2902 | How might this Scripture motivate us? | 2 Tim 4:1 | EdB | 98166
It movitates me to Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. [3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; [4] and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 2 Tim. 4:2-4 :-) EdB |

2903 | 'Reinvented' Gospel | 2 Tim 4:3 | EdB | 110182
New Creature I agree 100 percent. But let us also be fair while many pastors are making terrible decisions and watering down the Word the fact remains the congregation "can't handle the truth."(to borrow some words from the movie “A Few Good Men”). People don't want to hear the truth they want their ears tickled and that should surprise none of us. 2 Tim. 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; [4] and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. Think about it for a moment. We have allowed ministry to become a profession rather than a calling. These professional men are seeing their church decline because the people can't handle the truth. They see their careers dissolving, its the only profession they know, what are they do? They do just what we see happening they sell out. But before we lay all the blame on them remember it was the peoples desire not to hear the truth that partially started the whole cycle. I believe a lot of this happened because in our zeal to teach grace we have eliminated any personal responsibility of holiness. We as a society have almost written out responsibility. If we steal it is because the companies are making too much money anyhow. If we kill it is because of our misguided youth, or aggression caused by stress of living. If we divorce it is because we have come from separate backgrounds that eventually made it impossible to us to find common ground. If we abuse it is because we are victims of abuse. If we are drug dependant we have a disease. If we do anything bad it is because of something other than personal decision for which we could held responsible. However it is all us if it is good. As long as the people are satisfied with lies that is what the they will get. When people start hunting for the truth they can find it. God's truth still is taught by many faithful preachers of the Word. However in most cases these churches aren't the fastest growing with the most programs churches these are the little churches on the corneer that get passed every Sunday by the families that are hunting for the church that has something for everyone. Steve was a "passer through" I suspect and will probably not see this response. That and the fact RCSCROLL’s remarks is a little terse I will remove this from the question list. By the way I think Adam would be alive today also. See my response later in the thread for a question to you. |

2908 | how | Philem 1:1 | EdB | 119961
The word "imputation," according to the Scriptural usage, denotes an attributing of something to a person, or a charging of one with anything, or a setting of something to one's account. This takes place sometimes in a judicial manner, so that the thing imputed becomes a ground of reward or punishment. Now read Philemon and figure it out. EdB |

2910 | The author of Hebrews | Hebrews | EdB | 9917
Bobby W Another good question and one that has been discussed in the forum before you might want to do a search. There are many names given Paul, Barnabas, Luke Apollos, Silvanus (Silas), Phillip, Clement of Rome and even Priscilla. I like what the third century theologian Origen said, "Who it was that really wrote the Epistle, God only know." |

2911 | Can I trust this Pastor? | Hebrews | EdB | 16910
Jensen I basically agree with everything that was written in regards to your question. However I have a concern, if your questioning this man over this are you looking for problems? Or is there something else you have seen that is making you doubt him? The word says the sheep will hear their shepherd's voice, if your not hearing or don't trust this man then maybe you do need to look else where. If it is an issue of not trusting anyone then you need to get alone with God and settle that issue first. |

2912 | Where are you getting your information? | Hebrews | EdB | 17375
Kelkat The problems with their ministries have been well documented many places. One John MacArthur wrote a number of books about some of their bad teaching; Charismatic Chaos, Learn to Discern and others. Various apologetic groups have documented their teachings; Christian Research Institute and etc. There are also a number of web sites that you can find their quotes, mis-teachings, heresies, and misdirection. Another is Hank Hanegraaff’s two books “Christainity in Crisis” and “Counterfeit Revival”. Within these books the author not only documents what was said but provides date, times, places. If any of it had been false or untrue believe me he would have been sued to the hills, which he wasn’t. I have sat under most of those you mentioned and have heard their teachings and I have also heard their error. Other less bold men have clearly spoken of this erroneous teaching without mentioning the name of the individual that said it. Men like Dobson, Colson, Rogers and others. |

