441 | Please explain Haggai 1:12, (Fear) | Eccl 12:13 | Mommapbs | 86635
Greetings! I suspect you are wondering why the Israelites were told to "fear God?" I was working on this answer this AM - sorry for the delay in answering. The word in the NSAB is reverence not fear, however, from my understanding, reverential trust is an accurate description of what this type of fear is. Most of the time fear is being afraid - to me it is evident of the absence or weakness of faith. We are told throughout Scripture to believe God and to NOT be afraid!. I like the rendering of Ecc 12:13 in the Amplified which I have copied here for you to consider: "All has been heard; the end of the matter is: Fear God [revere and worship Him, knowing that He is] and keep His commandments, for this is the whole of man [the full, original purpose of his creation, the object of God's providence, the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun] and the whole [duty] for every man" I hope this answers your question. mommapbs |

442 | Preaching from envy and strife? | Phil 1:15 | Mommapbs | 86584
Greetings! If you keep reading vv12-21, you see that those who preach in this manner do so out of selfish ambition - their motves are not pure - (Are you looking for God's hand or what is in it?) this is distressing to Paul, who is already physically oppressed. Yet, as he contemplates this and realizes that he is powerless to DO anything about it, God evidently comforted him with this observation (v18) and he rejoices because Christ is proclaimed. Note also that this "rejoicing" is the genesis of emotional deliverance for Paul (v19)From this passage I would suggest that when we choose to focus on Christ and rejoice in Him, when combinded with prayer and the activity of the Holy Spirit, God does a work in our hearts to deliver us from spiritual oppression. I'm sure that you have come across preachers or other folks who use the Gospel for selfish gain, perhaps we need to take a lesson from Paul in our sttitude toward them. Let's let God be the judge. Something to think about . . . mommapbs |

443 | How does the church respond to abuse? | Jer 5:31 | Mommapbs | 86510
Greetings - I am saddened by your experience yet rejoice with you for the healing of your spirit that has taken place. Your question about physical abuse within the community of faith is indeed serious, yet it stems from a larger issue - spiritual abuse. Thankfully, we have civil laws that we can turn to for protection and NO WOMAN should feel that this is NOT an option for her because God has established ALL authority! (Rom 13:1) Paul speaks about the authority we SHOULD find in the church,(2 Cor13:10) authority that is given by the Lord BUILDS up. However, in many churches today, this is not the case. (Jer 5:31) Bottom line is this, until the church deals with the abuse of their spiritual authority, situations like this will remain and possibly flourish. You took a stand and relied upon God - now as you look at the scars left by the past, what do you see, the wounding or the healing? I encourage you to keep your eyes on Jesus the author and finisher of our faith (Heb 12:2) - He will be your encouragement and will direct you in the way you should go. Do get a copy ot this book: "The Subtle Power of Spirtual Abuse" by Johnson and Vanvonderen May God bless you as you cling to and depend upon Him, mommapbs |

444 | Summary of Jousha to Ester | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 86506
Greetings nexgen - your posts sound more like homework assignments . . . Walk Through the Bible teaches Bible themes and you can find Bible themes in books at Amazon as well. Maybe someone on the Forum has a Bible dictionary of Bible themes they would be willing to share with you, but I do not. My feeling is that as you read God's Word, HE will reveal the "theme" that He wants you to know about HIMSELF! mommapbs PS: This is the way Josuha is spelled and an ester is an aromatic chemical substance, the book of the Bible is Esther. |

