545 | Did Jesus ever drink wine? | Matt 11:19 | azurelaw | 215934
Dear Justme, When I was young and immature, my heart was dull and ears tickled (2 Tim 4:3) that I did not like the way (HOW) most preachers preached. God is so gracious to regenerate my heart that now (as I grew up) I concern on WHAT is preached (but not to find fault). I agree with you completely that preaching is a weighty task (2 Tim 4:2, 2 Tim 2:15). The preparation and process consume you. The labouring is hard for a lay-person to understand. I always tell my youth group and my fellows at adult cell group to pray for preachers and pastors (James 3:1). However, there were times I grinded my teeth when I heard a Christmas message telling the congregant to see Nick as their role model in time of troubles and affliction; the MEANING of Jesus' ressurection is to demonstrate God has the power to raise the dead on the Ressurection Day service; refute the feasibility of "speaking the truth in love" (Eph 4:15) due to cultural difference. 546 | Sharing - Leaving our burden upon Him | Matt 11:28 | azurelaw | 199400
Sharing - Leaving our burden upon Him Ancient Chinese used a bamboo (as a leverage) to carry their weighty goods at both ends. As believers, there are times we still feel weighty and worry even we pray and plea for our Lord's mercy to lift our burdens. Yes, indeed, He did...but what we have forgotten is just to let go of our hands which are still grasping the bamboo thus carrying our own weight and cause us feeling weighty ... UNNECESSARILY. Phil 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Phil 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Shalom Azure |

547 | Why is it not relevant today? | Matt 12:31 | azurelaw | 186944
Dear Psalm 25, Welcome to the forum. Thanks for this clear explanation. I learned a lot. May I also add that (my own opinion) Jesus' claim of the statement that the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is unpardonable is totally out of His mercy and love for such blasphemy cannot be duplicated today. Our Lord spare us from this unpardonable sin, but grant us His patience and chances for the unbelieve to convert. Shalom Azure |

Dear minister summers, Thanks for your input. I do believe that when a TRUE believer convert, the Holy Spirit is indwelt with him and there could not be a room for demon. When putting together what Jesus said on the last statement in verse 45 and earlier verses about the Pharisee's comment on Jesus and His diciples, the picture is rather clear to me that Jesus is rebuking the Pharisee's hypocritic demands and teachings on one's behaviour and following the law - a kind of self-reformation. That is why Jesus commented "evil generation" in verse 45 instead of a single person. Thanks again kalos and minister summers. Shalom Azure :) |

550 | After death do angels take us to God? | Matt 13:36 | azurelaw | 207827
Dear ohmi, 1/ You say: But the many sinners of this world are all resurrected from hell in the second resurrection and hence the many are redeemed later on the basis of their sainthood in the next life in the new earth, as Jesus says, by WORKS, not by grace of the new covenant with only the few [Hebrews 8:8-12]:- Could you please explain how would you reconcile the above with Eph 2:8-9 in concern with "by works, not by grace"? 2/ You say: Of the very few who are saints in this life , those fewer still who are alive when Jesus returns will not even see death at all ,but be taken as were Enoch and some few others, ... See Hebrew 9:27 which contradicts your statement "...fewer still who are alive when Jesus returns will not even see death at all ,but be taken as were Enoch and some few others..." Did I miss something? Thanks for your further explanation. Shalom Azure |

Dear Val, I read your kind advice to Matt and it is very loving of you :-) In addition to that, what I have learnt most importantly here on the forum is doctrinally sounded and biblical posting so that we won't be disqualified. Shalom Azure |

557 | Are miracle healing prayers answered | Matt 18:1 | azurelaw | 190167
Bill, Thanks for your attempt to answer. May I suggest that you read the whole chapter of Matthew 18 where the context talked about judgement. Nevertheless, the scriptures that come to mind concerning healing by prayers : James 5:14-16. A bit to share with you, I personally have not experienced a miracle healing via prayers. However, a very good friend of mine had an ear problem that affected her hearing more than 20 years ago. Ten years later, she had a chance to express her problem to a pastor at the church where my friend attended a year or two. The pastor laid hands on her ear and prayed for her. The next day, the usual pain and problem in her ear had gone and never came back again. Shalom Azure |

558 | Are miracle healing prayers answered | Matt 18:1 | azurelaw | 190169
Dear Bill, Sorry that I should have been more precise. Your previous quote was Mat 18:18-20. Please read Mat 18:15-20. It talks about witnessing in judgement or disciplinary action in church. It is in parallel with 1 Tim 5:19. You can do a word search for other scriptural reference by "two or three witness". Hope I have explained it clear. Enjoy the forum and Shalom Azure |

559 | Are miracle healing prayers answered | Matt 18:1 | azurelaw | 190190
Dear Bill, You are right concerning the power of prayers granted to us as in verse 18. My point was to understand the scriptures in line with the context where it talks about the removal of offences in church. Verses 15-20 "If a professed Christian is wronged by another, he ought not to complain of it to others, as is often done merely upon report, but to go to the offender privately, state the matter kindly, and show him his conduct. This would generally have all the desired effect with a true Christian, and the parties would be reconciled. The principles of these rules may be practised every where, and under all circumstances, though they are too much neglected by all. But how few try the method which Christ has expressly enjoined to all his disciples! In all our proceedings we should seek direction in prayer; we cannot too highly prize the promises of God. Wherever and whenever we meet in the name of Christ, we should consider him as present in the midst of us." - Matthew Henry "Verse 18. Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth - By excommunication, pronounced in the spirit and power of Christ. Whatsoever ye shall loose - By absolution from that sentence. In the primitive Church, absolution meant no more than a discharge from Church censure. Again I say - And not only your intercession for the penitent, but all your united prayers, shall be heard. How great then is the power of joint prayer! If two of you - Suppose a man and his wife. Matt. xvi, 19. Verse 20. Where two or three are gathered together in my name - That is, to worship me. I am in the midst of them - By my Spirit, to quicken their prayers, guide their counsels, and answer their petitions." - John Wesley (source: http://eword.gospelcom.net/comments/matthew/mhc/matthew18.htm) Shalom Azure |
