321 | Why do I have to Hate? | Luke 14:26 | Mommapbs | 105106
Greetings! To understand this passage you must take the emotion out of the word hate. This would be a contradiction of His command to love one another! What Christ is calling for here is complete surrender. "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth." Mt 6:24 Luke 18:18-23 is an illustration of this principle. The ruler chose his wealth (which is anything that takes the rightful place of God in our lives, "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me" !) Jesus tells us to love one another, but HE wants to be first place in our lives. Remember what the greatest commandment is? See Mt 22:36-40. When we love Him with all of our being, the love for others will be a reflection of His love though us! The circle of God's love is complete when we accept God's love, love Him back and love others. A Christ follower is a disciple, but not all disciples are Christ followers. Mt 7:13-29 May God's Word bless you as you learn and follow . . . mommapbs |

Eph 2:4-10, Romans 4:6; Titus 1:1-2,3:5-7 - Now, read all of Hebrews 11. Also, go to Heb 11:39 and click on the notes for this verse - you will find some interesting comments on this thread by Charis. Please post back with what you discover. 323 | Is death penalty acceptable punishment | Prov 3:13 | Mommapbs | 104783
After having "slept" on your question this is a follow up post - Now, considering the passage in Romans - since all governing authorites are established by God (meaning that they exist just as they are by God's permissive will) it seems to me that any laws that these "authorities" create would have to be under that umbrella as well. So, in the USA where capital punishment is allowed by some states, on the basis of this Scripture, should we challenge it? Does the death penalty "deter" acts of murder and mayhem? If we compare the punishment/crime rates of Islamic countries we see that when the punishment fits the crime (?), there is less. (Or at least there is less reported!) Sadly, all too many "authorities" are corrupt and whereby their laws are supposed to serve and protect the people, they fall far short of God's perfect law. But God knows all about this too. Since God's Word declares both the preciousness of life and the validity of the penalty of death, I am at an impasse and will trust these things to the mercy and grace of God. Thanks for making us think! mommapbs |

324 | Is death penalty acceptable punishment | Prov 3:13 | Mommapbs | 104771
Greetings Kalos. My, you are on a roll tonight! What thought provoking questions. Thanks for the scripture references to consider. I'm camping with Gen 9:5-6. With the recent jury decision in the news, I have thought much about our use of the death penalty. As sinners, we are ALL under a sentence of death. The justice of God says that the wages, or penalty for sin is death (Romans 6:23) Does this justify our use of the death penlaty for men who commit evil acts? We have a list of those acts that God's law deems worthy of death, yet did not Christ die for ALL sin, including these? Do we declare His death insufficient by using the death penalty to punish captial offenders? God declares life precious enough to be redeemed. As believers, what should be the focus of our attention - perhaps we should be more concerned about another's ultimate destiny . . . Part of me wants to say a life for a life - but has not a Life already been given? In my heart, I don't really know if I could ever sentence a person to death . . . for some, could living with the consequence of one's sinfulness be a more cruel form of punishment? Thanks be to God who knows who are His! Even the vilest offender is not beyond the redeeming shed blood of Christ. Sorry to not have a more "black or white" answer here. mommapbs |

325 | What does1 Cor. 5:11 mean? | 1 Cor 5:1 | Mommapbs | 104747
Greetings! I want to speak the Truth in love for I believe that you are jealous for the Lord. And although I don't want to judge your actions I'd like to ask you to be introspective for a moment . . . . What are you really upset about, the fact that the woman is continuing to live in sin or that she did not heed your counsel? Some observations for you to consider: Are we not all sinners? Do we dare judge the soul of another? God's Word tells us that there is healing when we confess our sins to one another. (James 5:16) Note also the response that God desires when one confesses, not "counsel" but rather PRAYER. BTW, I am believer and I still sin! I was forgiven on a cross many years ago. As I recognize my rebellion and sin, I repent. I agree with the Lord about this and seek His power to be at work in me to enable my feeble spirit to choose HIS way. I thank Him for His forgiveness and His cleansing, making me into something that I can not - a clean vessel fit for His use. Sometimes I need help from my sisters and brothers in the Lord and I thank God for those who will not judge or condemn me for my failures, but rather come along side to pray and encourage me to place my faith and trust in His ability . . . and sometimes this takes a lot of time. Let us remember that love is patient - it covers a multitude of sins, even ones that others commit! Blessings, mommapbs |

