I very much appreciate your note. Yes, Rom 8:28 is still true. God is still in control. The best thing I can tell you is: God does all things perfectly and nothing happens by chance or by accident. Remember, the Lord promises that He will never leave you nor forsake you. I try to encourage you and you end up encouraging me by your faith. God bless you. In Christ we have NO unmet needs.

MARY--HONOR OR ADORATION? 'It is unfortunately true that in many Protestant circles, largely in reaction to Catholic over-emphasis on the role of the Virgin Mary, that many Protestants have failed to grasp the Bible portrait of our Lord’s mother.' Part I 'This has led to the neglect of Mary as an example in Scripture, and to many Protestants forgetting that she was the greatest woman that ever lived because she was chosen to be the mother of the Saviour of the world. It is necessary that we respect the person of the Virgin Mary, that we love her memory as a sister in Christ, and acknowledge her devotion to the Word of God and the teacher of her Son. But to honor the person of Mary for her genuine accomplishments and character, is quite a different thing from the adoration of Mary and the concept that in order to have “the full gospel of Jesus Christ” one must adopt the Roman Catholic view of the role of the Virgin Mary. Catholic and Protestant Charismatics may agree to disagree about Mary’s role but neither can afford to ignore Holy Scripture which alone defines that role. The fullness of the gospel does not involve Mary at all but instead the recognition that redemption is by grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ of whom the Virgin Mary said, “Whatever He says to you, do it (John 2:5). (...) 'It is essential that we understand, therefore, the historic Catholic view of Mary and contrast it with Biblical passages bearing on this important subject. Only by this method will we be able to ascertain whether or not the Roman Catholic view of Mary is consistent with Biblical theology, a factor which bears heavily on the concerns of the Charismatics. 'In his celebration of the Marian Year in Rome in 1950, Pope Pius XII accurately reflected the Church’s view of the Virgin Mary in his pontifical prayer. (...) 'This prayer is particularly interesting when contrasted with the teaching of the man Catholics believe to be the first Pope, Peter. In his first epistle, the Apostle wrote that we are to “cast all our care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). The substitution of Mary for Christ in the prayer of Pope Pius XII, is sobering along with the other assertions that Mary is “a fountain of faith” and Conqueress of evil and death.” In 1950, Pope Pius XII proclaimed infallibly that the Virgin Mary’s body had been assumed into heaven without her having to pass through death, something her Son was denied. (...) 'A well-known Roman Catholic prayer substantiates the view of the Pope when it affirms that Mary is “Our life, our sweetness, and our hope.” A direct violation of the Biblical revelation that Jesus Christ is our life and our hope. Another very popular prayer among Catholics is the “Hail Mary.” In that prayer Mary is designated as “Holy Mary, Mother of God.” Thus, bestowing upon her a most exalted title. It is reasoned in Catholic theology that Jesus is God and Mary is His mother: therefore Mary is the Mother of God. This reasoning, however, is illogical and ignores the triune nature of God. Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Using the reasoning of Catholic theologians as evidenced in this prayer, God is a trinity. Mary is the Mother of God, therefore Mary is the Mother of the Trinity. This of course will be immediately denied, but it is perfectly logical, following from their own definitions. 'The term, “ Mother of God”, was not introduced to the Christian community until the Fourth Century, and even later Catholic theology bestowed upon her the title, “Queen, teacher, and sanctifier.” Both Catholic and Protestant Charismatics, however, are well aware of the fact that the Word of God sanctifies us (John 17:17 and 1 Tim. 4:5). The role of the Holy Spirit is specifically to sanctify us, to be the One who walks beside us. In the words of the Lord Jesus, “When He comes He will lead you into all truth.” In its official literature, the Roman Catholic Church has widely circulated the idea that because Mary is related to Christ, after the flesh, she therefore has some special intercessory power with Him. This idea however is at direct variance with the very words of the Lord Himself, “Whoever hears my Word and obeys it is the same to me as my mother, my brother or my sister” (Matt. 12:46-50). Since the genuine Charismatic is one who is in subjection to the Word of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit, this creates enormous problems especially when the Mary of Roman Catholicism looms large on the stage of Christian fellowship." Part II MARY -- HONOR OR ADORATION? 