4782 | Jude - Jesus brother | Jude 1:1 | DocTrinsograce | 167178
Hi, Winning... Albert Barnes is a good source. Look up his comments on the epistle here: http://www.studylight.org/com/bnn/ The Church of Rome asserts that Jude was one of Jesus' "adopted" brothers (Joseph's children from a prior marriage), or one of Jesus' cousins. However, I've never seen them produce anything that looks like solid, persuasive evidence on the topic. In Him, Doc |

4783 | Brothers and sisters | Jude 1:4 | DocTrinsograce | 231216
Hi, Atterbury... Only God can add to our number brothers and sisters (John 1:13). Our ranks are full of both wheat and tares. For example, one must be extremely careful about offering assurance when it may be the Holy Spirit Himself that is drawing someone to the Cross (Job 15:25-27). Each person needs to be dealt with in a specific and often unique fashion. The Scripture calls us to examine ourselves to be sure that we are of the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5). Assurance of salvation must be rooted in how the Word describes the redeemed (James 1:23-24), not because a person recited a prayer sometime in the past (Matthew 7:22-23) -- or even if they say they believe something. Even in a child, evidence of regeneration will result in observable fruit. John, in his first epistle, tells us that every believer will manifest love -- love of the Father, love the brethren, and love the Word. Why not work through another good set of passages (John 14 and 15) to compile a list of all the characteristics of a disciple of Christ. You can even report what you find back here to all our benefit (1 Corinthians 1:25). In Him, Doc |

4784 | My question for the panel or to be answe | Jude 1:7 | DocTrinsograce | 235698
Hello, G... Welcome to the forum! Every Apostle was a Prophet, but they were very special. These were the men specially chosen by Christ, the Head of the Church (Colossians 1:18), from which the church was built (Matthew 18:18). In Him, Doc |

Perhaps you are confused with the term archfiend. The prefix "arch" simply means "principal" or "chief."

4787 | Blood of Jesus | Jude 1:9 | DocTrinsograce | 197265
Hi, jesus1km... Teachings of that sort are rooted in the relatively modern teachings of Pentecostalism and its variants. The Scripture does not support the teaching of "taking authority" as normative for believers today. That's the bad news! The good news is that we belong to the one who has all authority (John 5:27). He cannot be thwarted (Job 42:2). He is working to finish what He began in our lives (Hebrews 12:2). In Him, Doc |

4788 | guiding principles to Revelation | Revelation | DocTrinsograce | 129366
Great answers, Ed and following! A lot of what you get out of the Bible is based on presuppositions. That's particularly true of unfulfilled prophecy. So you might want to become familiar with some of the various positions that have been taught. There can be a wide spectrum of opinion! I can think of several positions that are commonly held and are more than adequately represented by members in this forum. All of these positions have strengths and weaknesses, but I've never seen one that convinces me 100 percent... but that may just be me! One thing that is really marvelous about Revelations, though, is that it blesses just by digging into it! Rev 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. |

"You will bear me witness, my friends, that it is exceedingly seldom I ever intrude into the mysteries of the future with regard to the second advent, the millennial reign, or the first and second resurrection. As often as we come across it in our expositions we do not turn aside from the point, but if guilty at all on this point, it is rather in being too silent than saying too much." --Charles Spurgeon

4794 | What is premillinial? | Revelation | DocTrinsograce | 193460
Hi, metalgirl... These doctrines have to do with the discipline of study in theology called eschatology; i.e., the study of end times. Premillennialism is the doctrine that the Second Coming will occur before a literal thousand year reign of Christ on earth. Postmillennialism is the doctrine that the millennium reign of Christ is an era rather than a literal period of time, hence the Second Coming will follow it. The third common teaching is Amillennialism, the doctrine that the millennium reign started at the Resurrection of Christ and will end with the Second Coming. All of them contend over a proper interpretation of Revelation 20:1-6. In Him, Doc |

4797 | When was Revelations written. | Revelation | DocTrinsograce | 203826
Hi, remorse2... There is not a clear consensus among scholars as to the date of Revelation. They do tend to agree that it was written later than 67 AD. It looks like it is a pretty good chance that John wrote it prior to 70 AD. In Him, Doc |
