241 | Inherent desire to witness passages? | Luke 24:47 | JCrichton | 135516
Hi, w8ing! Not only is it an inherent desire, but it is a Command: and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Luke 24:47) Compare with: Matthew 5:14-16; 10:27; 24:14; 26:13; 28:19; Mark 3:14; 13:9-10; 16:15; Luke 9:2, 6, 60; 11:33; 12:3; 24:47; As far as a direct example of the change that comes to a Christian once he/she has truly accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior... here's Paul acknowledgement to Christians who experienced just that: You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia--your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead--Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath. (1 Thessalonians 1:6-10) God Bless! Angel |

243 | Can you help me teach a bible study? | 1 Thessalonians | JCrichton | 135388
Hi, basketball chick! Here's the breakdown on 1 Thessalonians 4: Paul speaks to the Christians and admonishes them to live in a manner pleasing to God: (1-2) Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. Paul reminds them that it is God's will that they (all Christians) refraim from satisfying the wickedness of the flesh; that Christians remain holy, serving God in the Spirit, controlling the impulses of the flesh; that Christians' behavior must be always in Jesus, without selfishness and guile, specially towards fellow Christians--and he warns that Jesus will punish the sinners. (3-8) It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit. Though Paul commends them in their charity and love towards the Brothers, he isists that they (all Christians) do more and more; taking into special consideration those who lack in society; he also calls them to be self-sufficient so that there is no need amongst them so that the gentiles (those of the world) would not rule them over any material needs that they may otherwise incur; yet, while promoting self-sufficiency, Paul calls them to aspire to a quiet life (a life devoid of extravagance), in Jesus! (9-12) Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more. Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. Paul visits the worries of the Believers who have lost loved ones... he assures them (all Christians) that those who die in Christ will be resurrected in Christ! Jesus is our Living Hope--in Him we will be born into a new existence, both the ones who have experienced physical death and those who are found still alive at His Second Coming! In this, our Faith in Jesus, he advises us to encourage one another... to assist each other in our Christian Life! (13-18) Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words. God Bless! Angel |

244 | Scripture? give up on someone. | Matt 18:17 | JCrichton | 135386
Hi, Flowerlady! Every time that we commit a sin, we sin both against God and the Church (Christianity)... Jesus is clear in his command of how to deal with the wayward sibling: "If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.' If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector. (Matthew 18:15-17) This of course does not make us judge and jury over others (Matthew 7:1-5; Luke 6:38-39)... we must evangelize and preach through example! (1 Corinthians 14:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:11) So when facing a situation where we find error in our brother/sister we must first go to that person in a humble and loving manner... some times people are being lead astray by Satan, who has convinced them that they are not doing anything wrong (Eve) or is blinding them with pride (rejecting God's Call to obedience and reform!), so our first task is to bring him/her back to the Fold (Jesus)--not by enabling him/her (don't worry it's OK...) but by offering loving counsel through our living example! (2 Timothy 3:16; James 1:19-22) God Bless! Angel |

245 | What makes Christianity right religion? | John 3:16 | JCrichton | 135377
Hi, Kathy! Christianity is the only religion that professes a God that died to save humanity! (Romans 5:6-10) Christianity is the only religion that offers life after death in God's plane of existence! (1 John 3:2) Christianity is the only religion where God cleanses the sin of his creatures making them His children! (Galatians 4:4-6) Christianity is the only religion whose God delivers promises through the prophets and the Holy Spirit! (2 Peter 1:20-21) Christianity is the only religion that professes equality amongst all! (Galatians 3:26-29) There are many other Scriptural passages... but I think that part of your task is to search them out! God Bless! Angel |

246 | Why bother to make requests when we pray | Eccl 7:17 | JCrichton | 135290
Hi, joy! There are many doctrines out there... it seems that some people love to feel security even more than listening to God's Word! We are the elect, in Jesus, not that our lives are written down to the nanosecond of our temporal existence... but that we are Saved in Jesus! We are made God's children, in Jesus. We have Life, in Jesus! Regardless of how many times people may tell you that we do not need to do things... or that we must do what they say... remember Jesus' Word: The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him." (John 3:35-36) It is our choice that condemns or liberates us, not God since God offers us Life in Jesus: "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. (John 12:47-49) So in keeping with Jesus' command to listen to the Word, here's what He says about praying: Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' "For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!' " And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:1-8) God Bless! Angel |

247 | texts about Jesus and outcasts | Matt 11:19 | JCrichton | 135289
Hi, revjlw! There are several Scripture passages that speak on this subject... I am listing three such passages: Matthew 9:10-13; Matthew 11:19; Luke 15:1-10... Now, we must understand that Jesus was never condoning the sinners' lifestyles... He was very specific about His cause (John 3:17; John 12:47)... it is God's desire that all shall repent, become obedient to His Will and receive Life (John 3:16). Jesus' concern is not to become a "friend" (enabler) to sin and sinners... His deepest desire is that we come to Him and regenerate ourselves into new creatures that humbly love and obey God's Will--as in the case of Zacheus (Luke 19:1-10) that upon receiving Christ's News made the commitment to amend his ways and joyously serve Jesus! God Bless! Angel |

