521 | to get closer to god | Matt 6:6 | azurelaw | 203380
Yes, Brian, we gotta know Him. His loving kindness, His grace, His glory, His wisdom, His goodness, His mercy...everything that draw us near to Him, drive us to seek Him and to savor Him. Ps 42:1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God. God does not need to know us for He knew us already. Isn't it amazing and great! Shalom Azure |

523 | Lionheart do you know this site better? | Matt 6:9 | azurelaw | 203815
Dear Tamara, Certainly no...not offended at all! I see brother Lionheart has given you some guidance on using the forum feature. I just wanted to give my tiny hand :-) When you are getting more active on the forum, you will be more familiar with the features and function. Hope you enjoy SBF. Thank you for your prayers. I guess you might have read my profile. Although Hong Kong is a city in China, her historical background and development has allowed her to gain remarkable degree of freedom. Instead of persecution on our faith, Hong Kong christians are facing challenges of worldliness and lustful temptation. Persecution is not a bad thing (Matthew 5:11-12). But I dare not ask for that. Solely according to His will and that is God given honour for the saints. James 1:12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Shalom Azure |

524 | Thoughts on the Lord's Prayer | Matt 6:9 | azurelaw | 220154
Matthew 6:9-13 - Thoughts on the Lord's Prayer I cannot say OUR, if my religion has no room for others and their need. I cannot say FATHER , if I do not demonstrate this relationship in my daily living. I cannot say WHO ARE IN HEAVEN, if all my interest and pursuits are in earthly things. I cannot say YOUR KINGDOM COME, if I am unwilling to give up my own sovereignty and accept the righteous reign of God. I cannot say YOUR WILL BE DONE, if I am unwilling or resentful of having it in my life. I cannot say ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN unless I am truly ready to give myself to His service here and now. I cannot say GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD, with out making honest efforts for it or by ignoring the genuine need of other people. I cannot say FORGIVE US OUR SINS, AS WE HAVE ALSO FORGIVEN THOSE WHO SINNED AGAINST US, if I continue to harbour a grudge against anyone. I cannot say AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, if I deliberately choose to remain in a situation where I am likely to be tempted. I cannot say BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL, if I am not prepared to fight in the spiritual realm with the weapon of prayer. I cannot say YOURS IS THE KINGDOM, if I do not give the King the disciplined obedience of a royal subject. I cannot say YOURS IS THE POWER, if I fear what my neighbours and friends may say or do. I cannot say YOURS IS THE GLORY, if I am seeking my own glory first. I cannot say FOREVER, if I am not anxious about each day's affairs. I cannot say AMEN unless I honestly say, "Cost what it may this is my Prayer". -- author unknown. |

526 | If I repeat it, would Jesus hear me? | Matt 6:16 | azurelaw | 215977
Dear Humility, You may call me Azure. "Shalom" is a Hebrew greeting word meaning "peace be with you" (but it bears richer and deeper meaning). You say : You don't believe that my prayers should be limited simply to the Lord's prayer. I am sorry, I don't quite get your point. Could you please elaborate? Whether I "believe" you or not is not an issue here especially things about your prayer. I will not say it wrong to limit your prayers to what Jesus taught in Matt 6 if you earnestly, lovingly and truly pray with all your heart and is led by the Holy Spirit to do so (instead of reciting it as a recording machine). As I have said, you may also need to explain to your fellows why you like to stick to the Lord's Prayer in a loving way. We have to edify each other. I cannot say if it shows immaturity of the disciple. On one hand, we may consider them immature as we see they followed Jesus in person 3 years and still not sure who He is. However, the Lord's prayer appeared in Matt 6 and Luke 11 respectively under different context. In Matt 6, the Lord's prayer was mentioned in Jesus' discourse on the mountain starting from Chapter 5 and in direct reference to v5:8 in Chapter 6, whereas in Luke 11, Jesus' disciple asked Him to teach them to pray because they knew John the Baptist also taught his own discples to pray. I am sorry that I appear not answering your question, however, I believe Jesus is not limiting us to pray the Lord's prayer. See how He commended the praying of the tax collector in Luke 18:14. Shalom Azure |

