Salt.. For related verses see also Ezekiel 28:11-19. Although ostensibly addressed to the king of Tyre, this seems even more appropriately applied to Satan, the Prince of this world and therefore also Tyre. This is also interpreted as a depiction of the fall of man. See also Isiah 27:1 for his final end. And Ezekiel 32:2 and Psalm 74:13-14. Emmaus |

mph, Ultimately, Lucifer was cast down by the power of God, although the Archangel Michael may have been the agent of that power. Rev 12:7 And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, Rev 12:8 and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Ray, "The reaping of the harvest symbolizes the gathering of the elect in the final judgment, while the reaping and treading of the grapes symbolizes the doom of the ungodly (cf Joel 3:12-13; Isaiah 63:1-6) that will come in Rev 19:11-21." Footnote from the NAB Bible on Rev 14:14-20. See also the similar description of Christ in other places as one "looking like the Son of Man", especially Rev 1:7 and Daniel 7:13 and Acts 7:56. 2210 | Should Christians remain silent on these | Rev 17:5 | Emmaus | 64536
PastorGlenn, It is situations like this in the filed of bioetthics that argue strongly for the need of an authoritative teaching voice for the Church. These matters are not addressed in scripture, but scripture can give the proper frame of reference for determining the morality of various actions. I know that the Catholic Church has strong formal opinions and teachings in this area. There are also Evangelicals making their positions known, but they have no binding authority on members of the various Evangelical churches. Emmaus |

2211 | one world government (Revel.)? | Rev 17:18 | Emmaus | 99401
Marina, The opinions of Ezekiel, Lastday and Candy Lee notwithstanding, the Pope / Vatican has not been successful even getting the EU to include a mention of Europe's Christian history and heritage into the Constitution they are drafting. It seems very unlikely that the Pope, this one or the next, or the Vatican will be leading a One World Government anytime soon. If the EU does become a One World Government it won't be following the Pope. Without the boogey man of the Pope these people might have to consider the other 95 percent of the Bible and what it has to say about living the Christian life today in their own lives. Emmaus |

2213 | What consitutes a "righteous act?" | Rev 19:8 | Emmaus | 124011
Mommapbs, We are righteous only in Jesus and only acts doen in Him are righteous acts. His obedience was the righteous act that makes us righteous in Him. "615 "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man's obedience many will be made righteous." (Rom 5:19) By his obedience unto death, Jesus accomplished the substitution of the suffering Servant, who "makes himself an offering for sin", when "he bore the sin of many", and who "shall make many to be accounted righteous", for "he shall bear their iniquities".(Isa 53:10-12) Jesus atoned for our faults and made satisfaction for our sins to the Father." http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p122a4p2.htm#615 "2025 We can have merit in God's sight only because of God's free plan to associate man with the work of his grace. Merit is to be ascribed in the first place to the grace of God, and secondly to man's collaboration. Man's merit is due to God. " http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p3s1c3a2.htm#202 Emmaus |

2217 | Is Jerusalem the wife of the Lamb? | Rev 21:9 | Emmaus | 144480
The Church is the New Jerusalem. When we become members of the Church, we become citizens of the heavenly Jerusalem. Through our worship, prayers, and works in Christ we participate in the heavenly life. Similarly we refer to "Church" simultaneously as the structure and the people who are in the structure. So it is with the Bride, the Church, the New Jerusalem Phil 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; Emmaus |

2218 | Who or what is the Bride of Christ? | Rev 21:10 | Emmaus | 119904
" The Church is the Bride of Christ 796 The unity of Christ and the Church, head and members of one Body, also implies the distinction of the two within a personal relationship. This aspect is often expressed by the image of bridegroom and bride. The theme of Christ as Bridegroom of the Church was prepared for by the prophets and announced by John the Baptist.234 The Lord referred to himself as the "bridegroom."235 The Apostle speaks of the whole Church and of each of the faithful, members of his Body, as a bride "betrothed" to Christ the Lord so as to become but one spirit with him.236 The Church is the spotless bride of the spotless Lamb.237 "Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her."238 He has joined her with himself in an everlasting covenant and never stops caring for her as for his own body:239 This is the whole Christ, head and body, one formed from many . . . whether the head or members speak, it is Christ who speaks. He speaks in his role as the head (ex persona capitis) and in his role as body (ex persona corporis). What does this mean? "The two will become one flesh. This is a great mystery, and I am applying it to Christ and the Church."240 And the Lord himself says in the Gospel: "So they are no longer two, but one flesh."241 They are, in fact, two different persons, yet they are one in the conjugal union, . . . as head, he calls himself the bridegroom, as body, he calls himself "bride."242 234 Jn 3:29. 235 Mk 2:19. 236 Cf. 2219 | Who or what is the Bride of Christ? | Rev 21:10 | Emmaus | 119905
"756 "Often, too, the Church is called the building of God. The Lord compared himself to the stone which the builders rejected, but which was made into the corner-stone. On this foundation the Church is built by the apostles and from it the Church receives solidity and unity. This edifice has many names to describe it: the house of God in which his family dwells; the household of God in the Spirit; the dwelling-place of God among men; and, especially, the holy temple. This temple, symbolized in places of worship built out of stone, is praised by the Fathers and, not without reason, is compared in the liturgy to the Holy City, the New Jerusalem. As living stones we here on earth are built into it. It is this holy city that is seen by John as it comes down out of heaven from God when the world is made anew, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.(148 LG 6; Cf. 1 Cor 3:9; Mt 21:42 and parallels; Acts 4:11; 1 Pet 2:7; Ps 118:22; 1 Cor 3:11; 1 Tim 3:15; Eph 2:19-22; Rev 21:3; 1 Pet 2:5; Rev 21:1-2)." http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p123a9p1.htm#756 The Catechism Emmaus |

2220 | Whose Name is on #12 | Rev 21:14 | Emmaus | 126312
Paul is an Apostle in that he is "one who is sent" by Jesus, who called him in an unusual and special way on the road to Damascus. But he did not meet the definition given in Acts 1:21-26, which says in verse 24 that the Lord would show which one He had chosen. Acts 1:21 "Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us-- Acts 1:22 beginning with the baptism of John until the day that He was taken up from us--one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection." Acts 1:23 So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias. Acts 1:24 And they prayed and said, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen Acts 1:25 to occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place." Acts 1:26 And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles. See also Peters authority in Matth 18:19 Matt 16:19 "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven." Paul is not a lesser Apostle, he simply was not on who had been with Jesus from the beginning of his ministry and so one who could give an eye witness account of what he had "seen and heard." Look for Matthias' name on the stone. Paul will not be upset. He understands. Emmaus |
