341 | Where are you now? | Ps 119:105 | Mommapbs | 103326
part 2 . . . As for re-engaging . . . I was asked to participate again (this is two years now) as a small group leader, and once again I was admonished not to prepare anything for the group. Well, the study was of a "book" about THE Book, and although I have found it to be excellent, it is NOT a substitute fore personal time IN God's Word - that is where HE will speak directly to you! So I have ignored the discouragement and have shared what God has placed on my heart to bring forth for these precious women. Just today, the passage that God impressed upon me was about the healing of the paralytic. In Mt 9:2 Jesus said, "Take courage, your sins have been forgiven" was so significant to me - for even if God allows a circumstance to remain in our lives HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT! During our prayer time, one of the women was burdened for her unbelieving cousin who is a QUADRAPLEGIC! And to top if off, the video portion of the "lesson" focused on the same healing (but the passage was from the Gospel of Luke!) The part of the message that stuck home with me was that the friends of the paralyzed man were persistent - they did not let a roof get in their way - they did not let discouragement keep them from their mission - through this I heard very clearly God "shouting" to me, "Don't give up!" - To which I wrote in response, "Thank you Lord!" Sidebar: I recalled that last week, I was meditating on Mt 3:3 "Prepare the way for the Lord, make His paths staight." Now, it is clear to me that I have put some pot holes and road blocks in His path! It has taken a while, but the Lord is indeed teaching and disciplining me! I am learning to be obedient to His Word, to change the way I THINK (this is the heart of repentence!)and act. At the conclusion of our discussion, one of the women asked if I was a teacher,(She had no idea what she was asking or the significance of her question!)to which I replied that teaching was one of my "gifts." After we were dismissed, another woman with whom I had worked in the past approached me and told me that God had given her a vision for a local group of women in the arts to form some sort of group and she wanted to include me! (And all this was AFTER I had briefly read your post to me exhorting me to RE-ENGAGE and be obedient!) The only part of your post that gives me a little angst is when you state that we should not spend so much time studying God's Word, but rather just obey it - well, meditating upon the Word is also obedience. My passion is for others to be so into God's Word that they desire to know Him and be able to discern what is His good and perfect will is and then yield themselves in obedience to it! Too many folks flock to this program and that trying to figure out what God wants it becomes their "to do" list - but the truth is that God wants us to just BE devoted to Him, yielded to His Spirit; allowing HIM to be at work in and through us. The elementary teachings of the faith - what it really means to BE, IN CHRIST - are so undertaught or emphasized. Yes, obedience is the key - and this is HOW we love God - we are to do what He says! 1 John 3:11. 16; 4:12,21; 5:1-4 and on and on! Thank you for your encouragement - you have been God's instrument of affirmation to me and I covet you prayers that I will walk IN OBEDIENCE with Him - as HE has prepared the Way for me! Blessings! mommapbs |

342 | Where are you now? | Ps 119:105 | Mommapbs | 103325
Greetings! I'd like to spend a little time with you and digest all that God has shown me over the last several months, but that would take days so we'll have to take a "snack" here and there! First of all - digging into God's Word is a MUST for ALL believers. Before I was active on this Forum, I had no idea what all the doctrinal differences were, so I had to investigate for myself, to see what I have been taught is correct. From my first post, you can see that I was "jaded" a bit because of my legalistic upbringing in the church. God has very clearly identified areas of belief that needed to be corrected: legalism, performance Christianity, issues of self-worth, relating to others - choosing to love, yieldedness to HIS plans and purposes for my life, spiritual gifts etc. and most importantly, learning to recognize that HE is doing the work, not me! As for my current situation - I am choosing to be submissive to my husband and his desire to remain within the church body. I was "set aside" by the leader of our women' ministry, who told me that I was not to "teach" in my postion as a leader of a small group - yet this is just one of my gifts. So I have waited . . . and in the interim, God has been my companion and He has brought many encouragers into my life during this time - the FOrum has been one of HIS sources. I have learned to look for HIS affimration rather than from others. I'll admit that I've had many days of discouragement as well, and yet I can see that this is but more evidence that I am walking in the right direction. Just recently, God answered a prayer that I have had to love as He loves; to see others as He sees them. This has enabled me to respond very differently to those who have hurt or offended me - it has made me more compassionate and caring . . . not that I am "there yet" but it has been a truly amazing experience. To REALLY love as we are loved . . . oh what a Day that will be! continued in next post . . . |

