4821 | What are the Sevenfold Spirits of God? | Rev 1:4 | DocTrinsograce | 196976
Hi spiritfire777, Welcome to the forum! It means the fullness and perfection of the Holy Spirit; illuminating (John 16:13; 1 Corinthians 2:10-13), quickening (John 3:8; Romans 8:11), convicting (John 16:8), purifying the godly (1 Peter 1:2), leading (Ezekiel 36:27; Galatians 5:18), and sealing the believer (John 3:33; 2 Corinthians 1:22). 4822 | 7 churches, 7 continents? | Rev 1:4 | DocTrinsograce | 199237
Hi, beenthere... Paul explicitly states the churches are in Asia (Revelation 1:4) -- what we know as Asia Minor. The individual churches are also explicitly listed in Revelation 1:11). Each of these churches are known to history in some detail. Therefore, the answer to your question would be no. In Him, Doc |

4824 | How will Jesus come back to earth? | Rev 1:7 | DocTrinsograce | 183379
Hi, ddethdan... He will come in His own glory, in the glory of the Father, and the glory of the holy angels (Luke 9:26). Any way you cut it, that's a whole lot of glory! :-) Remember, at His first appearing He came as Redeemer (John 3:17), at His second appearing He will come as Judge (Matthew 16:27, 25:31-46; John 5:22-27; Acts 10:42; 17:31; Romans 2:16; 14:9-11; 1 Corinthians 4:4-5; 2 Corinthians 5:9-10; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10; 1 Peter 4:5; Revelation 20:11-15). 4827 | Where in the bible does it say that Jesu | Rev 1:18 | DocTrinsograce | 147835
Hi, Smswann... There is no clear concensus on this subject in the forum. However, the phrase you used would necessarily come from two sources. The scripture cited above and Ephesians 4:9-10. (Note that some also connect 1 Peter 3:19.) In Him, Doc |

4828 | Did Jesus get the keys in person? | Rev 1:18 | DocTrinsograce | 177632
Dear Crusader11, This is a much discussed topic on the forum. You might try the search function. Note that often the Scripture uses figurative language. So it is in the use of the word "keys" in Revelation 1:18. It is unlikely that there are a literal set of keys. The Bible is written using terms common to the period in which any given passage was written. In Him, Doc |

4830 | Rev 2 angels: pastors or messengers? | Rev 2:1 | DocTrinsograce | 179751

4831 | the first love | Rev 2:4 | DocTrinsograce | 201154
Hi, blue eyes... Firstly -- and most importantly -- we need to get rid of the idea that our relationship with the Lord is based on how we feel. Imagine an infant adopted into a family. They had no say in the matter. Instead it was a legal process enacted through the courts between the ward of the child and the adopting parents. Now as the child gets older, does the feelings of that child ever enter in to their relationship with the family? In other words, on days that they are feeling more loving, are they more a child of the family than they are on days that they are feeling less loving? Not at all. Their feelings have nothing to do with it. Secondly, we need to recognize that Biblical love is much more than a matter of feelings. Love is always a matter of action. It can and should be expressed regardless of our feelings. For example, I show my love for you and the others reading this forum by responding as clearly and as soundly as possible in my posts. Sure, there are days that I have great feelings of compassion for every one of you. On the other hand, there are days that I am feeling something different, or I am even feeling compassion for some other group of people. Regardless, my love is made manifest in the very same way no matter how I am feeling. You see, God so loved the world that He DID something. It doesn't say God so loved the world that He FELT something. Love is always a matter of doing. Thirdly, we must understand the nature of our hearts. The human heart is the most deceitful thing in all of creation. Its ability to deceive exceeds even that of the Devil himself. As part of our salvation, we are fundamentally changed by God. Nevertheless, we continuously struggle with the old nature. We constantly create idols to worship. We are in constant need of being disciplined. Finally, we look at the instruction from the passage you've pointed out. What does Christ say is the remedy? Look at the first sentence in the verse that follows: "Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first" (Revelation 2:5a ESV). 1. Remember It is easy to forget where we started from, how wretched we were, and how great a work of God it took to save us. 2. Repent Repentance is often spoken of as an important aspect of salvation. However, it is also a regular discipline of believers, divinely empowered by the active work of the Holy Spirit Himself. 3. Repeat The gospel is, certainly, at the core of evangelism. It is the good news we proclaim to a lost and dying world. However, we forget that the gospel is also at the very center of our daily lives in Christ. One of my pastors used to say, "The gospel is not the ABC's of our faith, but the A through Z of our faith." The gospel is being worked out in our lives every single day. It will be the central theme of our praises in glory. So, just as we did at the very beginning, we must do every day: depend on God alone to save us. We cast our utter inability upon Him, for He is able to present us holy and blameless to Himself upon His return. We are buried in the likeness of Christ's death, now by the power of God, we live in the likeness of His life. In Him, Doc |