445 | Hunger and Thirst for righteousness | Rev 7:16 | Mommapbs | 86502
Greetings FTJ - Although you did not ask a specific question, I will give you my observations. God has given us a desire for Himself (He has set eternity in our heart Ecc 3:11)I believe that this is what Jesus meant when He stated that "those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be satisfied." Mt 5:6 Jesus is the righteousness of God - when we have Him, we are satisfied, because through His righteousness we are restored to a right relationship with God, which gives us identity and purpose. We have a foretaste of Heaven on earth as we seek our meaning through Jesus. In contrast, when we seek to have this need met elsewhere, we may be satisfied for the moment, but it is not lasting; the longing persists. God has given man a hunger and a thirst for Himself! Those who have not found their satisfaction or identity in Christ will go out into eternity with an unquenchable hunger and thirst that will burn forever! This ultimate separation from God is the "second death." (Rev 21:8) May God bless you as you contemplate His Word! mommapbs |

446 | Why can God can love the world, not us? | John 3:16 | Mommapbs | 86494
Greetings! God can "love the world" because God is absolutely Holy and unchageable. We, on the other hand are not! Recently, I was struck by a comment from Beth Moore. She said, "You become what your focus is." So, if we choose to "love the world", we will become like the world. This is in direct contrast to God's command to "be holy." (1 Peter 1:14-16) In order to do this, we must remain focused on Jesus (Heb 12:2)- to be conformed to HIS likeness. (Rom 8:29;12:2)Therefore, God's admonition to not love the world is for our protection and part of the process He uses to make us complete in Christ. mommapbs |

447 | How does this scripture fit your message | 1 Cor 15:1 | Mommapbs | 86407
Pastor Glenn - although this thread is "restricted" it popped up on my screen. Since it has been posted for "three days" and not answered, I will take the liberty of removing it from the "unanswered question" list. I suggested a passage to Radioman for consideration and I share it with you too. Jer 23:25-40. Praise God, there is only ONE Good News! (Gal 1:8)Thank you for your efforts! mommapbs |

450 | Pt.2 A Female Oversee | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 86355
Greetings! This has been posted for quite a while now . . . Please repost your QUESTION as it is well worth considering! "There are a number of biblical principles, as well as examples, indicating that a woman should not be an Overseer. Both Scripture and Tradition tends to point this out, so why isn't it being practiced today??" mommapbs PS: For what it's worth, my answer springs from Genesis 3:16 |

451 | 2 CORITHIANS 10 VS3-4-5 | Eph 6:13 | Mommapbs | 86269
Greetings! "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh," v3 Although we are physical beings, our struggle is not - it is spiritual. The battleground is our mind. Who and what we believe will determine our responses to what we experience in life. (As a man thinks in his heart, so is he! Pr 23:7) Our actions reflect what we believe, not what we know! Because there is a difference between knowing and believing, it is important for our minds to be conformed to the Truth, rather than to the deceptions of the evil one. As we come to know the Truth, we learn to recognize falsehood. But until we choose to believe the Truth, our actions will be subject to false thinking. These are the "fortressess" or stongholds that hold us captive and keep our behaviors from reflecting the Truth of God that is within us as believers. "for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses." v4 Because this is a spiritual battle, we need Divine power to demolish these anad the Lord has given us two offensive weapons to fight with - the Sword of the Spirit, His Word, and prayer. Note Eph 6:17-18 that both are empowered by the Spirit! This is an important passage and deserves much more than I have given here. 453 | T or F. Sola Scriptura (Scripture only) | Ps 119:105 | Mommapbs | 85870
Greetings Radioman! God spoke directly to me, and audibly. He directed me to His Word, to a specific passage. I read the passage but struggled believing what He was saying to me here because I was always taught that the only way God speaks is through His Word . . .yet I had heard His voice. And YES, I am willing to die for my claim. Believe what God says and seek confirmation when in doubt. This has been my experience. mommapbs PS: In order to have a teachable spirit one must not always believe what one thinks. |

