801 | What do we need to know about God | John 17:3 | srbaegon | 208539
Hello jamison, You might consider recanting these "outside the box" statements for a couple of reasons. 1. You understand Scripture as well as the Pharisees if you think Jesus was "outside the box." A thorough study of the Old Testament would should he was in the middle of God's box, just not the Pharisees' box. 2. What is now considered orthodoxy has been built up over 2000 years being based on the apostolic teaching and carried on as one shares with faithful men who teach others (2 Tim 2:2). Several throughout history have chosen to cast this history aside with generally disastrous results in their lives and those they lead astray. Steve |

802 | Is there intelligent life on earth? | John 17:17 | srbaegon | 142930
Hello BradK, If the Bible becomes stale and familiar, the problem is the reader, not the text. Explaining it in a cultural context is worthwhile, but leave the text alone. Steve |

803 | Is there intelligent life on earth? | John 17:17 | srbaegon | 143087
Hello Doc, I've been following the exchange here. I confess to not remembering (nor finding now) your scripture references that state preaching as an important part of worship. Can you point it out to me? Thanks. Steve |

804 | Is there intelligent life on earth? | John 17:17 | srbaegon | 143090
Hello kalos, This verse doesn't state that preaching is an important part of worship. It states the importance that the early believers gave to all the facets of being a church. Steve |

805 | Is there intelligent life on earth? | John 17:17 | srbaegon | 143130
Hello kalos, We wouldn't know. My point is that worship does not require preaching any more than preaching requires worship. Each can stand alone. Steve |

806 | Is there intelligent life on earth? | John 17:17 | srbaegon | 143131
Hello Doc, Sorry to hear about the fever. :-( I'll be praying for you. Acts 2:42 that makes any link between preaching and worship. As I told Kalos just now in a different branch of this thread, preaching and worship can each stand alone, so there must not be a requirement to join them even though the early church did. Steve |

807 | Is Jesus still a man or was a man? | John 20:29 | srbaegon | 56952
Hello Santo If I may add to Estelle's answer: 1 Tim. 2:5 (ESV) For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, Hebrews 2:14-17 (ESV) Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, [15] and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. [16] For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. [17] Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 809 | When did the day of worship change? | Acts | srbaegon | 18815
So you are saying the early church was wrong in what they did. I find it odd, then, that God would correct Ananias and Sapphira so stringently, and yet let this matter go unchecked even from the day of Pentecost. Steve |

810 | When did the day of worship change? | Acts | srbaegon | 18896
No, you have not been rude or vague. Just incorrect. As has been stated before, there ARE verses that tell us the Sabbaths are no longer required to be kept. Steve |

Hello Grace and Truth I take exception to your statements. Baptism of the Holy Spirit 1 Cor. 12:13 (ESV) For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—-Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—-and all were made to drink of one Spirit. Spiritual gifts given Romans 12:6-8 (ESV) Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; [7] if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; [8] the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. 1 Cor. 12:4-11 (ESV) Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; [5] and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; [6] and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. [7] To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. [8] To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, [9] to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, [10] to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. [11] All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. 1 Peter 4:10-11 (ESV) As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: [11] whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Steve |

812 | TKO, Is 1 Cor 14:26-28 followed? | Acts | srbaegon | 49014
Hello TKO You said: "The devil can 'NOT' do what the Holy Spirit dose in us!" I disagree. Here are three instances where the signs of God were copied. Exodus 7:11 (ESV) Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the magicians of Egypt, also did the same by their secret arts. Exodus 7:22 (ESV) But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts. So Pharaoh's heart remained hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said. Exodus 8:7 (ESV) But the magicians did the same by their secret arts and made frogs come up on the land of Egypt. Steve |

813 | What was Paul's last miracle? | Acts | srbaegon | 49090
Hello Grace and Truth Let's look at this one thought at a time. "Eph.4:5 say's there is one baptism!" -- Agreed, but I think we may differ on what type of baptism it is--water or Spirit. "If spiritual gifts have not ceased, and there were nine gifts which ones still exist." -- Tongues, interpretation, prophecy, and knowledge (1 Cor 13:8). "I'm just puzzled that so many people are hung-up on something that the bible say's was done away with after the complete word of God has been revealed. Unless we missed something some where." -- I don't see how spiritual gifts (except as noted above) or the baptism of the Spirit have ended since these seem to be necessary for proper church functioning (1 Cor 12). "I've been around people who say they speak in tounges, but what I heard just mock my Lords name. Tounges in the bible is speaking a language not your own." -- I've heard the same, and I agree completely. Steve |

Hello Grace and Truth Your definition is close but needs some adjustment. According to your last sentence, Paul was not an apostle. The definition I have been taught is 3-fold: a) walked with the Lord (Gal 1); b) was witness of His resurrection (Acts 9); c) was commissioned by Jesus to go out (Acts 9). Steve |

Hello TKO Walk with the Lord: Paul wrote the following-- 1 Cor. 11:23 (ESV) For I received from the Lord... 1 Cor. 15:3-4 (ESV) For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received... 1 Cor. 15:51 (ESV) Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, Ephes. 3:3 (ESV) how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. So, when did he get all this learning? The logical place was Arabia. Galatians 1:15-17 (ESV) But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles...I went away into Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. Commission: Acts 9:15-16 (ESV) But the Lord said to [Ananias], "Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. [16] For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name." Steve |

820 | Holy Spirit without evidence of tongues? | Acts | srbaegon | 74338
Hello cajam The gift of the Holy Spirit is given to all believers (Eph 1:13-14). The filling of the Holy Spirit is given at different times as needed to accomplish the work. Yes, one can receive the Holy Spirit without speaking in tongues, as BradK has mentioned. Steve |
