282 | Is Sex before marriage a sin? | 1 Cor 7:2 | Mommapbs | 108751
Greetings! On behalf of the Forum, I apologize for the reply you received that contradicts God's Word. That post is in violation of the Lockman Foundation guidelines that we agree to abide by when posting to this site. Yes, pre-marital sex is wrong; yes, it is a sin. "Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge." Heb 13:4 What happens if a person has sex before marraige? They are openly rebelling against God's law and are subject to the emotional and possible physical (unwanted pregnancy, disease, etc) consequences of their choice. "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap." Gal 6:7 Christ paid the penalty for ALL sin on the cross. Upon your repentence and confession of faith in His atoning sacrifice for your sin, you are free from the penalty (eternal separation from God) BUT, not necessarily from the consequences of your sin! Marrriage is a picture of the union that God desires with us - He longs for a virgin bride - but because of our sin nature, all of us are defiled, impure - we have chased after other "lovers!" Yet, IN CHRIST, we are made into brand new creations, clothed in HIS righteousness, our purity restored. It is indeed an awesome act of GOd's grace to be made clean in this way! I hope this encourages you to choose to be obedient to God's Word. espeically in the area of sexual purity. In Christ's love, mommapbs |

284 | Why we need to worship God? | Luke 4:8 | Mommapbs | 108744
Greetings and welcome. I hope you get other replies from our members, if not re-post your question. Very simply, God does not NEED our worship; WE NEED to worship Him. Why? Aside from the fact that He said so, when we worship Him, we focus our attention where He is and upon what He desires. And His will is ALWAYS with our very best in mind! I hope this encourages you in your search. "know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever." 1 Chron 28:9 Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings Ken John! Check out the post 101345. There is a discussion on this thread. Yes, I believe it is biblical, but I struggled with his use of so many different translations. Also, it is NO SUBSTITUTE for studying God's Word! Blessings, mommapbs |

286 | why did Hosea marry prostitute | Hos 1:1 | Mommapbs | 108706
Greetings! Aside from obeying God, read Hos 3:1-5. How would you feel if you were Hosea? I believe that God wants us to understand that He loves us just as we are - for we too have chased after other gods . . . even as believers, we become as harlots or adulterers in our relationship with Him when we put other people or things before the Lord. How patient He is with us . . . Blessings, mommapbs |

287 | WHO IS THE DEVIL? | Rev 12:11 | Mommapbs | 108702
Hi Rex - please re-think statement 5. WE cannot defeat Satan, Jesus already has - Satan is a defeated foe. "The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil." 1 John 3:8 "Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil," Heb 12:14 We have been given the armor of God to stand firm against the devil's schemes. "Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil." Eph 6:11 Thanks for you post! mommapbs |

289 | punkiedo, is one submersed each time? | Acts 19:5 | Mommapbs | 108695
Greetings searcher! I was a bit confused with this post until I re-read punkiedo's reference in Heb 6:2 (baptisms). The plural use of baptisms suggest that the reader knows that there is John's baptism, the baptism into Christ upon belief and the ordinance of the believer's baptism as commanded by Jesus. "Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of instruction about washings and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment." Heb 6:1-2 Unless I am mis-reading this passage, instruction about washings is part of our "elemetary teaching" and we are exhorted to "press on toward maturity" ! mommapbs |

290 | Still more questions | Matthew | Mommapbs | 108692

291 | moses tabernalce final destination | 2 Chr 1:3 | Mommapbs | 108690
Greetings and welcome to the Forum! From this verse the tabernacle was in Gibeon, yet the Ark was in Jerusalem. (see verse 4)Jerusalem would be the permanent home for the Ark in the Temple of Solomon. See also Ps. 76:2 "His tabernacle is in Salem; His dwelling place also is in Zion." A personal observation from this study: believers are not in their final dwelling place either. We are just like that tabernacle, a temporary repository for the Spirit of God. The NEW Jerusalem (Rev 3:12, 21:2)is the eternal dwelling place of believers. Blessings, mommapbs |

