241 | and hell? | Ps 29:2 | JCrichton | 108791
Hi, Need of Insight! Like you, many people question the logic/reason of hell and armageddon... You state that even our temporal justice system seems to better God's. Are you sure? Is 1:18-20--what more do you want? Your reasoning is like that of an aquaintance that was suffering for those that will not be written in the Book of Life (Revelation 21:8). He was on the verge of apostasy: He could not reconcile a God of Love committing so many people to the fires of eteranal damnation. I spent many hours searching the Scriptures with him in an effort to liberate his mind from our finite way of thinking. At times we mix up God's words in our minds and we see only that which we desire (remember Israel how they kept the clause about Yahweh's restitution where the sins of the parents would be visited upon the children? But right next to that is God's promise to those who obey (1000 years! of love and protection) why did they not hold fast to that part of the Scriptures? Deuteronomy 30:19-20 does not suggest that we can choose whatever we want; it only suggests that we have the power to choose between life and death. But, clearly, Yahweh wants us to choose life! Hell was made for Satan and his angels--and those who refuse to accept God and His commandments will end up in the same situation. But it is not God's wish that we perish (corporally or spiritually): Ezekiel 18:32. Read Romans 9:19 through 11:32. Ultimately, we are the ones who, by our personal choice, decide where our eternity is going to be: Revelation 16:11 or Revelation 20:4-6. Let me illustrate with temporal values: I have a friend who is a very king man. I've known him for over 10 years. Though not religious he is knowledgeable about Bible and Jesus. He has chosen not to follow the Way; rather, he stays on the outskirts of faith and obedience. He has a problem with alcohol. Throughout the years he has totaled many vehicles, his money, wallet, jacket, watch and other property have been stolen, possibly by those he drinks with. And though he has a good paying job with excellent benefits, a wife, kids, and a house... he continues to befriend the bottle. He is not yet an alcoholic (he has sporadic binges). But regardless of all the risks, regardless of all the wasted time and money, regadless of all the pain he has put his mom, wife and children through his choice is to drink--to exhaustion! He can choose not to drink and enjoy life to the fullest or he can choose to drink and perhaps shortten his life span by decades, cause extreme anguish on his family and run the risk of killing of being killed! His choice is clear: he should choose life! But nothing has been a deterrent to his bouts with alcohol! Do you think that my friend would appreciate me following him around to keep him from drinking too much or to keep him from getting into negative situations? He would not! He would hate me for controlling his life and for censuring his desire to "be free to choose alcohol (death)!" God could treat humanity as puppets, forcing us to do exactly what He wills us to do--would we Love God then and would we submit to His Authority? The other thing God could do is what He has done from the beginning: allow us the freedom to choose Life: to choose Him! God Bless! |

242 | Is "no" or "wait" prayer not answered | Ps 80:4 | JCrichton | 135958
Hi, Romenile! Prayers are part of the Christian's persona... there's is no way that a Christina cannot pray--always! Sometimes the problem Christians face with prayer request is lack of patience... sometimes is lack of humility... sometimes is lack of communion... Jesus tells us that we are to ask and that we are to believe that what we asked for is granted by God... but He never said "the second you ask you will receive!" There are conditions that must be met when asking God for assistance (Luke 18:1-8; Mark 11:24-26; James 4:3;); two very specific conditions are found in Matthew 6:10 and Luke 11:13: asking in God's will and forgiving those who have trespassed against us! Just as a sample, I am including some of the apostles' exchanges dealing with prayer: Romans 1:10; Philippians 1:4; Colossians 1:3; 4:12; 1 Thessalonians 1:2; 2 Thessalonians 1:11; philemon 1:4... they all include consistency and hope! We must check that our prayers are not self-serving, that our hearts is not just straight with the Lord but straight also with our brethren and our neighbors; we must check for inconsistency in our hope and respect for God's Will; check our lives for signs of God's responses (sometimes we want to see the sea parting as a sign that God is there with us... at times it is not the comparative growth of a business or financial affairs but the 'round-the-corner assist without which we would have failed terrebly waaaay back!); one more thing to look for is how we are receiving the inability to plow ahead into that financial status that we desire to attain! Above all, we must remember to thank God for all the little things that make our lives worth living--even without the comforts afforded by a solvent/lucrative financial status. God Bless! Angel |

