881 | are we to observe all feast days? | Zech 14:16 | kalos | 159703
Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, [26] for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. [27] And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, [28] so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. "no longer any offering for sin" NASB Hebrews 10:18 Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin. AMPLIFIED Hebrews 10:18 Now where there is absolute remission (forgiveness and cancellation of the penalty) of these [sins and lawbreaking], there is no longer any offering made to atone for sin. 'there is no more offering for sin; there may be other offerings, as of praise and thanksgiving, but none for sin; "there is no need", as the Syriac version; or there is not required, as the Arabic version; there is no need of the reiteration of Christ's sacrifice, nor will he be offered up any more, nor of the repetition of legal sacrifices, nor ought they to continue any longer. The Jews themselves say [F23], that '"in the time to come (i.e. in the times of the Messiah) all offerings shall cease, but the sacrifice of praise." 883 | Questions for a Pretribulationist | Matt 24:22 | kalos | 159402
Questions...(Conclusion) 'Questions for a Pretribulationist 'By Robert Van Kampen and Rev. Roger Best (...) CONCLUSION 'We realize that there are many views concerning prophecy. However, there is a major disagreement by sincere men of God over every position one chooses to take and be dogmatic about. If one employs the proper hermeneutic (consistent literal interpretation), truth can be known by those willing to study to show themselves approved, by rightly dividing the Word of God. But truth is truth no matter who agrees or disagrees, or how sincere their motives. So it is with end-time theology. The truth of what is being taught is Scripture is so simple. What are complex and confusing about the coming of Christ are the systems and traditions of men which have absolutely no biblical basis. Men and their wishful thinking make the issues concerning the last days confusing, which aids the cause of Satan who cannot afford to have the Church prepared for the last days. Satan will do all he can to keep men out of the Book of Genesis, upon which fact all men will be held accountable (Rom. 1:20). He will also do all he can to keep men out of the Book of Revelation, because end-time events, in particular the "hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell upon the earth" (Rev. 3:10), will determine what will happen to Satan (Rev. 20:2) and who will rule the world (Rev. 11:15). 'Well, you have seen our heart, our passion, and why we are driven the way we are, especially as we see the compromised condition of the Church today and know the cost of being unprepared. Our prayer is that the Church will not be "surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing; so that also at the revelation of His glory, you may rejoice with exultation" (1 Pet. 4:12-13) rather than "shrink away from Him in shame at His coming" (1 Jn. 2:28). We realize the battle that we are in, yet we know that God has given us the grace to overcome whatever hardships go with the territory. Yet we have the quiet peace that what we do [is done] for the sheep we are commanded to shepherd, based upon the authority of Scripture that we teach them "to observe all that I [Christ] command you; and lo I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Praise God.' ____________________ To read more, including questions that concern pretribulationism, go to: www.solagroup.org/articles/ endtimes/et_0006.html |

884 | Questions for a Pretribulationist | Matt 24:22 | kalos | 159401
'Questions for a Pretribulationist 'By Robert Van Kampen and Rev. Roger Best 'INTRODUCTION '...The prewrath position on the timing of the rapture of the Church is often questioned, especially by pretribulationists. Many find it difficult to give up their traditions, what they have been taught, or perhaps what they have taught. The prewrath position is simply an enhancement of the historical position held by the early church fathers. The pretribulation position, on the other hand, is a relatively new position, first gaining popularity in the late nineteenth century. Those who attack the prewrath position, more times than not, have never read The Sign because either they never considered the position or they fear the consequences if they adopted the position, consequences they were unwilling to endure. For these reasons, they aggressively try to shoot the position down without really understanding it and how it is arrived at via the teaching of Christ and Paul. 'Because of several books and articles that have been written against the prewrath position by Christians which dogmatically maintain that they take Scripture for what it says, we have compiled a list of a few of the problems with pretribulationism. These must be answered both logically and biblically if one is to have real biblical integrity concerning the view he is espousing. Perhaps this list of issues will be helpful to those who are asking us, "How do we get our pretrib pastor to honestly consider the problems associated with what he is teaching?" After all, it is the lives of the flock they are told to shepherd and protect that are directly at risk if their position is wrong. If pretribulationism is true, these problems must be answered honestly from Scripture with logical, unforced answers that do not contradict other passages. Biblical truth does not spawn confusion. If, however, pretribulationism cannot be clearly argued and substantiated from Scripture, pastors must have the right to teach their conscience on this matter without the fear of reprisal from their fellowship leaders. Lives of God's elect are at stake (Mt. 24:21-22), not some remote doctrine that will have no severe consequences if one is wrong. Without going into any great depth, here are a few questions that concern pretribulationism...' ____________________ To read more, including questions that concern pretribulationism, go to: www.solagroup.org/articles/ endtimes/et_0006.html |

