43 | Israelites attitudes during exodus | Bible general | DocTrinsograce | 240689
Hi, Ingrid... Welcome to the forum! Grumbling has at its root dissatisfaction with God's providence. See the contrast from Philippians 2:13-16. Note that the "blameless and innocent children of God" manifest themselves by an attitude of complete trust in God. They know that every circumstance and situation is entirely under His control. We can sweep everything away by simply giving it the name of sin. However, when the authority of Scripture alone is the foundation of our thinking, then we learn to let the Word illumine our thinking. Thank you for asking this question. In Him, Doc |

44 | Will christians be rapture before the ma | Bible general | DocTrinsograce | 240770
Hi, Kathy... Welcome to the forum! I think there are some eschatological presuppositions that would weigh into any possible answer. Those would include perspectives on the "rapture" and the nature of the "mark of the beast." Consequently, you would get a different answer depending on whether the person responding was, for example, a Dispensationalist on one extreme or a Preterist on the other. What answer does your pastor give you? In Him, Doc |

Hi, Vonray... Welcome to the forum! I am glad that you are turning to the Scriptures themselves, rather then some kind of inner feelings. We are to stand firmly on the solid rock of the Word. Otherwise you might well be suffering a maladay not much different than your brother-in-law. Indeed, work to increase your own understanding of Scriptures. Do not try to deal with this other man's perceived problem. You already have something in common in the Word itself. As you grow in love of God, love of His Word, love of His church, and love of His righteousness (1 John), the Lord will provide opportunities for you to interact with your brother-in-law. There are far more points of commonality than this single issue. No doubt God is working in him as well. Why not take an epistle like 1 John and become an expert on it? This will allow the Lord to begin to build the kind of character in you that will be able to lovingly help your brother. Meanwhile, those of us in the forum, will be praying for you and your brother-in-law. In Him, Doc |

54 | I have been praying for my sons who are | Bible general | DocTrinsograce | 240924
Hi, Anita... Perhaps it is time for us to pray that God would mightily tamper with their wills; just as he did with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Boaz, Jonah, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Ezekiel, the Disciples, Paul, etc. etc. There is nothing so precious a gift He gave to me by tampering with my will. Left to our devices there is nothing but misery, suffering, pain, affliction, and a lonely, unremarkable death. You know that these things are true for your sons if God should fail to tamper with their wills. All that they have now is their own way, and it is leading them unerringly to damnation. Ask God to have mercy on your sons; to intervene on their behalf; to do whatever is necessary for them to become men of God and God alone. Remember, ma'am, while their is life, there is hope. Persevere in prayer -- too your final breath. What is more, we will join you in this prayer. God specializes in the impossible. In Him, Doc |

55 | I sit here blinded by tears but with | Bible general | DocTrinsograce | 240942
Hi, Anita... If anything I have written is helpful, that would be entirely by the grace of God. The old Puritans used to refer speak of the "gift of tears." Left to ourselves, our hearts are but hard and stony. There are readers of our forum from one side of the world to the other. It is likely that the sun continually shines on those praying for you and your family. Imagine! One day, perhaps, you will come to us and tell us how the Lord has transformed your sons through the Gospel! Perhaps, in His providence, this is why He has given your sons a praying mother! Hi, Ryan... Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. The forum is not an appropriate place to seek personal counselling. You should ask your church elders or pastors for that kind of help. They know you much better than anyone here on the forum. Furthermore, the direct interaction with them will be far more helpful than the anonymity common to the Internet. In Him, Doc |

60 | Born again is receiving the spirit | Bible general | DocTrinsograce | 241006
Hi, hgh84... That statement is true, but it certainly is not all that we ought and can teach about the practice. There are a number of means of grace that the Lord Jesus Christ ordained for His church. Most orthodox Christians would at least admit to baptism and communion as two of them; historically some have included others (e.g., preaching). These means of grace, arguably, have no efficacy for lost people: to the lost, baptism is just getting wet; communion is just eating a chiclet and drinking some grape juice; preaching is just talk; etc. However, for the redeemed, these things are so much more than just the physical acts.
