1331 | Paul | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 224889
Hello do you frog, In general, this section of Phillipians is giving us the example of (the) humility of Christ. On a deeper level it's "Grappling with the mystery of the Christ of Christianity" (Dr. John Ward) Following are the outline notes from his exposition he gave this past summer- 1. The Duty- (2:5) "have this mind among yourselves", 'this mind' used 27 times in NT (24 by Paul) It is a continuous, active, imperative! A. Context 1. Logically connected with vv. 1-4 2. Grammatically connected with vv. 1-4 a. mind - attitude Used twice in vs 2, "like-minded" b. consider- same as verse vs. 3 "esteem" c. He humbled Himself- same root as vs 3, "lowliness of mind" The concept of this points us back to vs 1-4. 2. The Christology (2:6-11a) A. His Humiliation ( vs. 6-8) 1. The contextual distinction ( vs 6-8) a. Pre-incarnate state ("ek sarke") vs 6 b. Incarnate state ("en sarke") vs 8 2. The Biblical Assertions (vs 6) a. His eternality- self-existant always means pre-existant 'being' is present tense b. His Diety- 'morphe' form of God intrinsic/extrinsic c. His humility- His majesty or the surrender of His privileges. Is the "robbery" referred to active or passive? 3. The Theological Proposition (vs 7-8) cf 1 John 4:9, Gal. 4:4, Heb. 10;3) Phrase literally reads, "but, Himself He emptied" a. The Problem- kenosis (Gr) What was emptied? He gave up "positional equality" b. The Proposals- (what did He empty Himself of?) 1. Christ layed aside His pre-incarnate glory. the outward expression of (His) Diety. 2. He surrendered the independant excercise of His attributes 3. He emptied Himself of this for the purpose of death, to become man. As God cannot die, so that He could die for us. B. His Exaltation (2:9-11) God as the subject, Jesus passive 1. The Principle- The way up is the way down (James 4:10) 2. The Proposition- God the Father has super-exalted Him and given Him the name that is above all names; 3. The Purpose- (vs 10) That "every knee shall bow to Jesus" "Highly exalted"- only use is in NT 4. The Pronouncement- What is the name? ...Lord! Jesus is the one true God. Is. 45:5, 23 "I am Yahweh" My hope and prayer is that you can somehow use this to further your knowledge and understanding of this deeply Christological passage. It's truths are tremendous! 1332 | Did Dr Frank Logsdon work on the NASB? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 225257
Hello kwadecook, The Lockman Foundation's Official Response to KJVO claims about Frank Logsdon Published with permission from The Lockman Foundation "The Board of Directors of The Lockman Foundation launched the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE translation work in the late 1950's following the completion of the AMPLIFIED NEW TESTAMENT. Dr. S. Franklin Logsdon was acquainted with Dewey Lockman, president of The Lockman Foundation, prior to Mr. Lockman's death in 1974. Mr. Logsdon was never a member of the Board of Directors, nor was he an employee of The Lockman Foundation. Mr. Logsdon had no authority to hire employees or translators for the Foundation, to set policy, to vote, to hold office, to incur expenses, etc. He cannot be considered "co-founder" of the NASB, nor part of The Lockman Foundation, nor part of the NASB translation team, nor did he write the forward of the NASB. According to our records, he was present at board meetings on two occasions -- once to hear a travel report; and once to deliver an "inspirational thought." Mr. Logsdon last wrote to Mr. Lockman in fall of 1973 that he was moving to Florida. Mr. Lockman replied that he was surprised and saddened by his decision to leave the area. Mr. Lockman passed away in January of 1974, and no further correspondence was exchanged between Frank Logsdon and The Lockman Foundation. He resided in Florida until his passing some years ago. The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8 (NASB)" The Lockman Foundation I hope this helps, BradK |

1333 | God responsible of earthquue´s deaths | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 225468
Hello Pilar, It sounds like you're making more of a statement than posing a question! Do you have a specific question? God is Sovereign: "But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases." (Ps. 115:3) Rom 9:14 What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be! Rom 9:15 For He says to Moses, "I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION." Rom 9:16 So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. Rom 9:17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE I RAISED YOU UP, TO DEMONSTRATE MY POWER IN YOU, AND THAT MY NAME MIGHT BE PROCLAIMED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE EARTH." Rom 9:18 So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires. Rom 9:19 You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?" Rom 9:20 On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it? Rom 9:21 Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use? Rom 9:22 What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? (NASB) BradK |