345 | Pologomy Allowed? | Ex 21:10 | Mommapbs | 102402
Greetings Tim! Gen 4:19 is the first mention of pologamy. Note however, the lineage from which it sprang! I wonder why there in no mention of a woman having more than one husband (except for Lot and his incestous girls!) . . . I guess one man is all a woman is able to bear!! Blessings, mommapbs |

346 | Who can give a blessing? | Deut 16:17 | Mommapbs | 102401
Greetings and welcome to the forum - all blessings come from God, we give as He enables us. Mt 10:13 has an interesting instruction. See the post by Makarios atID# 15620! Blessings to you! mommapbs |

347 | Jehonadab. Who is your master? | 2 Pet 2:21 | Mommapbs | 102395
Greetings George! Jehonadab has not responded to this question, yet his last post was 10/29. I suspect that either he is unsure of who his master is or he doesn't want to declare it on this Forum. Let's pray that he sees the Light while it is still today. mommapbs |

348 | 1 King 10 Sheba travels | 1 Kin 10:7 | Mommapbs | 102392
Greetings! I may be reading more into your question or not giving you what you are looking for but as I consider this passage, to me the important thing is that the queen heard and then sought to find out if what she had heard was true. (It was that and more!) The path she took to reach the king did not matter, seeing the king was the most important thing of all. How might we draw a parallel to our own journey to Jesus? We can't stand on the testimony of others, we have to have first hand knowledge of the Savior! Have you discovered that all that Jesus has told us is true? Will you respond like the queen? Will you return to your "own country" and share what you know about THE King? I hope this gives you some additional insight into this passage. It sure has blessed me,thanks for bringing it to my attention! mommapbs |

349 | Evething good that I do is a good fruit? | John 15:4 | Mommapbs | 102377
Greetings! A good motto to remember is : "Let go and Let God!" - you can never "do it right" on your own! Aixen wrote something that I'd encourage you to think about. He posted, "These are not by our own efforts, however. It is still God who works in us, both to will and to do them. And he has a way of using us to help each other to bear fruit." Notice that this is consistent with what Jesus tells us in John 15:5 - "apart from Me, you can do nothing." Unless it is God DOING the work through us, the "good" things that we do merely by self effort have no eternal value. See also I Cor 3:5-7;10-15) There are believers who are totally ignorant of this important truth. Many go about their "ministry" devoid of the power of God because what they are "doing for Him" is self reliant rather than God dependent. These "good things" are no fruit at all! Fruit comes only FROM and being IN the Vine. When asked to serve in some way, if it's something you think YOU can do for God, I'd suggest that it's YOU doing the work and NOT God. This is performance Christianity! But, when what you are asked to do is beyond your natural "ability" or out of your "comfort zone" I'd suggest that THIS is a pretty clear indication of where God wants you to be - for in this place, you MUST depend upon Him! Scary? Yes, but full of blessings as you become His instrument! Blessings, mommapbs PS: God always uses what He gives you! What qualitites has He given to you to serve Him with? There might be some talents or gifts that you are even unaware of! A way to discover them is to just experiment in different areas of service - especially those that may present a real challenge. I suspect that when you find yourself lovng God through what you are doing, you will have found where He desires to bless you. |

351 | condom use not for immorality. | Eph 5:25 | Mommapbs | 101810
Greetings mobisa! You have received some excellent advise from a similar question you posted recently. The key to your question has to do with your attitude. Are you and your wife unified in what you believe about children - for example, if you want 1 child and she would like 3 children, would your efforts at contraception be honorable to her? Similarly, the wife has a responsibility to her husband in this matter as well. God is not limited by OUR choices though! Sometimes, He interrupts our best efforts at thwarting HIS plans - remember that EVERY CHILD, born or unborn is planned by God (Psalm 139). I hope this gives you something to think about. As per MY opinion, IF you and your wife agree that a possible pregnancy is something that you both desire to avoid, I would encourage you to use a contraceptive method that PREVENTS CONCEPTION - this of course excludes abortion (chemical or physical), and an IUD, which allows conception to take place. BTW, we have 5 children, and the one that WE "unplanned" has been God's PLANNED blessing for us! mommapbs |

