EdB :-( Now are you tring to tell me that Paul didn't speak Elizabethian English as well? Now you have crossed over the Big no, no, line! If KJV was good enough for Paul then it is good enough for me!!!! I think in reality in the midwest, here in central Missoui, the KJV out sell all other translations, this is the Bible Belt and we have a great number of Almish and Menonite. Some drive cars but most have horse drawn buggies. This can be a real test of their faith venturing out on the highway. As a drive I am always or the alert for the orange triangles. Everyear there collisions and serious injury, and the horse seldom lives. These simple living folks have become friends and we have been challenged to make our life less hectic and simpler. We buy a lot of our grocerys and other better hosehold itend, and all our hay this way. We have become friends with a man and wife who have 60 grandchildren! Their lifestyle is amazing. When a wedding comes it takes all day! there are generally 250 people who eat, sing, pray and celebrate. This goes on until 11 PM. and the Brides family pays for everything! Two meals for 250 people, wow! I have never been with such kinder more sincere, loving people. They accept outsiders very cautiously, and it takes time to build friendships. This has been well worth our effort and love to them. Their children do not go to school beyond the 8th grade. They earn their living with their hands, respect the soil, and do not accept any government Social Security, food stamps or welfare. They pay their taxes and keep to thenselves. Their lives are hard, and they depend on hard work and the Lord. Now I wonder how our government could improve on that? We respect their right to live unto the Lord as they see best. We are viewed as friends, but I am sure they would generally say we are too worldly. Our friends have accepted our differences as we have theirs. So I say we are blessed to live where we do. Justme |

CCBear :-( Your foolish answer was cruel! This person asked an very personal honest question, deserving a respectable answer. I have no idea of anything about you as you did not fill out a profile in the UPDATE USER INFO. Which may I nicely suggest you join the rest of who have. I also suggest that when answering a question in the future if you don't know the correct answer let someone answer who does! Questions about sexuality are quite personal and the Forum responds with dignity and respect. I welcome you to the forum and look to see your mane in the future under better circumstances. justme |

EdB :-) Your are correct about the Pilgrims, and one can reason they came before the year 1611. However, the Bishop's Bible came out in 1558, and remained the Bible of choice fore more than fifty years after the 1611 KJV came out. Lockman had a little phamplet called "TEXTUS RECEPTUS" IT WAS PUBLISHED IN 1975. Which I was told they have a copy, that they make copies for people who want one. I called for a friend and he never got it sent to him, so I copied mine and sent it to him. I would say this is one source worth a lot to me. I have used it many times and I have found if a person is so positive that this phamplet could not possabliy be right there is no way to prove the truth to a closed mind. I did see a Geneva Bible for sale on www.greatsite.com I think it cost more than I would make in a lifetime. Besides I have my hands full of todays English Bibles, and I find it hard to get enough reading done as it is. I am glad you showed some interest in the topic. I find the translation of the English Bible very interesting. justme |

EdB: The Bishops Bible, upon which the KJV was very dependant upon, used the word James. Many are they who believe the KJV was the very first and best English Bible ever put into English. However for more than 50 years after the KJV came out the Bishops Bible was the Bible most used. The KJV of 1611 did NOT use the TEXTUS RECEPTUS as some are so solidly assured it was. The TEXTUS RECEPTUS was not even published until 1633. The KJV used teh Greek text prepared by Erasmus, and dedicated to Pope Leo X. The oldest Manuscript at that time was from the tenth century! Now the NASB, NIV, and other translations have used manuscripts going back to the third century and the Dead Sea Scrolls. Erasmus' Greek New Testament has numerious problems that match no other Greek texts. So even as good as the KJV is, which lasted over three hundred years it is far from being the best the best we have today. This is more than you wanted, but now you have a bunch to think about. Have a wonderful New year! justme |

Hank Merry White Christmas, from Missouri: I found a real gem of a place to find old orignal Bibles. www.greatsite.com they have several 1611 King James Version both the she and he types for a mear couple of hundred thousand dollars. In this site you can see and price the Bishops Bible, and other fine Books related to the Church. Due to my recent reviewing the TNIV I have been stirred to dig deeper into Biblical translation and the begining of the English Bible. I have dug deeper than ever before. I bought the complete FOXE'S BOOK OF MARTYRS. I am almost in the middle of it. My heart is greatly touched at what our founding brothers and sisters endured. We have much to praise God foe in our worldof ease. Have a Happy New Years. Justme |

