Terrib: After reading your profile I have to give you "ten points" for the good advice. There is several things about this couple we don't know. How old they are, are these two Christians, and if they are old enough to marry and have the where with all to marry are they planning a wedding soon? I find without more details we are correct in a general answer, but with more information specfic concerns can better be closer addressed. I like your use of Scripture to give with your advice. I also welcome you to the forum! God bless. justme |

1344 | Rapture question? | 1 Thess 4:17 | justme | 89905
Dmunn: I have a fresh and exciting idea for you. Go to Matthew 24 and read what Jesus said about His return. Take notes in the order He says things will occure. I believe this will suprise you and even make the end times easier to understand. I suggest that larning about what the Word says, is best accomplished by personal study of the source, which is the Word of God. If you desire a deeper understanding then get some real notworthy schollary book writen by s solid person, in that field. By solid I do not mean the comic set of books called the "Left Behind" series. These "left Behind" books are the "Harry Potter" books, of the Christian world. In my outspoken opinion, the Left Behind" series should be left behind in the outhouse, for what I think these books could best be used for. In the "olden days" we used the out dated Sears Roebuck catalogue for this special use. I hope this will give who ever reads this something to think about. Blessings. justme |

EdB: Your answer was perfect! I applaud you forthright and direct answer. I think that the 2 cent remark gave too much credit to anyone believing that we go to hell after death to a place of holding. Talk about mix mauch theology, that raks right up with WOF. Thank you for confrontin error with truth! Blessings to you Ed! justme |

1347 | Rapture different from Second Coming? | 1 Thess 4:17 | justme | 90301
RoaringLamb: Thank you for the very indepth response. I am quite amazed that you spent the time required to ask an informed question. I am not sure where to begin, but I do know Duet. 29:29 says some things are known only to the Lord Almighty. Perhaps that's where I should start. I am not an expert on end times. I too dove rather deeply into studing all I could on the subject. No one could answer the questions I had, without using so much intertwisting of Old Testament verses taken what seened to me, as being streched to a fine point. There are many, many great thelogians that have spent their entire life studing this and My time was better spent elsewhere. I think there are several facts that seem to have a common thread. For me the more basic facts the better. Here are some I think are important to me. Jesus said He was going to return. Jesus did not know when He was returning, only the Father knows. There will be much tribulation as never before. How long this will last is known to the Father. When Jesus returns it won't be a secret, it will be very well known. When we die we are absent from the body, and present with the Lord. Those who die before His return, have gone before those who have not died yet. Some will be alive when Jesus returns. When Jesus returns we will be reunited with a glorified body. There will be a day of Judgement, and the sheep and goats will enter the perminate place of eternal life. I am to be ready, but keep working for we know not when He will come. My concern is that by being so involved with studing the end times I overlook the meaning of becoming Christlike today. I am convienced satan will use anything he can to distract us form our daily prayer and letting the Word speak to us. I believe that studing the end times can become a subject to throw us off course. What makes all this tie togeter for me is that no matter what I think, in reality there is nothing I say or think will amount to anything, because the Lord Almighty knows exactally when, and how it will all take place. For me there is more important things wI should be occupied with. With that I believe many who expouse one theory and become so dogmatic that they have it all down to the number of days and years for each event to take place are just shouting in the wind. But people want to know what is going to happen next. As long as people have an extreme hunger to know every detail, there will be some one willing to write lots of books with fiction mixed with Bible and call it good. In my bold opinion this is nonsence. I find it upsetting the amount of time given to studing the book of Revelation. Most people don't know that 65 percent of the book of Revelation is from Old Testament passages. Yes, I do believe there is error being repeated as fact and truth. Jesus said this would happen, and said even the intellegent religious leaders would be led astray. I think this may be at work today. I hope I have not let you down by not having a tightly all figuared out chart of all these events. I honestly am trying to become more Christlike, and that is sometimes a three steps foward and 2 steps backward. If I devoted the rest of my life to just studing how to love my neighbor as myself I think I would barely scratch the surface. I mean that with my very soul. I at times feel so inadiquate in my developing faith in Christ I surely shame the honor of being called a Christian. Your thoughts? justme |

