Hi Hoppy, I'm sorry but I don't think that all I can offer God mounts to a hill of beans. And I don't know anyone who can [honestly] say that they have given ALL to God. He is the one who gave it ALL! Go ahead and go to Him with your wife your kids your job and all your great fortune, and try to buy His kingdom. Its His Kingdom not ours, and we cant buy it, nor can we buy our way into it. Please see my post to Kalos. And, I never said nor did I imply, that the pearl, and the kingdom, where not the same. I don't know where you got that idea, they are the same I agree with you. That, is sound exegeses! God bless. John |

1526 | Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV) Pls Explain | Matt 13:45 | stjohn | 188534
Hello Kelos, Thanks for asking, I'd be glad to oblige. Well, starting in Matthew 13:10 And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?" This is where I believe we Should really start paying attention, and listen to our Lord. He is about to give us the Keys to understanding that which even the Prophets did not have. i.e. "the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven," 11 Jesus answered them, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. Then He goes on to explain that the reason He spoke in parables was to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah. 14 "In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says, 'YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND; YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE; 15 FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL, WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR, AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES, OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN, AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.' Now hear is another place to pay close attention this is where it gets important. I believe that He is talking to all His disciples, because we are His disciples too. 16 "But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. 17 "For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. 18 "Hear then the parable of the sower. Now here in v19 He starts to give us the keys. 19 "When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road. This is in reference to v4, so the [birds] symbolize the evil one, the devil. I'm not going through all of these just this one to show how the birds help us understand the parable of the mustard seed, wherein the birds nest in the branches of a overgrown tree. This gives me a picture of the organized Church, with all its false teaching, like, well, I don't want to mention any but there are plenty that are out there, I don't think I need to point them out. Now lets please skip to v 24, the [tares and the wheat] where our Lord begins to give a series of parables. [emphases are mine] 24 Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to [a man who sowed] good seed in his field. 31 He presented another parable to them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which [a man took and sowed] in his field; Now in this one the keys for understanding are not given in matt 13, but liven is used many times in scripture and it [ALWAYS] means evil. Just so we know to be careful of false interpretation, and how a little bit of false teaching can infect the whole Kingdom. 33 He spoke another parable to them, "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three pecks of flour until it was all leavened." Now hear is the clincher, the [man] as used in all the parables that have a man sowing, or, the one who sows, Is the Son of Man. 37 And He said, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man, 38 and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one; 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels. 40 "So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age. Notice please just who's kingdom it is. Can we buy His kingdom? 41 "The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of [His kingdom] all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, 42 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 "Then THE RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. Now take a look at v44 using the key that our Lord gives us on who the [man] is. 44 "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which [a man] found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. I will ask you now, How do we gain our place in the Kingdom, do we buy it? Or, do we simply believe in the name of the one that Bought us with His Blood? God bless. John |

1527 | Properly Interpreting the Bible | Bible general Archive 3 | stjohn | 188496
Hi Doc, I'm reading your thread [Properly Interpreting the Bible] . so far so good. I like your prayer..... you wrote "Every believer has the obligation to be a student (disciple) of Christ and an instructor of the teachings of Christ (Matthew 28:18-20). Matt 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. v19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, v20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. "It is my prayer, therefore, that we place the proper emphasis on the interpretation of Scripture that God intends us to have." Amen to that. and as you can see I've imbedded the scriptures you've referenced, into what I have quoted from your post. Also I would like to emphasize this section of verse from v18b. "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth." I think this makes my point that when our Lord gives us keys to understand some of the parables, then shouldn't we use those keys to understand the others? Or should we use our own authority for interpretation? God bless. John |

1530 | Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV) Pls Explain | Matt 13:45 | stjohn | 188487
Hi Doc, The interpretation of the parables is not difficult if we use the keys that Jesus himself gives us. I would say that was sound exegesis. If I were you I'd take another look at chapter 13, and use those keys, and then see what you see. God bless. John |

1531 | Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV) Pls Explain | Matt 13:45 | stjohn | 188484
Hi Hoppy, ok lets look at it this way please. The King is the one that owns the Kingdom. We are sons of the kingdom and subject to the king. How can we have the idea that we can own something that belongs to the King. Jesus is our King, and owner of the Kingdom that He purchased with His Blood. And I'd like to point out please that the verse says [a] Man [singular] not [Man] which would be plural. I agree that the pearl and the treasure are parallels. But they are not something that we can by. We have nothing to by them with. And, the field is the world as told to us by Jesus, And God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son. Also Jesus interprets some of the parables, He indicates the Man is The Son of Man. Behold a sower, and the kingdom is like a man who sowed good seed, etc... He makes it pretty clear who the Man is. Matt 13:37 And He said, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man, Matt 13:38 and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom;" God bless. John |

1535 | Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV) Pls Explain | Matt 13:45 | stjohn | 188421
Amen brother mark, And we can see another interesting parallel, in that a pearl is a many layered gem that coats a foreign object like a peace of dirt or sand and the oyster covers it, sort of like God covers our sins, with the blood of Jesus. Altho His blood actually wipes them out, the parallel can still be made I think, its like the sanctification process, we mess up, He cleans us up, and so on, until at the end you have a pearl. I don't feel much like a pearl by the way, but I'm getting closer. :-) And I would like to add in Hoppys defense that, I think its easy to misinterpret the parables when you don't know the keys, I had them all over the place with some very interesting interpretations, until I was shown the keys by someone, and they are right there in Matthew 13 for all to read you just have to read them and think a little bit. God bless. John |
||||||
1536 | Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV) Pls Explain | Matt 13:45 | stjohn | 188393
Hi hoppy, If a natural man has nothing to offer God, then if he sells everything to perches the pearls, then he has nothing form nothing, because what he had to sell was worth nothing in the first place. Because of the keys to understanding the parables are given to us by our lord, this is right on the money as far as I can see, Because when Jesus explains them He says the [man] in the parables is the Son of Man. And that would be Him would it not? So, I'd be careful not to call something absurd until I took a closer look. God bless. John |

