281 | Real Effects | John 6:56 | JCrichton | 133732
Hi, Dalcent! I agree with you... it is not a mere symbolic gesture! Paul speaks on this to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 10:16, 20-22; 11:20-24)... what I find intereting is how in 11:23 he reveals that just as the other Apostles teach so does he, yet his ordination comes directly from Christ so as Christ Commands him so he teaches! Paul makes a clear distinction between a mere gathering for food consumption, a mere gathering for fellowship rituals and an active command from Christ to live in His fellowship: the Body of Christ! 282 | Everyone who loves is of God?? | 1 John 5:12 | JCrichton | 133730
Hi, Liberty Belle! I understand your situation... I've met people who want to use Scripture the way we do commerce: take what we want discard what we dislike... Try to explain to her that God is Love and that those who Know God have to Live in God's Love... God's Love is Jesus! (John 3:16) And try to explain to her that doing "good" is not proof enough that we are in God's Love (1 John 2:1-11)... it is not enough to do "good" to those who are our friends, relatives, coworkers... we must fellowship with Christ (be His disciples) and He calls us to love even our enemies (Matthew 5:43-48) and to live in Him (John 15:5-14)! God Bless! Angel |

283 | How does God determine the difference? | Heb 6:1 | JCrichton | 133729
Hi, Mommapbs! I read through the thread... I think that part of the problems we (Christians) have is that we come to Scripture and take away different understanding of what God is saying because we breakdown Scripture to individual passages and subpassages that support our personal views... I look at Scripture as a whole... sometimes it seems that Scripture contradicts Scripture... but that is only if seen from a limited perspective... ie: We find Scripture that tells us that those who call on the Lord will be saved! ...so many people run with that particular verse/s and any others that support it... Yet Jesus Himself tells us that not all who call Him Lord will enter the Kingdom of Heaven! So... are we saved if we call Him Lord or are we not saved?... Jesus further explains that only those who do as He commands can be saved... and He offers a comparison with those who merely claim to know Him and those who actually obey Him (Matthew 7:21-27; Luke 6:46; Matthew 25:31-46). Clearly, we ourselves can do nothing to merit Salvation but our faith is not mere chanting of words because they are found in Scripture, we must be doers of the Word (James 1:22) and the call of the Word is that we humbly obey Christ and His Command (Matthew 17:5). Obeying Christ is doing His Will and His Will is quite clear (Luke 22:25; Matthew 5:20; 25:31-46). God Bless! Angel |

284 | Would this be biblically accurate? | Luke 18:11 | JCrichton | 133630
Hi, Reighn! I must disagree with you... generally people judge others on so many superficial and materialistic grounds that they outweigh the sample you have offered... We need only look to the younger generations (both boys and girls) who are assaulting each other on such frivolous issues as shoes, jackets, people being admired, skirts, makeup, boys/girls they might like to date, intelligence or lack of, athleticism or lack of, and waaay many more perceived fixations)... Even Christians are not safe from the ego monger complex as the same type of "clicks" are formed as in the world: the same preocupation with the wealthy/celebrity; the same animosities them vs. us; the same superiority complexes: show me, prove it, my version... Jesus gave us the simplest example of false worship and egocentrism in Luke 18:10-14; there are many Scriptural passages that speak on judgment and the consequence of these judging others: 1 Corinthians 1:11-13; John 11:43-53; James 4:11-16; 1 Corintians 3:1-10; Titus 3:9; James 3:16; James 4:1-7; Judging others as inferior to us or judging ourselves superior to others is the greatest cause of rivalry amongst individuals (including siblings and friends) and social/religious factions (including within a group/relegious establishment). 285 | identification of son of God | Gen 1:1 | JCrichton | 133521
Hi, Young India! Could you be asking for reference to Christ Jesus as the Creator? In respect to the Scripture offered (Genesis 1:1...), here's what Paul revealed to the Colossians: For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. (Colossians 1:13-20) Another important Scriptural passage that explains the relationship between the Son and the Father is found in John: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:1-4, 10-14) God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Jenn! It is kind of difficult to find Scripture for a very specific theme... Check these: Matthew 2:10; Luke 1:14, 47; Philippians 4:4 1 Thessalonians 5:16 Luke 2:11--this as a reminder that our Lord came to us as a simple babe... John 16:21--great celebration of mother and child but may be too deep... God Bless! Angel |