243 | scripture supporting Trinity doctrine? | Ps 83:18 | JCrichton | 106574
Hi Edie! I know that this reference was made to Kalos but the Trinity has been somewhat of a pet project for me... We all know that the word "Trinity" is not found in the Bible, but the Scriptures support the doctrine. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, made a very succinct revelation in Matthew 28:19, and though He did not use the word "Trinity," He revealed the formula of the three Divine Persons. Though the writings suggest that the apostles did not use Matthew 28:19 as a formula for baptizing, they understood that the Father is God, that the Son is God, and that the Holy Spirit is also God. They realized that God exists and oparates by means of these three Divine Persons: Acts 2:38-39; Romans 14:17-18; 1 Corinthians 2:10-16; 1 Corinthians 6:11; 1 Corinthians 12:3; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; 2 Corinthians 13:13; Galatians 4:4-7; Ephesians 2:17-18; Ephesians 2:19-22; Ephesians 4:3-6; Titus 3:4-7; 1 Peter 1:2; 1 Peter 4:14; 1 John 5:7; Jude 20-21... hence, their teachins and salutations used a variation of Jesus' formula in Matthew 28:19. Hope this has been of some use to you! God Bless! |

244 | Moses and the Promise Land | Ps 106:33 | JCrichton | 140120
Hi, tonees! Jesus made a statement about believers, He said that to those who are given much would be demanded of them and that to those who much has been trusted much more will be demanded of them! (Luke 12:48); James words it a little differently, but basically it speaks on our responsibility in the eyes of God (James 3:1)... Moses had been placed in a singular possition of authority over Israel and though he served faithfully for many years, he allowed the bickering of the people of Israel to cause Him to, oh so slightly, sin against God (Numbers 27:12-14; Deuteronomy 3:23-28; Numbers 20:1-13). We must also take into account that Aaron was already dead and that the people entering into the promised land were the younger generations--those younger than twenty (with the exception of those who had not sinned against God. (Numbes 14:26-28) God Bless! Angel |

245 | early church state that the Ot is divine | Ps 119:142 | JCrichton | 118179
Hi, ministermay! The early Church, founded by the Apostles, states this: All scripture is inspired by God and useful for refuting error, for guiding people's lives and teaching them to be upright. This is how someone who is dedicated to God becomes fully equipped and ready for any good work. (James 3:16-17) I can't find any other passage that can be clearer than that! God Bless! Angel |

246 | What does this verse mean along with v-6 | Ps 126:5 | JCrichton | 155226
Hi, business woman! There are numerous Scriptural passages in the Old Testament which speak on Yahweh's love and protection of Israel, His chosen people... these verses speak on Israel's rescue from the various places of captivity and the time they will be brought back to Jerusalem the City of the Great King where they will no longer suffer the oppressions of their enemies and will find joy and happiness in the Lord their God! When we read the Old Testament we find many chronicles of Israel's disobedience, their rejection of Yahweh and His Laws and their subjection to serviture in the hands of their enemies as God allows them to be removed from the Promised Land and scattered around the nations... still God's Promise is not dissolved by Israel's disobedience... there's an appointed time when Israel will be called back into the fold and both nations will be one. (Romans 9:30 thru 11:12) God Bless! Angel |

248 | Please help me understanding its meaning | Ps 141:4 | JCrichton | 121967
Hi, erwin! From the very beginning there has been a called for the servants of God to be separate from the children of the world! This separation is due to God's command that His followers be pure from all the pagan rituals and beliefs. But we must be careful how we apply this separation; I mean, there are poeple out there claiming that God's command is to have purity of race (ethnicity, culture, color...). "Are we supposed not to accept gifts given by someone whom we suspected "uncleaned?"" It is not enough to suspect someone of being uncleaned (unrighteous; anti-Christian...): Do not judge: Matthew 7:1-2 By "suspecting" we are judging. If there is no evidence that someone is actually against Christ or worshipping a god who is not the One True God, how can we separate ourselves from that person/s? The reason why we are to be separated from an "unclean" person is because any joining (be it partaking in that person's activities or simply passively supporting him/her--yes as in receiving gifts or simply maintaining a relationship (other than that of preaching and teaching him/her about Christ)--in any form) makes us equal partners in their unrighteous and rebellious acts: Matthew 9:4-5 and 1 Corinthians 6:16. God Bless! Angel |

250 | will pour out My (my) spirit?Who?What | Prov 1:23 | JCrichton | 107880
Hi, Ray! I liken the spirit of wisdom to the gifts of the spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4-11); but this is not the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:6-16; John 14:15-17, 25-26; 16:7-11; Hebrews 3:7-11). Sadly, there are those who would want to silence the Truth about the Holy Spirit and demote Him to an electric current that has energy or even to simple human knowledge and reason. They read Proverbs 1:20 and appease themselves saying: "...see, it's only a good feeling, a thing God gives us (or something to that effect)." They ignore every Biblical passage that declares that the Holy Spirit is God! (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). God Bless! |