1537 | Are there any scriptures for the rapture | 2 Pet 3:10 | stjohn | 188391
Hi MRoyal, The 24 Elders, Represent the Church. And possibly the old testament saints as well, but I would say most definitely, the Church. Look at chapter 3 carefully please, and instead of giving you a list of scripture, I'll put it down for you to read so you don't have to search for it. And first of all, you are correct in saying that they are not those that [came out] of the great tribulation. Notice what Jesus is saying to His Church in Chapter 3, about white garments. [emphases of course is mine] Rev 3:4 'But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me [in white], for they are worthy. Rev 3:5 'He who overcomes will thus be clothed [in white garments;] and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. Rev 3:18 I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and [white garments] so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. Now lets look please at chapter 4, and what the elders are wearing. And, we may ask. Where did they get them, and why, are they wearing them? Rev 4:4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, [clothed in white garments,] and golden crowns on their heads. Now lets look please at chapter 3 again and see what Our Lord is saying about what is going to happen. Rev 3:3 'So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you. Rev 3:8 'I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut, because you have a little power, and have kept My word, and have not denied My name. Please take special note of v10 this is very important. [emphases is mine] Rev 3:10 'Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, [I also will keep you from the hour of testing,] that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. Note that He said that he will keep those who keep His word from the hour that is [about to come.] And also note that the [testing] is the first half of the tribulation the wrath comes after the testing, in the second half. Now in v11 please look at what Our Lord is saying about coming quickly, and [the crowns.] Rev 3:11 'I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your crown. And now chapter 4. Rev 4:4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and [golden crowns on their heads.] The evidence is piling up. Now lets look please at chapter 3 again, and note the open door. Rev 3:8 'I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an [open door] which no one can shut, because you have a little power, and have kept My word, and have not denied My name. and chapter 4. Rev 4:1 After these things I looked, and behold, [a door standing open in heaven,] and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things." Also note the voice with the sound [like a trumpet.] this is not a trumpet but a voice [like] a trumpet. And it is a voice saying; [come up here!] Sense the voice is not a trumpet but a sound like a trumpet, then it is not a trumpet, and has nothing to do with the last trumpet. And, the [voice] says to John; "I will show you what must take place after these things." Well, after what things? What has Our Lord been talking about in chapter 3? The Church thats what. so chapter 4 opens, with the Church already in Heaven. So, the rapture/catching away, must have taken place sometime near the end of chapter 3. And when John gets there at the beginning of chapter 4 what does he see? Well, It looks to me like the Church, and perhaps including the old testament saints as well. If you need more let me know I'll be glad to help answer your questions, I'm sure this will raise some in other areas. To answer one right now, the saints we find in later chapters are those that are saved because of the witness of the 144000. I hope, this has given you some hope. And cleared up some confusion on when the rapture will take place. God bless. John |

Hi Gary, Welcome to the forum. I don't really blame you for getting a little offended, but you did kind of come in like gang busters, firing of answers to questions, some of which are quite old by the way, and then you fired of with a rather controversial subject. well, in defense of the forum, I really couldn't blame anyone for admonishing you to protocol. I hope we can start over on a new page. So, I hope you enjoy the forum, and you become an active respected member. I am confident that you will. 1539 | Divine Judgment | 2 Cor 5:11 | stjohn | 188350
Hi doc, Thank you. A well needed reminder, here is another truth to keep in our heart..... Rev 3:16 'So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. 17 'Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, v18 I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. v19 'Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. Amen Lord Jesus, because I know I'm wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, I'm gona live in the repent! We have nothing to offer God, but the fact that we believe in the name and redemptive power of the sacrifice of Jesus. It is all too easy to forget to live in fear of God when we have this hope. We sometimes become arrogant, and try to push others around with our own enlightened view of scripture. I know I am guilty of not letting the joy and love of God just shine threw me all the time like I know I should, but we put our best foot forward, and praise God when we fall on our face, or when said foot ends up in our mouth. God bless. John |

1540 | Are there any scriptures for the rapture | 2 Pet 3:10 | stjohn | 188346
Hi MRoyal, Well, none of the scriptures you have given me indicate a post trib rapture or catching away of the church. This has been a pattern of yours to fail to answer pertinent questions asked by myself and others as well. You keep handing over the same unconvincing Scriptures that not only do not give credence to your view but do not even address the questions that are posed by myself and others. I wish you would give us the respect of answering our questions. Several people now have asked you to answer their questions and you don't bother to answer them. You just keep repeating yourself. That's not a very convincing approach to getting your point across. You have said. "Before we get to the wrath of God, it must be understood that the antichrists/beast must be revealed and reign, and deceive, and also overcome the saints Rev.13:" Agreed. where is the catching away/rapture? you have also said. "it is because of the ac/beasts reign that Gods wrath is promised on those that have worshiped the ac/beast Rev. 14:9-12." Agreed. Where is the rapture/catching away? and where in matthew is a timeline that would indicate a post trib, mid trib or any trib rapture for that matter, I don't see the rapture in there. Where is it? Who are the 24 elders in white raiment that John sees waiting for him after he is caught up in the beginning of chapter 4 in revelation? It looks to me that they represent the Church. Do you have a better answer? If you need more let me know. I'll be glad to help you. I hope this has given you a better understanding of God's order of events God bless. John |