1348 | Rapture different from Second Coming? | 1 Thess 4:17 | justme | 90306
Mathew: No not exactlly. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and Truth, John recorded this. When we die Paul tells us to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. There are aspects of death and what demension we will be in that is something that this side of death I can't comprehend. I take this part on faith, and Hebrews says after comes judgenment. There will be a fimal white thrown judgement and there is when those lost will be sent to hell. Never does it say Christians will face a second death. We do die physically, and are saved from the eternal hell. I might suggest you get hank Hanegraaff' book RESURRECTION. This is quite specfic and solid Biblical material that does a very percise way of explaing much better than I am able. I hope this helps. Any thouhts? justme |

RoaringLamb: Just as a note to your statement about changing positions, or minds. Read over some of my first notes, and I have changed my mind on occasion. Never say never, because every time I do, I eat my words. I once read " Lord help my words to be sweet and kind; because tommrow I may have to eat them." 1351 | Rapture question? | 1 Thess 4:17 | justme | 90696
Dmunn: Exactly what you found! Now in Chapter 24 Jesus lays out the order of events, and the signs that go with then. I think this is the pattern Jesus said things would happen, When reading other scripture in relation to Jesus return, make an effort to see if these verses fall into what jjesus said. I think it follows quite well. Darby who came up with the theology of in the air Jesus returns for the rapture, and later comes again for the final (third time?) closure of the gathering of all the saints. This theory began in 1820. It was furtherd by C. I. Scofield who puplished his Scofield notes printed in the KJV Bible thus it was called The Scofield Study Bible. Billy Sunday, Moody, and others have engulfed this theory and it has become such a prominate positionin some denominations, that to eevn think otherwise means you are not genuinely saved. Notable John Hagee has taken this to the ultimate extreme, and would disfellowship anyone who does not believe the rapture theory. Everything is neatly ploted on a chart when and how all the events in the future are to happen, but not the date for the rapture. I believe some Christians take whatever theeir pastor says as infalable as the Scripture it's self. I was challenged by a wonderful professor Dr. D.C. Martin at Grand Canyon University, to just read the Bible through and try and come up with the rapture dispensational theory by then self with out the notes that try to prove this theory. I will say from my point of view that this is a deffinate scare tool and it makes for a dramatic make a choice for heaven or hell right now type of witnessing. Zig Zigler said, "no body cares how much you know; untill they know how much you care." I was so impressed with this significant remark that is how I try to gain the right to share Jesus with people. It has been a valuable lesson for me. I will say I do have respect for those who believe this rapture theory, and I would never stop fellowshiping with a church or person that accepts this view of end times. I refer you to !Corinthians chapter 13. In this chapter we see what should be our motive for sharing the GoodNews of Jesus Christ our Lord. How does this settle with you? Blessings. justme |

Markarios: A person who believes in Body, soul, spirit is a tricodomist. One who believes in body and soul is a dicodomist. I don't think what I believe what ever I believe will make much difference what I believed in the end. Only then will I know for sure. agape, justme |

1354 | When will Jesus return? | 2 Thessalonians | justme | 96957
John 146: Welcome to the Bible Study Forum! I see your are able to express your ideas and opinion of the end times quite well. I think you have formed some conclusions, that are a little fuzzy for me to grasp. My concern is you have given no Scripture to support any of your ideas, thoughts and opinions. I think what you have said is interesting, and if this were just a talk about your ideas forum that would be just fine. However, this is a Study Bible Forum, and Scriptual backing for our reasons as to why we believe what we do, is pretty essential. Please do no't take this as a negative slam, as it is just a note to remind you how the Forum should be. Personally I take Matthew chapters 24, 25 and 26 and follow what Jesus said would take place. I take quite serious that Jesus said NO ONE knows when He will return but the FATHER. Although I am not a Dispensational Premillennialists, nor a Postmillennialists, or an Amillennialists, I am able to Scriptually take the position of a Historic Premillennialists. Premillennialialism is the doctrine stating that after the Second Coming of Christ, He will reign for 1,000 years over the earth before the final consummation of God's redemptive purpose in the new heavens and the new earth of the Age to Come. This is I believe, the natural reading of Revelation 20:1-6. Show me a church that is not Premillennialists in doctrine and there is very little evangelism or outreach to the unsaved. These non Premillennialist churches tend to be liberal neo-orthodox, and interested more in the social gospel. This si a tern seldom used today. When you state "but do me and the church a favor and DON'T PREACH IT. ...is only going to hurt us if we're wrong." I do not like the LEFT BEHIND books or films, if seen as accurate, when compaired to Scripture. These Books are a little Scripture mixed with a lot of fiction that keeps anxiety high for the reader or movie goer. I DO believe there is a serious reason to proclain the Gospel of Jesus Christ with a sence of URGENCY. We know not when Jesus may return. I know of nothing yet required by Scripture to prevent Jesus from returning now. One preaching must have solid Scriptual reasons for their end time preaching. Any preacher worth a tinkers dam, has endured criticism when they preach on Christ's return. There are many views that are Scriptually based, like Dispensationalisn Premillennalism, that do have a valid view point, and do deserve careful conssssideration, and are Orthodox. I personally find some difficulty with it, but there is no reason for not having close fellowship with my brothers and sisters who do believe this. Beside when Christ returns we all will know, and perhaps we all will be in for quite a shock, as to exactally how His returN happens. I hope this has widened your scope of understanding and encouraged your use of Scripture to back thoughts and beliefs up with, I enjoy a good dialogue with respect and kindness. Blessings justem |