352 | Prayer without an Answer??? | John 17:23 | Mommapbs | 101686
Greetings! Jesus prayed for our unity almost 2,000 years ago. Has this prayer been answered? I suspect most of us who have been around the FOrum for a while would say , "No." Does this mean that God will not respond to Jesus' prayer - again, "No." When I am frustrated by unanswered prayer I must remember that sometimes God says "Yes;" sometimes God says "No;" and sometimes God says "Wait a while." You are in the "waiting room" right now. Why? Good question. First of all, God is at work. He is preparing to answer you according to HIS will - do you seek that first? James tells us that we have not because we ask with the wrong motives.(James 4:3) Examine yours and ask God to search them - as David exclaimed, "see if there be any wicked way in me!" See Psalm 37:4 - as you continue to read and meditate upon God's Word, HE will give you the deires of your heart. When HE gives you YOUR desires, whose are they? They are God's. When we pray, asking God to give us HIS desires, we are praying in accordance with His will. Therefore, even if His answer seems to be taking a long time, or if His answer is not what you were expecting of Him, do not be discouraged. The Lord hears and will respond, but in His Way (and remember His ways are not our ways) and in His timing. 3 years is a very short time to pray for something when we consider the Old Testament saints. They had the promise of God and earnestly prayed for its fulfillment - without seeing it happen (Heb 11). But we, as believers, have the promised Savior AND His promises! God keeps His promises. He will answer you. Keep trusting Him to work all things together for good! Blessings, mommapbs |

353 | What are we to say? | 1 Pet 3:15 | Mommapbs | 101680
Radioman - Can two walk together unless they be agreed? The Lord desires to be my Companion yet if I choose not to walk with Him, how can I tell anyone else about the "hope I have IN Him?" If our "defense" is without experience is it reasonable for another to believe; is it logical if it is not practical? I think that at times we speak apart from intimate knowledge of the Savior and it leads to confusion in the body. How I wish that folks here would readily tell of what God is doing in their lives this day, rather than rely upon their tales of conversion. Hope I don't hit too many nerves out there, but this really bothers me. mommapbs |

354 | Purpose of this forum? | Luke 14:26 | Mommapbs | 101678
Greetings! You wrote, "a Bible study forum would be the best place to get my Bible-centered questions answered. Was I wrong?" No, you are not wrong, but as you have noted, there are different perspective presented here. Yet there is ONE Spirit, ONE Father and ONE Son in Whom we have unity. As you pursue the truth, remember Who the Author of Truth is - seek HIS counsel. Indeed, Jesus said, "I am the Way the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through me." John 14:6 He also reminds us, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; you will know the TRUTH and the TRUTH will make you free." John 8:31-32. (emphasis mine) Blessings, mommapbs The truth must dazzle gradually Or every man be blind. (Emily Dickinson, 1830-1886) |

355 | Insufficient grace? | Luke 14:26 | Mommapbs | 101677
Greetings seeking4truth! I have been reading along this thread and I want to encourage you to really consider what Aixen7z4 has posted - it is so "right on!" My christian experience parallels yours in many ways, however I willfully walked away from the Lord in my teens. BUT God is faithful to His promises and no one was able to "snatch me" out of His almighty hand! I understand your frustration. For several years I have focused on exactly what you are complaining about, "performance Christianity." As you are discovering, Jesus does all the work; we become an instrument in His hand. Jesus said, "apart from Me you can do nothing!" (John 15:5) Take this to heart. I encourage you to meditate on those words. I found this short devotional and thought you might enjoy it: Beware of thinking of our Lord as only a teacher. If Jesus Christ is only a teacher, then all He can do is frustrate me by setting a standard before me I cannot attain. What is the point of presenting me with such a lofty ideal if I cannot possibly come close to reaching it? I would be happier if I never knew it. What good is there in telling me to be what I can never be — to be "pure in heart" (5:8), to do more than my duty, or to be completely devoted to God? I must know Jesus Christ as my Savior before His teaching has any meaning for me other than that of a lofty ideal which only leads to despair. But when I am born again by the Spirit of God, I know that Jesus Christ did not come only to teach — He came to make me what He teaches I should be. (Oswald Chambers) The last line sums it all up (for me anyway) . . . "He came to make me what He teaches I should be." Blessings on your journey IN the Truth! mommapbs |

357 | MARK 16:16: Was it perverted? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 101590
Greetings arapaga! This subject - baptism - has been hotly debated on the Forum. I'm not sure if you are questioning the twisting of Scripture of the subject of baptism. There have been two view points offered: you believe and are saved or you believe, are baptized and are saved. Into which camp do you fall? Again, if you want to read how others have come to a conclusion on the subject of baptism and salvation, input the words "baptism and salvation" into the quick search field. mommapbs PS: I think that perversion is anytime we make God's Word say what WE want it to say! God does NOT need our help to communicate HIS Truth to our hearts! |