'Seven Steps to Deity 'Mother of God 'Any careful study of historic Catholic theology will reveal what I have termed the “Seven Steps to Deity” relative to the role of the Virgin Mary. The first step, as we have seen in Part I, is that Mary is proclaimed Mother of God rather than the mother of the physical properties of Jesus of Nazareth.' Part III MARY -- HONOR OR ADORATION? 'Seven Steps to Deity 'Immaculate Conception 'A second step to Mary’s deification by the Catholic Church is the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception, which the Church declared in 1854. This doctrine maintains that “the Virgin Mary was, in the first instance of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of God Almighty, in virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ the Savior, preserved from all stain of original sin.” The Mary of Biblical revelation, on the contrary, considers herself a sinner, “the handmaiden of the Lord,” and she rejoiced and “magnified the Lord,” while her spirit “rejoiced in God my Savior.” 'This dogma of Roman Catholic theology concerning the Virgin was rejected by Clement of Alexandria in the second century; St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo in the fourth century; St. Ambrose, St. Bernard, Peter Lombard, and Bishop Melchior Cannas (professor of Canon Law and Dogmatic Theology of Salamonica, Spain, a delegate theologian to the Council of Trent). Others, including Popes, rejected it. St. Antoninus and Pope Leo I are notable for their dissent. Said Pope Leo: 'The Lord Jesus Christ alone among the sons of men was born without sin.” 'Pope Gallatus stated, “It belongs alone to the immaculate to have no sin at all.” 'And Pope Gregory I stated, “Christ alone was truly born holy.” 'One simply cannot ignore Pope Innocent III: “Eve was produced without sin but she brought forth in sin, Mary was brought forth in sin but she brought forth without sin.” 'Time does not permit us to reproduce many quotations of this nature; but it is significant that all these theologians based their affirmations on Holy Scripture, whereas those who supported the dogmas which point to Mary’s exalted role in Catholic Church theology rested their case largely upon tradition. We dare not to forget the words of the Apostle Paul: “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), which, when linked with his further statement, “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23), clearly teaches that only the flesh of Jesus Christ is free from the condemnation of sin and death. Part IV MARY -- HONOR OR ADORATION? 'Seven Steps to Deity 'Perpetual Virginity "In the third step, the Roman Catholic Church further teaches the doctrine of Mary’s perpetual virginity. This doctrine maintains that at no time did Mary ever have any sexual relations with Joseph, nor did she have any other children. It was St. Jerome in 337 A.D. who declared her to be “blessed Mary, always virgin” - something the Bible never stated. In fact, the Bible flatly contradicts it (see Matthew 1:25; 12:46-50; 13:55. 56; Mark 3:31-35; Luke 8:19-21; John 7:3, 5, 10; and Galatians 1:19). The Scriptures even insist that James be uniquely identified as “the Lord’s brother.” 'The doctrine of Mary’s perpetual virginity in Catholic thinking sets her apart uniquely as an illustration of purity, paralleling our Lord’s sinlessness. Part V MARY -- HONOR OR ADORATION? 'Seven Steps to Deity 'Co-Redemptrix and Mediatrix of All Graces 'Steps four and five in Roman Catholic teaching which suggest her possible deity are Mary’s inclusion as a partner in the atonement and mediatorial office of Christ. These teachings have received much publicity, and Mary is known as Co-redemptrix of the Universe and Mediatrix of All Graces. These dogmas maintain that Mary works with Christ for mass salvation by virtue of the fact that she bore Him for the salvation of mankind. This view is ably set forth in the Catholic book, The Five Encyclicals, in the section headed “Mary, Mediatrix,” which carries the approval of Bishop Boylan of Paterson, New Jersey. The phrase “to Jesus through Mary” also appears many times in Catholic publications, and Catholics are frequently urged to “go through Mary” to get to Christ. '“As Mediator, Jesus Christ has a three-fold office: He is King, Teacher, and Priest. Mary as Mediatrix shares in this threefold office. She is Queen, teacher, and sanctifier. She rules over us, teaches us and sanctifies us. Next to Christ, she is the foundation of our faith” (The Five Encyclicals). 