1356 | Why is 2 Thess. 2:7 mis-translated? | 2 Thess 2:7 | justme | 73235
taleb: I read your profile, so what I may say may be reduntant, and if so please excuse me. Almost all translations for the last fifty years have been based on Functional Equlivant better known as FE. There is where many versions have things that differ from one version to another. A tranparent translation like the KJV or NASB takes longer to work through the words but is worth the gold dug out. The FE versions attempt to put the words into the cluture of the day. Perhaps the best FE is the NIV or NLT, the most the FE versions attempts to bring it closer to the attended readers culture, the chances are the version will have changed so many meanings it well may block the Holy Spirits intended meaning. I hope this is not just old stuff for you. justme |

1357 | Why is 2 Thess. 2:7 mis-translated? | 2 Thess 2:7 | justme | 73238
Searcher56: I am glad to see you are still active. I found a very interesting fact recently, as I have been previewing the TNIV. I stumbled on this quite by accident, and this knowledge has helped me better understand todays versions and their different readings of the same verse. For more than the last fifty years most translations have used what is called Functional Equivalence. Also known as dynamic theory. This type of translation focuses on the ease of understanding for the intended reader. Transparent translations or more direct translations like the KJV or NASB, as example, are harder for most modern readers. Two thirds of the world are able to understand either the NASB or KJV, which is profoundly sad. Often the words used in FE miss the mark or come as close as the translation team can. The popular NIV and NLT are FE as well as NRS, ESV, and NKJV just to name a few. That is what makes a big difference. I hope you find this as interestig as well. justme |

Tim: Thank you for your words. I think most do not know there is no "word for word" translation as that is an imposibility to be that exact from any language to another. When one studies how much goes into translating the Bible it is an awsome task. Blessings. justme |

I genuinely thank you for correcting my mistake. I mis read some information, and got it a little messed up. I sincerely regret that and it would serve me well to read something at least three times to make sure of my facts. I am glad the Forum has a wise and knowledgeable person like you and others. This is such a wonderful place to grow and have others help out in times like this. I continue to learn and grow in understanding so much in the forum. You constantly amaze me with your gracious way you help and encourage people. You have a very special gift, and the Lord is using you just where you are. Blessings from cold Missouri. justme |

1360 | Unemployment cheques for the saints. | 2 Thess 3:8 | justme | 217835
savedsince1980: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. There are many places in our country that jobs are just not there to find. My question to you is what about those in the church that can not find work of any kind. Even with those who work at looking for work in every way possible and can not even get work at a fast food place, what should the church do then. I personally have taken jobs that were considered the bottom of the barrel jobs and know what it is to support a family of six. This was some years ago but I was willing to take anything. That being said there are places today jobs just are not there no matter how lowley they are. I have found that the disabled have it very hard in finding work. Often these people look healthy and in good shape, but some are suffering very serious health problems. That's where the disabled are often judged very wrong as being able to take just any job. Even while pastoring a small church I have worked at several jobs that kept me humble and in touch with the low paid hard working people in the church. So I fully understand the issues on how much we help those in financial need. My opinion is we should help those in need and let the Lord be praised in our love showed to those in need. By our love to one another the world sees how Christ loves us. What are your thoughts? justme |
