21 | Anti Christ? Is America Babylon or Iraq? | Daniel | Greg Martin | 73882
Some say Rome was an extension of Babylon and hence Europe, and hence the United states. This by culture and migration and some other such things. I personally believe Babylon is Babylon and if you look at the looming action to come down on the dictator of Babylon, one might surmise a democracy taking his place. this could lead to wealth and Babylon becoming a world economic power. I have a problem with democracy. The United States was never meant to be, nor has it ever been, a democracy. The US is a Federalist Republic. The Founders wrote wisely on the tyranny of mob rule. Democracy is a humanist invention that overrules the inalienable God given rights. In a democracy, majority rules. So abortion can be voted legal. All the whites could vote for all the blacks to be slaves, etc, etc. Majority rule is mob rule and has little regard for things holy, or given by God. It violates the supremacy of God and puts man in His place. We used to think the one-world government would be a tyranny of a dictatorship. But I can see now it is more likely to be a tyranny of democracy! This is both fitting and ironic. Fitting in that man sets himself higher than God, and ushers in the antiChrist. It has always been Satan's goal to get man to commit the same sin as he did - to attempt to overthrow God and put himself in His place. Ironic in that man will vote himself into Hell! Anyway, I can see Babylon becoming a marvelous "triumph of democracy", becoming an international, global, economic power; all set for the end times. |

22 | what was the angel talking about | Zech 4:6 | Greg Martin | 34238
This is the Angel of the Lord speaking to Zechariah. They are words to Zerubbabel to go ahead with the building of the temple in Jerusalem. This will be done not by might nor power (of men or nations) but by the Spirit of God. In other words, Do not worry about it or have doubts about it. God himself will build it, and who or what can stop Him? Also, some say anywhere in the OT where the title "Angel of the Lord" appears, it is a title of the pre-incarnate Christ. Hence the seven lampstands as in Revelation, refers to the NT Church. Certainly, "And he shall bring forth the capstone With shouts of "Grace, grace to it!"" the Capstone is Christ, Psalm 118 21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. 22 The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; 23 the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. From the house of the LORD we bless you. Capstone to what? Matt 21:42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes? 43 "Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit." The Church. How was the Church built? By the Spirit. this entire vision is not only a word to build the Temple, but a forshadowing of the Church. It really is more a prophesy of Christ than of the Temple. |

23 | John 2, 1-11water into wine was it Juice | Luke 7:34 | Greg Martin | 41798
Luke 7:33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, "He has a demon.' 34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, "Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Jesus drank wine. 1 Timothy 5:23 No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities. The Bible tells us wine is healthy and to drink a little bit. The Pilgrims drank beer because they thought it to be more healthy than water. George Washington's favorite brew was made with pumpkin. Today we know that wine is healthy in small doses. Medical science shows it to clean the arteries and prevent heart attack and stoke. The Bible tells us that wine is good "for your infirmities" 2000 years ago. Who is more advanced? |

"Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard" Can you get drunk on grape juice? |

25 | Why do we do communion? | Luke 22:19 | Greg Martin | 35619
Yes it commemorates the Last Supper. We do it because our Lord said "Do this in remembrance of me" Luke 22:19
26 | communion bring what to our minds? | Luke 22:19 | Greg Martin | 35622
But also, Not only do we look back at His sacrifice, but we look forward to eating it with Him in our Father's Kingdom. Matthew 26:29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom." |

27 | Was Israel saved, or not? | John 6:49 | Greg Martin | 34993
No. Israel rejected Christ, so blindness in part has happened to Israel untill the fullness of the gentiles has come in. Rev 7 shows the 144,000 sealed on earth, before the white robed multitude from the tribulation are seen standing before the throne. This part I can answer with certainty. Now, Paul says all Israel will be saved. John writes 144,000. So here's the followup question Is all Israel saved or only those to whom the blindness is removed? Rom 11:7 What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded. Rom 11:25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written "The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; 27 For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins." Rev 7:4 And I heard the number of those who were sealed. One hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel were sealed: To reconcile the two, one could assume that "all Israel" means the entirety of the nation, 12,000 from each tribe, 144,000 in all. So not every one but from the entire nation. These will be those who recognize the Messiah has come and is come again. |

28 | O.T. Israel salvation? | John 6:49 | Greg Martin | 36554
No one can lose their salvation. But not all church goers are Christians. Those who were saved out of Israel of the OT believed in Christ. They looked forward to the promise. We look back to the fulfillment. Cain went through all the motions and did what was required. His sacrifice was not accepted because his heart was wrong. He did what was required; he did not love what was required. Being "saved" from oppression is not the same as being saved. |

29 | Did the disciples have a choice? | John 15:16 | Greg Martin | 37898
My own reply - Jonah 1:1 Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me." 3 But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. I think this is the best example of a direct spoken command by God being disobeyed. To those who enjoyed this thread, I say thanks for the discussion. To those to whom this was just another "us vs them" I say sorry I stirred up a hornets nest for you. (but too bad, so sad!) |

30 | How did JESUS really die? | John 19:30 | Greg Martin | 45744
John 19:30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 10:17 "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father." |