Joe: Happy Christmas! I thought you might like to know what one of my teachers thought; these qualifications are really qualities of ones character. I believe character is much deeper than qualifications, in which one has jumped through a hoop to be "qualified" which may be only temporary. Something to chew your cud on for a while. justme |

Ed: Well have you considered changing your name to Brad? Sorry :-( ! Boy when I mess up there is no doubt anout it! The following webb address will get you to Cambridge Bibles. It is a long one too! www.bakerbooks.com/bakerbooks/divisions/cambridge/browsecambridge.htm Baker is now some way connected with Cambridge. I think I had to go to Amazon to get more info. You can also type in your search engine "Christian resource directory". There you will find about every publisher of all Bibles, and other good stuff. I know you will find endless trails to look into. I noticed you like Dr. McGee. I went to Church of the Open Door in L.A. CA. in the early sixties. I heard him preach a mumber of times. I listened to him preach the Bible on the radio for many years. He was able to complete the whole Bible as preached on the radio. Now, long after his passing on, his voice still is heard over many radio stations preaching the Bible. His goal was to complete the Bible study messages before he went home. The Lord allowed him to do just that. I am amazed as to how fresh it still is today. Have a good day, ED! :-) justme |

EdB :-) Good day to you. I am glad it is the same Dr. Packer. If you have never read his book HOT TUBB RELIGION you have a treat in store! What a title for a book! I went to www.gnpc.org?home/esv. I spent a good length of time looking up the passages they have. I was impressed with the translation, and the team members. Some translator team members came from the seminary my wife and I went to. Dr. Page Patterson was listed, as the SBC convention president, and that has been a while ago, so they have been working on this translation for a good while. That's good to see, as time is a factor in making a WORTHY translation. I think I read that a single column was due out in late 2003. I did find Cambridge has a Calfskin single colomn NIV now ot for 100 US dollars now, as well as well a NKJV single column wide margin calfskin for ONLY 200 US dollars. I think they had 12 in stock so hurry before they are gone. Well Brad I hope this give you some idea how this old Ozark mule is sorta stuck in my ways, and I enjoyed the information about the ESV. I think my age is catching up with me, or I am more aware of how changing, even good habits is difficult. My parsons software works well for me. it's only 10 years old. In software years that makes it like a Ford model T. As long as it runs I will keep it. My wife and I made our library with it's main theme in language studies of the New and Old Testament, four of the major commentaries, one being The Expositors Bible Commentary this uses the NIV. Theology was another area, we have the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament 10 volume set, and several other multi volume sets. We also have a strong emphasis on counseling, Missionology, and Church History. I think we have about 3,000 books. We gave away our most of the Christiam educstion books to the SBC local area director to give pastors that had no seminary. I have taken a special interest in of study in the Aztec Indians. I have been to the digs around Mexico City seven times. Books in english relating to the Aztecs bought in Mexico, are hard to find and rather expensive. I think we have 28 different translations of the New Testament and not quite as many complete Bibles. Perhaps one of the better New Testaments is THE NEW TESTAMENT IN THE LANGUAGE OF THE PEOPLE by Charles R. Williams. I often use that in compairing verses. We have beem very blessed, and we try not to keep books that are trendy and just fit for the time period there were writen for. When buying a Bible we have made every effort to get the leather cover and smyth sewn. These better Bible's last when taken care of for a hundred years or more. I have one I used in 1954 and has held up very well. Then again I have an Amplified Bible we got in 1984 in bonded leather that has seen very little use that the bonded cover has just fallen appart like bits of paper. The top and bottom are split and torn. Maybe it comes from lack of use. I think at this time in my life I have established a pattern that works well for me. I know where a verse in my main Bibles is. I know where I have put notes, and things that only mean something to me or my wife. I do admit Hank has tempted me in the New Living Translation and the NKJV a little. Our Pastor uses the NKJV and there is very little difference in his reading it aloud and what my updated NASB reads. In reality when so many have no Bible I feel rather selfish haveing a wide choice. Several times when missionaries or visiting students from Nigeria, or India have come and stayed with us we have given away good number of Bibles. We enjoy helping those who have so little and show such love of the Bible. Blessings! justme |

