41 | God and His promises | 1 John 1:9 | Jagfire | 172987
God's promises to us are all over the Bible. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This promise is based on the forgiving nature of God and is available to all believers. In Phillipians 4.. “The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” This promise is made to all believers who bring their requests to God. There are plenty of promises for us. Revelation 3:20.. Psalm 31:24.. and many other times in the book of Psalm. God gives us promises that better fulfill His will. God does not make a promise that bends His will. |

42 | You might be a carnal christian if--- | 1 John 2:15 | Jagfire | 173659
Well, some of the "characteristics" I'd look for is an inactive prayer life, no time spent in the Word, involvement in sinful ways of the world and no worship in their life. How do we avoid these pitfalls you say? By using prayer, the Holy Spirit, the church, and of course the Word of God. 2nd Timothy 3:16 explains the Bible equips us for every good work. Prayer is powerful as well as God promises us thigns through prayer in several verses - Matthew 7:7-11, John 6:23-27, 1st John 5:14-15. As far as the Church, God says to confess our faults to one another/James 5:16. "A threefold cord is not easily broken." - Proverbs 27:17 reminds us here that we can find strength in numbers. Good luck/God bless! |

43 | revpete7, What are the 3 of 5 in Acts? | 1 John 3:24 | Jagfire | 172303
There are 3 times in Acts where speaking in tongues was accompanied with receiving the Holy Spirit. The verses are Acts 2:4 Acts 10:44 Acts 19:6 Remember that throughout Acts, thousands of people came to Christ or believed in Jesus, and nothing is said about them having the ability to speak in tongues. In the specific 3 cases in Acts, God enabled the Gentiles to speak in tongues so that they could show they had received the same Holy Spirit the apostles had. Nowhere in the Bible is it said or implied that Christians should expect the gift of tongues upon receiving Christ. |

44 | Jesus said "Have Faith in ME" | 1 John 5:14 | Jagfire | 174346
Praying in Jesus’ name means asking God the Father to answer our prayers because we come in the name of His Son, Jesus. It means the same thing as praying according to the will of God. "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him" 1st John 5:14-15 You must pray for things that will honor and glorify Jesus. If what you asked for was not for God’s glory/according to His will, do not expect it to be "granted." Also, you say you got no answer for the week. Remember that God answers every prayer that is lifted to Him. Just because what you asked for has no happened in a week does not mean the prayer went unanswered. Sometimes God answers "no" or "wait". Be patient: "Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not yourself in any wise to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth” -Psalm 37:7-9 |

45 | Where is one's soul before JudgementDay | Rev 20:11 | Jagfire | 172572
The Bible tells us that after the moment of death, a person is taken to Heaven or Hell based on whether he or she had received Christ as his or her Savior. For believers, after death is to be "away from the body and at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:23) This is where it can get confusing.. Revelation 20:11-15 describes all those in Hell being cast into the lake of fire. Revelation chapters 21-22 describe a New Heaven and New Earth. Therefore, it seems that until the final resurrection, after death a person resides in a “temporary” Heaven and Hell. A person's eternal destiny will not change, but the precise "location" of a person's eternal destiny will change. At some point after death, believers will be sent to the New Heavens and New Earth (Revelation 21:1). At some point after death, unbelievers will be thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15). These are the final, eternal destinations of all people. Hope this clarified. |

46 | weeping | Rev 21:1 | Jagfire | 173272
There is nothing wrong with weeping - Jesus wept at the death of Lazarus, His friend (see John 11). He then went on to raise Lazarus from the dead, so we cannot say that He did not glorify God through that.