288 | Rich obligated to help the mentally ill | 2 Cor 9:7 | JCrichton | 133517
Hi, Pinoypride18! Contrary to what people believe there is no obligation placed on the wealthy... conversely, Christians have every obligation placed on us by Christ Jesus! James tells us that we are to be doers of the Word (James 1:22); he takes his cue from Jesus: Matthew 7:21-27; Luke 6:46; Matthew 25:31-46; 20:25-28; Luke 18:22; 19:8-10... So, as Christians, those who have wealth are obliged to assist those in need; sadly, too many affluent Christians are imitating the Pharisees, Sadducees, and the world--rather than obeying Christ! 290 | What is the Bible | John 1:1 | JCrichton | 133416
Hi! There are many definitions for the "Word." The most important ones are: Word - Jesus, the second Divine Person of God. Word - Revelation of God, be it a direct Commandment, an admonition, a prophecy, an instruction, a communiqué, a warning... Word - Jesus' Gospels: the writings about His incarnation, His Teachings, His Sacrifice, His Resurrection, His Ascension... Word - God's Spirit with the ability to free us from sin and condemn us for our rebelliousness! I have made a quick search and I am offering various Scriptural passages, please first study the two which I consider most important ones since they define the relationship between the Word and God: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:1-3--see also verses 4, 5, and 14) That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched--this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. (1 John 1:1-3) The following are too numerous to be able to list them quickly so I am just listing the Biblical references: Ephesians 1:13; 6:17; Colossians 1:25-29; 2 Timothy 4:2; Hebrews 4:12; 11:3; James 1:22; 1 Peter 1:23, 25; 1 John 2:7; 5:7; Matthew 13:21-23; Mark 4:33; 7:13; Luke 1:2-4; 3:2; 5:1; 8:11; John 6:63; 10:35; 12:48; 15:3, 25; 18:9, 32; God Bless! 291 | Who wrote the bible | 2 Tim 3:16 | JCrichton | 133412
Hi! The Holy Scripture is God inspired... holy men of God were guided by the Holy Spirit as they made known God's revelations, admonitions, commandments, statutes, and prophecies: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:20-21) but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him--to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen. (Romans 16:26-27) God Bless! Angel |

292 | Who is the Lord of the harvest in Mat 9: | Matt 9:38 | JCrichton | 133352
For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. (Ephesians 2:18) Hi, Al John! Ephesians 2:18 demonstrates the relationship between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit... how do we separate one from the other? One God Indivisible! Each one of the three Pesons of God functions mutually-dependent... though each is revealed throughout the Bible in different time frames and fuctions, we discover that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit always act as one! So the Father is the Lord (Deuteronomy 11:1), the Son is Lord (John 13:13) and the Holy Spirit is both the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:3, 4-6; 1 Peter 1:10-11;)... ultimately it is the Father who will receive everything from the Son (1 Corinthian 15:28); yet, in the interim, it is the Holy Spirit who works with the Church to prepare the harvest for Christ's Second Coming and it is He who will separate the sheep from the goats: "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. "Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ "Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ "The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' "They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ "He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." (Matthew 25:31-46) God Bless! Angel |

293 | God dosn't love everybody???? | John 3:16 | JCrichton | 133348
Hi, Doyle! There's a difference between God loving the world and God loving everybody... In John 3:16 Scripture tells us that God loved the world... but listen to what Scripture actually say: For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. This is the condition of God's love... it is not come one come all just as you are/wish: meaning that we cannot expect to be rebellious to God's Authority and still remain in His love: And the judgement is this: though the light has come into the world people have preferred darkness to light because their deeds were evil. (John 3:19) Paul, speaking to the Romans explains it this way: For the wage paid by sin is death; the gift freely given by God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) So... though God so loved the world (humanity) that He gave His only begotten Son as sacrifice for our ransom, not everybody has accepted this Gift (John 1:10-12); hence, not everybody is God's beloved child! Sadly, people who want to govern themselves reject God's Will and Authority, and they pick and choose which Biblical passage they want to accept... they live the fallacy which reasons that since God is love He loves us just as we are, no matter how sinful and rebellious we choose to be! Clearly, God is not deceived by our twisting of Scripture: Nothing unclean may come into it: no one who does what is loathsome or false, but only those who are listed in the Lamb's book of life. (Revelation 21:27) ...twins... the passage you are referring to is about Esau, the first-born, and Jacob, the twin sons of Isaac... This election (the younger brother over the older) is found in Genesis 25:21-34; 27:6-40 and, as reference to Genesis', Malachi 1:2-3 and Romans 9:13... what we are taught by the election of Jacob (as with Ephraim, the younger twin brother of Manesseh--sons of Joseph) is that it is God who accomplishes His Plan--though He utilizes us as a medium to bring His Plan into effect, His Plan is not dependent upon us (John 3:16; Luke 23:34; John 11:46-52)... Doyle, I urge you to rethink your stategy (life's choice); seek the Lord your God, make Him your friend and you will indeed be Loved by God! There are many on-line resources, including Bibles, that you can access from your computer--just drop a note if you want assistance; you can also contact me direct at jcrichtonfs1 at yahoo.com; you are welcome to continue to post your queries... you are not too far from Jesus, trust Him, He truly wants to be your Savior! 294 | Photo of King David | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 133333
Hi, BWH! The invention of photography did not occur till the early seventy hundreds: The Invention of Photography The necessary first breakthrough in photography was in a different, not eye-centered area--that of making permanent photographic images. Employing data from the researches of Johann Heinrich Schulze--who, in 1727, discovered that silver nitrate darkened upon exposure to light--Thomas Wedgwood and Sir Humphry Davy, early in the 19th cent., created what we now call photograms. These were made by placing assorted objects on paper soaked in silver nitrate and exposing them to sunlight. Those areas of the paper covered by the objects remained white; the rest blackened after exposure to the light. Davy and Wedgwood found no way of arresting the chemical action at this stage, however, and their images lasted only a short time before darkening entirely... (...for the complete article visit: www.bartleby.com, under Columbia Encyclopedia.) Any artistic rendering of Biblical scenes and personalities have not been conceived through the science/art of photography. God Bless! Angel |