4832 | What was so wrong with the Epehsians | Rev 2:4 | DocTrinsograce | 209036
Hi, Kcabml4... The primary characteristic of a believer is His love for the Savior. It is a love that supersedes all things (Luke 14:33). This is our first or foremost love. The church of Ephesus is long gone. I do not believe that the area is even occupied today. In Him, Doc |

4833 | Where are the other churches | Rev 2:4 | DocTrinsograce | 209094
Hi, Kcabml4... I do not know the specific history of the church of Ephesus. Clearly, though, we may rightly surmise that God dealt with them as He said he would. In regard to the end times, the old Baptist divines said it this, "The end of God's appointing this day [judgment], is for the manifestation of the glory of His mercy, in the eternal salvation of the elect; and of His justice, in the eternal damnation of the reprobate, who are wicked and disobedient; for then shall the righteous go into everlasting life, and receive that fullness of joy and glory with everlasting rewards, in the presence of the Lord; but the wicked, who know not God, and obey not the gospel of Jesus Christ, shall be cast aside into everlasting torments, and punished with everlasting destruction, from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power. (Romans 9:22, 23; Matthew 25:21, 34; 2 Timothy 4:8; Matthew 25:46; Mark 9:48; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10) As Christ would have us to be certainly persuaded that there shall be a day of judgment, both to deter all men from sin, and for the greater consolation of the godly in their adversity, so will He have the day unknown to men, that they may shake off all carnal security, and be always watchful, because they know not at what hour the Lord will come, and may ever be prepared to say, 'Come Lord Jesus; come quickly. Amen.' (2 Corinthians 5:10, 11; 2 Thessalonians 1:5-7; Mark 13:35-37; Luke 12:35-40; Revelation 22:20)" (1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, chapter 32, paragraph 2 and 3). In Him, Doc |

Hi, Tim... You need some good reference material. Let me suggest John Gill, Albert Barnes, or -- if you like something a bit more contemporary -- John MacArthur. Check out what John Gill has to say on this passage. He'll give you a good idea about what is known of the Nicolaitans. http://eword.gospelcom.net/comments/revelation/gill/revelation2.htm In Him, Doc |

4835 | Who are the Nicolaitans | Rev 2:6 | DocTrinsograce | 166353
Hi bjma450, The exact identity of the Nicolaitans is uncertain. It is generally thought that they derived their name from the proselyte Nicolas of Antioch (Acts 6:5). They were an early variety of antinomian gnostics, claiming that Christian liberty included the liberty to sin, even licentiousness. Without naming them, Jude makes clear reference to them. Hi, Matilda... Welcome to the forum! The Nicolaitans were a group of people who taught antinomianism, perhaps something close to what we would think of as libertinism. It was named after its founder, a deacon in Jerusalem. In Him, Doc |

4839 | What were the deeds of nicholaitan rev2 | Rev 2:6 | DocTrinsograce | 239503
Hi, Matilda... Behavior arises out of doctrine. Or perhaps a better way of saying it is that behavior reflects what we believe. The Nicholaitans were antinomian. Their behavior then reflected their belief that the law was not binding to them. Consequently, they did whatever they felt like doing. You might look up the word libertine to see later manifestations of this false teaching. In Him, Doc |

4840 | Rev 2 17 When do we get our stone | Rev 2:17 | DocTrinsograce | 154461
Hi, Richard... None of the commentators I checked see this as a literal stone. Rather, there seems a concensus that it is speaking of granting the overcomer (i.e., true believer) with a token of Christ's favor. There are a variety of possibilities here, but none that I find conclusive. In Him, Doc |
