121 | what does fear mean (respect or scared) | Eccl 8:13 | Michael Draves | 150123
Most places like proverbs the idea is closer to repect or awe. In Ecclesiastes it can be read as actually being afraid.
122 | Israel the promise land? | Gen 17:8 | Michael Draves | 150093
Genesis 13:15 for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever. Genesis 17:8 "I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God." Revelation 20:4 Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. Revelation 21:2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. John 4:21 Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. John 4:23"But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. |

Gen 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years." 124 | model to make decisions of obedience God | Matt 16:24 | Michael Draves | 149989
Matt 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. 19 1 John 3:16 We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. Mic 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God? Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. Phil 3:7 But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Phil 3:8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, Phil 3:9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, Phil 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; Phil 3:11 in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Phil 3:12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Phil 3:13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, Phil 3:14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Phil 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; Phil 3:16 however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained. Phil 3:17 Brethren, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us. Phil 3:18 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, Phil 3:19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. |

126 | What Value does man place upon himself? | Ps 8:4 | Michael Draves | 149984
Ps 22:6 But I am a worm and not a man, A reproach of men and despised by the people. Ps 8:4 What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? Ps 8:5 Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty! Ps 8:6 You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, Is 14:13 But you said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north.' Psalm 22 has been interpretted as about Jesus and Isaiah 14 as about Satan. |

128 | Building a Christian library | Rev 13:18 | Michael Draves | 149936
Browse ChristianBook.com and request the CBD catalog. You probably will want an Exhaustive Stong's Concordance for searching for words but it is indexed on the KJV so you will need a KJV even if you prefer a different translation. There are some short definitions of Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew words with the concordance. There are newer versions of the Brown Driver Briggs Hebrew lexicon and Thayer's Greek lexicon that help find the words by the strong number if you want more definitions to read. Or you could just do the look up in the interlinear search at studylight.org and click on the word you want the definitions of. An Oxford Bible Atlas might help give geographical perspective. You might ask your pastor to recommend a commentary.
129 | The Annals of Kings | 1 Chr 1:1 | Michael Draves | 149932
What you are looking for is apparently lost. Beside of 1st and 2nd Kings you have 1st and 2nd Chronicles. The Complete Dead Sea Scrolls in English lists in the Biblically based apocryphal section fragments 4Q382 as part of paraphrase on Kings and 4Q481A as part of an Elisha apocryphon.

132 | 12 apostles? why? | Rev 21:14 | Michael Draves | 149567
12 is the number of the tribes of Israel. See Revelations 21:12-14. There were at least 72 (Luke 10:17) who might have been called disciples but after the death of Judas only two were chosen between as a replacement(Acts 1:23) because of all they witnessed.

134 | Desirability of a literal reading? | 2 Sam 16:12 | Michael Draves | 149523
I like the literalness of the NASB for doing bible study but I would suggest you look at more versions of the same verse rather than looking to a verse in another book. There are times that the literal reading of a text would be to indelicate for a pulpit. A literal translation for the idiom rendered "compassion" in Matthew 9:36 is gross. A literal reading of 1 Kings 12:10 for the word translated 'loins' would not be appropriate for a church or a synagogue.
135 | In Him? | Col 1:14 | Michael Draves | 149522
The Greek manuscripts of Colosians 1:14 having "through his blood" are 614 from the 13th century, 630 from the 14th century and 2464 from the 10th century. It is also supported by the Clementine version of the latin vulgate in 1592. Where is it in any early Greek manuscript? The goal of textual criticsm is to try to establish what was in the original manuscripts rather than what should be. This may have been inserted by a scribe familiar with the similar verse in Ephesians.
136 | Foreign women in the Old Testament | Ruth 1:1 | Michael Draves | 149353
Foreign women were generally considered a liability because of worshipping other gods and leading Hebrew husbands astray. Solomon is the primary example. Ruth is an example of a foreign women who is extolled for her faithfullness to Naomi and is an ancestor of David. Rahab the prostitute was also favored because she hid the spies at Jericho.
137 | Please Help | Revelation | Michael Draves | 149074
Try reading Revelation as if it were a Greek drama. I saw it performed this way at SBTS in 1985 and think James Blevins proposed it as such.
138 | Confessing faith in the Light? | John 12:42 | Michael Draves | 149071
It's been twenty years since I did any Greek translation in college but I can't remember any reason to imply the object but the subjects gender and number is implied. Based on a previous part of the verse I might say: they were not confessing [belief in Him] I know it has been to long since I didn't think about looking for the root word under omicron instead of omega. |

Acts 9:20 Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. 1 John 4:15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. 1 John 5:5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. |