295 | How can a person be righteous | Prov 28:9 | JCrichton | 133331
Hi, Noveta! There's nothing we can do on our own to become righteous: What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." (Romans 4:3) Though Abraham believed, it was God who found him righteous! This is the reason for the incarnation of the Word, the Lamb of God: remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. (Ephesians 2:13-22) So we are no longer to worry about the limitations of sin and the Law, in Christ Jesus we have free and clear access to God: Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 10:19-31) Jesus is our rightousness! God Bless! Angel |

296 | With any wealth can we enter heaven? | Mark 10:25 | JCrichton | 133314
Hi, tpadgett29! I do not believe that Jesus condemned the wealthy... rather, it is the love of money (materialism) that hinders our ability to serve Him: hence: it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for the wealthy to be saved! This of course those not automatically guarantee that the middle class and the destitute have an automatic "non-transferable-one-way-to-heaven" ticket! Nowadays, lust for material things can be found even on the very young (selfishness and consumption is the rule). Many people, including Christians, are living well beyond their means... when people place such extreme value on material things they are choosing to serve more than one God--one guess as to who they ultimately drop at the cash register! So be assured that it is not the amount of money that will keep us from Christ, it is our fellowship with materialism!: For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Timothy 6:10) God Bless! Angel |

297 | What did you mean by "others"? | 2 Cor 6:14 | JCrichton | 133312
Hi, Jo! Sharing His Glory... I am refering to the pagans who would worship anything as god... His Glory, Yahweh's Preeminance (governance) and exclusive Ownership of Israel, was not be shared by the pagan "gods." It is clearly stated that foreigners (non-Israelites) who chose to live among Israel and obey God's covenant with Israel (inclusive of, at that time, circumcision) were to be accepted as natural born Israelites with all the rights and obligations of the people of Israel--the separation was not due to ethnicity but to the manner of worship! 298 | should i be part of a ministry? | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 133264
Hi, 4 Christ! Are you asking if you must serve the Lord as a member of His Church? If that is your question... remember that it was Jesus who instituted the Church and that the Church is Christ's Body! Scripture speaks about that special relationship between Christ and the Church... how He is perfecting the Church (through the Holy Spirit) to make her the perfect bride! Sadly, due to so many egocentric love affairs Christians are rejecting Christ's Church... choosing instead some lone-ranger approach to God; that will never do! The Holy Spirit did not come to reveal the Truth and to distribute His Gifts so that we can burst the piñata, grab what we want, and run home with the goodies! (1 Corinthians 12:1-31) Offer yourself to Christ... humbly allow the Holy Spirit to use your talents to edify Christ's Church! God Bless! Angel |

300 | Spiritual dilemma | James 5:9 | JCrichton | 133105
Hi, Praise be to God! Not only are we commanded to love our neighbors, but we are commanded to love also our enemies! Basically there's nothing that a Christian can do that is not out of love! Yet knowing all Scripture that deals with love and patience does not limit our behavior in Christ. Paul tells us to search everything and to keep what is good... well, we know that what comes from God is good... so already you have a point of reference! Now, is this person continuing to preach to you, on an individual basis, trying to sway your spirit? In your exchanges, have you made known to him that you have a different opinion? Is his teaching wrong according to Scripture or is it just a "feeling" that you have? Are the differences based on interpretation of Scripture, practices based on Scripture, or are the differences diametrically opposed because he offers a Gospel that is not Christ's Gospel? What ever you do... be slow to speak, and slower even to anger (James 1:19); PRAY, constantly and continuously! Seek to keep a brother or sister in the mix so that your encounters do not become a test of wills (ego-centered); share your understandings of his offerings and do not just point out errors but seek to mend the raptures... always keep the Holy Bible as reference so that your communication does not abound on personal views or interpretations... God Bless! Angel |
