1241 | Baptized before serving in choir | 1 Cor 12:13 | justme | 183317
Jeff: In Matthew 28:19-20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you: and lo I am with you always even to the end of the age." NASB Baptism is not optinal, it is a command of Jesus Christ, who Christians are to follow His example. The Church members should be an example of following Christ leadership. The choir should be made up of believers that are following Jesus Christ and His Commands. Therefore when a local body of believers say unless you have been born again and baptized, this requirement is totally Biblical. Scripture tells us to test what we hear and see, against what the WORD says. I believe that the Church, meaning the bride of Christ is growing, and reaching out as never before. I do not believe "the church in general today has been filled with corruption and false teaching in a way never before seen." I do see that and failing in the church or it's members are brought to the attention of an audience that is far greater than ever before. This is due to the vastly improved way we communicate with TV internet, and many other ways of instant reporting. Having served as Pastor in the Souther Baptist, Conserative Baptist, and the American Baptist Churches USA, I can say there is no perfect church or denomination. I can say I have seen souls being transformed by Jesus Christ, as never before. Yes, there are false teachers and those who preach out of selfish motives, but it was that way in New Testament times as well. I am sorry you feel the church is missing the mark today because of lazy and unterested believers. I personally feel it is up to each believer to be respondsible for their own personal growth in Christ. I can do my best to become a believer who studies the Word, and developes a living active love relationship with Jesus Christ. I can show and demonstrate how to become a follower of Christ, but that is up to each person to be accountable to the Holy Father. I believe I have presented the Scriptual support you asked for. If you find a church that is unscriptual in the preaching, teaching or the requirements they have set, then it is your responsibility to find a church which is Scriptual in all the areas you listed. I too am very concerned that the statements I make in this Study Bible Forum are Scriptual, respectful, kind, and open for anyone to question. I believe it is the respondsibility and part of growing as Christians to ask, just as you have done, when something seems to need further explimation. Thank you for asking and I hope his has cleared up any questions you had. I am very optomistic in the Power of the Holy Spirit to convict sinners of their need for Jesus Christ. The Church is growing every minuet. I have seen the lives of changed people after receieving Jesus Christ as Lord. The Bride of Christ awaits the Bride Groom, and until He comes, the command is to GO make disciples. Blessings to you Jeff. Justme |

Azure: Greetings. Being fairly new to the Study Bible forum, I can understand how it may seem that threads might stay on one topic. However often times threads interweave and change directions. There has been nine answeres to your question, which most generally when I get a esponse to a question I answer. However Jeff responded to my answer to you. Jeff needed to have his question answered, and in so doing this added to the orignal question you asked. This all works out for the Glory of Christ. Did my answer to you help you in some way? As I said I believe the requiremeny to be baptized is Biblical and responsible to ask of Christians. Perhaps if someone who wanted to sing but did not want to be baptized, has some wrong motives? Blessings. justme |

Doc: Thank you for your post. This is is a good topic to dialogue on, I have not had this many responses in a long time. I was not dialoguing about any one county, and not the UK or the USA for sure. When the word Church is used that is the Bride of Christ, meaning the total complete number of believers. From the time that the first believers in Jesus Christ, came to salvation in Jesus Christ, until this present day is what I write about. In Matthew 16:18 Jesus says the gates of hell will not overcome the Church. I do agree there is a constant growth of agressive assults of believers and the Church all over the world. This is in keeping with what Jesus said would take place in Matthew chapter 24. The number of believers is growing every day, more than ever before. There are lots of "tares" and they seem to be growing faster then ever before as well. Matthew 13:25,30, and 36 Jesus told us that the "wheat" would be mixed with the "tares". Perhaps, we never expected the "tares" of today, to bring such pressure and all but crowd us out? Are Christians in this present age, so convinced that we will be rescued before the tribulation, and not see a great "falling away" by those who have been "enlightened"? (Hebrews 6:4 to 6) FOXE'S BOOK OF MARTYERS severs us well to remind us that from the very first Christians to this present age to be a follower of Jesus Christ one will suffer, and there will be those who hate us because they hated Jesus. (Matthew 10:22) There are those who may look and act like believers, and Jesus warned us in Matthew 7:15 that just because someone looks like a believer does not mean they are. Matthew 7:21 Jesus said that not everyone who calls Him Lord belongs to Him. This should not surprise any genuine born again believer. Some denominations and churches, have gone astray and fall into what Romans 1:32 clearly warns us to be on alert for. The very issues and problems Paul faced are still alive and well today. However within some of these denominations and churches there is a "remnant" that struggles to show the error of the direction that gows against Jesus Christ and His teachings. Even in the conserative denominations the issue of same sex relations has been a topic of much heated debate. Year after year when denominations have their annual conventions the homosexual, lesbianism are persisteant in waging their war to gain a foothold, for being recognized as being equal, and acceptable for any and all positions of leadership and ministry. Sadly, some denominations have given into these perverts, and in doing so polluted themselves to the place they are more worldly than the world. I sincerely hope your statement to Azure "Wrong ideas about God are not only the fountian from which the polluted waters of idolatry flow; they are thenselves idolatrous. The idolater imagines things about God and acts as if they were true." are not a reflection of how you understand me to be or a response to my post. Augustine wrote 'In essentials, unity. In nonessentials, liberty. In all things, Charity." Having just a basic usage of English, I attempted to look up "panglossian". THE AMERICAN HERITAGE DICTONARY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE does not have this word in it, would you be so kind to exlpain the meaning of this word? Please excuse my ignorance. I openly admit your superiorty with English, has me embarrassed to ask such a elementary question. justme |

