Mark 13:32 (King James Version) 32But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Jesus was describing to his disciples in the 13th chapter the meaning of his statement found at Mark 13:1,2 which says: And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here! 2And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. In response to Jesus prophecy concerning the destruction of the temple,Peter and James wanted to know "Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?" In vs 5-27 he answers their question by giving them signs that would point to the fulfillment of the prophecy. Then in vs 28,29 he gives an interesting illustration he says "Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near,So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors." Notice that Jesus talked about discerning signs as to when the destruction of the temple would come he did not give exact dates, why? Vs 32 Gives us the answer: "But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father." Jesus said that the only being who knows the day and hour of that coming destruction is the Father! Now the question arises if the Father and the Son are the same wouldn't they all know the day and the hour of the destruction of the temple? Why does the scripture in vs 32 say that the Son does not know the day or hour? |
