Hi Mike, I'm glad you can see some humor, thats very encouraging! :-) We should never take ourselves too seriously. May I ask, Mike, how many people you have seen lead to Christ by speaking in tongues? I have never seen this, nor have I heard of any genuine conversion by doing so. I have though, heard of and seen, many, by preaching the word of God in intelligible words, and there are many, many thousands, no, millions, that have been lead to Christ by, simply giving out His Word in a clear, understandable way; and the power of the Holy Spirit works miraculously through His Word to effect conviction of sin and, faith in the heart of the unbeliever, destined for hell without having heard God's all redeeming Word of truth; spoken in clear, understandable words. By the way, Paul never encourages anyone to speak in tongues. In fact, he does a very good job of discouraging it. In fact, though he may say he wished all would, (and though he doesn't condemn it, though I'd say he comes pretty close and as so many take out of context that he wishes all would) he goes on to say: he would rather speak five intelligible words, that edify, then five thousand in tongues. He not only discourages tongues, but also urges them to grow up and seek higher gifts. So I would contend that speaking in tongues is not for a, mature Christian, but, for an immature one, who's faith is weak and needs some kind of sign to build up their faith. I urge you to take Paul's advice. On that note, I think this thread has run it's course and, will respectfully bow out. If you feel you need the last word, please feel free, you may do so. An added note: The 'Hammer' my friend, Mike, is, Christ, preached in understandable words, and Him crucified, preached in understandable words. Not, tongues. Shalom and God bless John p.s. I've really enjoyed our discussion, Mike, you've been very graceful. Thank you. |

A ringing endorsement of sound exegesis, form one who holds such high esteem, the teachings of worldly teachers as Aristotle and Anatole France. Perhaps I should read more of what they have to say. It has been said and, it is quite interesting that, one who thinks so highly, what the Holy Spirit has taught to himself, should think so little of what He has taught to others. If you are of such a mind, pray, remain so, it's not worth the time to try to convince you otherwise. |

Sir, it has been my observance since your arrival to this forum that, you have taken and twisted the Scriptures for your own prepossess, and yet you have the gall to accuse and condemn others of that which is your own folly. No one is right all the time, including, myself, and including, yourself. Comparing Dr. MacArthur with Copeland is like comparing the devil himself to Pollyanna. Sheesh!

Hi Mike, Sorry, Mike, but I just had to step in here, I hope you don't mind. I agree with what you said, but I had a problem with the first line, where you said: "I absolutely agree with Acts 2:38. It is not necessary to be saved or to receive the Holy Spirit!" I think you may want to rephrase that? It kinda leaves you hanging out there without coming to a conclusion, like it isn't necessary at all, and It looks like you may even be saying, you don't need to be saved to receive the Holy Spirit. I know you don't really mean that it isn't necessary at all, or, an unsaved person can receive the Holly Spirit, but the way you phrased it, it kinda looks that way. At least to me it does. Sorry, I know the rest of your post clarifies it, but it does look kinda odd. Again, sorry for splitting hairs, but to these old tired eyes, it sure looked funny till I read it a few times. :-) I hope you are enjoying the forum. John |

Mike, many a time it has been that I wished I could have back something that was gone, flying off into cyberspace and landing on the pages of the forum, before I had done a good enough job of editing it. Though I still mess up quite a bit, I am learning to proofread my posts a little better with time. :-)

Dear Mike, You are correct, the "useless wranglings" when read in context can surly be seen as you have stated, but just as v16 it also can and should be taken with a much broader application. We should indeed, in all cases, be diligent to study and know the Scriptures, and it is never a good thing to wrangle about semantics or be too pedantic about our views. I have to say though, I haven't seen occasion to admonish you about your "attitude", thus far, and though you don't necessarily agree with all other views, you have shown to be quite graceful and respectful, at least as far as I can see. Although, that may not be very far, but I do try. :-) John |

Scripture says we will know them by their fruit; I may be wrong, but you seem to have a spirit of argument and dissension. If what you want is to argue, I would personally like to invite you to take it elsewhere. It seems apparent, whom is holy.

Dear Who, I am by on means a computer wis, but as far as I can tell, the way this program works, once a post has been sent, it is done, and there is no way to send it again without intent. So, it may have been a mistake. But not on purposes? Nice try my friend! |

Hi Cheri, I've made that mistake myself, more then a few times! :-) Could it be done with another post between the two? That is what happened and that dose not seem possible without intent. I may be wrong but I don't see how that could happen, (i.e. posting between the two), without intent. Thanks Cheri God bless John |