Jeff" I will respecy your desires. May I kindly say that to dialogue even when it is unfomfortab;e takes the rough edges off our stony belief formations that we have not worked out for our selves. I am certian Paul got into many debates that became HOT. Often growth comes in resolving misunderstandings rather than cutting of any further comunications. Never the less, I wish you well. justme |

Doc: I totally agree with what you have said. I am glad you took time to respond to me. Often we jump into a dialogue and without someone (such as yourself) who has the background and learning to untwist what has been said. I look at the "Church" as a complete "Body of Christ" with those who have gone to be with Christ, those who are in Christ at this present moment, and those who are yet to come to Christ. For me I understand to three divisons as a total unit called the Church, or the Bride of Christ, and often said to be the Body of Believers, and Paul even describes the many parts of the body of Christ compared to the human body. I can see how the words "seen", "number", and "seem" can be confusing. This is especially true with your better wording. As for those who are the visable church, there is a drastic falling away from Scriptual teachings, the outlook is bleak as I see it. However, at the same time there are places some of which are in South America that the Good News of Jesus Christ is being received with open hearts. I have heard by some serving in Russia thatthere are places that small numbers are coming to Christ. Even though I do not see them personally come to Christ, they are part of the visable church. Perhaps, if the return of Christ is many days away, or even centuries away, there are those who will come to Christ. Every person to come to Christ adds to the number, and growth of the Church. What I am attempting to say is, I see the Church in it's complete state, just as it is toady. As the Holy Father sees and knows the begining and end of the world, is how I describe the total Church. In presenting this I can see that it may be hard to follow, and I do appologize if this seems I was referring to only the visable church. I sincerely had or have no intentions of causing a controversy that would divide us into sides and cause hostility amoung the forum. That would be totally against everything I understand and practice as a Christian. Again thank you for your note. Blessings Doc. justme |

Steve, thanks for the help, I did not mean to say all, and you are correct. I do believe the majority do, or am I under a false understanding. I always appreciate when someone takes the time to help me have a better understanding or correct me in a mistake. Thanks brother Steve. justme |

1252 | Church sound system "way too loud" | 1 Cor 13:1 | justme | 147792
Kalos: I am unable to hera much of what is being said, so amplification does not cause me pain from a church sound system. However a music concert is a different story. My hearing aids are of little use except to hear paper crumble very loudly, I can hear the transmission sift very nicely, doors close, all the things that you don't really want to hear:-( The ear pulgs I refer toare like a thick foam rubber, WalMart sells them. Blessings to Lee and you. justme |