'St. Paul reminds us that we are “... built upon the foundation of the apostles and the prophets . . . Jesus Christ being the chief cornerstone” (Ephesians 2:20). The Lord Jesus Christ is proclaimed the “Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). He alone is Redeemer. Nothing is anywhere taught in the New Testament to vaguely suggest that Mary or anyone else has a role in this. In the first chapter of the Epistle to the Hebrews the writer tell us that Christ “by himself” purged us of our sins; and “sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (v. 3). If the Lord Jesus accomplished this by Himself, as the inspired writer said, that is sufficient to rule out any role of the Virgin Mary. 'Mary is often described as not only Co-redemptrix but Mediatrix of all Graces. This places her on an equal plane with Christ, so that although the Bible declares Him to be the only Mediator (I Timothy 2:5), Catholic teaching still affirms that Mary is Mediatrix.' Part VI MARY -- HONOR OR ADORATION? 'Seven Steps to Deity 'Assumption into Heaven "In step 6 Mary’s role in a redemptive and mediatorial capacity rests upon the Catholic dogma that she was assumed bodily into Heaven, paralleling, of course, the ascension of the resurrected Christ. First Corinthians 15 instructs us that the resurrection of Christ is the cornerstone of Christianity. If Christ is not resurrected from the dead, we are of all men most miserable because we are still in our sins. By paralleling His resurrection and ascension, and declaring that Mary entered Heaven bodily, she is again portrayed in terms of divinity. 'We are also informed in Sentine that only God has immortality (I Timothy 6:16) and that this is shared with the Lord Jesus Christ through His resurrection from the dead in an imperishable body. If Mary were assumed bodily into Heaven, then she would possess an immortal body prior to the resurrection, something totally foreign to the context of I Corinthians 15. Immortality is bestowed upon the saints at the second coming of Christ (I Thessalonians 4), and is associated with the First Resurrection. The dogma of the assumption of Mary is totally inconsistent with the resurrection to immortality, and would place her in possession of a glorified body similar to our Lord’s, thus conferring upon her what is proclaimed to be the prerogative of God alone. Part VII MARY -- HONOR OR ADORATION? 'Seven Steps to Deity 'Queen of Heaven 'In step 7, as previously noted, Catholic theology proclaims that at her assumption into Heaven, Mary was crowned “Queen of Heaven,” paralleling the title of Christ as King of Kings. Any student of comparative religion recognizes the title “Queen of Heaven” as pagan in origin, having been applied to the pagan goddesses Ashtoreth, Semiramis, Astarte, Isis, Venus and Aphrodite. (See Jeremiah 7:18. 44:17-19, 25.) The Mary of Christian theology considers herself the servant of the Lord, asserted her own need of a Savior, and urged obedience to the words of her Son. 'The Seven Steps to Deity cannot be ignored, for as long as they are accorded such prominence in Catholic theology, they must constitute a serious deterrent to the full function of Charismatic renewal and, in some instances, fellowship.' Part VIII MARY -- HONOR OR ADORATION? (Conclusion) 'Seven Steps to Deity 'The Voice of Mary? 'To underscore the importance of the emerging role of Mary in Catholic literature, one need only examine a recent book, a product of the Marian movement of priests, entitled Our Lady Speaks to Her Be1oved Priests. This material purports to be a collection of messages communicated by Mary from 1973 to 1977. The messages were dictated to an anonymous priest to whom Mary allegedly said: '“It is I who live, suffer, pray and act through a priest who has consecrated himself to my immaculate heart” (p. 89). 'The Virgin Mary allegedly stated: “My Son, how you need your Mother! She alone can understand and help you. She alone can hear you. She alone, through her Divine Plan, can snatch you from the hand of Satan and save you. Have recourse to me again, and I will be your salvation” (p. 88). 'It is evident from the preceding quotation that Mary’s role as Savior is accelerating to a place where it can be stated: '“Nothing shall be of interest or importance to you save living for me and with me... It is through your weakness that my strength will be manifested. It is through your nothingness that my power will be known.” 'The end-product of such teaching Cannot be ignored. it is nothing less than the absorption and possession of “Her Beloved Priests.” '“I will take possession of their lives, and gently I will transform them... Learn to let yourself be possessed by me, so that everything that you do will be done by me through you. It is necessary that the Mother act, and I want to act through you.” 