251 | People want answers! | Prov 3:5 | JCrichton | 107818
Hi, inmyheart! I hope you have followed the cascade your post created. In your search for God do not limit God by the people you find in your path. There are X number of religious sects (divisions and subdivisions): some want to baptize at birth; some want to baptize at man/womanhood; some want to baptize at age 30... some want to sprinkle; some want to semi-submerge; some want to fully submerge... some want you to speak in tongues; some want you to let your infants play with vipers; some want you to cure all ailments... As you pointed out there is only one God! And there's only one Way to God! But Jesus warned that there would be division: "I did not come to bring the peace..." "two in a bed--one taken..." Stay in this Forum or search out another source, just don't leave God out of your equation! Search the Scriptures agains any and all answers/comments that you receive! God Bless! P.S.: I have attached my post on your cascade: Subject: People want answers! Note: Indi, hi! Though it may seem that "I have no life" I came to this Forum searching for eBibles and dictionaries (hopefully I'll find some free or low cost that can assist me in my relegious endeavor). At first sight I thought I was in the wrong place: disrespect; name calling; oral assaults, gangs... My nearly 1st and last question was preceeded by a statement that expressed such concern. I was greeted by several members (one post included what I considered a hidden assault) yet I decided to stay. If this were an "expert" forum I would not be here! From early life I have learned that feeding answers to people does not equate to true teaching/learning, with the exception of Jesus Christ who by His Divine Will connected with the spirit of those he sought out. But the most forceful He ever got was: "those who have eyes; those who have ears..." "You can't do serious Bible study by asking questions and passively accepting the answers." Why doesn't every body see this? Children do not learn from their parents' tight reign and total dictatorship; they learn from their parents' vigilance, assistance and guidance! Believing in Christ Jesus requires an individual undertaking: "those who do not hate their... cannot be my disciples." Further, the only true way that there could be a clinically synchronized forum is if the "expert" are members of a single denominational congregation or if they condescend to one another: there's a phrase for that: political correctness (a misnomer attested by our recent and not so recent history). Again I quote you: "I commend the Lockman Foundation for having the courage and the faith to make this forum available. You folks are asking for a different web site with a different purpose." God Bless! |

252 | proverbs 30 verse 20 explain in details | Prov 6:32 | JCrichton | 123286
Hi markaalchapman! This is exactly what happens in society at large, both male and female fornicators and adulterers find contentment in their wickedness. They have convinced themselves that they have done something wonderful. I liken their attitute to that of Adam and Eve as they were both adulterers who chose a relationship with a creature rather than to be faithful to the Creator. Once discovered, they simply resorted to justify their actions. Society teaches that fornication and adultery are just another "lifestyle!" Children are being taught (check out the programs/movies geared to teens and pre-teens) that having multiple partners is the key to happiness, and that having extramarital affairs (check out the rest of the programs/movies) is a necessity to keep the marriage "fresh." Even at the prevalence of sexual deceases, multiple partnerships are celebrated as "spice" to life (check the "hollow wood" culture). God Bless! Angel |

253 | Proverbs 8 Wisdom Equals Jesus | Prov 8:22 | JCrichton | 125328
Hi, suzybeezy! The Holy Spirit is the Wisdom of God: 1 Corinthians 2:6-13 1 Corinthians 12:3-11 Ephesians 1:13-14, 17 Ephesians 3:10-21 In the last days--the Lord declares-- I shall pour out my Spirit on all humanity. Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your young people shall see visions, your old people dream dreams. Even on the slaves, men and women, shall I pour out my Spirit. (Acts 2:17-18) This pouring of the Spirit is granted to us through Christ Jesus: I shall ask the Father, and he will give you another Paraclete to be with you for ever, the Spirit of truth whom the world can never accept since it neither sees nor knows him; because he is with you, he is in you. (John 14:16-17) but the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all I have said to you. (John 14:26) When the Paraclete comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who issues from the Father, he will be my witness. (John 15:26) Still, I am telling you the truth: it is for your own good that I am going, because unless I go, the Paraclete will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will show the world how wrong it was, about sin, and about who was in the right, and about judgement: about sin: in that they refuse to believe in me; about who was in the right: in that I am going to the Father and you will see me no more; about judgement: in that the prince of this world is already condemned. I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you to bear now. However, when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he will not be speaking of his own accord, but will say only what he has been told; and he will reveal to you the things to come. He will glorify me, since all he reveals to you will be taken from what is mine. Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: all he reveals to you will be taken from what is mine. (John 16:7-15) There is a marvelous union in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit... each reveals Himself as God throughout Israel's journey from Egypt to the New Jerusalem. In the last days it will not be Yahweh (the Father) nor Yeshua (the Son) but the Spirit (the Holy Spirit) who will work directly with the Church--giving to the members of the Body of Christ according to His Will and Wisdom! The Jehovah Witnesses have been adamant about namimg Jesus as God's wisdom; sadly, their whole approach is to present Christ as a creature and not the Creator--please be careful not to fall into that fallacy! I am not familiar with the Hebrew and Greek Languages, but the Latin Language and its derivatives (Spanish, French, Italian...) are gender baised; that is: everything is gender specific (male or female). The Spanish word for wisdom is sabiduria--it falls under the femenine geneder: la sabiduria. Perhaps the author is applying the same grammatical rule. Also, remember that the Old Testament was written in a poetic tone (generous use of metaphores...); I recall one particular passage where Yahweh talks about wanting to gather Israel as a hen gathers her chicks--of course Yahweh is always masculine not femenine... I hope these examples will help you with the femenine gender being applied to Wisdom. One final comment: Obtain (borrow or buy) a Catholic Holy Bible, read the book of Wisdom completely and, then, compare with all of the passages cited, including your original passages. God Bless! Angel |