330 | Love God or Fear God? | Matt 1:21 | Mommapbs | 104661
Greetings! Ponder these Scriptures: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Prov 9:10 What is "the knowledge of the Holy One"? As we contemplate Jesus, who He is and what He did we see the love of God - we KNOW Him and the power of His ressurrection (Phi 3:10) which gives us not only hope but confidence to stand before God as worthy, because Jesus makes us so! What love! The absence of faith is fear, therefore, the fear here is a different sort. I see it as a reverence for who God is, an apprehension of His holiness as well as His great love for us. Allow this to overwhelm you! "So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;" Phil 2:12 "We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. We love, because He first loved us." 1 John 4:16-19 How do you respond? Out of duty or obligation or out of a desire to worship and return the love of God for you as He enables . . . I think most of us have learned to love the Lord as we grow in our faith and knowledge of Him. Perhaps we are so overcome by our sinfulness, and recognize that we rightly deserve punishment that we have a bit of trouble receiving the forgiveness of God in Christ. But as we continue to walk with the Lord, we find that His heart is merciful, compassionate and full of unconditional love. Truly, meditation on the love of God which is IN CHRIST, does indeed cast out any fear we have of judgement or punishment. As we respond to HIS qualities, allowing our spirits to be conformed to the image of Jesus, we too will reflect the love of God - toward ourself and others. Your questions are good and worth reflecting upon. May the Lord encourage your heart to trust and respond to Him in love, mommapbs |

332 | Scriptures on the spirit of Apathy? | Prov 1:32 | Mommapbs | 104559
Check out Proverbs 1:32-33! I'm not sure that these suggest that Satan is behind our complacency, but we can be sure that God is NOT! I think that all too often we blame the devil for what just comes naturally! Can Eve blame Satan? I might suggest that our desensitization arises from our own sin nature - which Romans 1 addresses. Satan just uses this to his advantage when he tempts us! BTW, I used Biblegateway and input the words complacency, complacent, indifference etc in NIV and MSG translations to find these verses. 333 | Eph 3: 14-21. What is the lesson? | Eph 3:1 | Mommapbs | 104522
Greetings! Recently I have been considering these portions of Scripture and I suspect that the passage from Paul's letter to the Ephesian church (remember that later they would be chastized for leaving their first love) is a reminder to us to utterly depend upon God for ALL things! Jesus tells us : "Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Mt 5:3 Paul prays: "that He would grant you, according to the RICHES (emp mine)of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man," Eph 3:16 I am reminded of the Laodicean church who thought they were so wealthy . . . in essence they were self-sufficient; they didn't realize their symptoms of independence from God. BUT "Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent." Rev 3:17-19 This is an echo of what Jesus has already said once before( oh we are so slow to receive His instruction!): "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth." Mt 6:24 I pray that this will encourage and cause you to ponder God's great love for us in spite of our tendency to serve another master! Blessings, mommapbs |

334 | Searching for the truth | Rom 5:13 | Mommapbs | 104344
Greetings FytRobert! "And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds." Rev 20:12 Consider this verse in conjuction with Romans 5:13. Would we bold enought to trust the heart of God as He examines the faith of those who do not have His Law? Romans 1:19-20 is very explicit: men are without excuse as God HAS revealed Himself to us. Romans 5:13 declares that sin was already in the world prior to the giving of the Law - However, the first law is recorded in Gen 2. Note the consequence of disobedience in v.3! Therefore, although sin as revealed by the Law may not be charged to the account of man, he is still accountable to the law of God (who He is)as it has been revealed to him. Man has always had a choice, to accept and believe or to reject and reap the penalty of his choice. Remember the wrath of God is against sin. All men are sinners, therefore unless we have been creditited with the righteousness of God for our faith, we are still under the penalty of sin. mommapbs |