885 | When does the wrath of God begin? | Rev 6:17 | kalos | 159388
When does the Day of the Lord begin? 'When does the eschatological Day of the Lord begin? 'While we don't know the exact day and hour of the rapture of the church or the onset of God's wrath, Scripture gives us at least six precursors that must happen before the Day of the Lord can begin. The Day of the Lord will begin: '1. AFTER the apostasy and revealing of the man of lawlessness '2. AFTER the persecution of Antichrist (Great Tribulation) '3. AFTER the opening of the 6th Seal '4. AFTER the rapture of the church '5. AFTER the "last trump", the "trump of God" is blown '6. AFTER the coming of Elijah' (To read more go to: http://solagroup.org/articles/ endtimes/ep_0013.html) "Wail, for the day of the LORD is near! It will come as destruction from the Almighty... Behold, the day of the LORD is coming, cruel, with fury and burning anger, to make the land a desolation; and He will exterminate its sinners from it... I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity... Therefore I shall make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken from its place at the fury of the LORD of hosts in the day of His burning anger." (Isaiah 13:6-13) 'The Day of the Lord 'The Day of the Lord is a very significant event in God's program for the End Times. The phrase "the Day of the Lord" appears about twenty-one times in the Old Testament and six times in the New Testament. In all but a few cases it refers to a time yet future. Adding together all the synonymous phrases such as "that day," "the Day of Christ," and "the Day of God," there are over 100 references that refer to a future time when God will intervene in history. Indeed, it is the most prophesied event in all of Scripture. With so much written about the Day of the Lord in the Bible, it is crucial that we understand what the Day of the Lord is all about, and when this Day will occur. In this article, we will ask several key questions about the Day of the Lord. As we will discover in our study, understanding the Day of the Lord is the key that will unlock the timing of the rapture of the Church.' ____________________ To read more go to: http://solagroup.org/articles/ endtimes/ep_0013.html |

886 | When does the wrath of God begin? | Rev 6:17 | kalos | 159387
'When does the wrath of God begin?' 'By Rev. Roger Best 'This is a vital question since we as believers are promised deliverance from God's wrath. In 1 Thessalonians 1:10 we are told "to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come." And again in 1 Thessalonians 5:9, "For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation (deliverance) through our Lord Jesus Christ." In the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24) and in Luke 17 Jesus tells us that His coming will be like it was in the days of Noah and Lot. The same day that Noah and his family entered the ark (Gen 7:11-13) the rains came, and as Lot retreated from Sodom and Gomorrah judgment came. That same pattern of timing will occur when Christ returns for us; we will be taken and then judgment - the wrath of God - will come upon the earth. 'The period of the wrath of God is spoken of in Scripture as "The Day of the Lord." In Amos 5:20 the day of the Lord is spoken of as a day of darkness and gloom. In Zephaniah 1:14-15 it says, "Near is the great day of the Lord, near and coming very quickly; listen, the day of the Lord! In it the warrior cries out bitterly. A day of wrath is that day, a day of trouble and distress, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness." The day of the Lord is the day of God's wrath. 'In 1 Thessalonians 5 the Apostle Paul writes that to the believer the day of the Lord will not come like a thief in the night; in fact, the admonition is to be alert and serious. Then in 2 Thessalonians 2 Paul says that the day of the Lord will not come until "the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God" (2 Thessalonians 2:3b - 4). Now with that in mind, we go to Matthew 24 and see in verses 22, 29, 30, and 31 that Christ cuts the persecution of Antichrist short with His coming for the saints. The disciples had asked, "What is the sign of your coming and the end of the age?" (v. 3), and Jesus explains what will take place. The sign of His coming is the heavens lighting up like lightning, and the sign of the end of the age is the cosmic disturbance that results in the sun, moon, and stars going dark. We see this occurrence at the sixth seal in Revelation 6 and see that it fits exactly with what Joel 2:31 says: "The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes." 'At the opening of the sixth seal we see Jesus Christ coming in the clouds for the saints, followed immediately by the wrath of God. The first five seals which are on the outside of the scroll are broken and non-supernatural events (false christs, war, famine, death and martyrdom) take place with a greater intensity than ever before. Revelation 12:12 speaks of this persecution by Antichrist as Satan's wrath, but when the seventh seal is broken the scroll is opened and Revelation 8:1 tells us that "there was silence in heaven for about a half hour." Why? Because all of heaven knows that it is time for God's wrath. As the seven trumpets are blown and the seven bowls are poured out, the events that take place are supernatural as God's judgment falls upon planet earth.' ____________________ http://solagroup.org/ articles/faqs/faq_0003.html |