254 | Hypocrites | Prov 12:15 | JCrichton | 157399
Hi, Lunar! I was away for a few... came back and noticed your earlier post... you seem to have some sort of theme going on... but I truly can't tell what it is that you are attempting to voice... I have had encounters with several members of this forum (as well as many others in other forums that I visit)... for the most part these people are seeking the Lord... though there are diverse walks, few have I encountered that are anti-Christian and posing as disciples of Christ... If you truly feel that you've been wrong, my friend, the best thing to do is to place the charge in a clear and concise post... if it involves more than one issue, why not make it a series of posts--introducing each element as the previous one has been addressed? You voice your concern for others who might be led astray... personally, I think that that is reason enough for you to stay and seek to clarify any issue; how can those that follow learn if the errors are not brought forth and remedied? I can only imagine that you may have encountered strong opinions/voices that have questioned your expressions... if you seek to represent Christ, remember that He did not walk away from tough assignments and that He used dialogue to establish His concerns! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, kalos! I think that it is only wishful thinking. Such as when people pray for their team/boxer to win... I see the same conumdrum facing Christians when they call: Maran atha! Jesus warned of things to come and He said that for the sake of the elect everything would unfold gradually and not all at once! Yet, when we call for His Second Coming, aren't we asking for the full effect to take place? How ready are we (all Christians of the world) to face an all-out-end-of-times visitation from God? 258 | How can a person be righteous | Prov 28:9 | JCrichton | 133331
Hi, Noveta! There's nothing we can do on our own to become righteous: What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." (Romans 4:3) Though Abraham believed, it was God who found him righteous! This is the reason for the incarnation of the Word, the Lamb of God: remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. (Ephesians 2:13-22) So we are no longer to worry about the limitations of sin and the Law, in Christ Jesus we have free and clear access to God: Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 10:19-31) Jesus is our rightousness! God Bless! Angel |

259 | Where was Ecclesiastes written | Ecclesiastes | JCrichton | 118739
Hi, RevellKim! Here's what I have on Ecclesiastes: The aurhor of this book is puzzled. In his meandering and disorderly quest he repeatedly rejects all solutions based on traditional morality, not without a trace of bitterness. He veers from one extreme to another: at one moment he seems to reject the after-life (3:18), at another to accept it (12:7). Struck by the futility of life, love, work and wealth, he remains dissatisfied, though he still accepts God as creator, ruler and goal of human destiny. This mentality reflects the disillusionment following the Exile, when the old certainties had perished, and the upsurge of faith and devotion in the Maccabean period had not yet occurred. The identity of the author is unknown. He presents himself as Solomon, the father of Wisdom in Israel, but this is a recognised literary fiction. 'Qoheleth' means only 'man of the Assembly', perhaps its speaker or president. At all events, the book is valuable for its uncomfortable and questioning faith, and its inclusion in the Bible is a reassurance for all who share this attitude. [New Jerusalem Bible] As I understand it, it was written by a Jewish sage (Qoheleth or teacher) about three hundred years before Christ was born. God Bless! Angel |

260 | Why bother to make requests when we pray | Eccl 7:17 | JCrichton | 135290
Hi, joy! There are many doctrines out there... it seems that some people love to feel security even more than listening to God's Word! We are the elect, in Jesus, not that our lives are written down to the nanosecond of our temporal existence... but that we are Saved in Jesus! We are made God's children, in Jesus. We have Life, in Jesus! Regardless of how many times people may tell you that we do not need to do things... or that we must do what they say... remember Jesus' Word: The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him." (John 3:35-36) It is our choice that condemns or liberates us, not God since God offers us Life in Jesus: "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. (John 12:47-49) So in keeping with Jesus' command to listen to the Word, here's what He says about praying: Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' "For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!' " And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:1-8) God Bless! Angel |
