1422 | Theology of Glory versus the Cross | 2 Tim 3:13 | stjohn | 195160
Doc, Mr Osteen's origination (I'm not calling it a ministry) also looks a lot like a fulfillment of 2Tim 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. Also, Luke 6:39 I read recently that when Mr. Osteen visits a town, you have to get tickets to see him! I would think we can safely say, that is just wrong! God bless John |

1423 | Noah,the eighth? | Gen 5:32 | stjohn | 195146
Chrei, Yes, all is well thank you. We all receive unmerited compensation for seeking greater knowledge of our God, through studying His word in order that we may glorify His name. The real payday will be truly wonderful! "For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection," Romans 6:5. God bless John |

1424 | Noah,the eighth? | Gen 5:32 | stjohn | 195139

1425 | Noah,the eighth? | Gen 5:32 | stjohn | 195138
Michael, Just a reminder, It's important to focus on the message that is being taught here in 2Perer, and not get sidetracked. Peter is talking about God judging, and condemning the wicked, and the salvation of the righteous through the work of the Holy Spirit. And God's all sufficient ability to do it. this has little or nothing to do with the formal customs of the day. Michael, I'm happy you are studding so diligently. :-) God bless John |

1426 | Noah,the eighth? | Gen 5:32 | stjohn | 195135
Hi Cheri, I'm jumping in here; Brother Michael was asking about 2 Peter 2:5 I think we have cleared up the understanding a bit, you could read the question, it would be easier for you I think then me trying to explain in my limited ability. :-) God bless John |

1427 | Noah,the eighth? | Gen 5:32 | stjohn | 195131
Hi Michael, Well, I don't know that Peter was really counting them formally, In which case Noah perhaps, would be counted first, I suppose, but, he was simply relaying the story of their salvation from destruction by the flood. He did however only mention Noah by name and the others were not mentioned by name, giving Noah formal precedence. Although, I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with what Peter is telling us here but, Does that help? God bless John |

1429 | Can prayer change perfect will of God? | Ps 115:3 | stjohn | 195044
Hi Cheri, That's right, nothing we can do will change the perfect will, purpose and plans of our all sovereign God. But yet, He tells us to pray. Look at it this way if you will, a child of a loving and attentive mother will have their needs met, but she still loves to here the child ask please. It's more about our relationship, I think, then it's about changing what God has planed to do. It's important for us to just trust God, sort of like an infant instinctively knows that it will find food at it's mothers breast, although it doesn't understand it, it just somehow trusts. Luke 18:17 "Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all. God bless :-) John |

1430 | Can prayer change perfect will of God? | Ps 115:3 | stjohn | 195042
Hi Cheri, First of all I wasn't responding to you I didn't see your post until I posted mine although it does seem to fit. :-) I don't believe there is "anyone" this side of paradise that can tell us how prayer works, only that we are told by God to do it, and that He hears our prayers. When we don't understand, sometimes it's better to let it go for now, don't you think? Remember Cheri, the "fact" that God is sovereign, is fundamental to orthodox Christian belief. Eph 6:18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, God bless John |

1431 | Can prayer change perfect will of God? | Ps 115:3 | stjohn | 195038
Thanks BradK! It's good to know, when I'm feeling like I'm really something, that old C.H. can still speak through time and space, and put me in my place! God is totally sovereign! For me anyway, It takes the pressure off knowing that we don't "need" to understand all of God's precepts. Job 38:4 "Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding," God bless John |

1432 | Jacob's Ladders,stairway in the dream | John 1:51 | stjohn | 195020
Hi Michael, Please have a look at this. Matt 7:13 "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 "For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it. Christ Jesus is the only way! I believe you can you see that Jesus is the "Gate" to Heaven for believers. All of scripture points to our redeemer Jesus Christ, I believe that Jacob must have known, and recognized that it was indeed God that was speaking to him in his dream, so he called it, (i.e, that place) The House of God, and the ladder, a picture of our redeemer, Christ Jesus, is our gateway to heaven. God bless John |

1434 | How many angels fell with Satan | Revelation | stjohn | 195012
Hi Michael, It's no big deal but, I'm wondering what rev 12:4 and Dan 8:10 have to do with how many of Satins minions fell with him? Rev 12:4 speaks of one third of the (stars) being swept away with the dragon's tail, and Dan 8:10 says that the horn of a goat knocks out (some stars).... Am I missing something, Is there a conection with stars and fallin angles? God bless John |