248 | Why does God allow Sin? | Gen 3:15 | JCrichton | 135287
Hi, aust! In Genesis 3:15, we find Satan being destroyed by Jesus... this is the sentence given to him by God. In Revelation 12 we find an expansion on Genesis 3:15... I doubt that anyone can give you a clear and correct answer to your query... other than that God's Way is not our ways! I can offer two explanations: 1) God's Plan includes the struggle of His creation against evil (as in Job--how he would awake and make offerings to God for anything that he may have done in his dreams, as well as his offerings for his children)... God desires our love and obedience--Satan's challange is defeated every time we obey the Lord and serve only Him! 2. Since God knows no limits (time constraints, etc.) to Him 1000 years is but an insignificant fraction of time... and vice versa! (2 Peter 3:8) ...so, as in Jesus' parables (Matthew 13:24-30 and Luke 13:6-9), the wicked is allowed to coexist with the good till the fullness of times when all wickedness will be eradicated completely: from our perspective it's been years and counting... from God's perspective, Satan has already been condemned! Again, I am piecing together your thoughts with Scripture... there is no clear revelation of God's Intimate Design--only the Holy Spirit can truly reveal all Truth! God Bless! Angel |

250 | Sacrifices, why is God so picky? | Gen 4:4 | JCrichton | 135140
Hi, aust! It is very simple: God demands according to His Will--if we obey, if we submit our wills to His, we are rewarded with His Love! Genesis 4:3-7 depicts the first worship relationship between God and His servants... one (Cain) desires to serve according to his whims and his offering does not please God... the other (Abel) desires to serve with best of intentions and his perfect offering pleases God. Being a God of Love and Mercy, He does not reject Cain, only his offering... and He challenges Cain to make his offerings pleasing to Him so that He may reward him... sadly, Cain resorts to murdering his brother in order to suppress the competition--his offering will remain just as unfit as his heart... which will only continue to evoke God's rejection! There are many who confuse God's Love and Mercy with their aspirations of self-rule... yet, it is God who dictates to His creatures; the creatures cannot dictate to their Creator! God Bless! Angel |

251 | What did Jesus mean? | John 12:27 | JCrichton | 135138
Hi, younglos! Jesus Christ, the Word, became incarnate to rescue man from sin (Romans 6:23)... when John the Baptist introduces Him to those about him, he rightfully calls Him the Lamb of God (John 1:29); in Jesus Christ God is redeeming the world, Jesus is the Suffering Servant who takes onto Himself the sins of the world (Isaiah 52:13 thru 53:12); Jesus, while explaining to His disciples this relationship that He shares with the world, alluded to Moses' serpent (John 3:14-21)... We know that God is Light and in Him there is no darkness (1 John 1:5), and we know that God is Spirit (John 4:24) and that Jesus is Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:17); but, as the Lamb of God, Jesus is also a Man (John 1:1, 14)--the Lamb of God that came to offer His Life for the ramson of many (Matthew 20:28)--must be separated from the Father for the very first time of their existence (John 16:32)... so, since God and Jesus are Spirit they can exist beyond our comprehension (Omnicience, Omnipotence, Omnipresence), but because God is Light and no darkness (sin/unrighteousness) can exist in Him, Jesus, when taking on the sin of the world, would be separated or forsaken by the Father for an instant (micro-nanosecond or even smaller!--remember that to God time is inconsequential: 2 Peter 3:8)... clearly Jesus was never rejected by the Father at any particular time... His separation from the Father was as consequence of the purging of our sin! God Bless! Angel |

