. N.T. confirmation. In the N.T. there is clear revelation that Father, Son, and Spirit are God; thus a Triunity or Trinity (neither is a biblical word)." See John 6:27; Eph 4:6; Heb 1:8; Acts 5:3-4. These Scriptures indicate that the Father is God, Jesus Christ is God, and the Spirit is God. One God -- three persons. "The three Persons are associated equally and as one (Matt 28:19; "name"; 2 Cor 13:14)." For further study do a "Quick Search" on the word "trinity" or "triune" I hope this helps. mommapbs |

625 | How old was Mary at Christs birth? | Luke 1:27 | Mommapbs | 72275
Greetings wll and welcome to the Forum. Scripture does not address the age of Mary. But if we look at historical marriages of her time, it seems prudent to conclude that she was a young teenager at the time of her engagment to Joseph. mommapbs |

627 | Is it accurate to say that God dwells in | 1 Cor 3:16 | Mommapbs | 72256
Greetings and welcome to the Forum. When posting it would help those who might respond if you would include a Scripture connected to your question. I have included two references for you to consider. We are called the "temple" of God in 1 Cor 3:16. Collectively and individually the presence of God, by His Spirit, dwells within the believer. It is He who makes, equips and enables us for every good work.(Eph 2:10) "However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him." Romans 8:9 In this verse, do you see a difference between the Spirit, the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ? They are the same; what is different here? mommapbs |

628 | Who wrote Luke? What generation is Mary? | Luke 3:23 | Mommapbs | 72024
The Gospel of Luke was written by Luke, a Gentile physician, historian and author who also wrote the book of Acts. Matthew was written by Levi, also known as Matthew. He was the tax collector called by Jesus to become one of His disciples. The Gospel of John and the three epistles of John were written by the disciple John. Matthew gives the genealogy of Joseph and Luke gives the genealogy of Mary. |

630 | How do we respond to our daughter living | 1 Cor 5:11 | Mommapbs | 72005
Greetings - I too have had similar experiences with our children so I feel your pain at this time. For me, I came to see this as a glimspe that God gave for me to understand the grief that penetrates His heart when each of us sin. I caution you to walk very carefully as you love the sinner and hate the sin. It is all too easy to fall into the trap of legalism or performance Christianity when we "judge". God's Word offers specific directions to "correct" one another in love. (See Matthew 18) However, the application of measures as spelled out here should be the last resort and not undertaken hastily or without Godly counsel from one who is familiar with your family and the measures that you have already put into place. As far as the influence of your daughter's lifestyle upon your other children is concerned, if you have taught them right from wrong, they will recognize your daughter's behavior for what it is - sin. Bear in mind the words of Jesus to the crowd around the woman caught in adultery - "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." John 8:7 I encourage you to re-read the account of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15. The father let the wayward boy go. Note that he didn't run after or rescue him in his waywardness, but as soon as he saw him return, then he ran out to meet and welcome him home. We cannot "make" out children or anyone else walk with the Lord. We can show them the way, but then the choice of following is their own. (And yes, the consequences of that choice belongs to them as well!) I KNOW that this is a hard pill to swallow, but I can offer you some encouragement and hope in your situation. When Mary exclaimed, "All things are possible with God," she realized that her obedience to His plan was necessary. Likewise in parenting, there are times in our children's lives when our obedience requires that WE get out of the way. When we do this, we recognize the sovereignty and sufficiency of God as the Perfect Parent. Don't preach; let your life reflect what you know about the love of God. And if you need a reminder of how great it it, check out Romans 5:8. This applies to your daughter as well as all of us! I'll join you in prayer about this. I urge you to ask of God and listen for His direction before you lift any scripture and try to apply it to your situation on your own. Blessings, mommapbs PS: James Dobson's "Love Must Be Tough" is a book that, although written for troubled marriages, might be worth looking at for some guidance in your relationship and counselling of your daughter. |

631 | His Yoke? | Matt 11:29 | Mommapbs | 71999
Greetings always4him! As I read this verse, I see a wonderful word picture emerge. A yoke is an instrument used to connect two individuals(usually a pair of oxen or draft horses). Jesus is the yoke to connect us with the Father. The yoke of Jesus is His atoning and substitutionary death for us! All we have to do is accept it! "Take My yoke upon you . . .YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS." See also Heb 4:3 Blessings, mommmapbs |

