2821 | Where do the go, Heaven or Hell | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 36663
Aryour Your right I left out a lot that I thought was assumed, sorry!!! First we are all sinners and destined to judgement. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. So without a savior we are lost. However we know there were righteous before Jesus Hebrews chapter 11 lists many. Using Abraham as an example the Bible says He was found righteous by his faith Genesis 15:6 Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. Romans 4:9 Is this blessing then on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say, "FAITH WAS CREDITED TO ABRAHAM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS." Romans 4:22 Therefore IT WAS ALSO CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS. Galatians 3:6 Even so Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS. James 2:23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God. In other words he was looking for the Messiah for his salvation. This is true with all the Old Testament saints, they realized they needed a savior. Read David’s psalms, or Solomon’s writings. Upon death since the access for Heaven hadn’t been established yet the dead went to a place called Hades. Hades was divided into two section Abraham’s bosom or paradise and a hot dry place. We see this described in Luke 19. The saints in Abraham’s bosom were waiting for the Messiah, Jesus to come and lead them to Heaven. Having seen the promise in Psalm 68:18. Jesus we are told in Eph. 4:8 fulfilled that. Today when a saint dies he goes directly into the presence of Jesus as Paul tells us in 2 Cor. 5:8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. However the hot dry place still exist for the unrighteous and is where they remain until the great white throne of judgement. I pray this has cleared this up for you without causing any more confusion. EdB |

2823 | what is the state of the dead in Christ? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 36270
Kudzai Paul tells us 2 Cor. 5:8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. When we died our spirits go to be with the Lord. However our bodies are buried. Upon the rapture which is referred to in 1 Thess 4:13-18 those bodies will rise incorruptible and joins with our spirits which are in the presence of Jesus and we will then live eternity in a immortal bodies. I simple terms when we die we go to be with Jesus but in spirit form after the rapture we will then receive immortal bodies. EdB |

2824 | if one doesn't hear the gospel is it hel | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 36268
Aryour People like Abraham and David that lived after the flood but before Jesus we are told were considered righteous not because of how they lived but rather because they believed God when He told them He would provide for their salvation. In other words they were looking for the Messiah to provide the forgiveness for their sins, they died believing in Jesus. In Luke 18:19 Jesus gave us a glimpse of what took place. Upon death all go to a place called hades (hell) however that place is divided into two sections. One hot and dry for the those that died in rebellion to God not believing or looking for the Messiah, and the other called Abraham’s bosom where the righteous (those looking for the promise of God) went. Ephesians 4:8 tells us what happened then. Jesus upon his death went to hades and preached the Good News to all those in Abraham’s Bosom and as in says in Ephes. 4:8 … "When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men." 2825 | Defense or offense? | Eph 6:10 | EdB | 36262
Momma You will not find scripture that says we are to take the offensive. The VICTORY has been given us in Christ Jesus, all we have to do is stand and believe. To me this is a problem with spiritual warfare we forget the battle has been fought the victory decided. Faith secures it! EdB |

2826 | Sisters' veiling/feet washing | OT general | EdB | 35996
Some of the Holiness churches do what I think your referring to as sister veiling. They require their women to have their heads covered in service. Many use lace or very thin linen hankies to accomplish this that come down over their faces. This is in response to 1 Cor. 11:5 But every woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head, for she is one and the same as the woman whose head is shaved. I would think many times it is done to prevent the young men from being distracted during service by a comely young woman :-). Also I think some of the Catholic orders still require the nuns to cover their face from time to time. As for foot washing it is done by many denominations as methods to bring about humbleness and piety. I have also seen it done as a form of reconciliation after a dispute (read church feud) has been settled. Unless you have been involved in a foot washing it is very hard to understand the blessings you receive both washing and by having your foot washed. EdB |

2827 | is rev speaking of america/pres.b sr,jr | Revelation | EdB | 35991
Zero First start thinking earth and stop thinking the America. We have a tendency to think the world revolves around the US but it doesn't. To the best of my knowledge America or the US is not mentioned in the Bible. George Bush Sr and Jr are not the antichrist neither are that smooth in public relations. The Anticrhist will seem like God's gift to man, but in fact he will be Satan's henchman in destruction. As Searcher56 has said this subject has been discussed and you may want to read what has been said before going on. Do some quick searches on Rev 13, Antichrist, beast, end times and you should find some very interesting threads you may want to add to. EdB |

2830 | what does 666 and 777 mean | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 35962
Y2J SwFl Numerologist take the number 6 as standing for man since man was created on the sixth day and because of Rev. 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six. They also take the number 7 to stand for completion or perfection since God seems to most every thing by the number 7. Many feel that 7 stands for God and since there is the trinity (Father Son and Holy Spirit) that the actual number is 777. Which brings us back to the Rev 13:18 and the number 666, many feel this shows the Antichrist as counterfeiter so he uses 666, which would be the Satan, Antichrist and the false prophet. However the Bible gives no real meaning to any of this and most of it is based on speculation related to Rev 13:18. Now we have been blessed on this forum by many that say they know the mark of the beast, but as yet none have revealed the answer in any explanation I could understand. EdB |

2833 | fortunetellers in the new testament?? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 35958
Y2J SwFl Yes fortune telling is talked about in the New Testament. Nave’s Topical Bible includes it with sorcery and lists. By Simon Magus. Acts 8:9; Acts 8:11 By Elymas. Acts 13:8 By the damsel at Philippi. Acts 16:16 By vagabond Jews. Acts 19:13 By sons of Sceva. Acts 19:14-15 Nave’s also lists Matt 24:24 and 2 Thes 2:9 as people involved in fortune telling. We see strong warning about being involved with in Gal 5:19-21 where it talks about forutne telling in the term sorcery. Galatians 5:19-21 “Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, [20] idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, [21] envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. “ The old testament give many cautions about fortune telling. All fortune telling is either a hoax or involves familiar spirits. Both of which involve deceit. EdB |

2834 | Joshua 5:10, what date is that? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 35911
No Compromise You ask a difficult question since the Bible doesn't give exact historical dates. Plus the fact that the Jewish calendar uses 360 day instead of 365 and the various other changes to the calendar the task of placing dates becomes daunting. However most scholars place the date of the Exodus as 1446 BC, since we know the children of Israel wandered in the desert for 40 years the date of Joshua 5:10 would be approximately 1406 BC. I hope this is what your looking for EdB |

Child of the King I commend you for your wisdom and the way you expressed it. Your right there are far more important topics to discuss. I think the proof that neither Calvin or Arminian had 100 percent correct is the endless debate that still persists. Great observation!!!!!!! two thumbs up!!! EdB |

2840 | Ideas: Marking the inductive study way? | 2 Chr 1:10 | EdB | 34922
John If I understand your question your having a hard time coming with symbols to identify words like Wisdom, Knowledge and 'all'. May I suggest using a lightbulb similar to Ford's better idea for wisdom. And open book for knowledge and a sphere with a crooked line dividing it showing it was united or completeness. If you look for a listing of international symbols (signage) and in some young children's idea and concept books you will find many figures that you can use in the your "inductive" study. If you get stumped just list the problems and I'll let you know what I use. EdB |