528 | how do I get my parents back in church? | Matt 6:33 | azurelaw | 208837
Dear aherbert, Leave your sorrow to Christ in unceasing prayers, He will accomplish His will in His appointed time and method. Keep your faith in Him and persevere. Demonstrate your walk with Christ to your parents. Not only tell your parents that you love them, but also show your love to them. Tell them that God loves them and you are praying for them. Matt 5:16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Shalom Azure |

529 | The Means of Spiritual Growth | Matt 7:7 | azurelaw | 237951
"In the preceding portions of his sermon Christ had presented a standard of moral excellency which is utterly unattainable by mere flesh and blood. He had inculcated one requirement after another that lies not within the power of fallen human nature to meet. He had forbidden an opprobrious word, a malignant wish, an impure desire, a revengeful thought. He had enjoined the most unsparing mortification of our dearest lusts. He had commanded the loving of our enemies, the blessing of those who curse us, the doing good to those who hate us, and the praying for those who despitefully use and persecute us. In view of which the Christian may well exclaim "Who is sufficient for these things? Such demands of holiness are far beyond my feeble strength: yet the Lord has made them, what then am I to do?" Here is His own answer: "Ask, and ye shall receive, seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." The Lord Jesus knew that in our own wisdom and strength we are incapable of keeping His commandments, but He at once informed us that the things which are ordinarily impossible to men can be made possible by God." -------- A. Thanks to you both, WOS and Steve (humbledbyhisgrace), Amen, brothers. I failed to quote those scriptures to them during the discussion several months ago and I almost had the tendency to agree with them by that time. See, how we are easily blinded by our self-righteousness and arrogance. I am better equipped next time if similar discussion arises. Shalom Azure |

533 | Conditional organs donation | Matt 7:12 | azurelaw | 189031
Dear Hank, Thank you for sharing. I don't know how long did it take you to recover from the trauma. I pray that my eldest brother (a devoted christian) could soon recovered and say the same thing as yours. He lost his youngest son (a little christian) who was drowned in a swimming pool at the age of 7 three years ago. After the accident, my sister-in-law (a devoted christian, too) cried all day and avoid to stay home for being haunted with those memories of the lovely boy. My brother, keeping his agony deep into his heart, appears to be calm in front of people and his wife in order not to make her worry. However, since then, he stopped praying to God until lately God makes use of his best friend's fatal illness to drive my brother to open his mouth and pray for his friend. I am sure God has been and is working for He has sent angels from my brother's church to help him get through it. God will draw my brother nearer and nearer to Him. Shalom Azure |

536 | Who then is on this broad way? | Matt 7:13 | azurelaw | 217041
Dear Grafted, Nothing new under the sun, sir?/madam? I don't think you comment "Why do you guys fight so hard against maybe learning something new?" aptly apply to people who are responding to this thread. Your example to show respect by calling Mike or Michael does not address the issue properly. For the Studybible forum is designed in English. While we are guests, shall we be more concern to follow the convention norm to communicate in English as a kind of respect to our host "Lockman"? I am not saying Hebrew or Greek words are not allowed. But I think the purpose or proper use of them should be for explaining or clarifying a certain word used during Bible study, e.g. when we talk about love, we might want to know what are the different kinds of love in the Bible. Then in this case, Greek words to explain the different kinds of love would be needed. So, the original question of the thread or those relevant posts are not asking the meaning of Jesus, Paul, Peter, etc. in Hebrew. Employing too much of them is rather confusing (see my post 192966) and I am afraid it does not help one's understanding if it is not used in relevant to the issue. If it is necessary to employ Hebrew/Greek explanation to tackle a Bible study question, by all means, do it. Else, the simpler the better :-) Shalom Azure |
