41 | Which teaching | Matt 14:29 | mbooker | 65857
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? I confess that I was tickled at your warning: 'Enter this thread at your own risk' and I chose not to resist the urge pull out the above from my arsenal :). Thanks for answering my question. It appears to me that the reasons Peter began to sank were because 1. he became afraid 2. he was of little faith and 3. he doubted Do you see anything else or something different? Meredith |

Good Morning Pastor Glenn When you pointed out the fact that Peter took his eyes off Jesus I thought of this passage of scripture: My son, attend to my words; incline your ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from you a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from you. Let your eyes look right on, and let your eyelids look straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove your foot from evil. Prov 4:20-27 A heart of unbelief is referred to as evil in Heb 3:12. What I get out of this is: As long as I attend to God's Word and incline my ear to his sayings, faith will come (faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Rom 10:17). I also see that while 'in the boat', it may be easier to trust and stay focused on the Word (Jesus), but once I step in the mist of the ‘boisterous wind’, I REALLY need to be steadfast in attending to, inclining my ear to and looking right on at the Word (Jesus), so that I won’t be ‘O thou of little faith’ but will be more like the woman of Canaan who had great faith: And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. Matt 15: 22-28 Meredith |

Good Morning Pastor Glenn Just this morning I was thinking about the Canaanite woman and the fact that she did not have a covenant relationship with God as the Jews had. She was indeed an 'outsider'. Naaman is definitely a good example of an outsider receiving from Jehovah Rapha. I believed that he believed the report of the little maid from Isreal: And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy. 2 Kings 5:3 I believe that Naaman and the Canaanite woman, outsiders, were able to receive what they desired because they believed/had faith. The following shows some ‘insiders’ who did not receive from the Lord because of their unbelief: And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. Matt 13:54-58 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching. Luke 6:1-6 I agree that it’s sad when an outsider seems to trust our Father more than we do. My prayer is that we, the children of the Most High God: 1. will be as bold as lions Prov 28:1 2. will come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Heb 4:16 3. will not be guilty of having an evil heart of unbelief Heb 3:12 4. will mix the word with faith so that it may profit us Heb 4:2 5. and finally, may we believe so that we can enter into the rest of God Heb 4:3 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you Meredith |

Good Morning Brother Tim I have prayed for your daughter, granddaughter, and even the boyfriend. I have prayed for you that you would count it all joy during this trial, that you know that the trying of your faith works patience, that you let patience have her perfect work so that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. May you and your family be strong in the power of His might. Meredith |

47 | can anyone explain ? Mat 25.24 | Matt 25:24 | mbooker | 73367
Good Morning gracefull... Your post was an uplift for me today :) Just this morning before I got out of bed, I told Abba Father that I wanted to obey Him, not because I want to avoid all the bad stuff that comes with disobedience (ie fear), but I want to obey him because I love him. Then I was reminded of a scripture that I came across in a bible study: And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live. Deut 30:6 Grace and peace be multiplied to you :) Meredith |

50 | A Good Baptist | Luke 10:29 | mbooker | 95397
Thanks Hank for your response. Please forgive me for not being able to discern your meaning of a 'good Baptist'. Besides being ‘simple in speech and not as seasoned as most on this board’ as my sister Vehoka is, I have learned over the past few years to slow my roll when someone makes a statement and my mind processes it and comes to its own conclusions as to what the speaker (or in this case writer) means by his statement. For me, this is especially important when I do not have a more intimate or face-to-face connection with the speaker/writer. If the statement is of interest to me, I will dialogue/ask questions to discern whether or not my conclusion is correct. The ‘good Baptist’ statement interested me, as I mentioned in my original post, because I attend a Baptist church and the statement gave me a chuckle. I had no consternation over what you meant by ‘good Baptist’, only humorous curiosity because, as I said previously, I attend a Baptist church and your statement reminded me of what my boss said once. While I did not think you were being self-righteously or rigidly denominational, your statement also reminded of a question of mine that is still in need of an answer: Why do we have denominations and are they scriptural? I put the denominations question out there in hopes that someone would/could give me an answer or point me in the right direction. Thanks again for taking your time to add your explanatory footnote. One more question, is the ‘Baptist Faith and Message’ written somewhere that I can read it? Thanks again Grace and peace to you Meredith |

55 | Where do they go | Luke 23:46 | mbooker | 66037
Thanks so much for your response Brother Tim!! You were clear and I was able to follow you. The reason your statement prompted me to ask my question was because it (your statement) sounded similiar to what a Jehovah's Witness said to me once. She said that the dead are asleep and I could not reconcile that with Luke 16:20-31. I understand what you are saying. The wicked dead go to Sheol/Hades to await judgement. Now, my question is :) Are those who are presently in the punishment side of Sheol/Hades 1. 'in torments' (v23) and 2. 'tormented in this flame' (v24) as the rich man was? That's what I am trying to understand. If the wicked dead are in a peaceful sleep or are they in torment in Sheol/Hades. thanks again for your time Meredith |

56 | Did Jesus suffer in hell when he died? | Luke 23:46 | mbooker | 66164
Good Morning EdB Did Jesus, by his own blood, enter in once into the holy place (Heb 9:12), after he died or after he was resurrected. I ask because of the following passages of scripture: Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. John 20:16-17 Here, after his resurrection, Mary could not touch Jesus because he had not yet ascended to the Father. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. John 20:26-27 But here, he told Thomas to thrust his hand into his side, which leads me to believe that by this time he had ascended to the Father. Meredith |

58 | is jesus god? | John 1:1 | mbooker | 56467
Hi BradK Not sure what you mean by 'what background am I' but I grew up in what I guess you would call a traditional baptist church. At the age of 24 (I think it was 24 :) ), I made my confession that Jesus is Lord and that I believed in my heart that God raised him from the dead. Since then, I've been growing up in Him. I wasn't really asking a question. I guess I was trying to express to anyone who may be a JW, that I don't put Jesus above God the Father (after talking with some JWs, I was left with the impression that they believe we place Jesus in a higher place than God the Father). I do believe Jesus Christ is God. And I do believe that God the Father and God the Son are one (John 10:30) and thus I believe in the diety of Christ. I hope my post does not sound as if I am disputing that or the truth that Jesus is God. I guess I was trying to make a distinction between God the Father and God the Son. Hope I satisfied your curiosity :) Abba Father bless and keep you... |

59 | is jesus god? | John 1:1 | mbooker | 56470
Thanks Estelle :) I will read over the scriptures you site. And I do believe Jesus and the Father are one (John 10:30). Not long after talking with the JWs about this, Heb. 1:7-9 was brought back to my memory and I said 'wait a minute. Even God call the Son God'. I went back and read and read it in context and even went to read it in Psalms. So we are both on the same page :) 'Finally, when you said snip(if Jesus's father is God (and he is), that makes him a God. Not The Most High God, but still a God), you're stating that God does in fact allow other gods to be worshipped besides Him.' After reading this, I see your point. I also see I should not have said 'a God', but just 'God'. That little a does change the meaning :)(at least to me). Thanks again for your post Abba Father bless you... :) |