336 | Do you have any biblical quotes? | Col 1:15 | Mommapbs | 104339
Greetings! As one who doesn't do her children's homework, I too am not inclided to do yours either, but I do feel led to offer some assistence! If you want to use only words spoken by Jesus when He walked on the earth, as you read the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John)on this site, all of Jesus' words are in RED. However, if you believe that Jesus is indeed God as He declares to us, then the WHOLE BIble is at your dsposal, for indeed man does not live by bread alone, but on every Word that proceedes from the mouth of God! (Mt 4:4) punishment/wrath cloning/life (read Psalm 139) What is Jesus attitude toward the lives of people? Why did He come? Note how Jesus interacted with women Music and art - "make a joyful noise unto the Lord!" Praise His name! - does our art and music do this? The Great Commandment addresses ALL we need to answer God's position on selfishness and greed. Persecution for beliefs - Jesus tells us that we will be persecuted for following Him! Use the "search" field to find Scriptures relating to these topics - my prayer is that God will bless you as YOU open HIS Word! In Christ, mommapbs |

337 | Matt. 5:13 | 2 Tim 1:14 | Mommapbs | 104282
Greetings eemaj - salt is a preservative as well as an additive that perks up the flavor of foods. If the salt looses its ability to preserve or perk up, what good is it? We might as well be sprinkling sand . . . and who wants to eat THAT?! Likewise, as believers we have a testimony and a reputation to uphold as witnesses for the Lord Jesus Christ. If we lose THAT, of what good are we to those who do not know the Savior. Therefore, I exhort you to consider the encouragemnet of Paul to Timothy, to GUARD what has been entrusted to you - the very knowledge and love of God through Jesus. You are indeed the "salt of the earth" for where your life is sprinkled, the preserving (and perking!) life of Christ is spread - I hope this helps! In Him, mommapbs |

339 | Without a vision the people will? | Prov 29:18 | Mommapbs | 103509
Greetings! I'm curious why you have asked this question. It appears as if there is a problem with accountability, submitting to authority or perhaps issues of control and/or jealousy have arisen in your fellowship. Here is a post that I copied for you from Scribe (#42479).Do consider what he is saying here! Scribe posts: Where there is no vision, the people perish If you look up this word in the KJV you will see that it is overwhelmingly used for the prophet who spoke the Word of God to the people calling them to repentance. There were many pillow prophets and false prophets speakning "blessings" and "peace and saftey" at times in Israel's history when there was "no open vision" and the "word of God was precious" If today you have many men preaching but preaching from their own heart and not giving a challenging word from God as revealed to them in prayer and seeking after God's heart, you end up with a people that perish for no prophetic vision. They continue on in their sins with no alarm of the impending judgement to come. And if a minister comes along and decides to obey the heart of God and call the people to repentance he is quickly voted out of the pulpit for a more "tolerable" minister that will "understand" the people. It is only when the preaching of the Word is being done by the power of the Holy Spirit that people will be convicted of sin. Without this dynamic of the anointing the people cast off restraint and say "we are saved to do all these abominations." mommapbs writes: Basically, what is a "vision" - it is what God has revealed to us, and most of it is right before our eyes in His Word. Does God have a different vision for different churches? If we are all one Body IN CHRIST, might His vision for us all be the same? Think about this. Blessings, mommapbs PS: If someone has invented a better wheel we should all use it; if the original wheel cannot be improved (or should no be improved) why fiddle with it? |

340 | Is saturday the day we are to observe th | Ex 20:8 | Mommapbs | 103355
Greetings! Here's a great post from EdB for you to consider: We know from Genesis 2:3 on the seventh day God rested and sanctified the day so I think everyone will agree the seventh day is the Sabbath. Now which day is the seventh day of the week? Saturday or Sunday? For that answer we have to use some reasoning. Easter is celebrated by tradition on the Sunday. And Matt 28:1 tells us that Jesus rose on the first day of the week so Sunday must be the first day of the week making the seventh Saturday. Now the next question you will ask is why doesn’t the Christian church keep the Sabbath on Saturday instead of Sunday? First in the Christian church Sunday is not the Sabbath but rather of day of fellowship and rejoicing the resurrection of our savior. The reason we do not keep the Saturday Sabbath is because Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath and by honoring Him on His day Sunday we also honor the Sabbath. Besides Paul told us in many places not to get hung up on the day, more important is the our heart than which day we worship. Hope this helps EdB Mommapbs writes: As Christ-followers, Sunday, the first day of the week, is significant because it was on this day that Christ rose from the dead. Also, it was on the first day of the week that Jesus appeared to the disciples in the upper room, with a greeting that many fellowships extend to one another during corporate worship today: "Peace be with you" ! John 20:19 Blessings on your day! mommapbs |
