4801 | seven churches | Revelation | DocTrinsograce | 218063
Dear Makus, I forget how to type the Ewe greeting, but I regularly say it to a friend from Ghana with whom I work: "Ah fwah?" (Oddly enough, I do not know how to greet someone in French.) In messages like we have in Revelation to the seven churches, we do not interpret them as symbolic. Instead, we try to understand the message that was given to them in their own cultural context. Once we understand that, we are able to find many contemporary applications. In Him, Doc |

Hi, Archerx... The last book of the Bible, called "Revelation of Saint John the Divine (theologian)" was written in the first century (sometime from 68 AD to 95 AD) by the apostle John. He also authored the gospel of John and three epistles. In Him, Doc |

Dear puppytoes, The answer to that would depend on a person's eschatological persuasion. There are many Godly people who do not believe that the thousand year reign of Christ is a literal, future event. In Him, Doc |

Hi, word up... Welcome to the forum! The "seven churches of Asia" is referring to seven Christian congregations of the first century, in the Roman province called Asia. They were in the cities Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. In Him, Doc |

4805 | non believers and wrong believers | Revelation | DocTrinsograce | 234718
Dear jadams, I do not what the "shepards chapell" (sic) might be. Perhaps your church? The lake of fire will be the final destination of the fallen angels and the resurrected lost. The Scripture says, "Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire." (Revelation 20:14-15 NASB) In Him, Doc |

4807 | # of words in the book of Revelation | Revelation | DocTrinsograce | 238323
Hi, Bob and Anne... I do not find on the Internet anywhere that word counts are given for the NASB. However, E-Sword has a text analysis option. You could put in the reference from Revelation 1:1-22:21 and ask for the analysis. It will give you word occurrence counts. You could then total them up for yourself. Why would you be interested in translated word counts for a book of the Bible? In Him, Doc |

Hi, awesome73... Welcome to the forum! I'll give a shot at the answer: Most of the beast stuff is in Revelation. Maybe you're thinking of something in chapter 18. However, I wouldn't venture a guess of greater specificity. In Him, Doc |

Hi, Yam... Welcome to the forum! My first thought would be: What did chapters 1 through 7 say? I hope that any expositor of Scripture would expect the students to know the context of a word, sentence, pericope, and chapter. In Him, Doc |

4810 | why the diference? | Revelation | DocTrinsograce | 240526
Hi, Wes... Welcome to the forum! Using e-Sword with the NASB, I get 30 verses and 32 occurrences. However, looking at the Greek word for lamb (arnion), I see 27 verses with 29 occurrences. I do see at least three verses where the English word is inserted by the translators (probably for antecedent clarity, or something similar): Revelation 6:7; 9; 8:1. Perhaps whoever wrote your notes intended the Greek word count -- hence the 29. In Him, Doc |

Hi, Machorro73... Welcome to the forum! The location of the New Babylon would depend on how it is interpreted. Some of the most common views (but I will not vouch for their sagacity) are listed below: Greek Orthodox View: the kingdom of Lucifer Early Reformed View: the Church of Rome Amillennial View: the forces of secularism and godlessness Idealist View: the world system in general Preterist View: the city of Jerusalem Historicist View: the city of Rome Futurist View: a political/economic system Russelist View: everyone else except themselves SDA View: all Christendom prior to Ellen White Dispensationalist View: a rebuilt city in Iraq (though opinion varies quite a bit) In Him, Doc |

4813 | Are we outside time when we die | Revelation | DocTrinsograce | 242597
Hi, jkitchens... Human beings cannot exist outside of the universe in which we were created. When this was discussed in Seminary, I was told that eternity can make sense only as an endless succession of 24 hour periods. I am not trained in Biblical languages, but those that are assure me that this notion tends to most closely follow what was written. Note that the interim state -- the state we occupy between death and resurrection -- is an abnormal state. Men were not meant to be beings separate from bodies. Nor were men meant to dwell eternally in heaven. After glorification, when God restores His creation, men will again dwell upon the earth in the state for which they were created. Furthermore, as I pointed out earlier, since there are various activities that take place in the New Heaven and New Earth, involving sequence, no other sense than the passage of time can be properly understood. Hi, Celi... Welcome to the forum! I don't ever recall reading that John -- the person or the book -- was ever called the "heart of Christian revelations." Sometimes John has been called the Revelator, since he was the author of the book of Revelation (see Revelation 1:1). In Him, Doc |

Hi, hezrizn... Welcome to the forum! I believe that what you have in mind is "Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near." (Revelation 1:3 NASB) This blessing, by the way, would also apply to Scripture as a whole (cf Psalm 112:1; 128:1; Proverbs 8:34; Isaiah 48:17-18; Luke 11:28; etc.). In Him, Doc |