32 | AA agnostic wants practical proof of God | Rom 10:17 | Greg Martin | 37955
Your job is not to save anyone. Your job is to preach the Gospel. The Spirit witnesses to Christ and Christ honors the Father. God saves men. You can not.
33 | Can you lose your salvation? | Eph 2:8 | Greg Martin | 34054
John 10:27My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.
34 | Muselim Religious | Eph 2:8 | Greg Martin | 34058
So much to say, so little time to say it. I can't answer as to the reason, but only that we have been told that in the end times there will appear the unholy spirit, the unholy son of the unholy father, and the unholy father. Now the unholy spirit, we think, is not Islam, but an amalgamation of religions that has "a little something for everyone" and nothing for God. This, we think, has to happen because "all the world" will worship the beast. (Although this can just as easily happen through the power of the beast and his image. Christians - the salt and light - will be gone.) In order for the amalgam religion to take place, the Western world has to raise the stature of the lesser (in the West) religions. We have seen this happen in recent months. We see in California students are being forced to act as if they were muslim and recite from the Koran and pray to Allah. We have seen our President call this brutal demonic religion "a religion of peace". This is a big falsehood. Islam means submission (TO THE LAW) not peace. The acceptance of Islam as a "viable" religion will lead to it having equality or even prominance as a religion, thereby making it easy to blend all the religions. Also, the "church" has to give up it's claim of exclusivity. Many liberal "churches" already deny the deity of Christ. So as "churches" give up their exclusivity claim, and the other religions rise to prominance, the combination of all religions becomes an easy step. *This theory of the amalgam religion can not be proven and can only be speculation* But we know for certain there will be an appearance of the unholy trinity. This amalgam religion is a possibility of what may happen and not a certainty (Have I emphasized the disclaimers enough? Revelation is dead on True and reliable. It is our interpretations and spculations that are uncertain) Now concerning these statement of works vs grace, I liken it to your neighbor having a fence. Now this fence has incredible workmanship and design. One day as you are pulling out of your driveway you back into the fence and destroy it. The owner comes out and insists that you owe him a fence exactly as it was before. You know that the law is on his side and that he is right. So you hire several contractors to come out and look at the fence, but none of them can make a bid because they can't do the workmanship, and they can't even determine the material it is made from. So you go out and buy some wood and get up one morning and slap together a fence. You work all day, very hard. But the fence is made of wood instead of the material unknown by man, and there are no intricate carvings, and the spacing is uneven, and it is an unprofessional job. But because you worked hard on it all day, you go to your neighbors door and pound on it, demanding that he let you into his house and feed you supper because you worked hard on his fence so he owes you. In contrast, grace is like the same fence being destroyed, and no one can rebuild it, but instead of getting up one morning to buy wood and build the fence, you look out your window and see your other neighbor from across the street is out there building the fence for you. When he finishes it is perfect. It is exactly as it was before, made from the same material unknown by man, complete with detailed and intricate carvings. You no longer owe your neighbor a fence, and the price is that your neighbor from across the street, who built the fence for you, insists that for payment you come to His house and let Him feed you supper. |

35 | Is it okay to drink alcohol? | 1 Tim 5:23 | Greg Martin | 36007
Not only does the Bible not prohibit alcohol, but true to being the Truth and above all human knowledge, it correctly states the health benefits of small doses of alcohol. 1 Timothy 5:23 No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities. Today we know that a small amount of red wine clears the arteries and can prevent heart attack and stroke. Also note that John 2:1-9 tells the story of Jesus changing the water into wine. Would the man without sin change water into wine if it was a sin? That Jesus would aid someone to sin is preposterous. 10 And he said to him, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!" Caution! Romans 14:21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak. 1 Cor 8:9 But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak. Thus it is probably best to abstain in public and in company. However, be sure to be accountable! That is have a trusted Christian spouse, friend, etc who will make sure there is no abuse. It's probably too bad we don't use real wine for communion in American Churches today. To make a small amount as part of a Holy ceremony, would probably do good for the health of many, and help eliminate the risk of this addictive drug. |

36 | Do I need to go to church | Hebrews | Greg Martin | 48695
No. You don't need to go to church. You need to go to a Bible believing, Gospel preaching, by the blood of Christ Church.
37 | Any biblical answers to Mormon beliefs? | 1 John 4:1 | Greg Martin | 35214
Ask them about the Trinity. Is Jesus God? If not then Isaiah was a liar and hence a false prophet. Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a *Son* is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, *Mighty God*, *Everlasting Father*, Prince of Peace. Now I've heard them answer that Isaiah says "Like a Mighty God" but they have no answer for "Everlasting Father", except to say, well it's a praise of God the Father because of the Son. But this can't be because the next title is "Prince of Peace". God the Father is not the *prince* of anything. He is Almighty God, The Creator. Then what about John 20:28, 29. 28Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" 29Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." If Jesus was not his God, why didn't He rebuke Thomas for blasphemy? |

38 | U.S.A. in Bible Prophesy? | Revelation | Greg Martin | 36393
Too much speculation in these refs. Consider this. what if God didn't want people to know about this continent? What if God didn't want anyone to find this land until it was His timing? Revelation 10:4 Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them." 7 thunders, 7 continents. Would this have given us away? Is that why John was not to write it? |

39 | The Rapture in Revelation | Revelation | Greg Martin | 36395
My 2c added in here... Rev 5:2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?" 3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. 4So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. No one in heaven. No one on earth. No one under the earth. 5But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals." 6And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. If No one in heaven, on earth or under the earth was found, where did the Lamb come from? Not in heaven. Not on earth. Not under the earth. then where? In the clouds, bringing up His Church? |

40 | muslims - 144,000? | Revelation | Greg Martin | 36396
I've always wondered, Isa. Please take no offense, none is meant. Why do Muslims not like the Jews? Are you not half brothers? Why do the sons of Abraham kill each other? PS: You may be interested to know the Bible says Gen 16:7 The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. 9 Then the angel of the Lord told her, "Go back to your mistress and submit to her." 10 The angel added, "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count." 11 The angel of the Lord also said to her: "You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery. 12 He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers." And did you know that many belive the "Angel of the Lord" is the preincarnate Christ? |