'Such language is reminiscent of the world of the occult, not the theology of the New Testament. The one thing that Catholic Charismatics do not need is the world of the occult masquerading as Charismatic mysticism, imitating, and at length, discrediting the genuine movement of the Holy Spirit within the Catholic Charismatic renewal. With chilling clarity the Marian movement endorses total subjugation to Mary: '“If you remain in the garden of my Immaculate Heart, you become my property. Thus no one can ever take you away from me, because I am your defense. You must always feel that you have security. You must no longer fear either Satan or the world or the frailty of your nature ... I can defend you against the evil one, who can do nothing to harm those who are part of my property” (p. 204). 'Biblical theology underscores the fact that Jesus Christ is our defense and our security, and that Satan responds to Him, and Him alone. This is evidenced by the fact that exorcisms in the Catholic Church are done exclusively in the name of Jesus Christ, not in the name nor by the authority of Mary. She has no power over the demon world of possession. 'Let us strive, therefore, to proclaim the historic gospel of Jesus Christ which exalts Him as Savior and Lord. Let Protestant and Catholic Charismatics stand upon the unshakeable foundation of New Testament revelation. Let us together share in the fellowship of the redeemed, and turn away from all other voices and teaching not consistent with “the faith once for all delivered unto the saints” (Jude 3).' 3971 | Denying the Master | 2 Peter | kalos | 1042
2 Peter 2:1" 'who bought them.' The terms which Peter used here are more analogical than theological, speaking of a human master over a household. The master bought slaves, and the slaves owed the master allegiance as their sovereign. (For an OT parallel, see Deut. 32:5,6, where God is said to have bought Israel, though they rejected Him.). . . ." Doctrinally, this analogy can be viewed as responsibility for submission to God which the false teachers had refused. Beyond this, they are probably claiming that they were Christians," and "that the Lord had bought them actually and personally. With some sarcasm, Peter mocks such a claim by writing of their coming damnation. Thus, the passage is describing the sinister character of the false teachers who claim Christ, but deny His lordship over their lives." . . . Verse 20 is part of the verses that make up chapter 2. In v. 20, the word "they" is a pronoun. Every pronoun must have an antecedent (a noun to which it refers). To find the antecedent, you have to keep reading what comes before the antecedent until you find the noun. In this case, the antecedent of "they" (v. 20) is "false teachers" (v. 1). . . . If this answer is too complex, remedial reading classes for adults are offered at many public schools and colleges. Or you may want to read chapter 2 in one of those new versions intended for the illiterate and the subliterate. . . . If you use an exhaustive concordance for the NIV, you too will come up with 250 occurences of the words elect, election, choose, chose, and chosen. You will also find the word "freewill" occurs a total of 22 times in the Bible. Stop riding me about the number of times the above words appear in the Bible. It's a simple matter of statistics, not interpretation. . . . Thank you for getting through one entire question of yours without mentioning the word Calvinism or Calvinist. |

I see that absolutely nothing has changed since then. --kalos) It is inaccurate to suggest that the score is 2 to 1 or that "this is merely how MacArthur sees it." No Calvinist would interpret Heb 6 to mean that a Christian can lose his salvation. Just as no Arminian would interpret it to mean the believer is eternally secure. So the underlying debate here is Calvinism vs Arminianism. Rather than being debated among 3 people in one century, this question has been debated by hundreds of preachers, teachers, scholars and students for many centuries. So it may be more accurate to say the score is 999 to 998. Will the forumites agree upon a solution to this question in a few days? I doubt that any 3 of us could agree on where to go for lunch. :-) |

You write: "God will not punish the innocent." But where in the Bible does it say that ignorance of the Law is an excuse for sinning? True, God does not punish the innocent. But, according to Romans 3:10, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one". And Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." So, does God punish the innocent? No. But who is without sin? "For all have sinned...". Grace to you, Kalos |

