4581 | Quality of faith | Heb 11:7 | DocTrinsograce | 152686
Hi, Terrib... No, Noah will not be judged by the quality of his faith... rather he has already been judged righteous through faith in Christ, just as Abraham and others. Justification is by grace alone through faith alone because of Christ alone. In Him, Doc |

4585 | Bible teachers/pastors-help! | Heb 12:1 | DocTrinsograce | 134501
I experience this kind of thing when I preach and teach. Let it all drive you closer to the Lord. Pray for inner strength, not that the trials disappear. I seem to recall reading one old Puritan who said (may paraphrase), "Lack of troubles do not indicate strength. Quite the contrary. Lack of troubles means that God knows you are too weak to deal with them." Like Ed says, Paul went through many of these things. Tell the Lord your are going to continue teaching no matter what happens. Cry out to Him, asking Him to create in you the image of His Son. Then keep on trucking, Ma'am. The front lines are not always a pleasant place to be. But then, who cares? We are not there for our own pleasure, we are there because that is where our King is working! God bless you, sister. 4587 | Gods Super Natural Power | Heb 12:2 | DocTrinsograce | 185935
Hi, Yvette... A pastor friend of mine used to say, "The gospel is not the ABC's of our faith, it is the A through Z of our faith!" Hence, my answer, is that you start with the gospel and live through the gospel. Might I suggest the following study? I believe it addresses your question very specifically: http://www.settingcaptivesfree.com/thecross/ In Him, Doc |

4588 | Please help a new Christian | Heb 12:2 | DocTrinsograce | 241839
Hi, Zeagle50... Welcome to the forum! Also, welcome to the Family of God. Scripture tells us that God is the one who originates us in the faith and He is also the one who will perfect it (Hebrews 12:2). He does not save us so that we will feel things or to spare us from suffering in life. Instead, all He does is for His glory and our ultimate good. What has begun in you is a transformation as the Lord transforms us to the image of Christ. Thus, you see, that He has started this relationship with you by what He has done in saving you. None of it matters how you feel. Rather these things are facts. The truth of facts are not changed by how we feel about them. What you need to realize is that the Scriptures are the most explicit speaking of God to you. Isn't that also part of having a relationship; i.e., communication? The Word of God is far more of His speaking to you than anything you might hear with ears or feel in the heart or experience in your life. Therefore, I would encourage you to read through Hebrews 12:1-13 in your current circumstances. Read it through over and over. Remember, do not worry about what you do NOT understand, rather focus on what you DO understand. It will be in the things that you DO understand that God will be dealing with you. Then I would suggest that you read through the gospels, one chapter a day, all year long. You'll have read them four times by 2016! It is in the Word that our Lord Jesus Christ makes Himself known (Hebrews 1:1-2). Finally, we will all be praying for you as you grow in Him. Perhaps He will bring healing to your body. Nonetheless, as you read Hebrews 12, you will know that everything that He does with us has the ultimate goal of glory in Him. In Him, Doc |

4589 | does god punish us for sinning | Heb 12:2 | DocTrinsograce | 241844
Hi, Zeag... Yes, God does and has punished people for sin. As you study the Word, I will leave it to you to find specific instances in Scripture for when He has done so! However, whether that applies to your situation is an entirely different matter. But you are a Christian, consequently you should know that all things come from His hand, as I said to you early. Therefore, seek Him and His glory through your circumstances. In Him, Doc |

4591 | what's your preference | Heb 12:6 | DocTrinsograce | 202753
"Nothing can render affliction so insupportable as the load of sin: would you, therefore, be fitted for afflictions, be sure to get the burden of your sins laid aside, and then what afflictions soever you may meet with will be very easy to you. "If thou canst hear and bear the rod of affliction which God shall lay upon thee, remember this lesson -- thou art beaten that thou mayest be better. "The Lord useth his flail of tribulation to separate the chaff from the wheat. "The school of the cross is the school of light; it discovers the world’s vanity, baseness, and wickedness, and lets us see more of God’s mind. Out of dark affliction comes a spiritual light. "In times of affliction we commonly meet with the sweetest experiences of the love of God. "Did we heartily renounce the pleasures of this world, we should be very little troubled for our afflictions; that which renders an afflicted state so insupportable to many is because they are too much addicted to the pleasures of this life, and so cannot endure that which makes a separation between them." --Mr. John Bunyan's Dying Sayings, chapter 2 |