ARE THESE THE LAST DAYS? by Ray C. Stedman ____________________ "...Scripture itself makes very clear that the last days began with the first coming of Jesus." ____________________ 'Are these the last days? 'It is easy to answer that question with a hasty, "Yes." It is easy to compile from the Scriptures a few dramatic descriptive passages that would make most of us say today, "This is it. We are facing those very conditions." But I am rendered cautious in doing that, first, because I know that historically this has been done scores if not hundreds of times in the past. You can read back through a few generations of Christian life and for the last three centuries, at least, there have been groups that were absolutely sure that their days were the last days. Some of them even set dates for the return of Christ. Other groups have been sure, as they observed the appearances of their own times, that these were the days before the return of the Lord. Yet we know that all of them were wrong. Therefore, it ought to be a caution to us, it ought to give us pause, before we do the same thing in our own times and immediately pronounce that we are in the last days. 'Furthermore, I am made cautious by the fact that Scripture itself makes very clear that the last days began with the first coming of Jesus. There is a very strong sense in Scripture that for twenty centuries we have been living in the last days -- that these last days began with the coming of Christ. When Scripture uses the term, "the last days," it is not talking about the time immediately before Christ returns; it is speaking of the whole period of time in which the life of the church has been going on, some 2,000 years. 'Let me show you some of the passages that reveal that. Sometimes Bible teachers are not very fair in their use of Scripture. They tend to pick up a few passages here and there and call these the last days. They ignore other passages that speak very clearly about what these last days truly are. In the opening words of the letter to the Hebrews the writer begins in this way: 'In many and various ways God spoke of old to our fathers by the prophets; but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. (Hebrews 1:1-2 RSV) 'There is the very phrase, "these last days." The writer says they began when Jesus appeared and spoke to men in his first coming, therefore the last days are still continuing. The writer sees them as going on until the ultimate end predicted in the Scripture; the whole period is known as "these last days." 'Another well-known passage is found in the letter to the Romans. The Apostle Paul writing from Corinth, says in Chapter 13, Verse 11: 'Besides this you know what hour it is, how it is full time now for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed; the night is far gone, the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; (Romans 13:11-12 RSV) 'It is clear from that that Paul speaks as though the end were almost upon the people of his day. "The night is far gone, the day is at hand. The hour has come," he says, "when our salvation, which we have been looking for, is almost upon us." Yet that was written in the 1st century. Twenty centuries of time have gone on since then. In First Peter, Chapter 4, Verse 7, Peter puts it very bluntly: 'The end of all things is at hand. (1 Peter 4:7 RSV) 'Again, this was written to those in the 1st century. Now either we have to believe that the Bible is mistaken about this, or we have to understand that the Biblical phrase, "the last days," does not mean the immediate end before the return of Christ; it covers a longer period. In this sense, therefore, it is perfectly proper to answer our question this morning, "Yes, we definitely are in the last days," but we have been there for twenty centuries.' In Acts 2:17 the phrase "'last days' refers to the present era of redemptive history from the first coming of Christ (Heb 1:2; 1 Pet 1:20; 1 John 2:18) to his return." (p. 1636, MacArthur Study Bible, Word Publishing, 1997). "LAST DAYS. In the passage quoted from Joel the Hebrew has 'after this' and the Septuagint 'after these things.' Peter interprets the passage as referring specifically to the latter days of the new covenant in contrast to the former days of the old covenant." At the time of Acts chapter 2, "the age of Messianic fulfillment" had "arrived." (p. 1575, Zondervan NASB Study Bible, edited by Kenneth Barker, Zondervan, 1999) "Last Day(s), Latter Days, Last Times. There are problems with the terminology of 'the latter days' in that, for example, the King James Version quite often refers to 'the latter days,' an expression not found in modern translations. Further, it is not always clear whether 'the latter days' means a somewhat later period than that of the writer or the latest times of all, the end of the world. There are also expressions that locate the day being discussed in the time of the speaker. Care is needed as we approach the passages that use these terms." You ask: Where does this day of Pentecost fall in relation to the biblcal reference "the last days"? Before this question can be answered, we need to define what is meant by the term "last days". In Acts 2:17 the phrase "'last days' refers to the present era of redemptive history from the first coming of Christ (Heb 1:2; 1 Pet 1:20; 1 John 2:18) to his return." (p. 1636, MacArthur Study Bible, Word Publishing, 1997). Following are NT passage that include the term "last days" or "last times(s)". And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: Acts 2:17 (KJV) Hebrews 1:2 (KJV) Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 1 Peter 1:20 (KJV) Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 1 John 2:18 (KJV) Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. 