292 | Citron Wood Rev. 18:12 | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 108684
Greetings Vern! A "Google" web search yielded this information which I have copied for you here: The identity of the "citron wood" (NIV), translated "thyine wood" in other translations from the Greek thuinos. Thyine wood is the most obscure timber in the New Testament and its true identity is not known. It has been suggested that it might be the wood of an evergreen found in the Mahgreb, Tetriclinus articulata (Cupressaceae), a relative of the eastern white cedar, Thuja occidentalis. The wood of Tetraclinus is fragrant and the resin has been used to make a varnish. Some images of T. articulata can be seen at http://www.dipbot.unict.it/fito_new/territori/distrmelitense/tetraclinis_articulata.html The following from Greek scholar Eleanor Irwin (personal communication) is helpful. Thyine (GK. thyinos) is an adjective from thyon, the name of a tree. Theophrastus says that it is a hard wood tree like the wild cypress and was known for lasting a long time. It is native to Cyrene in North Africa and the area near the temple of Zeus Ammon, a famous oracle in North Africa. It had been used for roofing (like cedar shakes?). The way Theophrastus mentions this indicates that this was no longer the case. The wood was either too scarce or too expensive - or perhaps both. It was used for making valuable articles. It did not take as high a polish as cypress. The Loeb edition of Theophrastus has a list of Greek plants and their scientific equivalents done by Sir William Thiselton-Dyer who was the director of Kew Gardens in London at the beginning of this century. (He was not always right, even so). He says the thyon tree is Callitris quatravalvis. The name of the tree "thyon" "thyinos" suggests that it was scented. From Revelation, it probably wasn't native to Israel and the use of "all" (pan thyinon) may indicate that it meant scented wood in general and not a specific tree. I noticed that various versions translate "all kinds of scented wood." I hope this helps. mommapbs |

293 | casting our cares on Jesus | 1 Pet 5:7 | Mommapbs | 108673
Welcome to the Forum. I love this verse. It is rich in meaning. (I especially like the Amplified's use of "one and for all.") Have you ever seen a animal that is "cast"? It gets into a position that it can not get up by itself. When I think of casting my burdens or cares upon the Lord, I think of this word picture. Once cast on Him, I cannot take that burden up again. If I can, then it was not really "cast" in the first place. All too often we think that God needs our help to solve our problems; He doesn't. So, to cast means (to me anyway) to LET GO and LET GOD. Blessings, mommapbs |

294 | Genesis 10:5 and 11:1? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 108657
Greetings! Have you ever noticed that by listening to their speech, you can determine a person's origin? Folks from Brooklyn sound much different from those who hail from New Orleans. Those from "down under" sound different from those "across the pond" or even our friends "north of the border." And let's not forget those who speak English as a second language. We are all speaking the same language are we not? But the way our "tongues" are trained to pronounce words may affect they way those words "sound"to others. Basically, the words (language) are the same, but the pronounciations differ. I suspect that this is what the Bible is addressing here. Does this make sense to you? Blessisngs, mommapbs |

295 | Does Satan know my thoughts? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 108609
Searcher offered these Scriptures in an earlier discussion (see post #68) ... Psa 139:2, Jer 12:3, Matt 9:4, Luke 9:47 ... God knows our thoughts ... Satan cannot. Mommapbs writes: I have heard it said that when we are aware of Satan's attempts to gain our attention, we must AUDIBLY rebuke him, just as Jesus did in Mt 16:23. |

297 | MARK OF THE BEAST? | Rev 20:4 | Mommapbs | 108488
Timothy Paul in post # 65746 states: "My advice is to not spend time wondering what the mark may look like, but spend sincere effort in avoiding having the mark affixed to your own flesh, and this can be done only, in my view, by trusting in Jesus as He promises to protect us" As I consider the passages concerning the "mark" I am wondering if perhaps we are taking this far too literally. The forehead might sugest our thinking process - what takes priority in our minds is most often what we set our hands to do! Frankly, I think the magnetic stip on our credit cards poses a threat to our personal privacy as much as anything else these days! And what about the implanted chips that people are using to store medical or other personal information? Just like dogs, we will be able to identify and track all human beings within a short while - indeed it is a new world - one that is not brave at all. mommapbs |

298 | Can one have the Spirit of God? | 1 Cor 7:40 | Mommapbs | 108484
"Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge." 2 Cor 1:21-22 According to this verse, all believers have been given the Spirit. I suspect that Paul is perhaps justifying his opinion here by stating that he believes that it is from the indwelling Spirit. Frankly, marriage to a flawed human being is quite a challenge in comparison to being united with Jesus Christ so I am inclinded to agree with Paul on this! What are you thinking about Ray? Blessings! mommapbs |

300 | Why was Jesus Transfigured ? | Matt 16:28 | Mommapbs | 108479
Greetings Ken John - hey, you have been registered with the Forum for a LONG time and still, you have not posted a personal profile! How about sharing a bit about yourself with us?! Now for your question. It is my belief that Jesus was transfigured as a fulfillment of the prophecy He gave in Mt 16:28. I'm sure that there will be those who will disagree with me and have another "take" on this, but this is where I am with this at the present time! Although I believe that this is worth considering, I do have a teachable spirit and am certainly open to other views! (And of course, as a woman, I can and do change my mind!) Blessings, mommapbs |