EdB: The Dr. Packer you refer to is that J.I. Packer, the one who wrote "HOT TUBB RELIGION"? If so, I am aware of him and find him trustworthy. But, I agree, and most of the time have my parrell Greek New Testament, NASB and the NIV and some times a couple of others to really flesh out the real gems. I am still dealing with the grief of previewing the TNIV. I really do mean grief! I am sick at heart at what the TNIV has done. The translators have deliberately attempted to add words that are not found anywhere in the Greek New Testament! The TNIV,in my opinion, is dishonest in it's disguised agenda. The TNIV is in my opinion, a corrupted translation. I have read all that I can endure. I can read no more. I am aware that the translators are now working on the Old Testament, and expect to have it in print in two years. After reading the TNIV for myself, that it is no wonder our brother Hank had to have a Pacemaker and Defifulator placed in his body after previewing the TNIV! I hope I put is down before the effects raise my blood pressure over the top. Some one said they might give the TNIV a C-. That is very generious! I give it and F-. I find adding to the Biblical text unexceptable under any circumstance! I have bigger dragons to slay now. Thanks again for the information. justme |

Hank: You and your wife are most assuredly able to relate deeper meaning to the LORD Almighty sending His only Son to die for those He Loved so very much. I have heard it said if I was the only person the LORD Almighty would still of sent Jesus Christ to redeem me. I honestly can not comprehend such a loving LORD that give up His Son for the World, say nothing about a sinner like me. Thank you for the priviledge of sharing such tender wound. Your grief is felt, and my mind is unable to fully comprehend what else to say but to say I send a genuine Brother in Christ hugg. I am aware of several in the forum that are carring burdens that are almost beyond what I could endure. Some of have adult children who are living lives that are in fefiance of Christ. There are some with illness that may well take them home soon. There are families ready to split. This is a very stressfull time of year for many. There are many to remember in prayer. My list gets longer, and I know I could spend a day in prayer, just for those in real need of God's intervention. Believe it or not at one time it was hard to pray for even just a few minuets. Now there is never enought time and memory. Happy celebration of Jesus Christ Birth Hank, and all. justme |

1173 | To wine, or not to wine? | Bible general Archive 1 | justme | 69437
EdB: I have cone to the conclusion that being educated in a christian school does not make one spiritual. Being a pastor does not mean one knows how to pray. Being tolerant does not bring peace, or assure tranquility. Inclusiveness does not include me. Diversivity assures divisions. Enlightenment often clouds up the issues. Definations are what they mean to you, as you want them to mean. For example; I have learned never believe anyone who says " read my lips, no new Taxes!" or "I never had sexual relations with that woman!" Never underestamate the power of a prayer. God has the ability to hear, and move in my behalf regardless if it is just me alone praying, or have a hundred Christians praying for me. My prayers to be in His direct will are always inHis will! That brad, has been a a difficult lesson for me to discover. I have by experience recently learned not to waste my spiritual energy in someone who only is interested in draining my reserve of spiritual strength. Knowing who is really in genuine need of spiritual insight and who is just a devisive person is hard for me to know. By the way what do you like about the ESV? justme |

Hank: In reading this note, and finding out about your son, was painful for me to read. I do not know what that would be like to lose a son. I have deep empathy for you and your wife. To be very honest, I hurt inside when I read about your sons death. My sincere sympathy is extended, evern though it was some time ago. Time does heal some wounds, byt we never forget. I am so sorry you both experienced such a tragic loss. I have NEVER heard any praise for anyone who was under the infulence of alochol! I know of nothing done worth while while drunk. This self inflicted drug has destroyed more than man could ever out build. The childhood and life of my wife suffered and was shamed by her dad all his life. That pain ended October 1997 when he finally died. What she endured, and how she had to learn to defend herself as a child, made it hard for her to trust and feel secure when we first got married. The pain will always be remembered! That is not the legecy I will leave for my family! I Know whom I have believed, and am persuaded He will keep me untill the day, He ends my days. My protection comes from walking and abiding with the Lord, not on my own. justme Thank you for sharing some of the burdens you endured, and live with from the past. God bless you and you wife. justme |