454 | Jenhovah's withnesses church ? | John | Mommapbs | 85862
This was sent to my post by mistake - please consider what The CurtMan has to say! mommapbs Greetings!! I have spent much time studying about the Witnesses, The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, and discussing scripture with the Witnesses. Their beliefs are so far out in left field that you can not find them by radar!! They do not believe in the Trinty. They acknowledge that Jesus is a god, not the God of the Bible, but a god. If Father God is a God, and Jesus is a god, then that leaves alot of room for polytheism. They give more credit to the adversary being a person then the Holy Spirit. Plus they're exceptionally good at twisting scripture. Unless you are a very mature Christian on a completly unshakable foundation, I'd personally suggest that you stay clear of them. If you'd like to discuss their beliefs and compare it to what scripture actually says, I'm willing. I still have all my notes and other information including the New Worlds Translation Bible-an example of how a bible should not be translated; Reasion from the Scriptures, and much more. However; if you're already engaged in study time with them, I strongly suggest that you go out and purchase two books. The First book should be a Parrallel Bible which includes the NASB; the NIV; the King James or the New King James. The Parrallel bible lined up with the New Worlds Translation will really aid you in seeing the difference in perspective between the truth and the joke. Secondly I suggest 'Reasoning from the Scriptures with the Jehovah Witnesses', it's by a guy name Ron Rhodes. You will be in my prayers The CurtMan |

455 | Classes of angels | John 19:42 | Mommapbs | 85821
Ernest: sorry to be delayed in my response. I enjoyed Asis' posting to you. On restrictions: See Rev 12:10 - Lucifer, our accuser, has access to the throne room of God but not for long! It is MY opinion, that once he has been banished from God's Presence we, the Church, will be taken to Heaven to be with the Lord. This, and the restrictions placed upon Satan in his persecution of Job are a couple of instances I am aware of. Satan's power is limited BY GOD! Don't forget this! Recall that God allowed Peter to be "sifted" by Satan Lk 22:21; Paul suffered from the ministery of a messenger from Satan 2Cor 12:7 and believers are also handed over to Satan to be "shook up" too! 1 Tim 1:20 In MY opinion, God's sovereignty supports: if God wanted cherubim to minister on the earth, they would be there! The very fact that they guarded the way to the Tree of Life in Eden proves this point. As Asis pointed out in his excellent post, there are many different functions of the angelic host. Yet, they do not have the same love relationship that we enjoy with our Lord! (Angels long to look into these things . . . 1 Peter 1:12) We can not go beyond what is written, so whether or not cherubim are present "on earth" today is not directly revealed. (See Dt 29:29) Why anyone would "argue" over angels is beyond me! Once again, this kind of debate takes our focus off of Jesus. mommapbs |

456 | "goodnewsminister" where is your spirit | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 85817
Greetings Searcher - remember our dialog of a few days ago? the question the Lord asked of Jeremiah (and us) was "what will you do in the end?" I think that we have done all that we could . . . let's let the Lord sort it all out! I thought Radioman's post on "What is Christianity?" was an excellent observation to consider as we encounter those with whom our "doctrine" differs. Saw a good bumper sticker yesterday: Don't believe everything you think" Blessings, mommapbs |

459 | Jenhovah's withnesses church ? | John | Mommapbs | 85560
Greetings Figoyuen! NO. You will not find God, the God of the Bible, in this church. (By the way, they have their own bible written to support their own doctrine.) "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires," 2 Tim 4:3 From a previous post by Brent Douglass: The Watchtower Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) is heretical in its basic understanding of the nature of God -- particularly Jesus Christ, whose worship they remove and whom they equate with Michael the Archangel rather than God the Son. This deals with a basic belief core to any orthodox Christianity and disqualifies them as a Christian Church. Members may or may not be believers that have been misled or confused, but those who developed and promulgated these doctrines were and are false teachers. Any believer within such a church will be greatly hindered (at the very least) by fellowship and receptivity toward such heretical teaching. mommapbs |

See REv 2:7 for another reference. Re the angels of God - indeed they are ministering spirits to US - God's children. (Heb 1:13-14) Yet according to Daniel 10, their service can be interrupted. We must be mindful of the spiritual battle that rages in our midst.(Eph 6:12) I believe that it is important to keep our eyes on Jesus only, do not render worship to any created being. mommapbs |
