Those marked with the sign of the beast follow him wherever he goes, including into the pit. See also Rev 6:9-11. And see Rev 13:15-17 and Deuteronomy 13:2-4. Emmaus |

302 | Luke 4:16-19 | John 10:10 | Emmaus | 138783
Ema, Jesus did come to save and give us eternal life (John 10:10). But how we access that gift is through the Church which He established,(Matthew 16:18), which is the Body of Christ (Romans 5:1; 1 Cor 10:17; 1 Cor 12:27). Religion(that which binds together)is how the Church lives out its corporate mission as the Body of Christ and God's instrument of salvation in the world. Emmaus |

304 | What is sin? | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 138483
Sin is putting ourselves and our will before God and His will. It is idolatry in varying forms, usually some form of self-worship, however subtle. Sin is an abuse of the freedom that God gives to created persons so that they are capable of loving Him and loving one another. See the story of Adam and Eve in Genesis. We want to be God instead of being God's obedient creatures. |

309 | Can a person earn eternal life? | Rom 2:7 | Emmaus | 138354
Nathen, No. Faith itself is a gift of grace that allows us to be "those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory, honor and immortality, eternal life." If you look at James and Paul in full context it is clear that faith in Christ and works in Christ are inseparable if we are talking about a living saving faith. It is no accident that Paul opens and closes Romans with the phrase "the obedience of faith" Romans 1:5 and 16:26, which fits perfectly with Galatians 5:5 and James 2. It is not a matter of works adding to faith. Works in Christ are the physical embodiment and manifestation of faith in Christ, without which faith is dead. For human beings as created and as God intended us to be, the body and the spirit are an integrated unit. That is why our redemption is not complete until our bodies are resurrected at the Second Coming. It goes without saying that works in Christ are not the same thing as "works of the law" such as circumcision, which Paul is often speaking about in Romans. The "obedience of faith" is as different from the "works of the law" as are the commandments written on stone from the commandments written on our hearts. Paul's primary point about works was that what we do can not obligate God to save us. We can not make God do anything. God saves us because God loves us and because He wants to save us, not because we make Him obliged to save us.Our good works flow from our faith in God's love for us, God's love for us does not flow from our works. 311 | Matthew only book to start genealogy? | Matt 1:1 | Emmaus | 138352
Matthew was written prinmarilaly for Jewish Christians and potential Jewish believers in Christ. The geneology of Jesus as the Son of Abraham and Son of David establishes the credentials that Jesus is of the lineage of Abraham and David which the Messiah or Christ must be. This was extremely important to the Jews looking for the Messiah. Matthew 1:11 "The book of the geneology of Jesus, the Messiah (Christ, annointed)the son of David, the son of Abraham." |

315 | What does Pasdammim mean? | 1 Chr 11:13 | Emmaus | 138170
glomary, Pasdammim means "the extremity of Dammim" according to Crudens's Concordance. Strongs has: 6450 Pas Dammim (67c); from 6446 and 1818; "palm of blood," a place in Judah (the same as 658b):--Pasdammim(1). 1 Chronicles 11 10 These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel. 11 And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam, an Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time. 12 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties. 13 He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines. 14 And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORD saved them by a great deliverance. 316 | Filled with the holy spirit? | John 14:16 | Emmaus | 138143
Jessyka, I am taking the liberty of reposting someting written by Kalos, a long time member on the forum. what is baptized in the Holy Spirit Answer John 14:16 kalos Mon 04/2/01,1:04pm 1) Upon salvation we are baptized (placed) into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit(1 Cor 12:13). 2) Also, at the time of our salvation, we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:9). 3) We must realize that those first disciples did not receive the Holy Spirit until the Day of Pentecost, because the Holy Spirit had not yet been given. . . . 4) Pentecost was a one-time, never to be repeated event in the history of the church. Now there is no need to wait or tarry to receive the indwelling Holy Spirit. This was only true of the first (pre-Pentecost) disciples/believers. . . . What exactly happened at Pentecost?" "The disciples did not actually receive the Holy Spirit until the day of Pentecost." Acts 2:4 *filled with the Holy Spirit.* "In contrast to the baptism with the Spirit, which is the one-time act by which God places believers into His Body (1 Cor 12:13), the filling is a repeated reality of Spirit-controlled behavior that God commands believers to maintain. Peter and many others in Acts 2 were filled with the Spirit again (e.g., Acts 4:8,31; 6:5; 7:55) and so spoke boldly the Word of God. The fullness of the Spirit affects all areas of life, not just speaking boldy (compare Eph 5:19-33)" (p. 1635, MacArthur Study Bible, Word Publishing, 1997). . . . To be "filled with" the Spirit means to be "controlled and empowered by" the Spirit. . . . I might add that while all believers are indwelt by the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:9 "...Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His."), it is obvious that not all believers at all times are *filled* (controlled and empowered) by the Spirit. |

perrin, "what did Jesus Christ do as a mediator between man and God?" Rom 3:25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; Heb 2:17 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. 1 John 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