253 | Rape, Circumcission, Slaughter. | Gen 34:31 | JCrichton | 135041
Hi, Just Read Mark! Have you noticed how hollow wood (my term for the entertainment industry) has always managed to romanticize every sort of perversion (violence --specially murder and rape, racism, adultery, drugs--inclusive of alcohol and tobacco products, prostitution, homosexuality, materialism, power (physical, political, financial)... there are cultures (groups of people) in the US and internationally that actually live by those standards! Back then, as now, no man has the right to force himself on a woman--specially when he loves/lusts after her beauty! Though we have only partial information on Dinah's rape, it is clearly understood that she was taken while in the company of other women, women who were subject of Shechem and would hold allegiance to him rather than to a stranger, and that after the rape she was not in high spirits--having had consensual sex with a prince, no doubt he would have bragged about his position, it would be logical for a woman of such morals to be content (specially after his attempt to woo her after the fact). "It seems that Shechem has significant love for Dinah" ...this kind of love the world could do without... isn't that the excuse many wife/girlfriend beaters use for the harm (both physical and mental) that they cause their "loved" ones? Love protects and cherishes... it never abuses and injures! "Or should it be seen as going against their word (the agreement that Dinah could marry Shechem if the males were circumsized)" Genesis 34:13 clearly states that they answered "deceitfully." This means that they had not intention in contracting any accords with the man who raped their sister nor with his people! Remember the Trojan Horse? Shechem and his people had declared war on Jacob and his children--one family against a whole city... they needed an edge! "political rather than moral reasons" Jacob did not sanction his sons for taking revenge upon those who assaulted his daughter... not just then! In the heat of the moment (Genesis 34:5), when he was first informed, it seems that he does not even mind that his daughter was raped! Prudence! What could an old man do against two or more men? Jacob waited patiently for his sons to return to his side and then he presented to them the situation! Now, we know that only two of his sons committed the carnage (Levi and Simeon, Genesis 34:25)... these same two sons are given blessings reflecting their bloodshed! (Genesis 49:5-8) "When I see the intensity of Shechem's offer to do anything to marry Dinah, I can't help thinking there was an opportunity for grace in a way that would glorify God." I know that your words are well intended... but you must remember the situation and the Covenant under which Jacob and his sons lived (eye for an eye...). They were commanded by Yahweh Himself not to intermarry with pagans; they considered themselves to be of chaste and pure intent while the pagans were clearly not interested in worshipping their God but opportunistically forming a bond that would give them access to women they considred desirable; further, we must also take into account the consequences of doing nothing: this rape set the tone for their (the very few) status among the foreigners (the many)--they would be seen as excellent targets by all who wheeled power or money! One question: Would the desire/love not have been more evident if Shechem would have spoken to his father to make the necessary negotiations to secure Dinah as his wife, rather than to rape her and then offer her power and wealth, if she would consent to be his wife? God Bless! Angel |

255 | Father of cain is? | Gen 4:1 | JCrichton | 134975
Hi, Seadoo127! I can understand your confusion as 1 John 3:12 makes a similar reference: 1 John 3:12 Worldwide English (New Testament) (WE) We must not be like Cain. He was a child of the devil and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? He killed him because the things he himself did were wrong, and the things his brother did were right with God. Not all translations have the same wording... most simply say that he was of the evil one... Which ever the wording, the meaning that is being conveyed is that Cain acted with malice both in the gift offerings to God and on the murderous betrayal of his brother--hence, he is the son of Satan, the ultimate murderer and liar! God Bless! Angel |

256 | when Jesus returns | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 134974
Hi, L. Smith! I think that what you are referring to is a composite of three Scriptural passages: He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it. (Revelation 2:17) "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ (Matthew 7:21-23) "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. "Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.‘ "Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ "The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ "Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ "They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ "He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." (Matthew 25:31-46) God Bless! Angel |

257 | When was the book of Revelation written? | Rev 1:9 | JCrichton | 134973
Hi, Kalos! "Its date is generally estimated as A.D. 95, but there are some who believe that parts, at least, were composed as early as Nero's time, shortly before A.D. 70." (The Jerusalem Bible--French Edition, 1975) God Bless! Angel |

258 | need explaination to parable in Mark 12 | Mark 12:9 | JCrichton | 134971
Hi, sub! In the Old Testament we learn that God has separated a portion (remnant) of Israel onto Himself and that Israel whom He once called "my people" will be called "not my people" and that those who were once called "not my people" will be called "my people..." Jesus is speaking on that particular occurance! Israel is foretold through the prophets that the Son of God will come to them, and, true to Scripture, they rejected Jesus, aprehended Him, and put Him to death! The Apostles began their preaching in Israel (the people of Israel), ended up being persecuted and ran out of their Jewish communities; hence, they began to preach to the gentiles from whom they made "the new people of God." Compare with John 1:1-14 and Romans 9:1 through 11:32. God Bless! Angel |

260 | What happens to the Spirit (Soul) when a | 2 Cor 5:8 | JCrichton | 134853
Hi, Cooper! I think that part of the problem is that we (our human nature), demand clear cut answers to all of God's mysteries... When we read Scripture we find that there are those who have become citizens of Heaven (Enoch, Elijah, Moses, the thief on the cross, etc.)... yet, Scripture still speaks of the Coming of Christ where all, the living and the dead will be changed in an instant and be carried off; even Jesus did not clarify the Resurrection enigma when Martha offered that Lazarus will raise at the last day (John 11:23-26--specifically verse 24). If it was a simple clear-cut-case, Jesus could have corrected Martha and told her that she was wrong, that people will go to heaven at the very instant that their corporial existence is terminated! But Jesus did no such thing. Another part of the conundrum is found in Revelation 20:4-15, where it speaks of a mass resurrection of those who were servants of Christ (first resurrection) and those who rejected Christ (second resurrection); clearly for this particular scene to take place our resurrection cannot take the form of an individual event at the instant of the death of the Christian's corporial body... if it were so, then Revelation 20 would repeat itself continously throughout time. So, do holy people of God join Him in Heaven, immediatelly after their physical death? Yes! Is there an appointed time where there will be a mass resurrection of God's holy people? Yes! These two statements are not contradictory... it is God who determines who is called to Heaven inmediately after the physical body dies; it is God who has determined that there will be a mass resurrection for all those not called previously to heaven and for all those who rejected Christ: Salvation! God Bless! Angel |
