Dear Tasia, Welcome to the forum. Pardon me that I don't quite your point. You post a question and answer it yourself. Did you mean that you finally get the answer yourself? That is great, but please provide scriptural backup or source of such if possible. It is very much appreciated and I am also interested to know the source and the answer, too. Shalom Azure |

483 | The end part of Jonah? | Jonah | azurelaw | 217745
Dear Val, Yes, I agree completely this is a beautiful story showing God's grace and love verses the heart of the self-righteous, even the chosen servant, prophet Jonah. I remember many many years ago, despite I was a grown-up at church, I had a certain level of bitterness against Japanese and I felt loath to think about God's saving grace was also extended to them. I am so ashamed of such thinking. Thank God for Jonah's story :-) Shalom Azure |

484 | Did Jonah die in the belly of the fish? | Jon 2:2 | azurelaw | 211906
Dear John, Wow, yes, an intriguing and interesting question indeed! However, I tend to hold the position that Jonah did not die but at the blink of or to the point of death (v5). I see v7 was pretty clear in describing his state of emergency. Concerning the concept of shoel, could this be a metaphor Jonah used in his poem to indicate a total separation from God? By the way, with the idea that "sea" implies God's judgment (Rev 21:1, there is no longer any sea) according to the Jewish thinking, Jonah considered God's judgment and punishment on him made him foretaste the shadow of eternal death that scares him so much (remember that he asked for death again in 4:3). More insights would be appreciated and thanks for the good question. Shalom Azure |

485 | Did Jonah die in the belly of the fish? | Jon 2:2 | azurelaw | 211920
Dear John, I see your point. I am still digging. However, Jonah chapter 2 is a poem / psalm which employs much from the book of Psalm. So, in consideration of the genre of the scripture, it would be helpful for us to understand better. Some citations from "How to read the Bible from all its worth" - by Fee and Stuart 1/ ...Hebrew poetry, by its very nature, was addressed, as it were, to the mind through the heart (i.e. much of the language is intentionally emotive). 2/ ...the Psalms are not just any kind of poems; they are musical poems. A musical poem cannot be read in the same way that an epistle or a narrative or a section of law can be read. It is intended to appeal to be emotions, to evoke feelings rather than propositional thinking, and to stimulate a response on the part of the individual that goes beyond a mere cognitive understanding of certain facts. 3/ ...the vocabulary of poetry is purposefuly metaphorical. Thus one must take care to look for the intent of the metapphor...It is likewise important that one noe press metaphors or take them literally. Digging...digging...:-) Shalom Azure |

486 | Grace that Amazes is Cross Centered | Zech 4:7 | azurelaw | 185217
Dear Doc, Thanks for quoting some background stories of John Newton whom I have heard of with very limited part of his story but not those parts as you have mentioned. Now I know better why he called himself "a wretch" in his "Amazing Grace" and he loved Jesus so dearly. I can tell you that my heart grieves with falling tears at this moment when reading his story and I can only think of Jesus' saying Luke 7:41-43 "A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?" Simon answered and said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." And He said to him, "You have judged correctly." Shalom Azure |

487 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | azurelaw | 194670
Dear Miller, You say : I believe in seed-faith, and what you quoted has never come out of my mouth. Stop slandering, its really bad. Yes, I respect your own attitude toward what you believe as in the seed-faith issue. However, I don't understand why you take it as a personal attack since brother Hank was not saying what he quoted came out of your mouth. He was just responding to Tim's post. The preceding posts along the thread shows no signs of your earlier post on the issue. Do you think it is fair to accuse someone who takes no part in dialogue with you for any personal attack against you? By the way, things that does not come out of your mouth does not mean that it never exists. I believe you do not murder, but does the act of murder exist as being performed by someone? Shalom Azure |

488 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | azurelaw | 194707
Dear Miller, I have read your post. If I understand it correctly, "seed of faith" usually involves monetary tithing (please correct me if I am wrong), and here are my understanding in concern with the scriptures you quoted: Luke 6:38 The context of the scripture does not talk about tithing. You can trace back to v30 and onward, it talks about how we should show our mercy and kindness to people. Luke 18:28-30 This also does not address the sense of tithing but Jesus requires his followers to be self-sacrifice (Rom 12:1). 2 Cor 9:6-8 The key verse should be "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, [so let him give]; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver" This is pretty clear that it is not a must to tithe. (but of course a true christian could never use it as an excuse for not tithing). For Mal 3:10, I am sorry I need to dig further to it. However, it seems to me from what you have quoted here are pretty much out of the context, which is not an appropriate method of bible study. I believe that is how the "seed-faith" derived from the WOF that the teachers picking a scripture here and there in support of their movement and their focus on the reward. I believe it is dangerous, too. Believer will be led to focus on the result and their faith will be so much tied to the outcome thus limiting (within their own mind) God's grace as in the result-oriented aspect. Hope I have adressed my points clear. Shalom Azure |