2913 | Can we agree? | Hebrews | EdB | 17387
Kelkat You said "God is the creator of all things. God created man and gave him dominion over the earth. Man sinned, and gave dominion to Satan. (don't get me wrong, God is all powerful. He can, at anytime, do what ever He will.) Jesus came earth, walked as a man with the Holy Spirit working through him." Where does it even hint that Satan got dominion of anything from man? God gave man dominion over the living creatures of earth (stay within context), have you ever noticed how all but the hungriest or injured of animals submit or yield to man? That is the dominion spoken of in Genesis. God owns the earth and all that is in it. Gen 13:17 Gen 14:19 Gen 31:9 Ex 9:29 Ex 13:2 Ex 13:12 Ex 19:5 Ex 22:30 Ex 34:19 Lev 25:23 Lev 27:26 Nu 18:6 Nu 18:12 Nu 33:53 De 10:14 Jos 6:2 Jos 6:19 Jos 6:24 1Ch 29:11 1Ch 29:14 Job 41:11 Ps 24:1 Ps 50:10 Ps 60:7 Ps 74:16 Ps 89:11 Ps 95:5 Ps 104:24 Ps 108:8 Ps 115:16 Je 27:5 Eze 29:3 Eze 29:9 Eze 29:20 Eze 36:5 Da 4:17 Joel 3:5 Hag 2:8 Mt 5:35 Mt 20:15 Mt 21:3 Mt 25:14 Lu 19:23 Lu 19:31 Ac 17:25 1Co 10:26 1Co 10:28 Satan can do nothing without permission from God. Read Job. Satan must report, apparently fairly regularly, to God and confess what he has been doing. Again read Job. Notice the way Satan answers when addressed by God, does that show you who is in control. Satan does not dominion of earth he has permission to do only what God allows him. This dominion teaching came from them and nothing in the Bible supports it. You are so use to hearing it you never questioned it. |

2914 | Hebrews 11:32 Who was sawed in two? | Hebrews | EdB | 24885
I was just reading in ISBE (Internation Standard Bible Encylopedia) that the Prophet Isaiah was by church tradition reported to have been sawn in half by King Manasseh. This was also reported also by Justin Martyr in 150 AD that Isaiah was sawn in half by a wooden saw. This tradition is further confirmed by a Jewish Apocalypse of the 2nd century AD, entitled, The Ascension of Isaiah, and by Epiphanius in his so-called Lives of the Prophets. Wow what a way to go. Fabz129 Hebrews was written to show the New Covenant is better than the Old, That Jesus was better than anything before Him. That Jesus’ sacrifice was better than the old, that Jesus’ was better that all Jewish ritual custom and traditions. The word better is used 13 times in the NKJV of the book. Since many of the ideas or themes of Hebrews flow over the chapter divides let me explain you Hebrews by idea or themes instead. This is taken from the Nelson New Open Bible Superiority of Christ over the prophets. vs 1:1-3 The Superiority of Christ over the Angels. Vs 1:4-2:18 The Superiority of Christ over Moses. Vs. 3:1-4:13 Superiority of Christ's Priesthood. Vs 4:14-7:28 Superiority of Christ's Covenant 8:1-13 Superiority of f Christ’s Sanctuary 9:1-10:18 Exhortation to Full Assurance of Faith 10:19-11:40 Chapter 11 is my favorite containing the Faith Hall of Fame, the definition of faith and many examples of what real faith is. Endurance of the Faith 12:1-29 An Exhortation to Love 13:1-17 Conclusion 13:18-25 I pray this isn't homework that you wanted done the easy way. EdB |

2917 | jesus was jewish what diff from christi | Hebrews | EdB | 226154
The difference is Jesus. The Jews that remain Jews are still waiting for their Messiah. The Christians have found their Messiah. The Book of Hebrews demonstrates that Jesus is the BETTER way. |

2918 | where does any book say that | Hebrews | EdB | 226165
Matthew 27:22-25 (NASB) 22 Pilate *said to them, "Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?" They all *said, "Crucify Him!" 23 And he said, "Why, what evil has He done?" But they kept shouting all the more, saying, "Crucify Him!" 24 When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this Man's blood; see to that yourselves." 25 And all the people said, "His blood shall be on us and on our children!" The definning difference between Christian and Jew is the fact that Christian's view Jesus Christ as the Messiah. Jews view Jesus as a prophet only. Therefore Jews only accept the Old Covenant made between God and Abraham, where Christians see the Old Covenant as being fulfilled by Jesus who gave us the New Covenant which is made between Himself and God. |

There has been a ton of discussion on the verses in Hebrews 6. Using the Bible text search box over to the right type in Hebrews 6:4 in the chapter and verse box at the bottom of the this box. When you get a list of verses select vers4 and click the "green" "N" icon to the left of the verse and you will see all the discussions on verse 4. Do the same thing for verse 5 and 6 and see if your answer isn't in there. |

Jario Quoting from Ps. 2:7 and 2 Sam. 7:14, the writer presents the unique relationship which the Son has with the Father. No angel ever experienced such a relationship. Son. A title of Christ expressing the voluntary submission of the Second Person of the Godhead to the First Person for the purpose of fulfilling the program of redemption established in eternity past Cf. vv. 2,8; 3:6; 4:14; 5:5,8; 6:6; 7:3,28; 10:29; 11:17 and many other references in the NT. His sonship was also expressed in the OT (cf. Ps. 2:12; Prov. 30:4). The word “today” indicates that God’s Son was born in a point of time. He was always God, but He fulfilled His role as Son in space and time at His incarnation and was affirmed as such by His resurrection (Rom. 1:4). MacArthur, J. J. (1997, c1997).