632 | Are we not judged by how we vote? | 2 John 1:11 | Mommapbs | 71794
Greeetings Jim, welcome to the Forum. As Christ followers, we must be careful to honor and submit to those in authority over us,being ever mindful of the Supreme authority to Whom we must all give an account. It is difficult for me to vote for an individual who does not share my personal convictions about the abortion issue, and as a believer, I choose not to vote for "pro-choice" individuals. However, if God places them in authority over me, God's Word is quite clear that I must submit to their "rule." Although abortion is legally permissible, it is not God-honoring, and thankfully in this country, no one can make a woman undergo this elective procedure. I believe that we have an obligation to give everyone a reason for the hope that is with in us as Christ followers,(1 Peter 3:15) and one way to do this is in the voting booth. Sadly, Bible believing Christians are in the minority and the majority rules! However . . . Regardless of human failings or flawed voting methods, truth does and will prevail. God casts the final ballot; it is His one that counts, for God’s sanction alone gives authority to those that rule over us! Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. God has established the authorities that exist. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. Romans 13:1-2 Even if we don't like the man chosen to lead our country, we need not blame those who voted or counted the votes. God’s Word assures us that this is the man to whom the Lord has given the authority to govern. This is a sobering and awesome responsibility for those who are charged with leadership; for with authority comes accountability. Our leaders, as well as those they lead will have to answer for the choices they have made the One who empowers us all! Thankfully, in God’s Kingdom there will be no pregnant or hanging chads, indents or dimples to consider. (There will be no manual recount either!) For God is the judge; and only He knows the intentions of our hearts! In heaven there will be no Republicans, Democrats, Conservatives, or Independents. There will be no denominational monikers for us to identify with either! Only those who have chosen Jesus will be there. So until then, the invitation is still open to cast your ballot: "choose this day WHO you will serve." Joshua 24:15 And this, my friend is the only vote that really counts! The secret to living in a society that does not honor God's laws is to love and pray for our leaders and those in authority over us! (Mt 5:44 et al) mommapbs |

633 | Man or man? | John 8:40 | Mommapbs | 71787
Greetings Ray! This is a tough one. At first glance I am inclined to say Man, for Jesus is the God-man. Without the distinction of caplitalization, would one be open to deny or question His divinity? Yet, by using "man" He clearly identifies with us and we can clearly see His sinlessness as an acceptable substitutionary sacrifice! Just some thoughts . . . Why does the Amplified capitalize Who? Blessings to you and yours! mommapbs |

634 | Is fish or seafood considered a meat? | Gen 9:3 | Mommapbs | 71785
Greetings! Living things are classified in kingdoms; the two primary ones are: animal and plant. Although both kingdoms are sources of protein, if the living thing is an aninmal it is a source of meat. Fish or other seafood are not plants, therefore we can conclude that they are "meat." mommapbs |

636 | Does Paul contradict Jesus? | John 6:70 | Mommapbs | 70975
Greetings Cheryl - The word "brother" is the key to understanding this seemingly contradictory verse. This references an individual who professes to be a believer in Jesus, however as Paul notes, the individual is living a life that is contrary to God's standands. I suspect that Paul assumes that the Lord's prescribed method for correction and discipline (Matthew 18) have already been carried out at this point, so he reaffirms Jesus' instructions. We are supposed to exercize discipline within the family of God. See Matthew 18:17 Just as Jesus welcomed sinners (we are ALL sinners - sin is sin; it has no degree in God's economy!), we are to welcome all those who would receive us (as bearers of the Good News)and those that don't, we are to shake the dust off our feet (Matthew 10:14. We are not to cast our pearls before swine(Matthew 7:6) Sin is toxic, people are not. I'm wondering, are you trying to avoid a relationship or someone in particular? Seems to me that you might need more help that this Forum can provide. I urge you to seek Godly counsel from someone (your Pastor or a Christian psychologist) who may be able to help you set appropriate boundaries in questionable relationships. Blessings, mommapbs PS: Henry Cloud has written an excellent book called "Boundaries" that may be of help to you. |

637 | why people afraid enter canaan? | Num 14:33 | Mommapbs | 70890
Greetings cmoore. You have asked a lot of questions and yet you have not supplied any information about yourself. I implore you, as justme has recently requested, to complete the personal profile so we can all "cmoore" about you! Read in Numbers 13 and 14 about the account of the spies, as we discussed last evening, and you will see that their fear of man was a reflection of their lack faith in God. They were judged accordingly. We can learn from the mistakes of the past and hopefully not repeat them. mommapbs |

CMOORE - There are prophecies about the birth of Christ and the accounts of His birth are recorded in the Gospels so I have no idea where you are trying to go with this question. God's Word warns that we are not to add or take away anything from it. (Rev 22:18-19)

See Numbers 13-14 Although they all could agree upon the beauty and fruitfulness of the land, they did not all have the same outlook on its possession. Seems to me that there is a lesson here . . . In the end, what we believe about God will determine our outlook and then some too.