1253 | Why do I want to speak in tongues? | 1 Cor 13:1 | justme | 212373
flyman: If I follow the "logic" then everyone who has not spoke in tongues is unsaved, correct? If there is a contradiction in scripture, then how do we know who to believe if some other writters don't seem to agree? If there are contradictions, then there must be things we can't trust? If all the above is true, how can we believe any of the Bible? If there are contradictions then that means there are errors in the Bible? This all seems logical does it not? May I say that you have to come to the point that your logic is nor correct or the Bible does NOT have contradictions. flyman, you need to come to the conclusion that there must be more to understanding Scripture than you are aware of. The key point being you can either trust the Bible completly, or you can continue to find contradictions and errors and thus call into question the birth, death and resurrection of Christ. Because you mentioned tongues, this is mentioned in Acts, and Pauls writtings as well. Following the logic you stated, then because Jesus never even discussed this subject so then tongues is subject to be a contradiction. The point I am trying to bring to your attention is what you have said may seem logical to you, but you are lacking a solid foundation upon which to make logical statements. Here are a few places in Scripture that shoulf help you have a better understanding if Scripture. 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20. May I suggest you take the New Testament book by book and read them. You will soon see that you have taken logic in Scripture out of context. justme |

1254 | Why do I want to speak in tongues? | 1 Cor 13:1 | justme | 212402
Flyman: Thank you for your response. I fully understand where you are coming from. There is only one sure solution to your questions. The answer to you understanding the Scriptures is ib studing the Scriptures. Get a Greek English New Testament and read it. Everything anyone can or will say means little, but the actual Word od God with the Holy Spirit will teach you and give you wisdom in all the areas that present a challenge. Blessings and merry Christmas. justme |

1255 | Hi JesusFreak | 1 Cor 14:34 | justme | 58988
Melanie: Welcome to the Forum! Every one is welcome, and the Forum is a place we show respect and kindness. I am sad when I read unkind things you have said about Kalos. Kalos has been with the Forun form Feb. 2001 and contributed almost 3000 noted and answers. Where as you have been with us 5 days and written 96 mostly notes. You have been quite busy! I kindly express in very sincere terms that you should learn your way as who is the "poor man"! Kalos is not the poor man by any means! I also suggest you read the notes in green that you agree to when submitting a note. Is down grading Kalos publicly, for anyone who comes on this web site read, a responce you are proud of? Frankly, when I see in 5 days you have written 96 itens it concerns me. This is not a chat room! Perhaps if you have nothing better to do than down grade Forum people who try their best to abide with the forum's rules, you might find better use of you time gossiping elsewhere. I am being quite direct with you but I do so with the hope you can see the Forum a little more serious, as most of us do. Even if I totally disagree theologically with someone I do not have to down grade or belittle them for all to read. I hope you stay with us, but be more sensitive about respecting others. agape, justme |

1256 | Hi JesusFreak | 1 Cor 14:34 | justme | 59021
Melanie: I have never seen anyone put out mass quanity of notes and answers as you. I am not questioning your walk. I question if you understand what this Forum is about. The Forum is not a chat room! There is no way for you to answer now over 100 items in less than 110 hours, with giving proper time to pray and read the profile background and all the background notes to have the information you need to answer things with a well informed and right spirit. You appear to be very impulsive. Perhaps you need to consider what Kalos has said with humility, rather than defensiveness. You should know if Kalos had said something unkind about you I would say the same to him. I am not playing selective pick on you. I only am tring to make your time on the forum, a time that will be encouraging and uplifting for everyone! The choice is yours of course. However, I see no need to continue to justify the Forum rules, or Kakos, to you. I have more needs in spiritual issues to be involved with this Forum. You take what advice I give and sift through it, if there is is something that is worth while to you, good. If you feel my suggestions are of no value, than toss them to the wind. I hope this settles our discussion, for there is nothing further for either of us to say. Blessings, justme. |

1260 | follow up to 1 corinth 15 question | 1 Cor 15:52 | justme | 216500
Val: Just as a point on your response. If someone sent me a note with "Greetings man" it might considered to be a put down on me being a man. Val, the point you make about the "day" really is more solidly in favor of meaning a single day. This may be debatable, but the most literal understanding is a one day event. In all honesty as I read your note with "Greetings man" for me and perhaps other men it sure came out like "man bashing" to me. Perhaps that's not what you ment? We all need to be reminded to consider how our words on the screen might be read in a way we did not intend. The world judges us by how we treat each other, and the love and respect we show each other. The dialogue on the day of the Lord is open to different interpretations and dialogue, but not to insist it is only to be viewed as my way only. Blessings. justme |