1176 | To wine, or not to wine? | Bible general Archive 1 | justme | 69422
EdB; Greetings this AM. :-) The wine in scripture was deluted about 4 to 6 times. The wine was like a concentrated orange juice, as we have today in the frozen food section of the store. They added water to it and by all that I have been told if water was added as it was suppose to be, the "buz" would have take more than the bladder could hold! That by no means some did not used far less water, and then the color was much deeper than it was to be. I personally have had the story of Jesus making wine, put up as a defence for more heavy drinkers that were addicted to daily use of "spirits". This passage is mis used beyond any one I know of. Why is this small section of Jesus life' known by so many? Yet so few know any other of Jesus' life experiences? For me After one year in a Naval Hospital, I came out so dependant on strong pain killers that is was a very serious dependancy for many years. This is just as common in the church today as heavy drinking is in the world. The use of alcohol, is one of the trap biggest issues. If one says it is ok to have a glass of wine or a beer, there will be someone who will justify their habit because so and so says its's ok. If I say no one should drink alcohol, some person will ask if I ever used Night Quill. I think that if if there is any doubt don't. Scripture says if we know something is wrong and we do it, that is a sin. I disapprove of a list of "We don'ts in a church". Some have a required that to be a church member that you muct totally abstain from any alcohol, including selling it. Yet many just overlooked this and lied about it. When I was much, much, much, much younger, rock and roll, dancing , going to the movies, smoking, drinking, cussing, and mixed swiming, television, and fornicating (meaning kissing alone in a car) were often worked in to the Pastors sernons! I grew up pretty warped, I feared the Lord, respected young ladies (they were considered ladies at 13 and above), addressed older men and women by Mr., Miss., or Mrs., dated in groups, and never said a sware word in public. Then the sware words were more of a by your self thing. Most of us slipped once and a while. Boy the fifties seen so long ago! Stores were closed on Sundays too! Today, I still have these values. At times my Grandchildren think I am from the prehistoric ages. Well I chased a rabbit, I am like that you know. I was glad to see both notes on this. Have a good day! justme |

Hank: I contacted Dr. Henery Moler, who worked on theNASN New Testament. I read him several problem areas. He was in agreement with me the text does not translate into what is printed. If that were thacare on not practicing homosexual, then where does the Blood of Christ and forgiveness come in? How anout a non practicing thief or whatever sin you can nane? I think the agenda is to accept homosexuality, and other agendas tied to this. I am reviewing the text and will give then a very accurate review, and hope the Lord will use it for His Glory. Oh by the way I do think every time jesus is refered to Hom or He it should show upper case letters. Thanks for the note. justme |

Hank:-) I received my TNIV today. :-( I have read with my NASB and the NIV and Greek Pararalle New Testament. I went to Luke, 1 Corinthians, and then Romans. There are a few places I felt the gender nutral might aid in some way. Them there were places I saw as being inconsistant, with their own worded purpose. Then there were that I will call plane stupid errors, in this "persons" judgement. "People" was used when refering to circumsission! That is more than clear it should have refered to the male gender! Also when using the word "homosexual" the TNIV adds "practicing" before it. There seemed to be an agenda that compremises God's Word. I will continue my jorney in reading a few more selected sections, and then send in my review. Several times I said to my wife, "I will bet Hank blew a gasket!" I think this is so simular to the NRSV it makes no financial wisdom to have another corrucpted text in print. I hope enough "persons" let Zondervan know how this is such a kick in their teeth, so maybe they will let it die. Hope you are doing ok with the heart and pacemaker and defib. Remembering you in prayer...... justme |

Sword007: I used a secular dialogue, because your understanding of scriptyre and morality is so twisted. There can be no learning when you have so closed yourself to thepoint of saying wrong is right and right is wrong. The sad thing is you defend immorality as under the guise that because God did not disallow some practice that makes it acceptable. How foolish an assumption God allowed Adam and Eve free will. God did not disallow them from sinning. Does that mean is acceptable because He did not disallow it? Your reasoning is seriously flawed. For one who has such knowledge you have used it to your own distruction. Let's drop this subject, frankly no truth that you say is not truth is a stalemate. I give this up to someone else. I truly think you have crossed over the line of wisdom into humanism. Peace. justme |