892 | What is the "Mark of the Beast"? | Rev 13:17 | kalos | 159010
What is the "Mark of the Beast"? 'This is one of the most difficult and obscure parts of the book of Revelation. It occurs seven times in the book from chapter 13 to the end. Modern Christians have tended to see this as some kind of future identification that Christians should avoid, like giving a person a number on his forehead or a microchip on his body. By requiring Christians to be marked, this would allow them to be controlled... 'Obviously, Christians would be concerned about anything that is used to "mark" them for persecution. But credit cards, microchips with health and employee information, and the internet are not anything Christians should avoid for fear of "the mark." 'Again, we should ask how the first readers of this book would look at this "mark," and then apply that to every other group of readers.' Tim: I do appreciate your post. Iron sharpens iron. Anytime someone causes me to dig deeper into a subject and examine my evidence, my reasons, for accepting a particular interpretation of Scripture, it is an opportunity for my edification and further understanding. 'Strong's Number: 3956 'Transliterated Word: Pas 'Definition '1. individually a. each, every, any, all, the whole, everyone, all things, everything '2. collectively a. some of all types' May I ask, how do you reconcile Luke 6:30 and 2 Thessalonians 3:10? If Strongs is wrong and "some of all types" is not a valid definition of "Pas", are we indeed to encourage sloth, irresponsibility, and laziness by being indiscriminate in our giving to individuals? If the ONLY definition of "Pas" is "each, every, any, all, the whole, everyone, all things, everything", then we can ignore the plain text meaning and implications of 2 Th 3:10 and feed those who will not work. NASB Luke 6:30 "Give to everyone (Strong's# 3956) who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back." Is the beast computers, microchips...? 'Is the beast a computer, the Internet, bar codes, microchips or credit cards? 'Another rather silly way to read Revelation is to try and find something in the book that matches up with current technology, such as computers or microchips. Any kind of technology can be used for good or evil. I would ask you to avoid any interpretation of something in Revelation that makes no sense in the first century world. Computers and bar codes might make sense to us, but they would be meaningless to first century Christians, and the book of Revelation is as much theirs as it is ours. 'Hal Lindsey once interpreted the "locust monsters" in Revelation 9 as helicopters. I interpret these "monsters" as demons. Which interpretation would make sense to all Christians, and which one only makes sense to modern people? I think this is important, and will do a lot to keep us from chasing after "strange rabbits" in the book of Revelation.' THAT WHICH IS UNNATURAL: Homosexuality in Society, the Church, and Scripture (Part Two in a Two-Part Series on Homosexuality) by Joseph P. Gudel Christian Research Institute STATEMENT DH055-2 Summary 'The gay rights movement does not just want the right to privacy and to be left alone. Attempting to promote their cause as a civil rights instead of as a moral issue, they want special legal protection for, and cultural acceptance of, their lifestyle. Even many Christian churches have condoned or are sympathetic to homosexuality, ignoring the Bible's teachings concerning our sexuality. In the Old Testament we find heterosexuality to be proclaimed as God's natural order of creation, a teaching Jesus upheld in the New Testament. Biblically, homosexuality is described as both an "abomination" and "unnatural." God calls us to reject sin, but to love and value all people. 'How can anyone dare to speak out against another person's lifestyle? Especially within the church, are not Christians called to be loving and inclusive? Does not the Bible itself tell us that we are to reach out to people instead of being judgmental and self-righteous? 'Questions like these come up whenever the Christian or the church takes a stand on a moral issue, especially homosexuality. I realize that it is not "politically correct" to speak critically concerning any person or group. Nonetheless, true Christian love does not ignore immorality and the lives ruined by it, but speaks out in the hope of helping those individuals. 'This is particularly true when militant pro-homosexual groups, both within society and the church, have attacked the traditional Judeo-Christian understanding of this important issue. Thus this article is written, not as an attack on homosexuals, but in defense of the biblical teaching on this topic and to help those ensnared in this lifestyle...'