4592 | difference in testing and chastening | Heb 12:6 | DocTrinsograce | 237817
Hi, Waynzpeg... Welcome to the forum! Chastening is corrective discipline the intention of which is restorative (see Hebrews 12). Testing is the process by which internal realities are made manifest in external behavior. Chastening is something that only the elect experience, testing is something that all people experience. 4593 | Trials | Heb 12:6 | DocTrinsograce | 239534
Hi, LovemyLord7... Hebrews 12 is probably the best single, didactic passage on this question. As I suggested once before, you might also look up the word afflicted. See, for example, the three occurrences of that word in Psalm 119 (vv67, 71, and 75). In Him, Doc |

Hi, Ema... This could be an indication that the person was never saved in the first place (see the Parable of the Soils). In fact, they should start by questioning their salvation. However, if the person was saved, God will bring chastening and scourging to bring His own to repentance. Either way, they should be very afraid! We deal with a Holy God. In Him, Doc |

4597 | Are Catholic members consider Christian? | Heb 12:23 | DocTrinsograce | 217152
Hi, Edd... The universal church, the body of Christ, is not a visible organization. It is composed of all of the elect -- past, present, and future -- the spouse of the One who secured their redemption, the head of the church, the Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 12:23; Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 1:10, 22-23; Ephesians 5:23, 27, 32). Anyone professing faith in the gospel, and submitting to God in obedience to it, living lives of growing holiness evidence this work of God and ought to be considered His own (1 Corinthians 1:2; Acts 11:26; Romans 1:7; Ephesians 1:20-22). 4598 | should it be Easter, or Passover? | Heb 12:24 | DocTrinsograce | 221769
Dear sonofmom, Welcome to the forum! I am a Jewish convert to Christianity. I, also, say "Happy Resurrection Day." Why would you want to go backwards, to the old covenant, when the new is our assurance of our eternal inheritance (Hebrews 9:15)? Why take on a burden that not even the Jews have been able to bear (Acts 15:10)? The world will always distort and obfuscate the things of God. This is part of the hatred of the Serpent to the Holy Seed. What does such distortion have to do with us? Therefore, go on walking as you ought -- in grace, not legalism -- keeping our eyes on Christ. No day is superior to another. Rather, let us rejoice on this day at the consummation of the work of Lamb of God in atonement. In Him, Doc |

4599 | Is Passover connected with Resurrection | Heb 12:24 | DocTrinsograce | 221773
Dear sonofmom, You asked, "Does Passover have a connection with the resurrection?" The celebration of the Passover arises from the events in Exodus 12 and, including an annual, sin atoning sacrifice of a lamb for each family. Holy Week arises from the events of the week of the Lord Jesus Christ's life of ministry as recorded in the gospels, culminating in the one single and final sacrifice of the perfect Lamb of God, once and for all for God's elect. The former was a picture of the future fulfillment of the latter (Hebrews 10:1). The former was temporary, the latter was permanent (Hebrews 10:10). The former was inadequate, the latter was final (Hebrews 9:26). The former was a work of man in a temple made by hands, offering up the blood of animals; the latter is the work of God in the heavens, offering up the blood of the perfect Lamb of God (Hebrews 9:11-12). Etc. Etc. You are looking to the past as having some kind of superiority to the present. Remember, the mixing of paganism in the world's modern practices came straight out of the past. You are looking at the practices of others that you deem "God-fearing" (sic) as better than the practices of others. Remember, the Jew reject God's provision in Christ in its entirety (Acts 7:51). Worst of all, you are looking to your feelings as some sort of infallible guide. Remember, the heart is more deceitful than anything else in creation (Jeremiah 17:9)... and guess who it deceives most frequently! Son, you need a whole new mindset. You need to focus on God, who He is and what He has done, from the Scriptures, "the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience." Corrie ten Boom had a wonderful little saying, "Look without and be distressed. Look within and be depressed. Look above and be at rest." Study the Word, feed on it. The Word is God's primary means of self-revelation. Then use it as the lens through which you look at the world and, more importantly, look at yourself. Then, armed with the truth, then is the time to do the feeling stuff. In Him, Doc |