Benny Hinn IN HIS OWN WORDS - Quotes - 'I am a 'little messiah' walking the earth' Benny Hinn, "Praise-a-Thon" on , November 6, 1990 'Adam was a super being when God created him. I don't know whether people know this, but he was the first Superman that really ever lived. First of all, the Scriptures declare clearly that he had dominion over the fowls of the air, the fish of the sea - which means he used to fly. Of course, how can he have dominion over the birds and not be able to do what they do? The word "dominion" in the Hebrew clearly declares that if you have dominion over a subject, that you do everything that subject does. In other words, that subject, if it does someting you cannot do, you don't have dominion over it. I'll prove it further. Adam not only flew, he flew to space. He was-with one thought he would be on the moon.' Benny Hinn, Praise the Lord program on , December 26, 1991 'Man, I feel revelation knowledge already coming on me here. Lift your hands. Something new is going to happen here today. I felt it just as I walked down here. Holy Spirit, take over in the name of Jesus... God the Father, ladies and gentlemen, is a person; and He is a triune being by Himself separate from the Son and the Holy Ghost. Say, what did you say? Hear it, hear it, hear it. See, God the Father is a person, God the Son is a person, God the Holy Ghost is a person. But each one of them is a triune being by Himself. If I can shock you - and maybe I should - there's nine of them. Huh, what did you say? Let me explain: God the Father, ladies and gentlemen, is a person with his own personal spirit, with his own personal soul, and his own personal spirit-body. 'You say, Huh, I never heard that. Well you think you're in this church to hear things you've heard for the last 50 years?' Benny Hinn, Benny Hinn program on October 3, 1991 'God came from heaven, became a man, made man into little gods, went back to heaven as a man. He faces the Father as a man. I face devils as the son of God... Quit your nonsense! What else are you? If you say, I am, you're saying I'm a part of Him, right? Is he God? Are you His offspring? Are you His children? You can't be human! You can't! You can't! God didn't give birth to flesh. You said, "Well, that's heresy." No, that's your crazy brain saying that.' Benny Hinn, Our Position in Christ #2-The Word Made Flesh (Orlando: Orlando Christian Center, 1991), videotape #255. 'And let me add this: Had the Holy Spirit not been with Jesus, He would have sinned. That,s right, it was the Holy Spirit that was the power that kept Him pure. He was not only sent from heaven, but He was called the Son of Man - and as such He was capable of sinning... Without the Holy Ghost, Jesus would have never have made it...Can you imagine Christ headed for the grave, knowing He would remain there forever, if the Holy Ghost would change His mind about raising Him from the dead?' Benny Hinn, Good Morning, Holy Spirit (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1990), 135-36. 'Ladies and gentlemen, the serpent is a symbol of Satan. Jesus Christ knew the only way He would stop Satan is by becoming one in nature with him. You say, "What did you say? What blasphemy is this?" No, you hear this! He did not take my sin; He became my sin. Sin is the nature of hell. Sin is what made Satan... It was sin that made Satan. Jesus said, "I'll be sin! I'll go to the lowest place! I'll go to the origin of it! I won't just take part in it, I'll be the totality of it!" When Jesus became sin, sir, He took it from A to Z and said, "No more!" Think about this: He became flesh, that flesh might become like Him. He became death, so dying man can live. He became sin, so sinners can be righteous in Him. He became one with the nature of Satan, so all those who had the nature of Satan can partake of the nature of God.' Benny Hinn, Benny Hinn program on (December 15, 1990). 'My, you know, whoosh! The Holy Ghost is just showing me some stuff. I'm getting dizzy! I'm telling you the truth - it's, it's just heavy right now on me... He's [referring to Jesus] in the underworld now. God isn't there, the Holy Ghost isn't there, and the Bible says He was begotten. Do you know what the word begotten means? It means reborn. Do you want another shocker? Have you been begotten? So was He. Don't let anyone deceive you. Jesus was reborn. You say, 'What are you talking about?'... He was reborn. He had to be reborn... If He was not reborn, I could not be reborn, I would never be reborn. How can I face Jesus and say, "Jesus, You went through everything I've gone through, except the new birth?'
