226 | Need help in understanding Grace | Bible general Archive 4 | DocTrinsograce | 200240
Hi, gerroy... Welcome to the forum! Grace is most often defined as "unmerited favor." I rather prefer Wayne Grudem's more complete definition: "God's goodness toward those who deserve only punishment." Other theologians have described grace as follows: "Ascribed to God, grace is His voluntary, unrestrained, unmerited favor toward guilty sinners, granting them justification and life instead of the penalty of death, which they deserved." --Herman Bavinck "The grace of God is love freely shown towards guilty sinners, contrary to their merit and indeed in defiance of their demerit. It is God showing goodness to persons who deserve only severity, and had no reason to expect anything but severity." --James I. Packer "Grace is defined Biblically as the demonstration of love/favor that is unearned, undeserved, and unrepayable; God imputes merit where none previously existed and declares no debt to be where one had been before. Grace is not dispensed on the basis of good works, including the good work of baptism." --Michael Horton You might find the following article by Jerry Bridges helpful: http://www.rts.edu/quarterly/fall98/grace.html In Him, Doc |

Hi, Cubbies... Welcome to the forum! You won't find a single verse in which that idea is expressed. There are a huge number of inferences and assumptions that go into pulling that out of Bible. You might try asking such a question of a Q and A group that specializes in dispensationalism. In Him, Doc |

234 | positive and negative impact of monarchy | Bible general Archive 4 | DocTrinsograce | 200486
Hi, booboo... Welcome to the forum! Except in specific instances in Israel's history, the Bible does not render an opinion as to the efficacy of particular forms of government. Any human government will have much that is inadequate, imperfect, and detrimental. However, any kind of government can be used by God to fulfill His purposes. The only perfect government will be the one in which Christ reigns over all. In Him, Doc |

235 | PRAISE IN SONGS AND INSTRUMENTS | Bible general Archive 4 | DocTrinsograce | 200544
Dear Deacon, There is a sort of convention on the forum that if responding to a post in an existing thread, one should mark it as a note. The person being replyied to will be notified. This allows the front page to contain only new questions, freeing us to continue to interact within the context of a given thread. In Him, Doc |

236 | What is the Numerical Principle? | Bible general Archive 4 | DocTrinsograce | 200617
Hi, Elder Dorsey... Welcome to the forum! Presumably, you are asking about the Numerical Principle relative to Biblical hermeneutics. :-) It is a principle that presupposes that all Biblical number references have some sort of hidden significance. It tends to be very popular amongst modern prophecy mongers. Ultimately it has its roots in the Alexandrian School of Biblical interpretation -- an approach that is contrary to the sola Scriptura doctrine upon which this forum is predicated. In Him, Doc |

238 | about mix race being together | Bible general Archive 4 | DocTrinsograce | 200667
Hi, Mishell... Welcome to the forum! There are no such verses in the Bible. We are all the children of Adam and Eve. That said, depending on the culture and the times, there are additional challenges that mixed couples face. I don't mean that it is sinful or anything. Only that marriage is difficult enough without adding additional complexities. Consequently, I would tend to encourage single people to seek out mates with the fewest of extra issues. However, in your type of situation here in America, I should think that the brethren in the church should be utterly color blind. In Him, Doc |