489 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | azurelaw | 194713
Dear Miller, I would say that instead of preaching the end result or reward brought to us when we give / tithe, I'd rather focus on the greatest reward that has been given to us already by Saviour Jesus Christ. What can we expect more but just Jesus himself. Shalom Azure |

490 | Why did God hate Esau? Romans 9:13 | Mal 1:3 | azurelaw | 193721
Dear Maxpower, You say: So a millennium and a half later WHEN GOD LOOKED BACK (caps are my emphasis) on the outworking of both this blessing and curse... Could you please elaborate more on what do you mean by "when God looked back"? Your statement gives me the impression that God has to wait till He finds the need to look back on certain outcomes before He delivers His guidances. Perhaps I have misunderstood you. Thank you for your clarification. Shalom Azure |

492 | what if i can't pay all of my tithes? | Mal 3:10 | azurelaw | 202994
Dear Bro D, We give (or tithe) not because of our anticipating any blessings from God. We may give in terms of many other things instead of money. They key is our heart. I hope the below post is helpful for better understanding. Repost of post number 172733 (by Kalos) **** I believe what the Bible actually says and teaches about tithing. However, 'We are not physical Israel. We don’t live in the promised land. We don’t have a Levitical priesthood...We are, however, to support those who minister to us (1 Corinthians 9:1-14; 1 Galatians 6:6; 1 Timothy 5:17-18). We are to give to the poor, especially the saints (Acts 6:1-6; Romans 12:13; 1 Corinthians 16:1f.; 2 Corinthians 8 and 9; Gal. 2:10; 6:10; etc.).' (www.bible.org/qatopic.asp) 'Nowhere does the New Testament require Christians to tithe in the sense of giving 10 percent, but it does reiterate many things associated with tithing: those who minister are entitled to receive support (1 Cor 9:14); the poor and needy should be cared for (1 Cor 16:1; Gal 2:10); those who give can trust God, as the source of all that is given (2 Cor 9:10), to supply their needs (2 Cor 9:8; Php 4:19); and giving should be done joyously (2 Cor 9:7). The New Testament directs that taxes be paid to the state (Rom 13:6-7), which replaced Israel's theocracy. 'Paul's vocabulary and teaching suggest that giving is voluntary and that there is no set percentage. Following the example of Christ, who gave even his life (2 Cor 8:9), we should cheerfully give as much as we have decided (2 Cor 9:7) based on how much the Lord has prospered us (1 Cor 16:2), knowing that we reap in proportion to what we sow (2 Cor 9:6) and that we will ultimately give account for our deeds (Rom 14:12).' 493 | Define All tithes? | Mal 3:10 | azurelaw | 203033
Dear Bro D, It just means that it is a duplication question of yours as you have asked another one "What do All tithes mean?" which has been answered. Therefore, this question "Define All tithes" will not stay on the main page as unanswered. Is that clear to you? or you actually wanted to ask another question? Sorry for the confusion. 495 | during the 3 days? | Matthew | azurelaw | 195363
Dear Michael, I would agree with brother Jesusman's answer (both his post 195348 and 195359) to you. The below commentary from John Gill provides the same insights as to why Jesus told Mary not to touch him. "Verse 17. Jesus saith unto her, touch me not,.... Not that his body was an aerial one, or a mere "phantom," which could not be touched; the prohibition itself shows the contrary; and besides, Christ's body was afterwards presented to Thomas, to be touched by him, and to be handled by all the disciples; and his feet were held by the women, which is what Mary would have now done: upon the discovery of him, she threw herself at his feet, and was going to embrace and kiss them, to testify her affection and joy, when she is forbid; not as unworthy of the favour, because she sought him among the dead, for which the angels reproved her and the rest; but either because he was not to be conversed with, as before his death, his body being raised immortal and glorious; or rather, because he had an errand to send her on to his disciples, which required haste; nor need she stay now to show her respect to him, since she would have opportunity enough to do that, before his ascension..." Dear bandaid, Sorry for my butting in. Kindly understand that this is a public forum. Once a question is posted, it is open to getting answers from those who want to help. I think you might need more grace and patience to those who sincerely want to help despite your finding them unhelpful. You don't have to reply every single post that directs to you. It seems to me that it is not a gracious manner to react to Justme that way since it is his first and only one reply with sincerity to your question. You say that you are in a safe place and in good hands, but sadly I see that you are not in a good spirit nor with a thankful heart toward those who attempt to help :-( Col 4:6 Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. Shalom Azure |
